for a newly qualified nurse about to take a post in a busy intensive care setting i have found this an essential to buy. i have found this book to contain an essential variety of clinical information tailored specifically toward the nursing profession. this in itself could make this a valuable asset to any book shelf yet somehow i found this text an amazingly informative and comprehensive read after only a short while. only a brief glimpse through this book has confimed my ideas that this is an ideal text.

This text is the finest I've seen on the subject, and one I referred most often during both LPN and RN training. When you need concise, no-frills, down-to-earth instruction, the illustrations and nutshell info boxes are unparalelled in time-saving, practical usefulness. As a study guide, there's no better book available on this subject, in my estimation, and its content will be relevant for years to come!

What a fantastic book for aspiring midwives or "birth junkies"! The book is a collection of articles, reflections, and birth stories from both lay midwives and nurse-midwives. As an aspiring midwife, I enjoyed reading about the challenges and joys of a life as a midwife. Readers will love the photos of midwives and birthing mothers as well. This book would be a perfect introduction to midwifery, as well as a welcome addition to an enthusiast's library.

This is a concise, clearly written book which is a "must have" for anyone working in obstetrics today. Ms.Menihan knows her subject inside and out and explains technical material in an interesting and understandable way.

I read this book as a first-year midwifery student doing research on the history of childbirth. Most of the other books I read were similar in their perspectives, but this one was definitely outside the norm. The author has some very different views about what caused the shift in childbirth assistance, and makes his case well.

The Making of Man-Midwifery really stretched my thinking and challenged me to step back and view the sociology of childbirth from a much broader perspective. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to develop their own understanding of childbirth sociology.
