Not so with the New Living Translation, which reads very well, yet retains all of the meaning of the original translations. Footnotes are liberally scattered in cases of translation ambiguity - and gives alternate possibility. It is nicely bound (hardcover) and the type is sized right for visibility.
What's nice about this Bible is that each day has a different theme, which allows you to read a short example, story, or anecdote as it relates to specific Scripture. Since I just bought this in August, I didn't start with January 1.
Reading the Bible no longer has to be a daunting task, with trying to figure out the "begat"s and the "thine"s and attempting to figure out a "cubit". It's a pleasure to read and makes one want to keep reading!

Wonderful book celebrating Kansas and Kansans! Outstanding!!Review Date: 2007-11-30
You never tire of going through this book, looking at the awe-inspiring images of the murals painted on the walls of the Capital building in Topeka, Kansas. The artwork is captured in excellent reproduction and the story is told from the heart - as only a fellow Kansas artist could have accomplished!
My compliments to the author!
And, my compliments to Leathers Publishing (another Kansas great) for producing another literary gem!
A must-have for anyone's library - and a wonderful coffee-table book for home and office.

Keeping the Flag Forward, The 8th Kansas VolunteersReview Date: 2008-08-18
Like the 8th Kansas, this book is built to lastReview Date: 2008-06-17
Organized in 1861 as Home Guards with the promise they would serve only in Kansas, this regiment traveled 10,750 miles to their muster out in San Antonio, Texas in January of 1866. Along the way they served in forts and communities on the western frontier, and fought against guerrilla leader, William Quantrill. Their travels took them through the battles at Perryville, Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge, the Atlanta Campaign and Nashville where they faced and defeated Confederate John Bell Hood. During their four years, four months and eleven days of service, they participated in fifteen battles and eighteen skirmishes. They lost 64 men killed, 272 wounded and 21 missing. Of the missing nearly all were killed. Of the wounded nearly one-third died.
The illustrations in "Keep the Flag to the Front" published by Leathers Publishing in Overland Park, Kansas seem to jump out and bite you.
From the painting on the dust cover to the end notes and index, this is the best overall regimental history I have read in many years. Like the 8th Kansas, this book is built to last.

This Bible is very readable/user friendlyReview Date: 2003-07-15
The print quality is very sharp and clear compared to most of the other Bibles published by other companies which are faint and thin. Personally, this is a very important feature to me.
This Bible is printed similar to the superiority of the Bibles printed by Cambridge University Press.

The King James Version at an affordable price!Review Date: 2002-05-03
I was a very big fan of the New International Version (NIV) of the Bible and had no plan of ever getting the King James Version (KJV). The KJV was like Shakespeare to me; I had no idea what it was trying to say. I preferred the NIV, because it was something I could understand; it was also the Bible that was used by everyone when I used to go to church.
One night, I've read on the internet that the KJV is better than the NIV. The very next day, I bought a KJV Bible.
It just might've been my imagination, but when I opened my newly purchased KJV Bible, I found that what I've read on the internet was correct. There are some things that aren't translated very well in the NIV, making the NIV a little bit different from the KJV.
From now on, I'll try to stick to the KJV, because I feel its translation comes closest to the words found in the original Hebrew, Greek, and Armaic texts.
What I like about this Bible:
- Quotes made by Jesus Christ is printed in red, making them stand
out against other text, which is printed in black
- There's an illustrated dictionary and concordance
- There are colored
maps.
One thing people might not like about this Bible is that the printed words are quite small, which some reviewers here at amazon.com have already pointed out. I didn't mind the small print, but if you prefer a bigger print, I suggest you get the "Large Print" editions. ...

Her poetry is positive and compassionate. You can feel her sense of care for the world with each line she writes. She is a composer in the beautiful symphony of poetry. Thank you Hannah Dixon for sharing your crossroads of hope and possibility.
