As I started to leaf through this epic; tears welled in my eyes; Tears for the the art, tears for the subject, tears for the artist and tears of joy.

The destruction of life has never been so beautiful.

Peter Beard is one of few artists whose life is art, in the truest sense.

THE COVER IS HARDBACK SO IT IS EASY TO CLEAN AND KEEP IN GOOD CONDITION. I ALSO LIKE IT BECAUSE IT HAS THE OLD AND NEW TESTAMENTS.

The illustrations in this book are excellent. As I looked at them I found myself going back to my childhood days and reliving them all over again. The artist really had a feel for what the author was trying to portray. Too bad i cannot find any more work by this artist. She is Great!

I found these two books to be inspirational as well as a loving message from parent to child. It reminds us all of the importance of keeping the promises we make our children and grandchildren. This set of books is a perfect gift for new parents as a keepsake and once they complete their own letter of promise it can be passed down to their children. I highly recommend these books.

What an inspiration!

The author seems to have real insight into what our children need to grow up secure, happy and ready for the world. The picture book is a soothing "feel good" read for the children, but the meat and potatoes is in the small accompanying book written in the perspective of child to parent. Every parent should read this and return to it periodically for a reminder (I know we all need it from time to time).

Those who want more Mary Baker Eddy and a more complete understanging of Christian Science should own this book.

An example of the sort of material is this from page 10:

We have no enemies. Whatever envy, hatred, revenge
--the most remorseless motives that govern mortal mind
--whatever these try to do, shall "work together for good
to them that love God."

Why?
Because He has called His own, armed them, equipped
them, and furnished them defenses impregnable. Their
God will not let them be lost; and if they fall they shall
rise again, stronger than before the stumble. The good
cannot lose their God, their help in times of trouble.

If they mistake the divine command, they will recover
it, countermand their order, retrace their steps, and
reinstate His orders, more assured to press on safely.

The best lesson of their lives is gained by crossing
swords with temptation, with fear and the besetments
of evil; insomuch as they thereby have tried their
strength and proven it; insomuch as they have found
their strength made perfect in weakness, and their fear
is self-immolated.

For those looking for a book ABOUT Christian Science, this is the best:
Spiritual Healing in a Scientific Age.

For a quick take on Christian Science, read Spiritual Healing page 16 to the end of the chapter and then the story beginning on page 54.

A little more grace, a motive made pure...

Wayne Dyer became a kajillionaire by writing countless books (which made it into the mainstream) that assert this simple truth: We have dominion over our thoughts and by exercising dominion in the mental relm, we can also prove and manifest that dominion in our physical experience.

Mary Baker Eddy made very similar statements in the 1870s, at a time when women were expected to sit quietly and demurely and speak only when spoken to. Whether you're a friend or foe of the CS church, you gotta *love* Eddy's boldness to create and establish an international religion, a church and a well-respected, international newspaper at a time when women didn't even the right to vote or hold property.

Prose Works is a collection of Eddy's writings and I've always found it to be a good read and it packs a powerful wallop of inspiration. Not just, "wow, that's a nice thought" inspiration, but the kind of inspiration that initiates a major paradigm shift in both thought and deed.

It is in this book that she wrote one of my favorite passages of all time: "A little more grace, a motive made pure, a few truths tenderly told, a heart softened, a character subdued, a life consecrated, would restore the right action of the mental mechanism, and make manifest the movement of body and soul in accord with God."

Powerful words. I recommend this book, but must add a caution that some of the language is Victorian and a little dated. However, it's still good stuff.

it goes with Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures

Review Date: 1999-11-24
It has MUCH inspiration and answers questions in a different and sometimes similiar way about the application of Christian Science.

It becomes more meaningful after becomeing thouroughly familiar with Science and Health (and having practised Christian Science for a while), for some parts, whereas other parts like 'The Peoples Idea of God' or 'Unity of Good' or 'Christian Healing', 'Rudimental Divine Science'(all in Proes Works) can be useful and supplemental and occasionally introductory to Science and Health, while one is reading it.

It is a compilation of all of Mary Baker Eddy's writings other than Science and Health for quick and easy reference. You would require a separate Concordance for your index to these writings.

Some of the writings are meaningful to the person dealing with organizational challenges while participating in the church. Much of the information is transcendent and applicable, like Science and Health, to working out that 'science of being' in the context of Christian Science practise.

There are lectures and articles by and interviews with and early writings by or letters from and to Mary Baker Eddy to serve various and other purposes than that of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures which is a textbook and companion to the Bible (the two together serving as the Pastor of the church.)

It is the place I find continued metaphysical inspiration, sort of like a 'workbook', showing me other ideas in the Bible and ways Mary Baker Eddy shared Christian Science with the world in it's inquirey about what it is.

Like Science and Health, which is deep and kaleidescopic with meaning and comfort and healing, one reads through the layers. With experience using Christian Science one returns to it to find new meaning and continued insight on the Bible and what one had proved to oneself. Reading Science and Health is a new experience in meaning. Proes Works holds many a spiritual insight along with some occasional practical wisdom to go with it.So, sometimes the language is like Science nad Health and other times it is a more traditional or familiar form of rhetoric.

Some of the articles speak to more specific or general issues than can be addressed in Science and Health. There are Christian admonishments to good behaviour and right thinking about God and our fellow man as well as metaphysical exactitudes and some allegory.

It can becomes necessary to have after pretty good familiariy with Science and Health. Science and Health stays absolute in what it teaches. Sometimes the various writings compiled in Proes Works are more relative.

[Just a personal comment, I do not like the Aquuas publishers copy of these books - I have one - because they are aesthetically very unpleasing. The authorized versions are created with a mind to the readers comfort and ease through large type and/or portable paperbacks. I feel comfortable to pocket or scribble all over them. The Aquuas books are kind of cheap, which is probably there whole point to keep cost down. I wonder if the authorized publishers will do an authorized version of the Proes Works like the nice big red and green book put out? It has nice big margins for note making and large readable type.]

i think the most important step in choosing a bible is the version. this is an nkjv, and i'm very pleased with how easy this version reads.when others pick it up, i am usually asked if i could get them a copy, and even my kids find this version understandable, and therefore enjoyable.

that aside, this is the most beautiful bible i've seen. with paintings from thomas kincaide, and the words of his wife, i have found a new beauty in grabbing and READING my bible.i have had the juniper(dark)green leather bound copy for two yrs.i am pleased with how good it looks, and i do not have a delicate hand! i have also given them as gifts.my local bible shop charged just a few dollars to personalize, which should be a considaration in price. reading this pretty bible feels like a treat!

Thomas Kinkade fans will not be disappointed! I have only had this Bible for a week and am just delighted! This Bible is absolutely beautifully illustrated. My words do not even do it justice.

This NKJV is sleek and put together very well. It is not too large or heavy making it easily portable, yet the size of the print is still large enough for comfortable reading. (For the record, I have very bad vision corrected with contacts.) I have seen reference Bibles larger than this one with smaller size print!

The devotions are also very inspiring, but I have not read them all yet. While the devotions I have read are very good, there are not that many of them as compared to other more in depth devotional Bibles. (About one per week, plus a few more.) This is not a bad thing. It is just not that type of Bible. All of these devotions, as I understand it, were written by Nanette Kinkade, and I appreciate her sharing them very much!

The overall quality of this edition is exceptional. To be fair, I am not sure about the hardback edition as I have never seen one. I realize this is a matter of preference, but I believe, the bonded leather edition is the way to go. It may cost a bit more, but it is well-worth the difference in price. I say this as it seems Kinkade's pictures just seem to belong in a leather bound Bible. Again, this is a matter of opinion. His pictures are certainly beautiful any where.

The only real complaint or disappointment I had was that this is not a red letter edition of the Bible. It was put together so well and so beautifully, however, that I didn't mind it as much as I thought I would.

This is not just any Bible, it's a full restoration of Hebraic thought and Yah's name. Whether you are young or old believer you can learn Hebrew just by reading this version of our living Word. The "Scriptures" are nicely bound with leather and it's a 4 pound hardback. The notes are good and they get you thinking like the old Jewish sages. Jews, Christians, and Messianics could all do well to have a copy of this translation when they are studying the Word. The correction of errors is liberating, it truely restores what the Masorites and Roman Catholic scribes tried to hide or delete to support there own agendas. The word italics for both the Father and Son in both Old and Renewed Covenant is very helpful. The Hebrew words in the back of the Bible is truely a gem. The "Scriptures" use of our Deity or Elohim (Mighty One) of Israel's name is an added bonus. Both the Father's name (Abba Yahweh) and the Son's name (Yahshua) are represented in Hebrew letters in ways a novice in foreign language could understand. This translation reads very well and I highly recommend it.

Every human being should have a copy of these Scriptures. The advantages are more than I can mention here. I like very much the Hebrew words that are used in such a way that you begin to think in Hebrew terms instead of English, without having to know any Hebrew previously! A well-done dictionary in the back gives the meaning of the Hebrew words. The commentaries are very scholarly and helpful. Many passages were easier to understand in this Scripture than any others I have read. Also, having previously been a King James Only Bible student, I noticed that these Scriptures read much like the King James with the exception of where Hebrew words are used, which actually gives a truer rendering of the text. It is a very difficult version to put down, as you want to keep reading when so much makes sense that didn't make sense before. If I had to have only one Bible in my house, this would definitely be the one I would keep. This Bible has taken my studies to a level that I thought impossible with my limited understanding of the original languages. I highly recommend this Bible for beginners and scholars alike.

For those interested in reading the Scriptures from a more literal viewpoint, this Bible will not disappoint you. It helps to have some understanding of the Hebrew language, but that is certainly not necessary to enjoy this translation. With a full glossary of the Hebrew terms used, even those completely unfamilar with Hebrew should grow to appreciate the use of the original language.

In "The Road to Wisdom" Dennis A. Butler, Ph.D., explains a unique tool he designed to help us better understand ourselves and others. The tool, called an Enneagram, identifies different types of human personalities.

The difficulty of producing such a tool that can be easily understood and applied to the general population cannot be understated. The complex subject, with the many variables of our psychological makeup, would seem overwhelming.

Dr. Butler has designed such a tool, and his book is written so that his theories may be acted upon immediately by corporate America and each individual. Just practicing the first skill of INSIGHT or self-observation would be enriching to anyone!

Tom Ryerson & Phyllis Ryerse have made family history come alive with this extraordinary book. Not only has their painstaking research paid off in an easy-to-follow genealogy of the Ryerse-Ryerson Family, but this book should serve as a model for all those interested in chronicling their family history. The Ryerse-Ryerson Family tells the 400-year history of one of the oldest Dutch families to settle in the US using rich text, pictures and maps. Far from the dry recitation of facts found in many books of this ilk, Tom and Phyllis have written a book that is both informative and entertaining. For all genealogy or history buffs, this book is a "must read"!

The book is wonderful, with pictures of family, maps, headstones, stories of the past telling how life was for them. Makes your family come alive again. I rate this book five stars! As a pastor who is concerned not only with the conversion, but also of the discipleship of those under my watch care as an undershepherd I purchase a copy of this study Bible for every person I baptize.
It is conservative in its theology. Dr. Ryrie, like everyone in the world has a bias. If you wonder where he is coming from then purchase his book Basic Theology. His goal is the same as mine, for people to come to a saving knowledge of Jesus and continue to grow closer to Jesus in their discipleship until He returns. This Bible will help you to grow. As with every book concerning the Scripture one must read it and study it to compare it to the actual text. Ryrie treats Scripture as if it is Scripture - God's written revelation to mankind. He is faithful in his exposition.
I prefer the NASB or the NASU over the NIV or KJV but all four of these are adequate for study. If you purchase the KJV then buy the King James Word Book to help you navigate the changes in English.
I give away the hardback. I purchased the top grain leather edition in 1989 and it stood up to more than 10 years of abuse before the maps began to fall out in 2001.
The notes are consistent. The aps are helpful. The cross referencing takes you where you need to go and the doctrinal section in the back is a sample of Basic Theology.
If you are looking for a Bible to help you or another to grow then this is the one for you. Perfect for Sunday School, Bible studies, personal study, sermon prep (he has great divisions in the text) and witnessing (better to use a smaller Bible, but mine is used in marriage counseling and evangelism regularly) and good ole fashion reading. Buy it, read it, believe and obey it, then buy one for a friend. Even if you don't agree with his notes you should consider them as representative of a spiritual man who is also a scholar (Edinburgh & DTS.)
