This has been my favorite version of the Bible for over 40 years. I have a King James, NIV, New King James Version, and a copy of The Message. I have bought other versions to broaden my study and understanding. However, I always go back to my American Standard Version. I really like the language and find it easier to read than the King James. In fact, I have totally worn out one ASV and have had my second copy rebound. I have also consumed one ASV pocket New Testament and had my second one rebound. I simply prefer this version. Supposedly, it is one of the most reliable translations of the Bible.

Oldie, but a goodie!

This is the most literal version of the Bible out there. This is a great buy for anyone. I wouldn't buy this for a toddler, seeing as how it's hard to understand and the Bible costs 60 bucks, so it might get ruined. This ASV is the best, and I recommend it to everyone out there.

1 bad thing-it deletes the same verses as the NIV and is bases not on the Textus Receptus. All in all, it is a great gift to buy!

This is the only American Standard Version Bible currently being published. It is a reprint of the original Nelson and Sons of 1901. Star Publishing has done an excellent job of bringing back a forgotten translation. The below reviewer seemed dissapointed that it didn't measure up to a genuine leather Oxford Bible. I've been selling Bibles for years and this Bible is of the same quality of any other $60 Oxford Bible. Of course it doesn't compare with a $150 Bible, but you're not paying $150. For the money you won't be dissapointed and you will be able to add a new ASV to your translation list. They also offer the ASV in hardback.

A very Sturdy Bible cover

This is perfect. I had trouble finding a bible cover that would work for my Life Applications Study Bible. It is a large bible. I tried two others and they were too tight. This sturdy leather cover has a large metal pull on the zipper that makes it easy to zip and unzip. Ther are four pockets on the inside front flap. Two medium sized and two very small ones. Notebook paper folded in half would go in the larger ones as well as a pen or pencil. The smaller ones work well for my extra bookmarks. Nice to finally find a cover to fit my bible.

Cover is great, price is not

The quality of this bible cover is fine. The size is not big enough for the Thompson Chain Reference Bible in large print. I wish this had been stated in the description of this cover before I made my purchase. It states it is extra large, but in fact it is not.

Well, this bible is just great. We know how good and useful the Thompson Study Bible is, but this version is excellent. The colors of the leather are nice and it is much more manegeable because they are soft. This is what I was always looking for in a Thompson Bible. Bye to hard cover. Well, this is the only different feature in this blible since everything else is the same as any other Thompson study bible so you know you get the excellent quality a Thompson sutudy bible has.

James Duke, a medicinal plant specialist, describes close to 60 plants used in Biblical times. Not all the plants he mentions are herbs, as the title of the book may suggest. He includes nuts, fruits, legumes, and spices.

In his introduction, he explains which plant names are used in the Bible, why the Bible does not go into detail about their medicinal values, and how translation errors have lead to misinterpretations of Bible passages.

The major portion of the book is dedicated to the plants themselves. Duke explains their possible benefits and their use in medicine and cooking. He offers folklore, and for some plants even recipes, such as a skin softener made with almond oil, a dandruff shampoo with olive oil, or a wart removal remedy with figs. It's not a book for herbal self-medication, but an herbal encyclopedia on a small scale. I really enjoyed it.

I was fortunate enough to be able to read this book before it went to press, as I was asked to give a quote for the back of the book. It is thorough, well researched, and is a valuable resource for scholars, healers, herbalists, historians, spiritual healers, students - well, for everyone! Herbs that were mentioned in the Bible are explained and includes a look at how they are still used today. Anyone familiar with Dr. Duke's work will want this on their library shelf!

This is a great little bible. I bought two from Amazon.com, one for myself and my best friend. God's word is so important and so are bees.

This lovely Bible is the perfect size for a purse, and is a red-letter edition. I specifically purchased this so that if I were reading it on a plane or in another public place, someone might inquire about what it is that I am reading...and Voila!...and opportunity to talk about it. :)

LOVE IT!

I looove the fact that I don't have to worry about accidentally tearing the binding of the book like a have done with a paperback version by Zondervan. I also love the silver lining and the extra indexes in the back of the book! It arrived before the estimated date of arrival, too! Thank you, Amazon.com!

I read this book cover to cover the night my mother handed it to me. At times I laughed; more often I cried. Colette's story is inspiring; her sense of humor is amazing. After a particularly aggressive treatment she was feeling poorly and yet told her husband, "hat treatment was so strong the hair's falling out of my WIG!"I am grateful she has shared the lessons she learned: listen to your body, research and be actively involved in your own treatment, maintain as much normalcy as possible, seek the support of friends, treasure each day that you do have with your family, and most of all, draw on your faith to be open to the blessings God brings, even in cancer. This book is a testament to a remarkable woman and an exemplary faith.

An informational, diary type book.

This book is exceptional in the fact that it was written by the person experiencing cancer itself. No one can explain what someone goes through better than the one with cancer. It shows to trust your instincts, and check out all suspicious ailments. I would suggest that anyone trying to understand what someone with cancer is going through to read this book.

She fought the fight & the battle was won.

This book is a must for all who are effected by cancer, whether you are a victim of the disease or a family member of one. If you have ever thought of giving up or know of someone who has, this book will show that faith and perserverence can stretch a one year to live "death sentence" into four more years. This story enables you to get to know and love an ol' farm girl who loved life and taught her family to do the same, while remaining focused on the ultimate victory in our Lord Jesus Christ. May she impact your life just as she has mine, her youngest daughter.

This Bible reveres the Word of God
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2006-05-05
It seems so many study and reference Bibles can make one doubt the word of God. This Bible does not do so. Its notes are just alternate readings, and are not over-bearing. Its references are spectacular. I like the references in this Bible even better than the ones in the Scofield.

This Bible has a great "why read the KJV" section at the beginning that brought tears to my eyes.

I am also highly impressed with the concordance, which has three columns per page, and is over 60 pages long. I've never seen such a well done concordance in a bible of such low price.

I own Bibles that sell for as much as 70+ dollars per Bible, and this 15 dollar Bible blows them out of the water. We've been told that we should "let scripture interpret scripture." We can truely do this with the Cornerstone Personal Reference Bible. Whenever you come across a passage you don't understand, simply look up its references, and see the Word of God come alive before your very eyes.

I really like this Bible. The materials used are very high quality. The one I own is the genuine leather version and the binding is just beautiful, as a matter of fact I have not seen any other Bibles that use the same type of leather as this one has. It is very durable and very well made. Out of all the Bibles that I own and use it is one of my most favorite Bibles. I highly recommend this Bible.

This is an inexpensive bible, and it has all the luxurious features of the ones which are three times this price. The leather cover is wonderful and the book is very solid (it's size and weight is perfect), and the paper is nice. It has very useful features - center column references, words of Christ in red and many others. It's great to read and study. It's a bit flashy, but very neat. A money saver at best.

A comfort for all women...
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2002-02-18
This book speaks to so many women because we all seem to have "something" we need to overcome -- a disability or flaw, a bad childhood, a rough teen or young adulthood, a sin or lifestyle that has tormented us -- and overcoming whatever it is can be hard. But this book guides the way, helping the reader deal with that "something" that makes us doubt our purpose and our place in God's plan and even want to give up.

Chapter 5, "How to Prevent an Identify Crisis," is an amazing comfort and source of support, a great start in making the doubts and worries disappear. The book gives you a tremendous feeling of security and hope. No matter what your past, the future is guarded by God, and a purpose awaits.

I have dealt with self-esteem issues from my past mistakes for a long, looooong time. I had been seeing a professional counselor who felt that many of my feelings of anxiety were based on a lack of self-esteem. I picked up this book by chance, based on the title, but was happily surprised that it contained so much more than the cover implies. The author gives specific references to Scripture that help with feelings of anxiety, dealing with a broken past, abuse, and shame. This goes way beyond self-esteem. This book has saved me countless times when I began to feel the downward spiral begin. I loved it so much, I bought several other copies and gave them to women I knew who were facing similar doubts and regrets, and have seen the change in them as well. I cannot stress enough how wonderful this book is!

A book that really seems to make a difference!

As a Christian counselor I receive promotional books on occasion, and when I received this book I asked my wife to take a look at it and give me her opinion. Her response surprised me! She loved this book to the point she couldn't put it down. She said it addressed several personal issues for her that had been lingering for some time. She liked it well enough that she gave copies to several of her family members. I purchased several copies to sell or give away at my counseling office. Each person I gave it to remarked how insightful the book was and how much of an impact it was making in their lives, especially the part on forgiveness. One counseling client came back and bought 5 or 6 copies to give to her family members! Hey, that reminds me, I need to reorder....I think I have run out!

This is possibly the most complete and exhaustive study bible available. I use it quite often. The wealth of information is unbelivable. Prophesy charts, comparative religions, a Christian worker course, dispensational truths, illuminating comments on difficult passages, over 500,000 cross references, and 35,000 comments and notes all in one Bible! I highly recomend this book on the most essential matters of time to all Christians and truth seekers.

It is very informative and gives you an idea on what kinds of tools are used in leather work and how they are used. It makes a great reference source. It givr you an idea on what kinds of tools you'll need for the differnt kinds of leather trades.

Look at all the nifty tools!

We just received our copy yesterday, and I expect my husband and I will be competing for it until one of manages to get through it from cover to cover. As the title implies, the author covers almost any tool you could think of used for leather working in the last 2.5 centuries, including things like workbences and stools. :) The book is arranged by trade - bookbinding, boot and shoe making, skinningk, tanning, finishing, etc, with the tools alphabetical by general type within each trade. Some of the descriptions are very brief, and the author spends more time in explanations of how more obscure tools are/were used than for common ones - which makes sense. Definitely enjoyable for the confirmed tool junkie.
