I bought this Bible as a Christmas gift for my mom. I haven't given it to her yet, but she is going to love it! Along with this Bible being a great traslation (NIV), there are prayers for your grandchildren and also little dovotions that you can read with them. The questions are thought provoking and will help to draw any grandmother closer to her grandchildren. The cover of the Bible is BEAUTIFUL and I can't wait for her to open this gift!

I showed this to my Pastor's wife who teaches Sunday School and Kid's Church and she loved it! She is not yet a grandmother but she said, "This should be called the Sunday School Teacher's Bible! This is great! It already has mini-lessons in here!"

I recommend this Bible to any grandmother...especially if she is a Sunday School teacher!

This special gift was for my mother and my sister-in-laws. All are grandmothers. They have already started to read it and find it meaningful for their daily lives. I appreciated the writers that added their special stories and thoughts as devotions and encouragement to my family.

I bought this for myself but it would make a wonderful gift! You actually focus on each grandchild one at a time for 2 weeks - praying for the child, reading the child stories, sharing His word, and even getting ideas on how to share His love with your grandchildren. I have numerous bibles and this is THE best - you can't go wrong with this bible for yourself or as a gift! And the price can't be beat here.

I just got a new and very demanding job and have had a hard time finding a 2007 planner this late in the year, and one that fits my needs. I came across this one and IT IS PERFECT. It blesses my days in helping to provide order, and in reminding me Who holds my days in the palm of His hand! I love this planner - there's plenty of room to write, and lots of helpful extras in the back for storing information. And the scripture references and inspirational sayings make it that much better. Compact, beautiful, and worthwhile - I can't wait to buy the one for next year.

For those of you who've purchased the "Christian Daily Planner" in the past, this is the same thing. For some reason, the manufacturers decided "Christian" was too exclusive a term and so made it "inspirational" instead.

But fear not -- the content hasn't been toned down (in this version, at least. We'll see what next year holds.) There are still Bible verses and inspirational thoughts throughout. My wife uses hers extensively, and she requests a new one every year.

However, if they water it down to fluffy feel-good sayings and drop the verses, we'll purchase a different product next year.

This Bible contains brief book introductions by Max Lucado and side page notes buy a host of well known christians. It also contains an index to notes and brief concordance.

An Incomplete Biography of Jesus Christ
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-12-23
Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons) are admonished to study the scriptures and "...liken all scriptures unto us, that it might be for our profit and learning" (1 Nephi 19:23 in the The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ). It can be challenging to do this, given the different language, missing passages and absent historical context of ancient scriptures. James E. Talmage helps us study the life of Jesus Christ by presenting it as a detailed biography. This organization aids understanding of a great deal of complex material. It is an impressive and exhaustive work.

This biography departs from what we are used to in several ways. First, it begins before its subject's birth, describing his role in the decisions and actions taken before the world was created. It also continues after his death, describing his ministry among the spirits of the dead, and after his resurrection, as he visits his disciples in Jerusalem and in other parts of the world. Also unusual for a biography, it describes with faith and confidence his future actions as he completes his work to "...bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man." (Moses 1:39 in The Pearl of Great Price). Jesus Christ's mortal life, particularly his ministry during his final three years, is presented in great detail.

In spite of its impressive and expanded scope, it is incomplete--reminding us that all biographies are incomplete--because of things we do not know. It does not say much of Jesus' childhood nor of the private aspects of his life. Perhaps more will be known at some future time. Some will not, for considerations of privacy we would all wish of a potential biographer. We are left to contemplate the life presented to us, to use what we learn from it to best fill the remaining spans of our own. This life in particular is worth examining and emulating.

This book is written from the point of view of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons). It is best understood and appreciated by those who believe and value this perspective. Those seeking an introductory presentation of LDS belief might prefer the official LDS Church guide Gospel Principles or Mormonism: A Very Short Introduction.

This is no doubt a work of divinely inspired learned genius. James Talmage gives sensitive insight into and understanding of the life and mission of Jesus Christ second to none. Literarily it is a luscious read and easily ranks way at the top of my all time favorite books.

Our study group has all different sizes and editions, but this beautifully bound soft leather cover book with its high quality golden edged pages and an attached ribbon bookmark is the envy. Unlike the other large and bulky editions, even with its 700+ pages I can curl up in bed to read it and it also fits in my handbag when I'm on the go. It was well worth the extra money. One caveat: If you need large print, this edition wouldn't be for you.

Few people grasp the importance and the completeness of the Savior's life. James E. Talmage is one who does. His explanations are precise and without excuse. His ability to quote many Christian scholars that support his conclusions is impressive. The thoroughness of his research leaves one wondering how anyone can doubt the divine mission of Jesus Christ. His testimony is persuasive and personal. A great study of the life and mission of the only perfect man to walk this earth.

Jesus the Christ is one of my most favorite books. It is well written and helps the reader understand the only Begotten Of The Father. It is the mission of Christ in Pre-mortality, Mortality and for all eternity. It helps you understand the person and furthermore helps you build a closer relationship with Our Savior. I cannot say more about that book, except I know it to be true and every word touches my heart each time that I read it. I have three copies... one big one with art, one leather bound for daily reading and one paperbound that I have marked up like crazy.

The reviewers before me did a nice job of covering the content of this nice little devotional book, so I won't do that again. However, I have enjoyed this book so much I wanted to add my comments and say that I find myself picking it up to read at all times of the day. With 2 very young children I have little time to read, but with the verses on one page and the inspirational story on the other, I find that I am able to complete the message at one time. I would highly recommend this book to any woman who wants to spend more time in God's word.

A lovely, fragrant blossom of a devotional book

I always am grateful when the publishers of books take the time to make not just the content worthy, but to also make the book itself a pleasure to hold and read. This small book, which comfortably fits a woman's hand, is such a volume.

The cover welcomes you with a bouquet of pink roses and golden lettering. The spine is a textured cloth. The endpages are beautifully speckled with bits of pastels. The pages themselves feel substantial, but are given lightness and beauty by the soft colors that inbue the paper.

The format is just as pleasing: On the left hand pages, you'll find Bible passages on specific promises, such as "Promises to Help You Learn From Others" or "Promises About Daring To Risk". On the right hand side is a brief passage to inspire you by the likes of Luci Swindoll, Gloria Gaither, Liz Curtis Higgs and Elisabeth Elliot. A wonderful compilation, feminine and comforting and uplifting.

I've had my copy since it was first published a few years back, but it recently received some water damage when my car sprang a leak (I kept the book with me when driving around town). I plan to order a new one, because it's, quite simply, a small treasure.

I recommend it for every Christian woman, and most especially, I recommend it as an affordable and pretty gift type of book which carries priceless advice.

An Encouraging "Companion" For Every Day

Review Date: 2000-04-12
Sometimes, a book becomes a constant source of encouragement, a faithful companion with good things to say. JOY FOR THE JOURNEY--a lusciously bound and composed work--is that type of book.

The promises of God are paired with the insights of Christian women to supply your mind and heart with good news at every moment when it's needed. Find promises to help you recapture joy, or assist you to develop godly habits or to aid you in your struggle through heartache. For the last you find, "In the day when I cried out, You answered me, and made me bold with strength in my soul," from Psalm 138:3, paired with an essay by Liz Curtis Higgs, who says that "laughter is how we take a much-needed break from heartache."

Under the heading PROMISES TO HELP YOU WAIT IN HOPE, you'll find from Psalm 27:14, "Wait on the Lord, be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart," combined with words from Edith Schaeffer about how we wait for all manner of things, and most of all, for Christ's return.

If you're the type of person who enjoys devotional books, if you like to carry something beautifully written with you to give you an inspiring word when the days are rough or you are feeling doubts, then please obtain this lovely compilation. An encouraging word will always be at hand. *Mir*

Contrary to what some of the reviewers have said here, this edition is definitely NOT THUMB INDEXED. However, Zondervan does offer an excellent Giant Print KJV Bible here, and the bold print is very easy on the eyes. An Amazon customer service representative assured me that this was in fact thumb indexed, but he was definitely mistaken. I returned mine and paid a bit more for the thumb indexed edition, but in my opinion, it was well worth the extra money.

I went to a local bookstore and compared every large print King James bible they had. This one had the largest print and was also the clearest print. I don't need giant print, I just find it more comfortable to read.
The ink they used was blacker than the others and the paper they used was whiter too. However the rest of the book is nothing to write home about. The leather is bonded and kind of cheap. The ribbon marker is barely the size of a shoestring.
I figured if I stuck with this bible long enough, I would wear it out and then send off the nice pages (by far the best part of this bible) to a bindery and have it rebound in genuine leather and have them sew in 2 or 3 nice wide satin marker ribbons.

I ordered these Bible for our medical mission team traveling to Jamaica. They wanted to be able to share God's word with patients who were elderly and had vision problems. This Bible was just perfect for their needs---large enough print for the patients to read comfortably, and not too heavy to transport to the rural clinics. Good value for the money.

Very seldom does one read a book that touches the core of your soul with each word...."LIVING" did just that for me! The variety of poems makes for an all around special blend that speaks to all situations and occasions. Two of my VERY favorites are," IT'S YOUR TURN NOW",(which is still ministering to me) and "SECOND CHANCES"...( What a great reminder to us all just how good GOD is and how he keeps on giving us another chance when we mess up.) To the author, Paula Toney-Brooks, I have only one thing to say...." LET GOD CONTINUE TO USE YOU AND I LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR NEXT PROJECT." GOD BLESS

Fantastic take on the Word of God
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-11-30
I am a fan of Benny Hinn, so when I found out his ministry published a Bible, I had to have it!

The King James Version Master's Healing Presence Bible is the joint effort of Benny Hinn Ministries, Thomas Nelson Publishers, and a pleathora of famous, anointed biblical teachers and pastors, including R.A. Torrey, Kathrine Khulman, F.F. Bosworth, John Wesley, Smith Wigglesworth, Oral Roberts, A.B Simpson, Charles Spurgeon, Andrew Murray, Charles finney, E.M. Bounds, Maria Woodworth-Etter, D.L. Moody, Martin Luther, John G. Lake, Madame Jeanne Guyon, Benny Hinn and many others.

This is what some refer to as a "Rainbow Bible." Specific Scriptures are color-coded to correspond with various themes and contributor's articles. For this one, passages relating to prayer are hilighted in purple, passages exposing faith in action are orange, passages for healing are green, for the Holy Spirit are yellow, and the presence of God are blue.

Although the traditional, literal King James translation might be a little difficult for some readers (I love it), the content is truly inspiring. The articles from the various teachers add to the Scriptures. The color-coded passages also correspond to the exhortations from the contributors (prayer purple, faith orange, Holy Spirit yellow, God's presence blue, healing, green). The correlation of the color-coded passages makes comprehending and understanding them as they relate to the message of the Bible, and it makes for a wonderful reading experience.

the font is nice and big (9) but not huge. I have bad vision and can read it without glasses. Mine is bound in bonded leather (it only comes in black), which isn't as good as genuine or premium sewn bindings, but it seems sturdy and the glue seams haven't peeled up yet. I've had trouble with this in my Nelson NKJV study Bible. The page edges are guilded, and there's two indexs in for the articles and color-coded Scriptures, dedication and family-tree pages in the front, a smallish concordance, 9 full-color maps, and pages for recording and journaling in back. There's also center column formatted cross-references.

If you are a fan of Benny Hinn, then I recommend this Bible. It's not too huge (under 1.8 inches thick), and is small enough to carry around and preach without too much trouble. Even if you own lots of other Bibles, get this one. It will change the way you read and deepen your understanding of God's Word.

I've owned this bible in hardcover for a few years now, and was able to find it in leather, although only in bonded. This bible includes cross references, alternate and equivalent translations, language notes, literal translations, and short explanatory notes in the center column. In the text itself is a feature that I truly appreciate, which are old testament quotations indicated by small capital letters. I like to refer to the old testament quotes, and this immediately highlights them. The subject headings are within the chapters, not at the top of the page, which is a great help when trying to locate something. Also included beneath the subject heading are any applicable parallel passages. The typeface is listed on the box as "large print", and is dark and bold. The paper used in this bible is pretty opaque, so there isn't a lot of show-through of type. I use Micron Pigma pens to mark my bible and they do not appear to bleed through. The particular verses of scripture are color-coded to five themes, prayer, faith, healing, holy spirit, and the presence of God. This is a useful feature when working with people or witnessing. The devotions are fantastic, and have spurred me on to read more writings by their authors such as John G. Lake, E.M. Bounds, Smith Wigglesworth, Charles Spurgeon, Kathryn Kuhlman, and A.B. Simpson. There are indexes to the devotions and the topics they cover. Of course at the end of the bible there is a decent concordance with definitions of the words, and color maps. I really enjoy using this bible, as it contains all the features that I prefer, but is not big and bulky. In my opinion, this is a great Pentecostal bible.

Excellent "reader's" Bible
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2007-05-20
This is one of my favorite Bibles. Not only is it reasonably priced, it is also very well constructed, with a better Smythe Sewn binding than the Cambridge Plain text KJV I reviewed a few months ago. The bonded leather is a bit stiffer than the Cambridge example, but, overall, it is very well constructed for an inexpensive Bible.

The pages are pretty thin and the result is a reasonably thin Bible, less than 2" thick. Being a basic Bible, it contains no maps and only a very limited concordance, but also incudes a Counselor's guide which is helpful for the casual reader. While not a reference Bible, it is much easier to read than the usual two column format due to the unique single column format. The typeface is very readable, with one exception: the verse number in many cases, is too close to the leading character of the verse.

In short, though, you can find this very nice Bible, brand new or in "like new condition", for less than $30 at reputable sellers. I have obtained three additional copies for friends for less than $25, including shipping. Now that Nelson owns World Publishing, it will be interesting to see if they continue producing this version of the NASB. If you are a fan of the NASB, I highly recommend this Bible. I have yet to show someone this version who did not "Oooh!" and "Aaah!" over the single column format. I've also noticed that Crossway is publishing a single column format Reference ESV, a translation that I also admire, but I am not a fan of Crossway quality. I don't believe they use Smythe binding at all, which is a shame. The Thinline ESV I bought my wife 6 months ago is already looking quite worn (she does read it every morning, but carries it no where). Again, I highly recommend this Classic Companion edition, if you can find it.

Possibly the best NASU Bible I've ever seen

Let me expand on my review title. For a text oriented copy of the NASB, you'd be hard pressed to find a more enjoyable read of the scriptures. The single column, paragraph format is a welcome change from each verse being its own paragraph. Minor quibbles: as other reviewers have stated, giving OT quotations footnote references, in my opinion, would have been a welcome addition to the notes. They hardly take up space. I would have preferred they ditch the introductions. We have plenty of other works like Study Bibles & Bible Handbooks to consult for outlines and introductions. The Counselor's Topical Index could be useful in the right hands in the right circumstances, but I would have preferred some maps. Still, this is an excellent edition and I would commend any NAS reader to pickup a copy.

I second that!

I agree wholeheartedly with the review below. This is probably the best NASB in print. The combination of Single-Column formatting and paragraph format make it the most readable NASB. (most are two column and the notorious verse format). You will enjoy reading the poetry and OT prophets not oddly chopped in half like most other Bibles do. Bonded leather and gold trim round it out to make it a real winner. It does lack the cross-references, but if you have any other Bible, you can use those. The counselors index is also a nice addition. More useful than a bunch of maps.

As far as choice of translations, the NASB is not the only translation I read, but it is a good one. I teach the students in our Bible classes to avoid translations that have a philosophy of dynamic equivalence-- most notably the NIV. This is not because the NIV is a horrible Bible, but because it removes you one step further away from the original Word of God than you alredy are. You will fine many many places in the NIV that are not actually translated from the original text, but are "interpolated" by the translators. If you find the NASB choppy, try also the ESV or HCSB, which both strive to readable but literal, and do a great job.

All I want is a single-column NASB with minimal cross-references and reverse page see-through - i.e. I just want to interact with the Word in a simple format I'm used to, without distractions. These requirements are actually amazingly hard to find - but this Bible comes closest to it. The pages are thin and there is some reverse page see-through, but hopefully I'll get used to that. (If the publisher is watching, I think a bigger version with less reverse page see-through would sell well).
Burgundy and black covers available, although I think only black on Amazon.

Excellent Bible!

This Bible is wonderful. Not only is it NASB (probably the best translation available), but it also has only a single column! Some Bibles annoy me because they try to squeeze the text into two or more columns, squishing the text. The single column really enhances the readings of books such as Isaiah, Psalms, and Proverbs.

It's a great, inexpensive NASB Bible for casual reading, but definitely not a good study Bible (it wasn't made to be one, I don't think). It's just very nice and simple.

My biggest problem with the Bible was that it did not provide the references to quoted portions of the Old Testament in the New. Even a non-study Bible should have footnotes so we know where Jesus or Paul were quoted from in the Old Testament. They're in block lettering, and that's about it. It's a minor problem, however, and I am still extremely pleased with this Bible. So... buy it, read it, study it, and get to know the Author.

I received the NSB as a high school graduation gift. It is an excellent tool when studying the Word. The foot notes are pretty good, yet lacking on some important verses. They do not always clarify where needed. Yet with so many verses of the Bible you cannot really complain! Whats is really helpful is the built in concordance; while not exhaustive, still it contains the most widely used words Either way it beats carrying around a Strong's. Also helpful is the "Harmony of the Gospels" which tells all the recorded events in the Gospels and compares where they are documented between the 4 texts. Overall a great tool that has served me well the past few years. A great gift for young and old!

I first bought a Nelson Study Bible five years ago and over this period of time it has played an integral part in the development of my understanding of the Bible and more importantly, of God. I have never seen such detailed, historically valid, and readable commentary in any other study Bible; I haven't seen anything even get close.

The commentary was written and edited by 40 contributors with doctorial degrees in theology from seminaries all over the nation (five from Dallas Theological Seminary), and is nothing short of astonishing to look at and read. The focus is on the historical background behind the text of the Bible, which enables the reader to more fully understand some of the more difficult passages in scripture, especially those concerning symbolism and prophesies and laws in the Old Testament. There are graphs, charts, and summaries sprinkled throughout the book, along with detailed introductions to each book explaining the basics of what circumstances it was written under. In addition to all of this there are "Word Focus" sections that examine words in the original language that they were written in so that we can have better understanding of the English translation.

This Study Bible is written in such a way that it is great for both those who have known the Bible all their lives, and those who have never picked one up before but would like to.

I have bought five more of these Bibles since my first, for friends, and for myself as I love the commentary so much I have worn two Bibles out over this span. If I could give this six stars, I would- and if I had the money and ability to purchase one of these for every person who browsed this page, I would.

Buying this Study Bible is money well spent and with time invested in reading it you will gain a new and deeper understanding of God and his love for you.

This is my favorite study bible and I have several, including the NIV, LAB, Ryrie, Scofield, and others. But this far out surpasses any of them.. I have the NKJV and that also is my favorite version of the Bible.
The study notes at the bottom cover about every verse and is very good at explaining without over doing.. If I only had one Bible this is the one I would pick..
There is a lot of other reasons for liking this Bible, like the beginning commentary on each book, the IN Depth articles, Word focus, Quick View Charts, Concordance, Maps (in-text and full-color) and in the front of the book it tells where to find all of this with the page number.

As a lay bible teacher, I utilize the Nelson Study Bible as my first resource for lesson preparation and personal study. I have found the commentaries and other study aids efficient and sufficient. The economy of language, the obvious scholastic quality, and the breadth of discussion in a most readable and understandable manner make this an excellent reference resource for beginning and advanced bible students. I have recommended it to many new Christians, mature Christians, and non-Christians. This is a bible to pass on to those about whom you care deeply.
