Although some of the way of terminology is strange, the power of Prayer Rain is extreme. I highly recommend this book.

This prayer manual will certainly destroy all plans of the enemy that has been formed against you, your marriage, family, finances. You just name the situation and there is a remedy through prayer. Reviewing the HOLY BIBLE - now that's not right!

Well anyway. I have admired the teaching style and content of Pastor Chuck's Bible teaching for many years. I place a great deal of weight on his knowledge and years of experience in knowing God.

The quality of the book construction is excellent. The "bubbles" with Pastor Chuck's comments are a little over done. A lot of the comments are just that - comments. Others are an explanation of what is going on behind the text and tying together different scripture passages - very helpful.

I appreciate the information provided. I would have preferred a separate book as a commentary with more meat. Pastor Chuck certainly has the knowledge and experience to write such a book.

The bottom line: I would purchase this again. Be prepared for the distraction of 2-3 notes per page - often just Pastor Chuck's reaction to a scripture.

A Bible with commentary by one of the earth's best Bible teachers. It is like the reader is right there at a Bible study and Pastor Chuck is teaching.

I have sat under Chuck since the Jesus People Movement. I began as a wobbly new Christian, barely able to stand. His down-to-earth, expository teaching--verse by verse, chapter by chapter, book by book--placed me on a Rock and grounded in Christ. 37 years later, I'm still listening to him on MP3 and following along with this great commentary Bible, and passing on the good teaching to others. I cannot recommend this Bible with enough enthusiasm. It's perfect for new believers as well as old hands such as I.

Waht's to say? Restaurants come and go so frequently in New York that even natives are lost without one of these.

I love the Zagat guides for the dining recommendations, helpful information and the varied opinions of "the people". Helpful in making an educated decision as to where to dine.

We live outside of NYC in Stamford, CT and we head into the city about every other weekend. We love go out to eat and so we're ALWAYS carrying around this book (its small enough to fit in a medium sized purse) and reffering to the book to get an idea of price, atmosphere, location, etc. I refer to the book at least once a week to find out more information about a place....its the only place I look for reviews and it has basically become the only place I look for ideas on places to go! If its not in Zagat, usually I'm not interested in going!! Most of the times its for dinners, but I've looked it up a few times for lunch/bars too. Great sections - separated by location if you're looking for a particualr area of the city, or type of cusine, or atmopshere (even stuff like, does it have a fireplace?). Great gift....I've given it out several times to newcomers to the city, and they dont go anywhere w/o it either. Would buy again when my book gets old!!! And, I will buy it again for someone as a gift..!

Everyone who wants to eat well in NYC needs a Zagat guide. It lists almost every kind of cuisine, price level and restaurant location in the city. The reviewers are people just like you and me, they like to eat and they are willing to share their experiences. If you are visiting NYC for the first time, or for the 20th time, you need this book.

If you are planning to take a trip to New York City, be certain that you have the latest copy of Zagat's with you. It will totally enhance your dining experience. don't leave home without it.

The NIV study Bible is as good as it gets. The NIV translation is accurate and readable. The study notes were written by a team of scholars representing various traditions in evangelical faith. The notes greatly help the average reader understand what the original intent of the author was. I highly recommend this Bible for anyone wanting to understand the Bible.

I bought this Bible for my personal study and it is a great resource. I enjoy reading the study information they provide as it gives you a deeper look into the times and customs as well as geography. It can be a little distracting though as sometimes I find myself reading the supplemental information more that I am reading the text of the Bible itself. The leather is not as soft as I thought it would be and when I received it one of the pages had been cut oddly at the factory. Overall a good product.

Great book - great price. Gave me lots of ideas for my own projects. I was able to create original works using similar ideas to those others had made.

EXCELLENT review of many techniques, styles and approaches to clay tiles. Well presented with very good reproduction. A great addition to any potter or artists library. Expanded technical data would make this edition even better, but I still rate it a "9"...

This book is a bounty of styles and artistic ideas for what tiles could and may become, with an open mind and some creative techniques. As a beginning ceramicist, this is exactly the sort of thing I was looking for; as I wanted to break out of the traditional 4x4 square and make something wholly unconventional. I wasn't sure if my ideas would work, but after seeing what others have done I am inspired to make my dreams a reality. Thanks to books like these, I can let my imagination run wild and my only limit will be time and creativity.

Among the very best of the Lark Books "500" series. Brilliant color and design, not limited to traditional tiles and encouraging to the artist craftsman.

I must agree with the previous reviewers, the work in this volume certainly merits "Inspiring" being in the title.

As the juror states in the book's introduction, so much of the fun of this book is seeing the widely varied approaches the artists have taken with this format: figurative, abstract, painterly, sculptural, small-scale, architectural.

What a pleasure it has been to explore the works contained here, some by artists I know personally, or by reputation, and still others I am encountering for the first time. Highly recommended!

This little book is just what ive been looking for! I has a prayers for almost anything you need.And its not a made up prayer-it is Praying the WORD of God! I highly recommend it!

A very nice daily reading for every day of the year. It made a terrific gift for a close friend of mine who just can't manage reading a whole book as she becomes overwhelmed, but daily readings give her the spiritual lift she craves.

This book is ergonomic to say the least. It is easy to hold and to read. My only criticism is that the table of contents could have been better set up to describe the actual prayer. It is way too general and difficult to look up specific subjects. The prayers are, however, excellent. I love the book.

First I want to say that God is GREAT and he blesses people with spreading his words and Stormie is one of them. This book of prayers is something I desire in my walk with God. I read this book every night and I use the prayers when I need to speak to God. There are times when I am dealing with an issue and the prayers in this book is like God is speaking to me about the issue and how to handle them with His words. This is a replacement for one that was stolen. The genuine leather cover is far better than the bonded leather one I had before. And the price was even better than what I paid for the bonded leather version.

I found this bible to be very compact and it even has a reference. I bought it for its smallness and the good crisp typeface. A good pick when you gotta pack light!

This bible is a perfect size, not to big or small and the print is not large not too small, and there is something about the way in which it is bound that when it sits open it fits comfortably in your hand and the pages stay open until you change them, you know how some books are bound so when you open them you have to keep your hand on the page to keep it open, this is bound so that it stays where you open it, that is very important to prevent frustration. Enjoy

As far as English translations are concerned, I prefer the NKJV. It is a Nelson translation, so not all publishers carry it. For further reviews on the translation itself, there are many resources for comparison. I tend to read the same verse in various versions for comparison on personal preference. NKJV doesn't include pronunciation markings within the words, which I consider very distracting. If I am looking for a pronunciation guide in a KJV Bible, rather than markings within the words, they are hard to find. Also, I find the "thee" and "thou" and "eth" and the end of verbs shocking to read and harder to read with a "flow" (kind of interrupting). The NKJV takes care of all those complaints without detracting from the meaning of the passages.

I will proceed with reviewing the unique features of this Bible. It is a very comfortable size (perfect from my perspective). It is large enough for nice print size, and small enough for comfortable weight due to the slim binding. It has a reference column, which I was looking for in a slim line Bible. It also comes in genuine leather, which I think is a must for a long lasting Bible. I purchased it as a follow-on Bible to my Nelson 3016 (0785200304) - see my review for that one - I do love that Bible, but this one meets the only weaknesses of that one, without compromising the nice features. Nelson has a slim reference edition, but they don't have a genuine leather version for it, which in my opinion is a huge miss. If no references are desired, the Nelson 3016 is the best.

I bought the Burgundy version of this Bible for myself because my Nelson is black and I wanted a different color. I also bought the black one for a friend. The Burgundy color has a more red hue than purple. I really like the color. Before I ordered, I went to a local book store and saw the color of an NIV Holman slimline (they didn't have the NKJV in stock), and this is the same, so I am glad I saw the color first (it is hard to describe a color). I have posted photos to help visualizing product. It has a shiny finish with a grooved random looking pattern to the cover (both for the Black - 1558194371 and Burgundy - 1558194398 versions). One interesting tidbit is that the Black version comes in a red box, while the Burgundy version comes in a green box ... go figure. The concordance is identical to the Nelson mentioned before. The font is too (maybe a bit less spacing, since there is more text per page). The maps are nicer in this Bible than the ones in the Nelson. I do like the verse-by-verse format this Bible has (as does the Nelson) because I can find verses faster than looking through the middle of a paragraph. The tone of the red letter ink is nice and readable (not pink).

The only things that I have noticed as negatives (not quite) are:
1. The top page margin is wider than the bottom margin, but although it is kind of awkward at initial impression, I will use it in the event of taking notes ;-).
2. The leather is a bit stiff (at least more than my Nelson), but I hope that it will soften over time, since another friend has had one for a while and it is softer. It doesn't quite open flat yet as my Nelson does.
3. Some pages have a dimmer print (as with less toner), but not many.
4. The genuine leather only comes in Black and Burgundy. For me it's not bad, but tan or brown options would be nicer for some other people.

Finally, I must admit that I am a hard buy. I ended up buying 4 Bibles prior to this one and returned them all. I have several study Bibles, but for a daily (non-Study) Bible, this is the best!!

I have a older NIV Compact reference Bible (1989 version). And it contains book introductions & book outlines to every book in the Bible and still is easy to lug around. Wonder why the newer Compact Reference edition would rid a essential feature that was created in their 1989 edition? No matter I bought a backup compact reference edition used elsewhere.

Great Bible. I was shopping for a small one that fits in my pocket. This Bible fits easily into a back pocket on my pants (mens waist size 30). Might not fit in the pockets of females (thats what purses are for.)

This is the PERFECT take along Bible. It does exactly what I need it to do. So compact it fits in a pocketbook but not too small of print.

This is the best compact Bible I have ever owned. Usually, Bibles this size have flimsy covers that either wear out or tear in a matter of weeks.

The duo tone leather of this Bible is durable and holds up under wear and tear. The words of Jesus in red letter is a nice addition, and the Bible is very light and easy to carry. It is a little too big to stuff into your pants pocket, but women will be able to fit it into their purses and it should be small enough to fit into most coat pockets.

As with other compact Bibles, this is not the Bible for you if you have trouble with small print. I have shown this Bible to the older members in the congregation, and they laugh and say, "There's NO WAY I could read that Bible!" One person said, "I would need a magnifying glass."

But I like small print Bibles because it forces me to concentrate harder on the text. It sounds weird, I knowm but I actually retain what i read better with the smaller print Bibles.

This is a good Bible to carry when making home ministry visits. Some people unaccustomed to pastoral visitation may be uncomfortable with a visitor who is carrying a big honking KJV Bible, especially when they thenselves either don't own one, or are not active in the practice of the Christian faith.

If you don't mind small print, then you will be very pleased with this version of God's Word.

I agree with another reviewer, that information about the NIV Compact Bible was a bit sparse. I bought it largely based on the reviews given here, so thank you to all who reviewed it before me! I was very impressed with it.

It has all the features of larger Bibles, with the centre-page cross-reference system that NIV is famous for, and a mini-concordance at the back. The print is good and still readable, though it is on the small side, being a compact Bible. The pages are arranged in the familiar NIV Study Bible layout.

Each book in the Bible has the usual NIV introduction to it, which may or may not be useful to some.

The cover is leather,(as stated), and it is finished in matt, with no shine to it. It is soft and flexible, and feels nice, actually. The quality is very good, and it looks quite elegant.

"Compact" is an apt description for this Bible. It could easily fit in a handbag or sachel, but you would need a decent sized pocket to get it in. However, it would fit in most coat pockets, I think. It is quite light, and it is definitely more compact than most "compact" Bibles that I have seen about.

This Bible would be excellent for prayer portability, and just having something with you to whip out if you have a moment to read and relax in the day. It would not be a problem to constantly carry it with you. With all the features of the NIV Bible, it is a great little book. I love the thing.

I enjoy reading this bible. From my understanding, the author went through the original texts and put it in todays language. It is hard for me to understand the King James and NIV. I am very satisfied with this bible.

I'm very liturgical and conservative in my Bible reading & lessons and do not appreciate wild interpretations of scripture. I do appreciate the scripture being put into the context with which I speak today, and that is exactly what this book is. Eugene Peterson spent a lot of his time preaching on the meaning of the scripture and this a book of those sermons and more. Interspersed among the verses are insertions about the message that takes the reader one step further in understanding the scripture and putting it into terms that are easily understood. If you read the Beatitudes and don't come away with a further enlightenment of the Bible and enrichment of your faith, then you're a stone!

Great devotional and reading Bible. Replaced my message Bible. Just what I was looking for.

The Message is very readable and relevant, offering dramatic insights into passages that seem less personal in other translations. The print size and presentation (single column on off-white paper) are pleasing to read in this edition of the Message Bible. Eugene Peterson's comments and reflections are poignant and thought provoking. My main disappointment is that his notes are somewhat few and far between in some places. For example, no notes are included between Ezekiel chapters 1-18.

I admit it - I'm a Bible Geek. Especially when preparing a lesson or sermon, I love to compare many different translations/paraphrases and different reference materisl and notes. This was a welcome addition to my collection & has been very useful in finding ways to explain a verse or story in a quick few sentences OR being able to find a new veiw or question to consider - so very important when talking with people who've been hearing Bible stories & passages since they were toddlers.

My spiritual director told me it is essential to buy two books, to start spiritual direction: this book and Heliotropium: Conformity of the Human Will to the Divine. Both have been excellent resources, but this book is one I consider to be a completely under-appreciated gem of Catholic spirituality. It goes by the pre-V2 liturgical calender, with meditative reflections for each day. The book IS expensive, but I think it is worth every penny - particularly for the leather bound, as you'll want to read this every day for the rest of your life.

Devotion or "prayer" in the spiritual life differs greatly from the formal, organised study of Philosophy and Theology - it is the personal search for God - the daily practise, if you like, of "dialoguing" with one's Creator, a practise essential for every Christian.
I can think of no better aid beyond the Word of God itself (and frequent attendance at the Sacraments) than "Divine Intimacy" to bring the serious - and sincere Christian - to a better awareness of God in his daily life.

This book finally eliminates the possibility of the Christian practising something other than what he preaches.It will bring him in line with the highest aspects of the Christian Faith. Invaluable.

I have both this book and In Conversation With God. This book tends to be more contemplative, while Fr. Fernandez's books (ICwG) tends to be more pastoral. Also, this book follows the readings of the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite, while the ICwG books follow the post-concilliar cycle of readings.

I can honestly say that this book is very good for giving your prayer life a jump start. I get more out of it when I couple it with a Rosary or quiet time. If you want to read a section, set it down and go back to your daily activities, you won't get much out of this. It is meant to be a springboard to further prayer.

Finally, and Baronius Press has now acquired the sole rights to print this book in English, so I don't think you will be able to get this edition by Tan Books.

I'd highly recommend getting a Sunday Missal or Daily Missal according to the 1962 rite, too. It makes following the readings a lot easier.

We have several similar books but I have never succeeded at sticking with them. I really like that this is broken down into short meditation readings (about 1 1/2 to 2 pages) and then a colloquy (a "conversation" with God) about the meditation. They follow the cycle of the Church, although not 100% up to date with Vatican II from what I can tell.

My wife and I have made it part of our daily prayer life.

"Divine Intimacy" is a set of daily readings and meditations that trace the Church's Liturgical year. The readings and meditations are both deep and profound. Each reading takes us through a meaningful set of issues, relative to the Liturgy. And the meditations are the reflections of the Saints on these particular issues.

This past year, I have begun every day with a reading and a meditation from "Divine Intimacy". And it has been a wonderful start for each day of this wonderful year. I strongly recommend this practice to all. God bless.
