A complete task.Review Date: 2004-11-30
Peter Stone's work is comparatively new to me but I have to admit that I have been very impressed with what I have seen so far. As mentioned in other reviews, I am currently researching every aspect of a number of ships which are regarded as some of the world's greatest "diveable" shipwrecks of which the President Coolidge is a leading example.
Having read this book and verified some of the details found within it's pages, I found a number of differences between what is published here and what is published by other leading authorities. On further investigation, however, I found Peter Stone's data to be the more accurate. Enough said.
The book contains a complete insight into, and history of, both ship and shipping line, details of the loss of the vessel plus that all-important aftermath and the way in which her master was treated, post-war salvage and modern-day diving. These are then followed by a number of Appendices containing additional relevant information and more.
Laid out in an easy-to-follow and immensely readable way, I view this as one of the most complete accounts of a single ship I have ever encountered.

A delightful older couple --Review Date: 2000-07-07
This is the concluding book in a trilogy begun with THE FORTESCUE DIAMOND and continued into DeLACY'S ANGEL. Readers of these earlier books will not only be happy at becoming reacquainted with characters from them, but will delight in meeting several new and intriguing members of London society at the end of continental hostilities.
In this particular episode, we learn more about the Lady Serena Duchesne, who works hard to establish--and maintain--her reputation as an eccentric spinster. The daughter of a Duke, she also has a secret which she guards diligently. She is the anonymous author of several daring novels, written for and about the snobbish ton she knows so well.
Enter Mr. John Macy, "Gentleman" who arrives for the Season with impeccable letters of introduction. A retired master spy, the world of intrigue and danger threatens to reclaim him, if his interest in Lady Serena doesn't bring him down first.
This unlikely, but totally charming and slightly older couple combine their sharp intelligence to bring about several happy endings, but what else would one expect from an author who is positively a spell-binding storyteller and writer?

This book is so marvelous, because never once, does the heroine fade into a creature that must be saved by the hero. Instead, the hero, is just that, for the respect that he lends Lady Alex and the sensitivity he shows in helping her to be even stronger and more independent.
All of Evelyn Richardson's books are about strong independent women and the men that are secure enough with themselves to offer respect and support to the women they love. This is my favorite book by this author. A must read.
