Jared's Lady is very passionate and I think all romance book lovers should read it. Its even better than Ivy Preston's Tumult
of the heart. Even though it is now out of print, try to get this book quick before it becomes extinct!

a child-sized dose of history

Trish Marx's readable biography of Jeannette Rankin is a perfectly rendered child-sized dose of American political history.
Written in accessible blank verse, it tells the story of Rankin's courageous career as a campaigner against war and for the
rights of women and children.
The book's seven chapters chronicle the childhood, young womanhood, early political career, private life and later life achievements of Rankin, a woman whose spirit will appeal to modern young readers. Dan Andreasen's sepia-toned drawings, alternating with softly rendered paintings, bring a warm period feel to the book. The text would make for a good read-aloud in a classroom setting, or the subject of biography book reports. Exceptionally well-done.

This is truly a fascinatng portrait of a remarkable woman. Lady Churchill was an unconventional woman who made a life for
herself on her own terms, influencing many people of great importance, including her son Winston Churchill. It's a terrific
read.

A sweeping historical novel for women and men...

Review Date: 2007-08-04
Review Date: 2007-08-04
This book is a wonderfully sweeping historical novel of the life and times of the mother--and extended family--of British
Prime Minister Winston Churchill. Set against the backdrop of Victorian and Edwardian England, as well as the centennial era
of the young United States of America, this novel is a revealing glimpse into the people and world of those generations. From
the 1870s to the 1920s, the high and low societies of both the United Kingdom and the States are spoken of with care as well
as candor. It unmasks the end of the Golden Age of England so idolized by many uninformed citizens of the United States--from
the inhumane class inequities to the thinly veiled moral hypocrisies of the upper crust. The life and loves of the U.S.-born
Miss Jeanette Leonard, then Lady Randolph Churchill, then Mrs. George Cornwallis-West, then Mrs. Montague Porch, and finally,
simply Lady Randolph Churchill, are told in a way that stirs the feminine heart while not alienating the masculine reader.
The story beautifully covers the amazing life of this world traveler, behind-the-scenes political engineer, and pioneering
woman of energy and intelligence. Mr. Martin writes in an easy, flowing style, though still serving up plenty of primary-source
material to satisfy the student of history.

I have recently had the privilege of reading three of Carol Behrmans books for the Presidential Series: John Adams, Thomas
Jefferson, and Andrew Jackson. Ms. Behrman skillfully shows the background, eccentricities, strong principles that made the
pathways, and crossroads of their lives clear and comprehensible. Clearly these books show how the incidents and choices of
these founding fathers were a beautiful part of the mosaic that is the history of our country. Best of all as children read
these books they may forgot they are reading well-documented history. These biographies are as interesting and intriguing
as well-plotted novels!

My second grade son and I have enjoyed reading this and the other Stories of Famous Americans. We are studying early American
History and I really enjoy offering him readers with historical content. He enjoyed this story so much, he has decided to
pursue a law degree and become a politician himself(for this week!). I love books that encourage him to reach for the stars.

John Adams "Independence Forever" by Janet & Geoff Benge

I don't think the recommended age for any books written by Janet and Geoff Benge be limited to high school age. These books
are packed with chronological details and additive stories. You can't put them down until you are finished. John Adams wanted
to be a farmer and his father insisted he get a good education. Who knew he would be one our most important founding fathers?
You will soon discover details of John's life that leads up to him being a great man. All curiosity about the subjects of
the "Heroes of History" books is satisfied because the authors start at the beginning of their lives until the very end.
They are quick reads - packed with valuable, well-researched life stories. I recommend that any age group start ordering
these books, and if you want to get your kids hooked on historical figures, this is the way to go. You will want to read
everything they have penned.

I am a teacher of middle school students with learning disabilities. What a treasure Mike Venezia's many books are. They are
well-written, funny and accessible -- while being factually correct. The students really learn a lot from these books. The
students got to see the benefits of the Federalist party, which generally they thought was only for the interests of big money.
