This is one of the most beautiful cookbooks I have ever seen. Being from the region, I feel that sometimes people do not get an accurate picture of who and what we are. This book tells it beautifully. Not only with wonderful regional recipes, but with beautiful photography and interesting and insightful information.

This would be a wonderful gift for someone not from here who would like to get an idea about the area and the culture of Southwest Louisiana.

This book is an excellent resource for elementary math teachers. This book allows you to be creative with using children's literature in every day math classes. From using children's literature counting books to using a Dr. Seuss Book to teacher elementary geometry, this book is an excellent resource.

This book contains examples that pertain to many types of mechanical concepts. Most machines I have personally been involved with use instances explained in the book. As a referece guide alone it is fantastic.

I have used this book for the past 5 years in teacher seminars. It contains many many tips and suggestions for integration real world technology: heavy equipment, cars, bicycles, lawn chairs, steam engines, amusement park rides. The mathematics ranges from simple multiplication applied to gear ratios to complex geometry used in linkages. Model building in the math classroom is a fun way to try out the theory shown. There are also numerous excelent exercises.

I love the TV show Degrassi, so the book I hope will be VERY good. The plot will hopefully not be worse. But if they run along the plot of the TV show, it will be VERY good.

Melanie was barely a focus in Degrassi so I thank the author for writing a book on her. She is a normal teenager with low self esteem so she starts lying about her life to letters sent from her to her father. She develops a crush on Snake but is she pretty and cool enough to hang out with an 8th grader? Can't she see that Yick likes her liiiikes her? Who will she choose? What will she do? This story is so funny, touching and valuable. I hope all the kids that read it learn to value themselves, and not worry what other people think of them. They are worth it!

This book is too good to put into words. A MUST READ for any parent. If you want to be a good parent (like we all do) this shows you how to give your kids the world. By showing them how to tap into their own mind power they will live a happier life, which is what we all want for our children.

Minds in Motion: A Kinesthetic Approach to Teaching Elementary Curriculum by Susan Griss

In a No-Child-Left-Behind era we hear many teachers say they have little or no time for art. Dance teacher Susan Griss reminds us that dance can be used as a useful teaching tool across all curricula to improve students understanding and to help the teacher assess that understanding as well as to get students to solve problems together and assess for themselves. She has suggestions for those teachers who might not be comfortable with dancing themselves and offers specific lessons that a teacher can use in math, science, social studies, language, reading and the other arts. Griss's clear and thoughtful writing can leave the reader believing that dance is an essential for the classroom.

"Squirm to Learn" Activities Are the BEST!
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 7 total.
Review Date: 2002-04-30
Susan Griss has written an outstanding book that demonstrates the superior value of actively incorporating the bodily-kinesthetic intelligence in learning. Movement brings oxygen to the brain resulting in enhanced interest and more focused mind-on-task behavior. She clearly shares how we may have been "taught" certain concepts, yet did not learn these ideas because of lack of physical, active involvement.
The one activity that I have used with teachers focuses on asking them: "Through which medium does sound travel the farthest: solid, liquid, or gas?" The results are evenly divided until we act out the "molecules."
This book has led me to look for and develop novel ways to get students' "Minds in Motion." One way is to develop a "Minds in Motion" chart from poster board. Using "Minds in Motion" for the title(3" letters)and five entries below it(3" letters with 3/4" between) with room on the left sidefor a 3" x 5" card with an answer on it clothes-pinned to each of the movements, the teacher reads a question, give them time to think, and then says: "Show!" The students perform the movement(jump rope, high 5, truck horn, YMCA, or round of applause) associated with the answer.

Zany Rhyming Fun!
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 1999-11-23
Nate Evans has created a Grahame Base, Dr. Seuss- type book that is a fun read for young and old. Lessons about boasting, cynicism, greediness all rolled up into one fun book. Bongo and Lu have their work cut out for them as they help Prof. Yahoo find "animals" for the queen's zoo. The fact that the Professor has lost his glasses is of no concern to him! One last slip at the end of the day saves the day.

Does Nate Evans have any more books I should know about?

My children gently drifted off to sleep, hearing this story night after night. Conover's comforting and evocative illustrations opened up their imaginations while the words of Mildred Plew Miegs gently wafted over them. The alliteration in this poem is unmatched by current children's literature. This classic story, beautifully illustrated, is simply sublime. A must for any child's library.

Moon Song has been my favorite childhood book since, oh, I don't know, kindergarten. I was drawn to the beautiful illustrations (my favorite being the zodiac picture that says nothing, but is worth a thousand words). Also the beauty of the writing, and the mysterious line that repeats about every other page: "Only the moon man knows". The book is set in a child's dream. I truly reccomend this book for a young child's bedtime story or for someone seaching for their "inner child". It brings memories of the days when everyday could be spent basking in the moon man's net "fashioned of moonbeams three".

In Moral Classrooms, Moral Children, authors Rheta DeVries and Betty S. Zan draw on and extend the work of Jean Piaget into the realm of sociomoral development. The authors argue that constructivist education must involve more than the special activities with which it is commonly associated (such as group games, physical-knowledge and whole language activities). Planning must also include provision for children's social and moral development, since children construct their moral understandings from the raw material in their day-to-day social interactions. To this end the authors provide a rationale for a particular type of sociomoral atmosphere in the early childhood classroom and describe the practical ways in which teachers can cultivate it.

My eight year old daughter loves these stories and has collected the whole set. She is now quite an authority on Greek legends and listening to them has increased her vocabulary enormously. They are well presented and very entertaining. Great for a long journey.

Great music and classic tales well told.

I bought the Tales of the Greek Legends for my children when they were only 5 and 7. They are now 14 and 16 and they still love these stories. I highly recommend this version of the Greek Myths.
