My son had to make a presentation on the Kiowa tribe. This book was recommended on a web site we found. It packed a lot of information into its pages. It told the tale of the life and plight of these people so my son could use details in his talk and bring the people to life. (4th grade project)

An excellent introduction to Kiowa culture and history

I was surprised at the clear and concise writing that introduces the reader to the history and culture of the Kiowa people. The author looks at the Kiowa people's relationships with surrounding tribes and their understanding of their own environment. There is some real depth on relating the survival of the Kiowa to the vision of the buffalo entering Mount Scott in Oklahoma. The author does an outstanding job of showing that the Kiowa people's ongoing survival is specifically because of the richness of their own history and culture. A great glossary and fine illustrations also add to the overall value of this book.

I am a first and second grade teacher and I just happened to show the video of this book during a unit on Africa. What a fun story! The main character is a kind, generous person who feels he has been treated badly by the people of his village. The text is predictable so the children sort of know what's coming and they love it! They particularly enjoy the large, fat lady of the new village who wants to eat Koi. All of Koi's kindness and generosity are repaid during the course of the story and the children become very involved in his plight. I would recommend this book for teaching story elements and characterization. It is also a very good story to use when teaching story mapping. I plan to use it often!

I really enjoy this book. It has a great easy-to-read layout without too many confusing recipes. The recipes are user friendly but also geared to a somewhat sophisticated palette. I also usually have most ingredients on hand. I love the Baked Potato Soup! You will enjoy the pictures too.

Easy to read textbook with lots of good, classroom tested ideas - especially for discipline. The teaching methods are based on scientific-based FL research with examples that are realistic. However, some of the web addresses cited in the chapter references are obsolete. This is the required text for my master's course in Spanish education and I highly recommend it.

My dissertation research includes interviewing children and I found this book to be extremely insightful and helpful! I would recommend this book to anyone that is thinking about (or in the process of) working on research with children, especially in the sciences.

while so many school administrators worry about improving standardized test scores, they fail to care whether students actually comprehend the most basic science concepts. rote memorization is not the answer, as it has been proven that children will regurgitate what is expected of them for an exam, without actually changing the way they innately feel about scientific phenomena. afterwards, the majority of them will revert back to their original ideas. the authors stress the constructivist viewpoint: it is imperative to acknowledge and respect children's existing ideas about science -- be they right or wrong -- when teaching new concepts and elaborating upon old ones in the science classroom. once the basics are learned, the rest of the world is a cinch. all science educators should read this one, for they cannot help but become better teachers for doing so. phenomenal!

Just like grandma used to make.

My aunt gave me a copy of this book one year for Christmas, and I've found it is the one of the only cookbooks I ever consult. I grew up eating Lebanese food and have come to appreciate it more by cooking all the things my mom never had time to teach me how to make. This is a great book for those who grew up with this cuisine, as well as those interested in trying out healthy "Mediterranean" cooking.

I am so filled with joy when I saw this cookbook at your site. It is the same one(11th edition) that my grandmother has cooked from for years. She is not lebanese, but my grandfather is and he loves her cooking. It has your basic kibbe, tabouli, and hummus recipes, as well as more complex and wondeful recipes. I have ordered it and would like to thank you once again, this is the best Lebanese cookbook made...and ya'll have it...thanks!

I started "reading" this book to my daughter when she was three months old. The illustrations are so bright and vivid that even at that age she could enjoy them. The book has remained a favourite now that she is 18 months old, and we read it every day (several times!) Despite all the times I have read it to her I have not grown tired of the book, and she continues to love it, both of which are strong recommendations. I have bought copies for many other friends, all of whom report that their children have enjoyed it.

Introducing Fractions

I had used this book prior to buying it. It has an assortment of wonderful activities to use in order to help your students/children understand the concept of fractions. It also helps the instructor to know how to guide the discussion during the activities.

Wonderful approach!

We homeschooled for upper elementary grades, and my daughter simply did not "get" fractions. I tried several standard curriculums before investing in this book. By the end of it, my daughter was finally solid on fractions.

Although the book is written for classroom use, it is easily adapted to working one-on-one. It starts out by having the teacher and student create their own sets of manipulatives. These are used in subsequent chapters to illustrate and reinforce concepts. Multiple ways of looking at fractions are explained in each chapter, which helps a child find an approach that works for him or her.

I highly recommend this book for any parent wanting to help a struggling student understand fractions.
