I have a two year old and he loves reading this book. We have a routine now where I read and he does the sound and hand motions at the end of each page, for each tool. I highly recommend it.

Great book for young kids who like both Barney and tools. My 2-year old tried opening the toolbox Barney is holding on the cover when he first got this book! On each page Barney, BJ and Baby Bop are shown working with different tools: a hammer, a saw, a screwdriver and a paintbrush. Everywhere my son goes, he takes along "Barney's Toolbox" grabbing it by the handle cut-out from the board book itself. I'm pleasantly surprised it's still in good condition after 7 months of constant arduous use by my toddler.

Junior League cookbooks are always wonderful collections of recipes that real people of any skill level can make in their own kitchens. This book has helped me entertain in my own home with full menus that include make ahead or last minute options. Several of the recipes have become staple last minute items for spur of the moment entertaining. Wonderful information about the local area is included for those who like to read about the festivals and history of this beach community.

From Florida's west coast, comes a seafood lover's delight, which also includes terrific meat recipes and scrumptious appe-tizers. Our food reviewers like nothing bet-ter than to find good recipes for Sunday brunch. "That's the time when people sit around the food for hours," said one judge. "Food goes under the microscope. It needs to look as good as it tastes." Beach Appetit conjures the essence of lazy weekends on the beach and a perfect meal to boot.

This book gives good insight into the world of teaching and how the differences we perceive as teachers are some of the same differences our students face in the learning process. It opens your eyes to understanding your role as a teacher and how the stereotypes we bring with us may affect our effectiveness as teachers. I recommend this book to everyone trying to understand how to effectively teach a diversity of students to reach their full potential.

I think that racism is an almost impossible subject to tackle; but if there is a good reason to go through it - it is our future, the kids. These two authors struggle with the issues and come to some important understanding. If you really want to understand it and if you need a powerful reason to struggle with it. This book will help you do it.

A must read for educators of emergent readers. Marie makes it clear how young readers learn and how they need to be guided through the process. She does not promote any specific program but outlines the components of a balanced approach to teaching reading. Thank you Marie!

G.S. Morrison? Jo Ann Brewer? Feeney, Christensen, & Moracivik? Watch Out!

This text packs some major punch...quite unexpectantly.

I've been waiting for this new edition from Gordon & Brown for four years. The last book was pretty intriguing. It had some very well-written sections on DAP, but this book takes a giant leap forward.

The key to a good early childhood introductory textbook is four-fold: (1) affordable, (2) comprehensive, but...,(3)...succinct, and (4) evidence-based. I think this book makes major improvements in three/four parts over the last edition.

Unfortunately, this book is not affordable compared to G.S. Morrison's FUNDAMENTALS OF EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION or Brewer's INTRODUCTION TO EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION which are both under 100 bucks. This book is $103.00. Not good for the money-struggling undergrad or vocational student:(

The other three areas are where it soars pretty, surprisingly high.

It's quite comprehensive, a bit more than Brewer's text and a lot more than Morrison's text, especially in the theoretical parts. Morrison, nor Brewer talks about the transactional aspect of constructivism. Feeney et al's WHO AM I IN THE LIVES OF CHILDREN aludes to it, but that's it. Consequently, BEGINNINGS & BEYOND has new knowledge that these other heavyweights are not pulling.

Compared to Feeney et. al.'s thorough but somewhat drawn out style, this book is as clear as glass. They hit the basics, tell the details, and move on. Sometime's Feeney's book overwhelms while Brewer's and Morrison's books underwhelm. Gordon & Browne...almost get it just right...almost.

I think that an excellent textbook should integrate research into the content because that is where it comes from. Morrison rarely did this in his book while Brewer and Feeney sometimes too zealously integrated it. Gordon & Browne do it sparingly...only when necessary. That's a good approach for an intro text.

Do we have a new champion???

This is a question rather than a review. Since you want to sell books, and this book, The Bora Bora Dress, has a starred review from Booklist, why do you carry this sour review from School Library Journal? Couldn't you at least include the Booklist review to balance the one from SLJ?

I like this book because it is funny. Thomas the Tank-Engine stars in this book. But there's also his friend Percy in this book. I have read this story on the Salty's Secret DVD at the Read-Along storybook at the Fun & Games Shed. I really suggest that you get this book and read it to your children. Thanks! I am Mike Nicholson, Thomas' fan. And out! Goodbye!!

Both my sons (ages 1 & 3) love this book - it's their favorite bed-time story, with it's colorful illustration and fun/humorous storyline. They even pretend to read the story themselves, as they point to the egg on Thomas' nose & giggle. It's a delightful storybook for little ones.

Bruch Basket is currently in its 5th printing with over 30,000 copies sold! Including over 600 double-tested recipes, Brunch Basket goes beyond cooking, with a section that shows clever uses of baskets, as well as recipes for edible baskets and entertaining ideas. The artwork on the cover and throughout the book is by local, nationally acclaimed artist Tom Heflin. Brunch Basket has been featured on NBC's "Today Show" and in Good Housekeeping Magazine. It's a MUST-HAVE for cookbook collectors and those who like to cook! (Try the quiche recipe on page 167. It has never failed me!)

I love to collect cookbooks from all over the country. I have found that Junior League cookbooks contain some of the best recipes highlighting the areas specialties. This is one of the better cookbooks I have bought and not just because of the beautiful artwork. The citrus chicken, spinach pie, and artichoke cheese dip are just a few of the recipes that I have prepared over and over. It is one of the cookbooks I grab when I need a good recipe and not just for brunch. It also contains some great Swedish recipes representing the large Swedish population of the area. A great cookbook for a gift and for yourself and the artwork of Tom Heflin is an added bonus.
