This book is wonderful. If you are an IB school and need to have central theme, lines of inquiry, questions, activities, this is the book for you. I am able to lift all of that information right out and plug into a planner. Plus I'm able to supplement the lessons I teach. This does allow me to plan additional stuff that can be used for centers to. An excellent book.

This was a fun read. Lewis cleverly makes his point. I seldom laugh out loud while reading. However I did with this book.

THE SCREWTAPE LETTERS by C. S. Lewis
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2008-01-27
The Screwtape Letters is Lewis's classic collection of diabolical correspondence. In it, a senior devil gives continued advice to his protégé on how best to tempt his victim and keep him from salvation.

Lewis does not propose any concrete doctrine on devils here, and this is not his point. Rather he focuses on highlighting the ways, both large and small, that Christians are distracted from God. Lewis explores the dangers of not being purposeful toward God and life, as well as what happens to people when they give in to temptation.

The book is presented as a collection of letters, all from Screwtape to Wormwood. But Lewis does a good job of making the conversation not feel one-sided, and he does a fantastic job with the devils' personalities. In fact the book is rather deeper than this, as there are two other plots going on. First is the fate of Wormwood's man. Second is the relationship between the devils, and the fate of Wormwood.

The Screwtape Letters is deeper than it appears, and is thoroughly thought-provoking. Most every reader will find elements in it to which he or she can relate. Christians of all maturity levels can benefit from this book.

Seaboard to Sideboard is like taking a vaction at the beach without leaving the comfort of yourhome... This is a wonderful book filled with great recipes, beautiful photos and an enchanting historical narritive of the Cape Fear Coast. Seaboard to Sideboard was just chosen as the 1999 Tabasco winner of best regional cookbook from the south. This is a "must buy" for anyone who appreciates a really great book.

I've been collecting Junior League cookbooks for years. This book is absolutely gorgeous!!! The artistry and contents are exceptional. This is the best book I've seen since "Stop and Smell the Rosemary" in 1997. Some of these books are "double-yawners", this is not the case. Go buy it! I cannot say enough good things abount Amazon.com - they were so exceptional in their service to me. Buy it, no hassles, get it right now!!!

Born in El Paso, raised nearby, lived another 20 years there: I can testify that these are wonderful recipes. Also, the information about the area is accurate and interesting. I own two printings of this book, and have bought it for friends and daughters-in-law (so they would know how to cook for my sons!). All in all, a fine publication.

Fabulous cookbook - withstands the test of time!

I've had my copy of Seasoned with Sun since 1978 and am purchasing this version for my 3 grown daughters. This cookbook has grown up with our family (I was raised in El Paso but moved away in 1979) and am thrilled that two family "must-haves" are still in - Jim's Carrot Cake and Sour Cream Banana Pecan Cake.
This book has made me look good for years - now it's my daughters' turn!

Terrific Southwestern Cookbook, also great general recipes

This must be the BEST Junior League Cookbook around. It is beautiful, with wonderful Southwestern illustrations. It's layout is unique and easy to use with great tips and hints. All the recipes were thoroughly tested by local families. But the best part of all is the great Southwestern (Mexican) recipes that are easy to follow - no weird ingredients unless reasonable substitutes are listed. And they are absolutely delicious. This is a cut above. It sounds like I'm in Junior League, but I'm not - I just LOVE the cookbook. I found it here because I want to send one to a friend in another part of the country. It's a real favorite of mine.

I collect Junior League Cookbooks because they always have the most fabulous recipes, this book is no exception, in fact I really love it! This book has 240 pages and it's contents are in categories such as:
Breads, Breakfast, Appetizers, Salads, Soups, Cold Drinks, Vegetables, Side Dishes, Poultry, Seafood, Meat, Pasta, Desserts, Hot Beverages. Some of the many recipes include Cranberry Bread, Lemon Nut Bread, Apple Bran Muffins, Pumpkin Muffins, Raspberry Streusel Muffins, Swedish Pancakes, Polish Doughnuts, Pecan Breakfast Rolls, Asparagus Quiche, Banana Berry Smoothies, Stuffed Mushrooms, Spinach and Artichokes in Puff Pastry, Coconut Shrimp, Spinach Salad, Chinese Chicken Salad, Chicken and Rice Asparagus Salad, (several dressings for salads), Chicken Ceasar Pasta Salad, Mexican Chicken Corn Chowder, Tortilla Soup, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Apple Butter, Chicken and Spinach Calzones, Chicken Chili, Stuffed Green Peppers, Linguini With Clam Sauce, Eggplant Parmesan, Carrot Cake, Cranberry Almond Pound Cake, Gingerbread Cake, Lemon Cake, Pumpkin Cookies with Caramel Frosting, Apple Rhubarb Pie, Chocolate Pecan Pie, Praline Pumpkin Pie, Chocolate Hazelnut Torte, Warm Apple Crisp, Chocolate Espresso Cake, and so much more. When I see reviews on Cookbooks, I love it when the reviewer lists some of the many recipes that can be found in the book, many times I'll purchase a cookbook just for some of the recipes listed in the review. I hope this helps you to get an idea of how many fabulous recipes that can be found in this one, trust me I couldn't even begin to tell you how invaluable this cookbook truly is, you just have to try it! You can get some pretty terrific deals on good used books from private sellers, you just can't go wrong with this one!

Enhanced with the photography of Jeff Hage, the food stylings of Virginia Hutchins, and the illustrations of Christina Schloss Forhan, Seasons In Thyme: Favorite Recipes & Menus From The Junior League Of Birmingham Michigan showcases more that 225 "triple tested" recipes organized in four seasonal menus sections. Incorporated with useful cooking tips, unique ingredient facts, and interesting Michigan trivia, the recipes are drawn from some of Detroit's most famous restaurants and chefs. From Pear-Stuffed French Toast; Mandarin Orange Salad Dressing; Orzo with Broccoli, Tomatoes and Feta Cheese; and Portuguese Seafood Stew; to Sun-Dried Tomato and Spinach Pasta; Cranberry Almond Pound Cake; Praline Pumpkin Pie; Rack of Lamb with Caramelized Pears and Chestnuts; and Michigan Apple and Cherry Cobbler, Seasons In Thyme is as "user friendly" as it is elegantly impressive.

What a beautiful and useful book! Most Junior League cookbooks are wonderful, but this one by the Junior League of Birmingham, MI is a true find. I turn to this book often for easy and elegant recipes that are always crowd pleasers. Not a single recipe has disappointed me. The photographs are gorgeous and the cooking tips sprinkled throughout the book are helpful. I like the fact that the recipes all come from real people and that they have all been triple tested--it makes me less nervous to try a new one. Seasons In Thyme also highlights local Michigan flavors, everything from "up north" fare to varied ethinic dishes--it's a great regional cookbook. It makes a useful and beautiful addition to any cook's cookbook collection.

I received this as a gift when I moved into my first apartment many moons ago.

I have not tried a recipe that didn't receive rave reviews. Many have become "signature" dishes in our household and for pot-luck meals.

A good starting point for good South Texas cooking! I'm considering it as a gift for fellow friends and family who are ex-pat Texans.

Best in South Texas!

This is one of the best cook books that has the best recipes for the type of food served in South Texas, part American and part Mexican. A lot of people like Mexican food but no all Mexican food places prepare the true Mexican food as it should be. The book is self explanatory and simple to follow. Recipes are easy to follow and the ultimate outcome of each dish is absolutely delicious. This has been my favorite cook book since it came out. I also use the cook book published before this one by the Jr. League of McAllen League, Inc. called "La Pinata" which is hard to find nowadays. Try it you will like it.

The Best Junior League Cookbook I've Seen

Review Date: 2001-03-30
A friend gave this book to me as a gift and I have enjoyed every recipe I've tried. The selection is unique and not "show-offish" like so many of the League cookbooks are. These are easy to prepare, quick recipes for those of us in the real world who don't want recipes for entertaining, but rather an assortment of good meals for the every day mom who just wants to nurture her family. There is a huge selection here, (over 700 recipes) but my favorites were the "Chidrens' Favorites" and the "Desperate Gourmet" section. Planner in the back is good too. My mother-in-law likes to "read" cookbooks (as if they were novels) and never cooks from them. If you're one of those people, Ma says it's also great for armchair reading.

My long time favorite!

This is the most used and best loved cookbook in my collection. For years, my mother owned a copy and my sister and I would call home after moving away for her to dictate our favorite recipes to us. Finally, we realized that we each needed our own copy. I use this cookbook for almost every meal I cook. There are so many great classic entrees, as well as many great vegetable side dishes that I use daily. The recipes in this cookbook have become my family's favorites. I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a well-designed cookbook, with easy to use recipes and classic Southern cuisine.

Very enjoyable! Finally, an all-around great cookbook!

This is the best cookbook I've ever seen! It is wonderfully organized with the best index I've found in any book. Recipes are indexed several different ways which makes locating them a snap. The party planning information is so helpful to figure out how much to make for how many people and the sample occasion menus are much more inventive than I would come up with on my own.

Thanks Jr. Service League of LaGrange, Georgia for such a wonderful book! It's so nice to find great recipes that use ingredients I have in the pantry!

I've had my copy for several years. It has been used time and time again. I've not tried a bad recipe yet. My children enjoy the food, especially the poppy seed chicken. Another favorite is the plantation rice. There are too many fabulous recipes to list them all. Get your own copy, you will NOT be sorry.

I have seen the show twice as well as read this book. The book is well written and logically organized for anyone to do the space show. Added benefit are the listing of web sites and illustrations that help make the show that much better. Any kid as well as any adult will find the show informative and fun. I cannot describe the children's excitement and fun during the show. Parents come up to Mrs. Hart after the show telling her how spellbound their children were during the show. This is no BS! The way scientific fact and theorem were presented in the show will really make your kid want to learn and have fun doing it..

I was a student of Mrs. Bojtos's on Guam. This show blew my mind. I may have just been young, but it was the most amazing thing I had ever seen. There were so many magic tricks and science experiments... It kept my interest because I never knew what was going to happen next. And the space shuttle was awesome.

I recommend to anyone who teaches science, math, or theatre to get this book. If you want to capture young minds, this is the way to go. It worked on me. I never got below a 90 in any science class after having Mrs. Bojtos.
