This book is wonderful for toddlers. It teaches them to follow instructions while having fun with their Sesame Street fans. My daughter is 16 months old and knows the book by heart. I would recommend every family have this book in their childs library.

My son got this as a favor at a birthday party when he was one. He loves this book and wants us to read it to him over and over. Now, when we say "Elmo says touch your nose!" He will do it! The best one is when "Elmo says do a shimmy shake"! You have to see it. I just wish it was a board book instead of pages, since he has ripped out several pages and now I need a new copy.

Rather than loading a cookbook with all kinds of recipes Tampa's Junior League puts only the best in their cookbook. It is not a large book, but all of the recipes are a "sure thing". If you like this book, you must also try "Life of the Party", the Tampa Junior League's cookbook before this one, it is all about entertaining & great. Both cookbooks offer helpful hints & are easy to understand!

I purchased a copy of Everyday Feasts after sampling the Florida Orange Cookies...a light and fluffy cookie that I now make doubling the icing. They are delicious...even my 7 year old niece agrees.

Personally I have tried a few recipes from the book and find myself baking the Double Apple Muffins on a regular basis. They have a great 'crumble' topping making it a Sunday morning treat!

Great for Busy Moms!

Though I'm not terribly skilled in the kitchen and don't have much time for cooking with two young children, this book has recipes even I can handle. There are several wraps recipes that are perfect for family events or bunco groups-I especially like the Cuban wraps. The pasta primavera with salmon was a hit with my family. Be sure to try the fresh carrot salad, which is easy to make and looks elegant.

Great Methods of Teaching English Text.
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2004-04-27
I used and read this book as part of a class I had on the methods of teaching English. I've read a lot of textbooks in my post-high school educational experience and usually they are pretty dry, dull, and boring. Not so with this book. Perhaps it was because the subject matter is so closely related to what I am currently pursuing as a career (an English teacher) or perhaps it's because the book was written by a couple of English teachers so they knew all the textbook pitfalls to avoid. I don't know. Whatever the case, this is one of a very few textbooks that I have read completely through that really didn't bore me. There are hundreds of useful tips and ideas and stories about actual teacher's experiences. The book is grounded in theory and research, but once again, unlike other textbooks I have read, it doesn't seem like that. The book seems more grounded in actual practice than it does theory. The book talks about such things as a brief history of teaching English, how to create an integrated curriculum, what's needed to create a unit plan, fostering classroom community, young adult literature, using writing in the class, how to incorporate theatre and mass media into the classroom environment, and assessment. My only complaints about the book is that it discusses assessment last (assessment should be discussed much earlier) and the book doesn't talk very much about classroom management. Overall, I think this is a great book for anyone who is thinking about teaching English or is preparing to student teach in a high school English classroom.

This is a truly fantastic book--loads of practical ideas, grounded in just enough reader response and social construction theory to provide important context and rationales for activities. I am using the new edition in my methods courses for future English teachers, and it's even better than the previous edition I'd used in years past (something I didn't think was possible!), with updated literary references, activities using technology, and a new section on classroom talk. Extensive sections on teaching literature and writing, along with chapters on drama, assessment, unit planning, etc. make it an ideal text for a methods course as well as an excellent resource for experienced teachers who are looking for better ways to engage their students with English studies. Student response has been overwhelmingly positive, both during the classes and when they refer back to it once they're teaching. Highly recommended.

EXCELLENT! I can't say enough.

Excellent. I can't say enough about this text. Tons ofpractical ideas that will doubtlessly help me a great deal when Iteach my own class for the first time. The entire book is based in reader response theories and cultural theories of reading and writing, and there are entire chapters on such practical ideas of using drama, film, and more in classrooms.

I was fortunate enough to take my student teaching seminar with one of the authors of this book (Dr. Karen Bosch). Although she is terrific in and of herself, her co-authored book is outstanding. From the first on campus interview with human resources personnel to my first day of teaching, this book had it all. There are chapters to guide you through each step of the process to becoming the first year teacher that we all dream and hope to be. It's written from the perspective of the teacher him/herself. Each thought shared by other first year teachers were echoed through myself during those first few days of teaching. I recommend this book to everyone who is about to embark upon their teaching career and those who are returning to the career after an extended absense. It has been my guide book through everything.

First published in the 1920s and still popular, The Flight of the Heron is a romantic adventure of the Jacobite uprising in 1745. A tall red-headed hero, strong friendships, an attractive heroine, and lots of fight and flight in the heather - what more could you ask? Other titles in the trilogy are The Dark Mile and The Gleam in the North.

Flight of the Heron is a great book. It is a brillant example of true friendship and love, and it has adventure. The two main characters are supposed to be enemies; however, they end up having a very strong friendship in the end, which actually brought tears to my eyes. Also, the love that is between the Scottish heroine and his leading lady is sweet and endearing. Reading this book is wonderful and enchanting for the reader! I highly recommend it for those of you who enjoy friendship, romance, and adventure.

This is the second CD I've heard from the talented team of Winters, Wilder and Wilder. Once again, I'm left very impressed by their thoughtful insights, keen strategies, and practical teaching methods. Junior golfers (not to mention kids in other sports or walks of life) can improve their confidence and self-esteem greatly from hearing the messages in this CD. Additionally, parents, teachers, and coaches can help reinforce the lessons by practicing the recommended drills. The authors have hit on a key area of development for all people to realize their true potential. And this CD should enable all listeners to get there.

What a fun, and informative CD! Now, I understand the importance of golf-psychology, golf-confidence, and golf-esteem for young golfers. Winters and Wilder are sport psychologists who teach athletes how to play golf with confidence, and how to have a present-oriented mindset on the course. Dr. Wilder's sister, Karen Wilder, is an LPGA Instructor who offers simple and fun drills that junior golfers can practice to improve their golf mechanics. This CD is an impressive presentation of the mental and physical aspects of golf.

What a great set of ideas!

I listened to this CD myself and found that it had so many great ideas for how to improve my "mental" game. I have already started to make improvements in my scores. I have even revealed to some of my golf buddies the source of my new found inner game. I highly recommend this CD for any age. I have even found myself using some of the ideas to bolster my confidence in other areas of my life. I can't wait for more from this dynamic team.

My grandfather had recently passed away and my younger cousin was very close to him. I never thought I would find such an excellent children's book on the important and loving relationships between Asian American grandparents and their grandchildren. Additionally, the storyline is simply and beautifully written, and the animation is of high quality.

I consider this a rare and priceless treasure that I hope will get passed on in generations to come.

The delicate relationship between the child and her grandfather is beautifully developed by the author, and the message that our differences -- age, language, etc. -- matter less than what we share is conveyed with subtlety. The glossary of Chinese words gives added insight into a different culture. The illustrations are good, though not as outstanding as the text. A real charmer!

I remember this book from my childhood. I had my parents read each story to me over and over. When I learned how to read I read this book until the pages fell out. In short it is a great book that encourages youthful imaginations. And, it makes for great bedtime stories. A real classic. I bought it for my children.

As a child I didn't have the books of Oscar Wilde but rather the records. My imagination soared with his descriptions of life, and my eyes overflowed with tears at each story. The record of the Happy Prince was read by Bing Crosby and Orson Wells and each year at Christmas we still play that old scratched thing, just to hear it's wonderous love story and that of The Selfish Giant. Now I have to get the book so my nieces and nephews will share in my treasures of love!!!! What is this world if it isn't all about Love?

There is always some salvation
Helpful Votes: 9 out of 11 total.
Review Date: 2003-05-22
In these tales, most of them being sad and even very sad, Oscar Wilde looks for a way to save one's soul in front of the misery of the world. Anyone in society who lives in the upper classes does not necessarily see the ugliness and suffering of the world when one looks at the lower classes. But in these tales the Happy Prince, or the Selfish Giant, or any other character will manage to get salvation out of their upper class blindness, by opening their eyes to misery and suffering and by doing what they can to repair these pains and evils because they will realise they have to feel responsible for the world, because they are more powerful and could easily impose their selfish rule. But the giant will discover nature, if not God, punishes him for his selfishness. The nightingale will try to redeem a young student by giving him a red rose in a season when read roses do not bloom. And yet the student will not get the love he wants because he is nothing but a non-entity for the girl he would like to be loved by. There is also a very sad note in A Devoted Friend and how friendship can become a mask for selfishness, a nice appearance for an ugly and egoistic attitude. Those tales are sad and at the same time they convey a moral full of hope. All is not lost if the Happy Prince can give away his happiness for those who suffer, even if later the powerful of his society will reject him when he does not look happy and beautiful any more

This book was certainly an exelent book. Other than most of the stories already being in other Albert Payson Terhune books, all of the stories (the one with the fox wasn't THAT good but it was good) were exelent and even one sotry about Wolf was in there and it wasn't in the actual book "Wolf". Even though every single one of Albert Payson Terhune's dog books were good and terrific and I'm not saying any of them aren't good, but this was the only one of his books that I couldn't put down along with Further Advemtures of Lad. It was a pretty short book which was sad because I got done with it so fast. I recommend this book because it was good and if you can't get any other Terhune book, this gives a tast of a few of his books.

This is one of the best books I have ever read. It is by that immortal writer of collie and dog books, Albert P. Terhune. It is a collection of collie stories, some about his own dogs, including the famous Lad, and some about fictional dogs. Several of the stories made me cry, and several made me laugh. This is a wonderful book for anyone who loves dogs, or just anyone who wants to read some good stories.

A book that never should have gone out of print!

"The Heart of a Dog" is Terhune at his best...You get to meet many of the residents of Sunnybank Farm and you will laugh, cry, and be spiritually uplifted in the process! The collection of short stories contains lessons for life that will remain long after you've put the book down. This is a book to be passed on to as many who will read it!!

Home-School Relations is an excellent user friendly textbook, both student friendly and instructor friendly. The text is easy to read and includes extensive current information regarding the various issues surrounding home-school partnerships. Each chapter includes several reflection exercises that are applicable for large groups, small groups, and/or individuals. At the end of each chapter, multiple resources can be found for the instructor and/or students. These include "Recommended Activities" (to extend learning), books, articles, videos, organizations, and websites. I highly recommend this textbook for undergraduate and graduate courses.
