This is a terrific source for really good Southern recipes. Surprisingly it is also features a fantastic collection of Game recipes, several of which I have had great luck with.
There are five recipes for barbecue sauce, all very good. The angel buiscuts are delicious. Shrimp Creole, Fried Chicken with cream gravy, Red Beans and Rice and spicy seafood gumbo are all excellent recipes. For desert you can't beat Mama's pralines or the pecan torte. And, don't forget to try the Mint Juleps.

I have found that 99% of the material in this wonderful group of southern receipes are absolutely delicious. Worth the slight effort, over and over again.

A wonderful representation of family style southern cooking.

This book is very helpful. It teaches how to get the best result in standardized tests. It is especially valuable for those students who are lack of test taking experience. My child got better scores after applying the techniques, such as choice eliminations.

This book is not challenging enough for my third grader though. I let my child use Beestar (a nice Houston community web site www.beestar.org) for additional weekly practice and compare his scores with the competitive peers. His test taking skills learned from this book has been very useful.

this is a great series of books--i bought 4th and 5th grades also--i'm a guidance counselor in an intermediate school-i used the tips and techniques from these books with individual classes-in kid-involved sessionsd-to help prepare them for standardized testing---many kids said they remembered what we had done. i just wish there were more tips and fewer practice tests--there are zillions of practice tests around the globe--but actually having tips, techniques, strategies--i.e., knowing how to BEAT standardized tests---is much needed! a knowledge-base is, of course, essential. but how many of us have ever taken a standardized test in which we can say that we knew MOST of the information right off the bat?--that is where educational guessing, process of elimination, the "stay with your first response" idea, etc. come in...

All of the Dave Ramsey childrens books are wonderful, teaching children about saving, spending responsibly and giving, and presented in an enjoyable and easy to read format. Of all the books in the series, this one is my 7-yr old son's favorite. Soon after reading it the first time, he was eager to start earning his own money for an item he has had his eye on. All of the books have been re-read several times through.

The Survival Kit for the Elementary School Principal is full of practical advice, common sense solutions, and scores of forms and letters that are of instant use to the busy practitioner.

The resources included are true "time savers" and reflect the seasoned and reasoned practice of a wise, politically astute elementary principal. Tips and techniques for creating a school vision and building and sustaining morale-- all-the-while developing a positive school culture are offered.

The accompanying CD is a true bonus. I simply inserted the CD, downloaded the included Acrobat Reader, and voila, I had within my reach, ready for adaptation, many useful, relevant, and well-written forms, checklists, and letters.

This has been a required book in my graduate course in elementary school leadership for the past two years. I think that it gives a well-developed background in the major issues of the principalship and practical tips for the beginning principal. Students who have completed the course and gone on to leadership positions feel that this was a very practical guide that helped them in their work. As a bonus, students within the class felt that inclusion of this book added relevance to their academic study. It is clear that Bergman has written a very practitioner oriented text. I plan to continue using this book as long as it is available.

Administrators who are revising and restructuring their schools will have a format to build on in areas ranging from technology and internet use policy to long-range planning.

I am in my second year as a 2nd grade teacher and this book is really helpful. It has a lot of information and ideas I would have never thought of on my own. I am alternatively certified so it has information I've not read. I have it on my Kindle, and it is formatted with out issues. I like it because I always have it with me, it is easy to either look something up in table of contents or through the search feature on the Kindle. I use it much more often on my kindle than I do other resources I have in paper edition, because I always know where I put it. Worth the price.

I really liked this book! It's full of information you don't find in other publications. You can't get this kind of advice in college. I especially liked the sample lesson plan, orientation night letter, and trip letter. Konior makes comments on such things as how to get along with other teachers, administrators, and parents. Her advice and personal stories on discipline were very interesting. This book is a great addition to any new teacher's library.

Writers who "tell it like it is" are in short supply nowadays. J. Konior writes about her experiences in the trenches and generously shares her hard-won skills with new elementary school teachers. Her easy-to-use manual allows readers to jump in at any section, extract what they need, and apply Ms. Konior's suggestions the very next day in the classroom. Highly recommended!

Most teacher books give you a lot of reproducibles and some information on how to conduct yourself as a teacher. This book covers all of the necessary subjects like classroom organization, discipline in the classroom, communication with parents, students & other teachers, grading and testing papers, lesson planning, etc. After reading this book, I will feel more comfortable in the classroom if I decide to start my career by substitute teaching. The author's personal experiences are wonderful because they give suggested ways to handle problems.

Douglas-a cute little dog-is in search of his dreams, literally; he can't find them. He travels high and low, querying giraffes in the trees and fish in the sea. "Do you dream he asks?" But he discovers that acting out others' dreams doesn't help him. This book was chosen for publication by the Junior League of Houston as part of a charitable venture, and like this book, Douglas learns to find his own place, his own unique dreams

The perfect gift for the 3-7 year old child in your life
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2002-12-05
Sweet Dreams Douglas is a wonderful children's book about a dog-child named Douglas who doesn't want to go to bed and doesn't think he knows how to dream. Perfectly suited for ages 3-7, Sweet Dreams Douglas bridges the tender gap between the fun of wide awake play and the joy of deep asleep dreams. Children who fear bedtime will be especially reassured and empowered by its humourous illustrations in inviting, soft yet vibrant colors, skillfully executed by author/artist Regan Dunnick.

In the story, Douglas goes on a dreamquest adventure, asking a fantastic variety of animal friends what they dream. In an effort to find his own dreaming ability, Douglas tries "on' all their dreams and finds that nothing quite fits him. Finally one of his dream companions tells him his answer - "Just dream, little one." Then he really begins to explore some dreams of his own. When Douglas wakes up, he is proud of his dreaming accomplishment, and coincidentally all the animal characters in his dream are found in toys and pets and pictures in his room around him.

The subtle soft pastel charcoal and muted greens, flesh, mustard and salmon palette are colors that encourage drowsiness, an invitation to deep creative dreaming. Sweet Dreams Douglas is deep and delightful, quiet and wise, refreshing and healing, like deep sleep.

Sweet Dreams Douglas is a reassuring, imaginative bedtime story book, bound to be beloved by children of many origins. The multitude of models in the dreamquest gives a positive message to the affirmation of cultural/racial and other differences. Sweet Dreams Douglas is the perfect gift for the 3-7 year old child in your life, especially if they are not fond of bedtime.

A Taste of Georgia is a book that deserves a place in my kitchen. I needed this book. It is a compendium of the foods that I loved in my childhood. Cookbooks are a social history of the time and place that created them , and this book reminds and teaches everyone who uses it what good Southern food is all about. If I could have one cookbook besides Joy of Cooking (which is about the only book that shows you how to string up a chicken) A Taste of Georgia would be the The One!

I've owned this book since it was published in 1977, and I've enjoyed so many of its recipes. The layout of the book and its typography make it easy to read. It includes a nice variety of recipes with suggestions on how the dishes should be served, whether or not they can be made ahead or frozen, etc. I've given the book as a gift to countless brides.

I have had this cookbook for several years, and it is the one I continue to turn to whether I need to prepare a simple meal, or plan a dinner party. The recipes are easy to follow, and do not contain ingredients that are difficult to find in my local grocery store. (I hate recipes that require me to spend half a day shopping for unusual items!) This book also has an extensive section of special features, including cake decorating ideas and kitchen charts detailing substitutions and equivalents, that has been a useful resource. Although the cookbook was originally published in the early 80's, the frequent requests I get for recipes I make from it attest to its timeless quality. Buy this book!

I have owned this cookbook since 1980 and I have yet to find another cookbook that compares! Whether you are having a social gathering or a family meal you will not be disappointed in the recipes. I own Round 2 and it does not compare to the original. I just ordered a new one after all of these years. The lasagne and carrot cake recipes are worth the price of the book. It's a must for every Augusta host or hostess, especially during the Masters. Enjoy!

If you have a little one who likes bears and you would like to throw in a little learning, this is a great book. Playful and fun, with great illustrations. As you turn the pages you count down from 10 bears to just one little bear. Each page has the corresponding number of bears written in big bold print, so you can use the book as a learning tool for numbers. With few lines to a page it makes a great book for reading aloud or bedtime.
