Skip Crayton pulls you into the world of Sandra Mercer and makes you laugh, cry, and appreciate that love exists. Forget Nicholas Sparks, Skip Crayton is the author from New Bern, NC, to look out for.

I read this book in two days, and it was most enjoyable. It was wonderfully written, bringing both Eastern North Carolina and a romantic love story together. You will be delighted when you read it, though be prepared to not be able to put it down.

This is such a beautiful love story. But more than that, it gives hope--hope that even in the middle of personal trials, love heals.

Hi, I have NOT read this book, as it is "out of stock" currently...but I have taken this course, and others, from Margaret Fisher at various knitting conferences and she is TERRIFIC! She knows all the techniques and tricks to help a knitter get to the next level, and she is also a great, and patient, teacher. I am sure her book is just as informative and as helpful as she is in person. Whatever your current level of expertise is, I am confident this book will get you to the next with minimal stress!!

As soon as it's available again I plan to buy it for myself, and as a gift for some of my knitter friends who have not been lucky enough to take one of Margaret's classes.

A must have for all knitters.

I recommend this book without reservations. The patterns are simple and flattering for most body types, and they are not difficult. I love the fact that the author suggested that there is really no wrong cast on edge, and proceeded to show that either edge can be used depending on the pattern stitch for the body of the sweater. This is refreshing. Ever since I've been knitting, I've always been told that the smooth side of the cast on should always be on the public side. She also shares numerous other tips to make our sweaters as professional looking as possible. This book is accessible by all levels of knitters. The photography also assists in making her points come across clearly. Get it while it's still in print.

Many "help" books repeat each other, but I can honestly say this one has some tips I've never seen before and the pictures are excellent. This is a good addition to my knitting library & I highly recommend it.

This is so nice, since the sizes go up to 10 years old. I was getting very frustrated trying to knit for my toddler with books that only went up to 9-12 months in instruction. There are cute blanket patterns, too.

a great knitting book for all levels!

I purchased this book based on the cover photo alone. I was not disappointed. As a brand-new knitter and mother of 2 I look for books with patterns that my children would not be embarassed to be seen in, this does not disappoint. The amount of jackets for boys and girls alone makes it worth the investment. From there you are further inspired by the beautiful cardigans and pullovers. Simply another beautiful children's pattern book!
Happy knitting!!!

Great source of cute patterns.

I think this book offers some great ideas and patterns for classic garments.

Some of the items I'd love to make or adapt (see the uploaded images)...

Classic aran-style and also plaid sweaters.
Knitted raglan joins and ribbing on a crocheted sweater.
Beads and mohair in a feminine retro style.

Cute retro baby blanket and sweater.
Two glittery yarns make an interesting cardigan and scarf for evening.
Filet crochet beach coverup. (How about sparkly yarn for evening?)

Bobbles and stripes pullover with knitted ribbing.
Interesting stitch pattern shawl collar cardigan.
Knitted ribbing on a nice basic striped crocheted cardigan.

Nice men's sweater with diagonal detailed stitch pattern.
Basic two-rectangle top with one back seam and knitted ribbing.
Bobbles and stripes classic vest.
Adorable filet thread blouse with cap sleeves.

These come in standard sizing, meaning no plus sizes for ladies. But some of the techniques are easily translated to your own projects, such as the nice plaids or using knitted ribbing on your crocheted items. There are many little techniques which make this a valuable addition to my library.

Regarding some other reviews, I happen to appreciate the knitted ribbing shown on SOME of the items (some others are crocheted ribbing), since I just learned to knit and crochet. If a knitted ribbing gives me a great finish, why shouldn't I use it if I can do it?

Knitters have been crocheting their edges for years. Nobody seems to complain about that in a knitting book. Since both techniques (crocheted or knitted ribbing) are detailed within various patterns in this book, one should simply use whichever one most feels comfortable doing. That's what I plan to do. And I'll adapting crochet to knitted ribbing more often too.

I'll be keeping this title for a long time.

A knitting book to treasure

This book contains one of the first sweaters that I ever knitted. I love animals and the patterns in this book are amazing both in terms of their realism and the easy way that they have been transformed into patterns. There are patterns for all the members of the family - including the kids. The best part is that each pattern has a full-colour illustration of what the finished sweater will look like. I have made several of the sweaters and the instructions have been easy to follow, and the graphs are well laid out.

There are fuzzy knits, and scary knits to enjoy in this great book. While some of the techniques in this book require a certain level of skill as a knitter, a beginner could quite easily make some of these projects just by following the instructions and the advice. You will not regret purchasing this item.

This book is a great source for knitters. Knitting from the top down provides the knitter with a great tool -- the ability to try the sweater on as you go. I replace the circular needle with a piece of yarn when I reach the expected place for the armhole. If it fits, I go on. If not, I add or subtract to suit the wearer.

You can use the patterns in this book for cardigans and for pull-overs. Just skip the opening! The book also provides directions for aran and DK weights, and basic sweaters and a multitude of different necklines, sleeves, collars, etc. One can choose a V-neck, with a big collar, a crew neck, a collar with loops and you can create your own. The important part is the shaping of the increases to create the sleeves and body. There are no seams and no problems.

The Top Down for Toddlers is a great addition for the little ones also.

I have made several sweaters from the patterns in this book and when I had an idea, but couldn't come up with how to do it, I emailed Deb Gemmell and got a quick and very helpful response. I think if you try it you'll like it.

A Must-Add to Your Knitting Library!

First off, I'll admit to significant bias, as I am a huge Starmore fan. That aside, this pattern book is one of the Starmore team's best, and is a worthy addition to a knitting library (even one, like mine, already stocked with every Debbie Bliss book). I won't begin to confess how many projects' worth of yarn I have stockpiled already, and yet it was all I could do not to run out TODAY and acquire more for several projects in this book. Some knitters will recognize a few previously published patterns for grown-ups, resized for children highly successfully (Sand Dollar from the now out-of-print Pacific Coast Highway, for example, finally makes sense as a young girl's sweater dress). Others are wholly new and as exquisite as anything we've ever seen from these designers. (Secret Garden is next on my "yarn to buy" list.) As a mother of two boys and aunt of two nieces, I also was pleased to see a nice balance between feminine, masculine and unisex patterns. All in all, a fabulous treat for knitters with children anywhere in their life!

Splendid knitting designs for children

As a mother of two daughters and a passionate knitter, I am very glad I bought this book. There are splendid designs for boys, for girls and some which are wearable for both. The knitting instructions are easy to understand, though average knitting experience is needed. Some difficult techniques are explained, f.e. the "vertical double decrease". I think it's particular good to have four sizes with each design, so you can knit the same design for two different-aged children. Each design is photographed in detail, not only to make a beautiful picture but to give the knitter an impression of what's awaiting him. What seems to be a bit of a problem if you want exactly the same knitting as in the book is that they have used Alice Starmore yarns only. Nevertheless an inspiring book! If you want to knit something special for your child, buy this book.

Pattern Knitters' Heaven!

The sweater patterns in this book are divided by type of knitting; Shetland lace, 'fisherman' (Aran) patterns, and Fairisle (complex color patterns). This is an older book, so patterns are presented 'row-by-row' (K2, inc 1, P2, etc) rather than in graphs. Clear color photos show the detail of each sweater and the instructions are well presented. I've referred to this book over and over; it's a constant source of inspiration.

original colourful designs for experienced intarsia knitters.i have knitted all the designs in this book in the stated yarns.most of the medium sized kids designs took 3-5days.the adult star and bobbles took me just under 14 days, as a lot of ends needed sewing in.not a book to buy unless you are able to knit with lots of different balls of wool on each row of knitting.brilliant for bright knitted kids wear.
