I LOVE LOVE LOVE Ethel Pochocki. This book is one of my favorites, but anything this gifted and tender author writes is bound to be wonderful. (No, I'm not a relative of hers!) I assumed when I first "met" her that her stories were mainly for children; it was awhile before I saw that the themes she uses are universal, and any age reader will find something to mull over. Get ready for a warm glow.

I'm so glad to see this book still in print! This was a favorite "Bedtime Storytime" book in our public library when it first came out...and the story bears out that love is stronger than adversity, longer-lasting than physical beauty, and, in the end, the rewards of love far outweigh vanity and pride. A sweet and funny book for all ages, especially for those with a favorite pair of pajamas that are put on the clothesline to dry!

I am delighted that this book is back in print! It is an engaging story illustrated with gorgeous watercolors. Rosebud is a rather refined nightgown, and is not impressed at first with Red Flannel, the pair of long johns that adores her. How her opinion of him changes and her respect for him grows is a story that parallels many a human love. Their deep commitment to each other is a lesson in lasting love. This book would be a lovely wedding present.

If you're into sewing your own lingerie, this is a great book to have in your own personal reference library. There are great tips on how to sew lingerie fabrics and what sewing techniques work best when constructing lingerie. Info is given on where to purchase patterns and supplies. It's the most comprehensive resource section I've seen on lingerie supplies yet!

I really like this book for the info on altering patterns and there are instructions for how to make your own patterns for a panty, slip and camisole. The techniques covered in this book include seams, edges, elastic and straps. I agree with one of the reviewers who stated that for those new to sewing, the instructions are a bit difficult to understand. I think that the "Singer Sewing Lingerie" (1991) book does a much better job of explaining lingerie sewing techniques. [The pictures are better too]

Yes, this book does cover bra construction. It's excellent! So, if you want to try making your own bras, this book will definitely help. You'll need to purchase items from lingerie suppliers if you can't find them in your local fabric shop though.

However, my one gripe about this book is that it just covers basic, rather boring lingerie items. But, this book is just to get you started with sewing lingerie. Once you've gotten the basics down, then you can move on to the more seductive items. However, I've yet to find a book on how to sew the more titilating types of lingerie. Hope one will come on the market soon!

Overall, I highly recommend this book. The ideas on embellishment, dying, beading and other finishing touches is terrific! I got really good ideas from it and have been able to buy inexpensive lingerie and really bump up the look, the sexiness factor of simple garments!

I bought this book hoping to learn how to make my own lingerie so I could stop paying out the nose for tiny bits of fabric and cheap lace. While this book features a lot of very useful information on fabrics and sewing techniques, I have been disappointed by the selection of styles included. If you are wanting to make "granny panties" and camisoles, this is a good book. If you're looking for patterns for something more sexy, though, they're certainly not here. If you are an experienced seamstress you can make your own modifications to achieve a sexier look, but I don't recommend this to beginners. I must say, though, that there is a very good section on making your own bras that is highly recommended.

Beginners may find some of the instructions difficult to follow. I don't know where to find some of those lovely parts to make bras with--that's something I've long wanted to do, and previous attemps to make really good bras failed. I have taken their advice and used patterns and my own ideas for lingerie, but one day I want to draft my own French panty pattern. It takes a little measuring and drawing, but once you make your template I'm sure it works fine. I have used one of the Vogue shirt patterns they list for a pajama shirt (eliminating the cuffs on the sleeves), got another pattern for the bottoms, cut up an old sheet and trimmed the PJ's with a little lace. Looks great, and wasn't that difficult.

I have owned this book for several years and refer to it often. It's probably best for sewers with some experience. I have tried most of the techniques and they all work well. If you're serious about sewing lingerie, you will enjoy this book, read it through, and refer to it again and again. There are instructions for drafting a few basic patterns and options suggested for changing the basic designs. There are also directions for copying your favorite ready-to-wear intimates. The section on making bras, which is the reason I bought it in the first place, is quite good. One reviewer said she didn't know where to buy bra-making supplies, guess she didn't see the resource guide in the back of the book. Another reviewer said the patterns weren't "sexy", but the text gives lots of suggestions for changing the designs to suit one's personal taste. (Anyhow, this is a technique book, not a pattern book.) So, buy the book. It's worth every penny if you really like to sew and want to make some lovely things for yourself!

I checked this book out from the library, read it cover to cover and have decided that I must own this book, as I believe it will be a great reference tool for me. I like to sew my own clothes, and love the idea of making my own camisoles to wear instead of buying them (I am a hard fit).

I will say that you do need to understand how to sew. Another reviewer said the book was not clear--but I found it to be otherwise. I thought it was very well written, but I have been sewing for years.

This book has dreadful illustrations. The instructions are vague and very limited. It's a perfectly useless book, even for a beginner. Don't waste your money on this worthless book.

perfect to complete you cutting skills. a specific book on a matter which is usually superficially examined in pattern making classes.

I'll give it 3 stars, because I got a lot of ideas in this book which actually inspired me. The fact that the patterns doesn't work for me hasn't stopped me from learning a lot from it.

I have followed two pattern design courses and am designing my own clothes which fit pretty well. I bought this book because I also wanted to be able to design a bra, which wasn't included in my courses. Unfortunately the bra block givin in this book doesn't consider the underbust measurement - only the bust measurement itself. The cupsize of a bra is determined by subtracting the underbust measurement from the bust measurement and the support of a bra comes from the snug underbust fit. For that reason I couldn't get the bra pattern to fit me (cup turned out too small, while band too big around body) and I am busy to figure it out myself by adjusting the lower dart to fit my underbust measurement while making a bigger curve towards the bustpoint.

Still the back cover of the book claims that all the patterns has been tested and therefore works. I suppose it could work for someone with a much smaller cupsize (the bust line not much bigger than the underbust).

Also, according to the author's instructions to the bodice block, all women's bust points are at the same height. (half of the nape of neck to waist measurement plus 4 cm's toward the waist). That simply isn't true, so I'm using my own bodice block where you have to measure your (individual) height of your bust point and mark it on the pattern accordingly.

I was very excited when the book arrived in the mail and started working immediately. Unfortunately I was quite dissapointed soon afterwards.
