A Wonderful Classic Children's Book

A wonderful book about a bull who doesn't enjoy fighting or aspire to go to the bullfights in Madrid. Instead he is at peace with sitting in peace and sniffing the flowers. Without giving too much away, this essentially saves his life after a series of misunderstandings occur.
Its a wonderful lesson for children to stay true to themselves, with a comforting addition that their mother (or parent) will always love them.

Sweet story

I have this story as part of a compilation of children's stories. There is a reason this is a classic- it's sweet. It encourages children to be who they truly are. If you have a quiet, shy child this is a perfect book.

One of the best books ever.

I encountered "Ferdinand" as a child. I was fascinated by the illustrations, which took me to a far-away place and stimulated my imagination. But I was most impressed by the message of the story -- an encouragement to remain true to my own nature. That's a great lesson for kids, who are so vulnerable to pressure from peers and our culture. I am thankful that my parents provided this book. I have read and given copies of it to my kids and grandkids, and read the story in school to my grand-daughter's class. The Story of Ferdinand (Puffin Storytime)

I am 44 years old and yesterday, at our Thanksgiving celebration at a relative's home, I came to read this wonderful book for the first time. I was so touched by it, really all choked up as I read about Ferdinand. I just couldn't hold back my tears. I will be reading this book to my 71 children, at the public school where I run an After School Program. This is a marvelous book and I recommed it to parents, teachers, educators and anyone else interested in planting seeds of peace into the hearts of others, specially children. I am Ferdinand, and I am happy. I also fell in love with his mother... what a loving, sweet cow....

This is not a review, others have done that excellently, it is a memory. When i was eight, Ferdinand was my favourite. Thirty eight years later and unremembered until finding it just now, the flashback was so intense i could hardly finish reading the Amazon review through tears of nostalgia. I smelled the flowers and felt that simple happiness that Ferdinand radiated all over again. If you want your child to enjoy a great yarn, be engaged by intense illustrations, learn to be peaceable and stay true to themselves, and have a powerful remembrance of a book later in life, get them "The Story of Ferdinand".

I am a pharmacist and carry this book with me everywhere. It is small enough to fit in my purse and it can answer questions on dosing, indications, and much more. It is definitely a lot faster to use than the slow computers at the pharmacy!

I use this pocket guide more often than I use my palm pilot for drug doses. My lab coat is not complete without this book. Even when I am on call, I make sure I have one of my multiple copies at bedside so I can look up meds in the middle of the night. Also, I am a preceptor for PA students, and I recommend each and every one of them purchase some version of this guide (and most of them do).

Most med students/residents need more information than this provides

It's great IF the ONLY info you need is dosing information. If you need more information like SIDE EFFECTS, METHOD OF ACTION, etc, 'Clinician's Pocket Drug Reference' from Scut Monkey is far more useful/helpful. At least it was (and is) to me during med school and now in residency.

Excellent - Keep in pocket Reference

A fast, keep in your shirt pocket reference for drug name, dosing, available dosing sizes, route of clearance and safety in pregnancy or lactation. It is tiny - a centimeter thick and shirt pocket dimensioned. Really great when a patient comes in with some oddball psych med, is found to be pregnant or you get a braincramp somewhere around your thirtieth patient of the day. I use this little gem regularly.

Funny, crazily written with humor but makes more sense than many so called straight-laced books. With this book taken seriously, we can go anywhere without fear and win people to God.

I was just posting a link to this book onto my blog when I noticed the editorial review from Publishers Weekly totally panned it. What a joke! This book came highly recommended to me and I loved it. I almost didn't get to finish because my wife heard me laughing so often, she started reading it and every time I set it down, she'd grab it.

If your spiritual life isn't everything you think it should be, pick up this book and be ready to learn and to laugh. It's definitely no panacea (nothing is) but it certainly points the way to, what may be for you, a new way of looking at the living of your life. I HIGHLY recommend this book to you!

Get ready for the ride of your life! I Became a Christian and All I Got was This Lousy T-Shirt exposes the pretentious, complacent, stale and often boring, `souvenir' religion that many of us have experienced and helps you prepare for an adventure that will last a lifetime. Vince Antonucci shares stimulating personal stories that range from heart-wrenching to hilarious to just plain bizarre. This book will help transform your life into the one that Jesus intended you to live. So, climb aboard, strap yourself in, and hold on!

Picked up this book while looking for things to get my son interested in reading. LOVE IT! He giggled and chuckled all the way through, while I had him break down the poems to make sure he was comprehending them. I am buying this book and Julianne Moore's Freckleface Strawberry for the teacher to have in her classroom. This book is great for all the little boys (or girls) in your life. The writing may not be Pulitzer, it totally gets them into reading for enjoyment (and is not bad to have to listen to!).

If you're expecting to read the "typical" Foxworthy book you're going to be disappointed with "Dirt on my Shirt." Instead, you'll discover that his genius is considerably greater and more extensive than you might have thought, based solely upon his "Redneck" books. I recently bought this book for my four-year-old granddaughter and it quickly has become one of her favorites! Buy this book for your children or grandchildren--you won't be disappointed! I heartily recommend it! Michael Garee

My husband, son, and I enjoy Max and Ruby stories. When we read the first page of this story, when Ruby comments that Max's pants are "disgusting", all of us laughed. We were hooked.

Rosemary Wells has done a great job with giving her characters such distinct voices without using a lot of text or explanation. This is a short, light-hearted read as are Wells' other Max and Ruby stories.

The Aloha Shirt: Spirit of the Islands is unique, as a historical and artistic book documenting the Aloha shirt, from its historic beginnings as a cottage industry, to the multi-billion dollar industry it is today. This definitive text has been extensively researched, with textile artists, designers, garment manufacturers and their families and friends all contributing to the consistency of the history as researched by Dale Hope. An educational and artistic book bringing over 500 aloha shirts with their Hawaiian inspired origins paralleled with the history and times of Hawaii. For those who have memories of Hawaii, and for those who share their memories to others, this elegant coffee table book is a "must have" for all!

If Hawaii or the aloha shirt has ever gladdened your heart, you'll want to own THE ALOHA SHIRT. Dale Hope conveys the TRUE SPIRIT (colorful, soft, peaceful, flowing) of the Hawaiian Islands by presenting both the fascinating history of the aloha shirt and 500 or so beautiful illustrations. These illustrations are so varied and exquisite that you'll get high just by perusing them. They also help you see how the aloha shirt can be an art form in and of itself. Hopefully, this book will inspire people to wear their aloha shirts more often -- not just when they visit Hawaii -- and to buy the new ones that are being created by the best artist designers.

Dale Hope grew up in the Hawaiian garment industry, taking over his father's clothing business at the age of 26. As the art director of Kahala Sportswear, Hope oversees the creation and manufacturing of 150 new Aloha shirt designs annual. In The Aloha Shirt: Spirit Of The Islands, Hope collaborates with writer Gregory Tozian to offer a magnificent, coffee-table artbook dedicated to the history of the unique and famous Hawaiian shirt style. This impressive treatise covers the history of Hawaiian clothing, the evolution of the tailor shop into the modern clothing factories, the designers, textiles, printmakers, and retailers that made the Hawaiian "aloha shirt" famous around the world. There are chapters focusing on Duke Kahanamoku, celebrities, shirt makers of the 60s, labels and buttons, and aloha shirt collectors. Profusely and beautiful illustrated, the text is informative, at times fascinating, and highly recommended for students of American clothing history and fads in general, and Hawaii's contributions to the garment industry and American popular culture in particular.

I loved this book, it is helpful to my collecting and my selling. It has wonderful pictures, and I love the section on '60's makers and just the way it is arranged in general is helpful and makes for fascinating reading. The only thing I would like to see with this book is a name index; this would make it so much more helpful as a reference. I do highly recommend it though, as a reference or just as a coffee table book.

Wow, what a book!! Having been previously lightly infected by the `Aloha Shirt' bug, after having read this beautiful book, I became incurably and terminally struck down. Profusely illustrated from the collections of many well-known and extremely lucky collectors, this book has become my bedside bible. The research is also first-class, following the development of the Aloha shirt from a fun thing, to a full-blown industry. I now live and breath THE shirt. Buy this book and like me, change your life.

As an experienced screenprinter, I NEEDED this book to get me into the profitable digital printing market. It has a lot of great tips and info about t shirt printing. I think it would be great for a first timer, as it has a lot about how to start a new business in there. But the information on marketing and selling and basic digital printing was helpful for even me, who has had a business for years.

Don't waste your time reading other books. This one has all you need to know about digital apparel printing. It really is the "Bible of T-shirt Printing," as they say. It's basically all you need to know about t-shirt printing and starting your own business.

Chase Roh and David LaVita are leaders of this industry and know their stuff. They've ran three successful businesses (two of which have been sold to multi-billion dollar companies) and it shows when they talk about making your business successful. This book talks about the criteria you need to ensure your business will be successful, and the authors say it is the same criteria they used when developing their first two companies.

This is a newly developing industry so there aren't too many current and relevant books out there like this one. It is up to date and really is the go-to guide for t-shirt printing.

An easy, yet informative read!

As a prospective entrepeneur in the screenprinting business, this book made me realize my dreams can become a reality much easier than I initially imagined! Honestly, if you have any interest in making your own garments, graphic design, or starting your own business, this is a must read. Digital printing is the wave of the future, and unfortunately there are painfully few books currently available on the topic, and even fewer that cover the topic in such an informative and elloquent way. Two thumbs up to the authors; you'll be dying to start up your own printing business by the time you're through reading.

Also, kudos for promoting a printing process that is "green". With the growing trend of companies trying to run cleaner and more efficiently, this book makes itself much more relevant to even established businesses.

I got into garment decorating years ago with embroidery. More and more of my customers have wanted shirts that are embroidered AND printed. I've had to field out this work to other people, and it takes away from my profits. So I decided to get into printing myself. I had no idea where to start so I started researching. This book was the end-all, go-to book for my research. It told me everything I needed to know.

I've used these books since medical school and still go back to it when I can't find what I need on my palm pilot. It sorts drugs alphabetically and by class and even gives a relative cost estimate. It has an index and also other little tidbits, like algorithms for ACLS, conversion charts, and skin dermatomes. There is nothing that you will ever buy that will give you the same value. It is available in two sizes; I prefer the pocket sized, and I usually get one for the office and leave one in my clinical jacket. It also lists some drugs that are no longer popular, but still necessary at times, such as IV vasotec dosing.

I've been a Foxtrot reader for a long time and personally I think there is something suspiciously wrong with people who don't find Bill Amend's characters funny as all get out. If you want a good laugh, check out Bill in your local newspaper, or better yet, get one of the Foxtrot books. They are all great, really, they are.

Like many of Mr. Amend's fans I'm a bit disappointed he's switching his strip to Sunday-only, but fortunately I can still read him daily in the Foxtrot books. Get them one and all and you can keep right on a laughing.

I have been a faithful FoxTrot reader for years. Roger, Andy and their kids Peter, Paige and Jason are always good for a reality check with a large dose of laughter. I've got two girls and let me tell you, I see a lot of my kids in Paige with, I believe, even a healthy dose of Jason thrown in. And they have Peter's bottomless stomach. Of course, they're faithful FoxTrot readers too. I used to read the strip to them, explain what was going on, but now they get it just fine and we three all laugh together. Then my girls try and explain the strip to their dad, who pretends he doesn't get it.

The FoxTrot folks are a great family, one we sort of got used to checking up on every day, so we took the news that Mr. Amend was going to cease daily distribution of his wonderfully funny people and turn his strip to Sunday only, with a bit of sadness. Still, we have these terrific FoxTrot books to keep us going with our FoxTrot fix. Mr. Amend is to be commended for his great gift to our culture and his great gift to so many lives. I truly believe a laugh a day, helps keep the blues away and the FoxTrot gang are always good for a laugh. Heck there are a lot of laughs in the FoxTrot books. I know, I have them all and I am, along with my girls and my hubby dear, eagerly awaiting the next one.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention, we don't have an iguana, but my girls do have a pet gecko and, you guessed it, his name is Quincy.

"There's nothing like going into a big bookstore on a cold winter evening...finding a collection of short stories that you'd always meant to read...taking off your coat...plopping down in their café...and watching shoppers come and go as you sit back and sip on coffee. Ah, bliss."
"Mom, did you bring your credit card? They have every STAR TREK book." (Jason)
"Since calendars are half-price, can I get Niki *and* Stephanie?" (Peter)
"Fourth and one and they're *punting*?" (Roger, on headphones)
"At least this place sells T-shirts." (Paige)
"Ah, reality."
- Mrs. Fox and family, herein

All the cartoons in this collection are included - in the same order - in the omnibus FOXTROT BEYOND A DOUBT except for the single-page additions of Jason personalizing a T-shirt and the dedication page's picture of Quincy the iguana with a teddy bear. The Sunday double strips are not in colour in this book, although they are printed in colour in FOXTROT BEYOND A DOUBT.

Unless you're particularly attached to the smaller size of this book, its cute cover art, or the three single frame cartoons that were added for the dedication and endpages as described above, I recommend considering FOXTROT BEYOND A DOUBT instead, since it includes all the content of this book with the addition of colour formatting for the Sunday strips, together with content from the previous collection RETURN OF THE LONE IGUANA.

Having said that, let's move on to the content. :)

FOXTROT maintains a continuing storyline, although the kids seem to be growing up rather slowly despite the passing seasons. This particular book begins during the Fox family's summer holidays and ends the following spring.

Some of the memorable bits include:
- Paige babysits for Margaret O'Dell from her mother's book club for the first time, whose little girl is cute but whose babysitting conditions are dire. "Hi there! You must be little Katherine!" "Um, it's 'Katherine', with a 'K'." "That's what I said." "No, you said 'Catherine' with a 'C'. I could tell. Hold on - I'll be right back." "Hi, there! You must be the little girl who's going to need massive therapy in twelve years!" (Peter, much later, takes a dog-sitting job looking after a crazed little canine Nac Mac Feegle - pit bull aggression levels in a toy dog's body).
- Jason and Marcus experiment with model rockets and with the biggest kite they can manage to put together.
- The Fox family takes a family vacation to Fun-Fun Universe (not to be confused with Disney World, of course).
- Paige learns during a speech in social studies class not to listen to her dad's advice on how to control her nerves: "Yowza! It's like a Chippendales show!"
- Peter's first anniversary of dating Denise and his efforts to select a good present (genes from his mom's side, since his dad buys spatulas for Valentine's Day). He also goes through some rather trying study sessions with her while her parents aren't home.
- Jason's classmate Eileen beats his score on a math test; she suckers him into going out for ice cream with her family afterward, even though he officially doesn't like girls.
- Paige is assigned to write a ghost story in English class. After she makes Jason the victim, she gets an A plus an appointment with the school counselor.
- Paige's brother Peter passes himself off as her secret admirer as a joke.
- Jason asks for Doomathon II for Christmas, but trades it at the computer store after his mom becomes addicted to it. "Mom convinced me that I was too young to have a game like that in the house...I mean, *I* can't do my laundry."
- Roger suffers through an efficiency expert at work who complains at finding perfectly good paper clips in the trash and is then treated to lunch at the Ritz by the boss.
- The baseball team players, including Peter, shave their heads after losing a bet with the soccer team (which temporarily cheers Peter's balding father no end).

This is a great book to give to someone as a gift to introduce them to the humor of Foxtrot. It is wonderfully funny and engrossing: you will have finished it before you realize it!

I was asked to put together a t-shirt quilt in less than a month for a raffle and I was quite daunted by this challenge. I got Lauren's book and I could not have been happier with the quilt! I was able to finish it in about 1 1/2 weeks. She stressed the importance of proper planning and takes you step by step and when it came time to put it together, it was a breeze! She had lots of tips to help working with the t-shirt material and now people are lining up for me to make more. Her book is a great addition to my quilting library!

Perfect reference for making your Tshirt Memory quilt!

Lauren's book is terrific for guiding you through making a T-shirt quilt. And what better way to preserve your memories (and your closet will have more room once you have added the "T"s to your quilt).
It's a fun process - and it's very, very doable! I highly recommend this book to anyone considering making this quilt!

I just finished making my first T-shirt quilt using this book and it turned out incredible! Although I have done a bit of sewing, I realized that I needed some guidance on this project because I had never made a quilt before and because I was using T-shirt jersey which can be tricky for sewing. Based on earlier reviews of this book, I bought it and it was perfect. The author, Lauren Kingsland, literally goes step-by-step through the process and her writing is so clear that I had absolutely no problem understanding what I needed to do. She gives a lot of helpful hints and the appendices are quite helpful too. While I really appreciated the complete and clear instructions, I equally appreciated the emphasis she put on the importance of careful planning and design. Because of this emphasis on design, I ended up with a quilt that was not only technically well-constructed, but was also a "piece of art". I am proud to be able to give this quilt as a gift to my teenager. If you want to make a T-shirt quilt, this is absolutely, positively, the book to have.

I decided to make T-shirt quilts for my daughters, nieces and nephews as HS graduation gifts. I'm so glad I bought this book before I started the first quilt. It was very helpful, especially with design elements and measurements.

Great Ideas, Great Instructions, Great Quilts!

I always buy a t-shirt when I travel -- why, I'm not sure. I wear them once or twice and they end up in a stack in the corner of my closet. Now I know why I have been saving them. Lauren's instructions area clear and clever. Her illustrations and examples are fool-proof. I've selected a great sashing fabric and am on my way to a "scrapbook I can sleep under!"
