I have made a more rational arrangement of chapters.
Many sections have been completely rewritten, including the value and importance of development assessment,
the different approaches of psychologist and clinician to the method of assements,
the essential principles of developmental diagnosis,
the range of normality,
the fallacies in norms of development,
prenatal factors,
the prognosis of very low birth weigth infants,

This book is highly technical. As a parent, once I learned the terminology, it provided me with a deeper understanding of apraxia and gave me the basics to look for in a treatment program. Not every school district or speech therapist is willing to invest the time and effort to lay a foundation of solid skills. The advice on pages 125-126 about the repetitive practice required was especially helpful. It is a wonderful book that will make a difference for my son with autism who was not diagnosed with apraxia until almost age eight and cannot afford to spend years in ineffective therapy. I highly recommend the book for those who want an indepth understanding of the disorder.

This book clearly and succintly covers a complex and controversial subject in neonatal neurology. The authors are authorities on the subject. They offer much credibility on theme at hand. The book is well written and contemporary. Management strategies for neonatal seizures are useful and well presented. The illustrative examples are clear to the subject being presented. I recommend this book without reservation to anyone involved in the diagnosis and management of neonates with seizures.

I am a new mom and love to read, so I was looking for a product or book that could help me make the most of reading to my daughter. Something that could help me get my daughter more involved and engaged, so I was excited when I came across this product!

This product includes a ton of great materials that really engage my daughter. The books are colorful, the CD doesn't have songs that make you want to pull your hair out and the DVD is really cute. But for me, the best part of this product is this parents book. It gave me tips on how to read to my daughter for each stage of her development. It really showed me how to read and involve my daughter in books as she developed. Who knew there were some many different ways to read and look at the Itsy Bitsy Spider!

This is a must buy for parents who really want to get their babies engaged and interested in books...other than eating them!

I was a student in Dr. Jusczyk's class at Johns Hopkins a few years ago (fall of '98 I believe). He was a wonderful professor and taught one of the most challenging psychology courses, and he used his book (Discovery of Spoken Language) for the class. After that class, I remember seeing him on CNN discussing infants and language development, and I was just so impressed especially after having taken his class. Plus, he was so easy to approach and such a nice person. He wrote me a recommedation for a graduate program my senior year.

I was just sitting here crying when I found out that he died 2 years ago. I was just shocked. Tonight I just decided to search his name online and see if he had done any more CNN specials because every now and then I bring up his name in my graduate program when the issue of language development comes up. I always feel the urge to ask "Have you seen or read Peter Jusczyk's work?" Tonight I read that he had died unexpectedly in August of 2001.

I wrote Dr. Jusczyk an email once that said that I hope I find a career that I love as much as he loved his. You could just see how much he truly loved his work. My condolences to all of his loved ones.

This wonderful book has photos of toddlers doing all sorts of things toddlers love to do. It is a great vocabulary builder, and is the perfect book to take along on a long airplane flight. You can read it fast, or linger over every photo and discuss what's going on. My 18 month old just adores this book, and has learned a lot of games and songs and activities from it. Sometimes it helps us through a slow afternoon--we look through the activities and she points out something she would like to do, like drawing, or playing with water, or pretending to be a tiger cat.

i was looking for a book for my one year old when i came across this book.In the space of a week he had started to respond to the different scenarios in the book by laughing and giggling. My one year old has a developmental delay and i have sucessfully used this book to get him to identify words with sounds. Each and every scenario in this book is familiar to him. From babys bed time to baby hugging and kissing his sister. I recommend this book to anybody who has a baby especially one with a speech and language developmental delay as it is a great help in beginning to share information and communicate with your child.
