I love this book! It's so well put together, and the information is so easy to follow. It's a great guide for any new mother who is unsure at what age to give various foods to give babies. Encourages healthy eating at a young age too!

An incredibly helpful little book for working mothers
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2001-07-16
This little book was a lifesaver when I had my first child and wanted to continue breastfeeding after I went back to work. Basically, it is a no-nonsense, non-judgmental, how-to guide that tells you exactly what you need to use and do to pump and store breastmilk for times when you will be away from your baby. The book is not aimed only at mothers who work outside the home; it is also helpful for women who must be absent from their nursing infants for periods of time, for any reason. The author is a mother who has tried out most of what is in the book. Her information is clear, accurate and useful. She suggest products and gives contact information for manufacturers. I followed her instructions and was able to continue exclusively nursing my baby until introducing solid food at six months, in spite of a demanding full-time job. I never had to use or buy formula, for my child's entire first year of life. If you are going back to work and want to pump and store your milk for your baby, I highly recommend this book.

A History of Infant Feeding
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2002-08-10
If you ever wondered about the history of bottle feeding, here is a good text. Valerie Fildes is a nurse, a Doctor of Biology, and this book places her as a medical historian. From earliest history to the present, the ways in which babies have been fed -- and what each eras "experts" had to say -- is chronicled. This is a necessary text for anyone who works in the field of infant feeding and/or breastfeeding. Its an interesting read for anyone who is curious about infant feeding throughout history. This book is out of print, and should be reprinted in my opinion. It sells used in various venues. Worth the money.

A superb book for parents of infants and newborns.

Review Date: 2006-11-28
This is a wonderful little book for new parents, written by a highly imaginative and kind pediatrician in Maine. I wish I had a book like this when my children were born. The focus of Brilliant Babies of Maine is on playing with your infant in such a manner that play becomes learning. New suggestions are laid out for each week of the first two years of life. The ingenuity behind the suggestions will be appreciated and readily understood by parents, and carrying out the suggestions will be as enjoyable for them as for their babies and toddlers.

I received this book as a part of a gift at my baby shower for my first child. I read it constantly. It has the sweetest quotes that make you just want to melt! Now I am on child number two, and again, I enjoy reading through it. This is the perfect addition to any shower gift! It will make the mother or mother-to-be smile so much as she reads it! Daddy's like it too!

ENJOYED EVERY PAGE OF THIS ONE

Review Date: 2007-06-16
This is truly a strange little book. It is the work of 13 different authors and artists and addresses the subject of birth. How did we get here? How were we born? Each story if quite different and each artist is quite unique in their take of the subject. Some of the stories do address the subject of evolution. Some of love. Some of the stories are a bit graphic. Please refer to the review by Publishers Weekly. This is one of the few reviews they ever got correct and nailed it pretty well. I would strongly suggest that a parent read this one first before it is presented to the child. I think that most adults will find the book quite good, but am not at all sure if all children would. Parents know their children best and this is one of those times that the parent needs to do their job and do some decision making. I would have not problem reading this one to one of my children, but would hesitate reading to to someone elses child without parents approval. I do feel, for the most part that the art work was quite well done and it is sure to catch the childs eye. It is a rather fun book and as I said, I enjoyed ever page of it. Well done!
