I ordered this book when I started teaching in an infant/toddler classroom. Despite my five years of college, I had little knowledge on what these little guys could do. This book has been an AWESOME resource. I love how the lessons are separated by age groups. It provides detailed explanations as well as additional information on why and how each activity is developmentally appropriate. Of the several books I ordered, this one is most professional and designed for teachers. I highly recommend it!

I bought this for my husband because it was a small, fairly quick reading book with good information. Not that he's a bad reader, or a poor reader. I just assumed most dads aren't so much into reading about parenting. He actually read and enjoyed it! And I was glad he did :) We also have the one for mothers...another great book!

I bought this for my husband. We are new parents. I'm reading it now. It's wonderful. I learned so many great & useful tips from this little book. It is succinct & very well written; it's even humorous at times. I would recommend this book to new moms & dads.

Husband was Nervous

My husband was very nervous anticipating the arrival of our first child. A few friends had bought him some other books however he did not read one. I believe this was because each had to be at least 300 plus pages and this was intimidating. This book is an easy read but consise. I would recommend this book to anyone with a husband needing a little assurance that they will be a good dad - just need to be themselves.

Hubby loved it

My husband was a little leery of sitting through reading the "typical" baby books together. But, he really liked the approach these authors took - they pride themselves on trying to be funny, but the information is very valuable. We like the "hands-on" approach they recommend with newborns, and my husband has even marked pages for future reference, especially regarding the hospital stay and the importance of personal contact. He's already recommended this to friends, so I guess it goes without saying that "Yes, we'd recommend this to others." We're posting this review as we put their next book in our shopping cart.

Excellent for new dads (and moms too)!

I bought this book for my husband in anticipation of our first baby, and I think I'm getting as much out of it as he is! Lots of great, practical advice in short, readable chapters. It provides dads-to-be with coping strategies for everything from fussy babies to overexcited mothers and mothers-in-law, and encourages them to play an equal role in the process from day one. I found it to be very helpful in getting a glimpse of the father's possible mindset- how he might feel, react, and how to best share the joys of parenting. 5 stars!

This book has been incredibly helpful to my husband and I, we purchased it after hearing one of the nannies on a morning weekly radio show in Minneapolis. The nanny gives out advice to parents each week and we always enjoy listening to what she has to say. We have 3 kids under 5 and really value the advice of British nannies, this books encourages a routine and schedule, fresh meals and plenty of sleep for kids (and parents). Since reading the book we have introduced these things and have seen incredible changes, our kids are so much happier, they are now going to bed earlier, helping me out in the kitchen, and our bedtime routine is so much easier. Thank You nannies.

My kids are 2, 5 and 7 yrs. I actually bought this book because I saw that it had a chapter on school.

My 5 yr old had a rocky first week at school and I was really worried. I read the school chapter first and the first thing it did was it made me feel better. The book reminded me that starting school is another new experience for my son and he needs time to get used to it, which of course on one level I did know but reading it made me believe it. I started using the "Goodbye Routine" and it definately resulted in less tears than the day before. I kept doing it and things have improved. The school chapter is really helpful and I am now using their homework advice for my 7yr old and Hooray what a difference!

I had just accepted that with 3 kids weekday mornings were always going to be rushed and stressful. This book has helped me to change all that and it was not difficult to do. Now most mornings we actually all sit down to eat breakfast together and I don't have to scream at the kids to turn the TV off.

I am also using the strategies on improving communication with all my kids but especially with my two year old who likes to say no to everything I ask her to do. I didn't realize that I was inviting her to say no by giving her too many choices.

My only complaint is that Nanny Wisdom does not cover Potty Training. I am just about to start that with my 2 year old and I had a hard time with my other kids. I would like to know how the nannies do it. Also, the recipes have been so popular in our house that I wish there were even more of them in the book.

Nanny Wisdom is it is actually fun to read which is an added bonus. The book has little stories about the kids the nannies have looked after and experiences they have had in their different jobs. It makes you understand how experienced and caring these nannies are.

After reading this book I really trust their advice 100%. I always say to my husband now, The Nannies say this or The Nannies say that!!

I loved this book because it covers such a big range of parenting problems and situations and really gives parents great answers. It has helped me more than any other parenting book I own (I did like What to Expect when my kids were newborns and I do like Pocket Parent). I know it will keep on helping me as it has so much in it. I am so glad I stumbled across this book in my parenting travels!

Just finished the final chapter and although my parenting of "lovely's are now with my grandchildren, you can always learn something new. The recipe's and the "how to" approach is consistent and right on! All the advice on how to deal with a child sleeping through the night helped out my daughter immensly. The nannies are great and their knowledge is superb. I highly recommend this book to new mothers, new dads, grammies and granpies - everyone who needs "expertise" on handling all the new situations that come with the title of parent.

Written for fathers (and fathers-to-be) my wife laughed just as hard as I did as we made our way through this gem. She greatly enjoyed the behind-the-scenes look into the thought process of the new father (a few "You're totally going to be like this" comments were made), I was educated on some of the unexpected facets of parenthood, and the helpful hints at the end of each chapter are worth the price of admission. A playful and honest look at the first year.

This is an amazing book. Plain and simple.

Being first time parents, we did not foresee the lack sleep we were about to endure. This book provided such a wonderful retreat of humor and good stories about the author raising his daughter. The author goes through each week from when his wife is 35 weeks pregnant to when his daughter reaches one year old. My daughter just turned one year old and we have tried to read the book in "real time" so to speak. But, I would often get too far ahead that I would have to go back and read parts over. I cannot tell you the number of times that I've read chapters out loud when people come over. It gets everyone rolling. I even ordered a copy of the book for a good friend of mine. He is also a new father.

There are some very funny parts of the book that really help you relax and smile. My daughter was very colicky and there were times when I felt like climbing under the bed to hide and dodge the responsibility of holding a screaming baby that could not be consoled. I would read a couple chapters out loud to my wife before bed and we would both start chuckling.

At the same time, the book has a serious side as well that keeps the book grounded in reality.

This book is a must have supplement to the "bible-sized" parenting books out there.

Encore!

Ok, to be fair, I am a new father and am therefore more likely to identify with the author than someone who is not. However, I have read several excerpts from this book to friends and family and received the same outbursts of laughter from them. Even while going through the sleep-deprived early months that Roger Friedman describes, I have had a hard time putting this book down every time I start reading it.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is about to have a child, has recently had a child, is thinking about having a child, or even knows someone who recently had a child!

"Nipple Confusion" is for people who want the whole truth about having a child. Your siblings have had children, your friends have had children but very few of them actually talk about what really goes on and they might if only you knew what to ask... Read this book and you won't have to. The author's humorous, insightful, self-effacing look at the life of a newborn's father is like getting advice from a good friend who isn't afraid to share some of the more intimate details of life-after-baby. I've bought the book for a number of friends and now we call each other and laugh about our favorite parts! I highly recommend this book to supplement any parents-to-be research.

As a mom, I love Signs for Little Hands. It's not only fun to listen to (I even find myself listening to it in the car-sans children!), but it teaches you so many useful signs to help you and your baby communicate. It makes a GREAT baby shower gift! The songs are fun, and the accompanying flash cards are clear and fun to use. I also use the CD in my preschool class. The kids love the original and classic songs to sing and sign to. I recommend the CD to all my parents. Here in the Bay Area, we are lucky enough to have the singer/songwriter, Susan Z perform her songs and teach the accompanying signs to our kids each week- we are blessed to have such a talented person be part of our children's lives!

We love Susan Z's CD...my 23 month old has been listening to it for almost a year now and it's always a pleaser when we put it on. Even though he was an early talker, he still uses sign language to emphasize or clarify his point! Susan's voice is a delight to hear while singing and signing with my little guy :)

My (almost) two year old daughter loves this CD! She can't get enough of The Potty Song or I Rest My Head and asks for this disc whenever we are in the car. Susan has such a pleasant voice and the songs are really catchy. Definitely a must have!

I bought this for my 2 year old daughter as she loves songs with moves and we taught her signing when she was smaller and she loves it! Plus the songs are really easy to learn so now we can do them wherever even if we don't have the CD with us. And the pictures show you really clearly how to make the signs. It's a lot of fun and I highly recommend it! The only thing I would change if I could is to make it spiral bound so it's easier to keep the pages open as you're trying to do the signs.

This CD is fabulous with its one fault being that there isn't enough of it!! The songs are catchy and fun and the instruction book with the accompanying signs is clear and very easy to understand. I love the update to the classic Itsy Bitsy Spider and the original songs by Susan Z always make my baby smile! The signs will help us to communicate better long before she can talk. We've seen it work for other parents to prevent tantrums because you can more easily meet the childs needs...or at least understand what they are asking for!

"THE ABC'S OF BREASTFEDING" by Stacey H. Rubin is a MUST READ for any woman planning to breastfeed her first baby or her last. The unique approach in which Ms Rubin tells of her personal experiences as a Mom, a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner and a Lactation Consultant, is informative, educational and truly fun to read. As a Neonatal RN, I have come away with an expanded knowledge base that I can use on a daily basis with the parents and babies I care for in the NICU.

I read this book cover to cover when I was about 3 months pregnant. I had many worries being this was my first pregnancy. I had many questions about breastfeeding and I also had some concerns about the birth itself and the hospital experience. This book covered all my questions regarding breastfeeding and had many important tips. The layout of the book is extremely user-friendly and the text is intriguing and informative all at once. Also, I was pleasantly surprised to find a lot of information in this book about having a fulfilling birth experience. My pregnancy has its share of complications but this book gave me the confidence to ask the right questions and the knowledge to know what to request to make this birth a positive experience for me and my baby. I actually switched to a baby-friendly hospital at 20 weeks after finding that their standard care lines up perfectly with the ideas that Stacy Rubin recommends for developing a positive breastfeeding experience. I would never have known what to ask for or what was important if I didn't have this handy resource to rely upon. If you are breastfeeding or considering breastfeeding, get this book! It is a must-have! Better yet - it makes a wonderful gift to any expectant mom.

This book is great for women who are serious breastfeeders. Most books on breastfeeding are so basic that they're useless once you're really into breastfeeding. This book has substance to it;I'm breastfeeding my second child and I can still refer to it without feeling that my intelligence is insulted.Sometimes it's nice to have a more medical-based explanation, and this book gives that as well as the easier-to-understand version. The scenarios are realistic, too, and Stacey Rubin's remedies are as well. A useful tool for breastfeeding moms!

A great book from a great writer. Jenna has a knack of putting the reader in the moment, and allows any parent--to-be or tentured-- to INSTANTLY identify with the challenges she went/is going through. I'm a few years ahead of her (my kids are 13 and 10), but it was amazing to relive the challenges we as a couple faced with a newborn.

I'm looking forward to her next books on toddler years and... teen years

LOL... good luck, Jenna! Loved every word!

There are so many pregnancy books out there that it can be overwhelming, and many of them seem dominated by things to worry about or by political agendas on how you should birth/raise your child. I found this one by accident while on vacation, and have found that it gives you all the information you need to understand what's happening to your body and your baby's, distinguish what's normal from what needs medical attention, and feel prepared to bring your baby home. All with no fuss or lectures!

The book is divided into convenient sections, some of which you'll want to devour (nutrition advice, say, or descriptions of fetal development), others of which you'll want to read only as you get to the next set of changes and decisions (such as choices to be made about pain relief during delivery). The range of possibilities are discussed -- e.g., midwives and home birth versus full medical bells and whistles -- and lots of small remedies are suggested for common woes such as backache or nausea. There are also practical tips, like what clothes you'll want to bring to the hospital (for both mother and baby), which help with things you might forget.

All in all, a great book, that I would recommend to any expecting family.

I'm 13 weeks pregnant as I write this. When I found out I was pregnant, it was a complete surprise and I really didn't know much about pregnancy. After flipping through overwhelming books like "What to Expect When You're Expecting" I decided on this one.

This book had information on everything no matter how little or how much you know about pregnancy or birth. I'm not one to go for picture books, but when it comes to something as life changing as birth, I'll take a book that not only gives me all the info I could ever want, but SHOWS me the information as well. Every page is full color with diagrams and pictures, showing your body and baby as they develop, and various other pregnancy related things.

There's even a section on the first 6 weeks of infancy, so you don't have to say "Oh no! I read all about pregnancy and birth, but what do I do with this squiggly thing I brought home with me?!"

I read this every day and have something different and exciting to talk to my husband about every night. I also know what to look for at the hospital and what to talk to my doctor about at my visits. I also know what to watch out for at home and what I can and cannot do.

I would recommend this book for anyone who is planning to get pregnant, is pregnant, or wants to give the book as a gift.

I loved this book! Easy to read - comprehensive answers to almost all your questions you have about pregnancy. I wouldn't rely on this book alone, but it is a great source of information and gives you the idea of what you should discuss with your OB-GYN or what to request in the hospital. After reading most of it, I even decided to skip the birth classes my hospital offers because I felt I knew just enough and was ready to have my baby.

A pregnancy must have!

A teriffic book! I enjoyed how this book was written, organized and presented to the reader. It is truly a must have if you are expecting or expecting to be expecting! I was impressed by the pictures/graphics and the chronicalling of a pregnancy. The information grouped by weeks and trimester easy to read and understand. Many of the questions I had were presented with easy to understand answers. Even my husband enjoyed this book--he read more of this book than any of the other pregnancy references I have brought home. We will definatiely be grabbing this book off the shelf as my pregnancy progresses!

A proud father of a two and a half year old son, I think this book should be required reading for all parents to be. It will forever have a spot on my book shelf for reference.

Excellent tool for raising kids who are spiritually, emotionally and physically healthy.

The fact that the book was written by Zig Ziglar was enough for me to buy it, however the fact that it is full of sound, timeless, tested and proven advice on child rearing is why I recommend it. In a world that seems to have gone mad this book is reassuring. It gives you hope that your children can and will thrive if the advice is taken and put into action. As an added bonus, parents get a "check up, from the neck up" to ensure that we're on the right path and doing what it takes to lead by example.

I read this book a few years ago and find it a great parenting guide!
Above all it's written by someone that practices what he preaches and is a great example for the world.

If we want a better world we need stronger families and that starts with better relationships between husbands & wives.

It works!

I was given this book when I was carrying my now 20 year old son. 3 kids later, I still consider this book a bible. I give it to any friend that is becoming a parent. My kids are the most awesome kids you will ever meet. They are sweet, positive, caring, hard workers, etc (Man, I sound like a mom!). I really get compliments of a great job done when someone meets my boys.
Buy and read it. Things will click!
