This is to pediatric emergency medicine what Nelson's is to general pediatrics. This is the book. The bible. The source. Easy to read. Lots of tables and algorithms. Cool green cover!

Excellent desktop reference for the busy pediatrician. Many tables, graphs and subheadings facilitate rapid scanning of the easily read prose. A welcome addition to any emergency room that treats children. Extensive bibliography with each chapter.

My aunt, Susy, bought this book for me when my little brother was born back in 1987. It was such a wonderful book for me back then, and I still love it now. I have loved this book so much (and so hard - at times) that it's binding is all falling apart. My mom literally read it to me until the covers fell off! It's a wonderful book and such a huge part of my childhood.

An oldie but goodie!

My parents bought this book for me when my brother was born, back in 1985. I just started graduate school, and I still have it on my shelf. I love it, and it is one of the most memorable books from my childhood. A great book for new big brothers and sisters!

Big Gulp

What a treat this turned out to be. Our little one couldn't hear it enough, and our older one loves it too. She's eager to read it for
the baby and, in her unique style, "reads" and enacts from cover to cover. The words have a reassuring and appealing rhythm for the children, and mommy, daddy, and poor Uncle Jai have just about learned it all off by heart. With warm and winning illustrations it's a must for little ones getting to grasp with their environment.

A tremendous follow up to Magical Mystical Marvelous Coat

My daughters (ages 4 & 7) and I loved the images that were painted with Ms. Cullens first book and with Thirsty Baby we again are not dissapointed! We love to read the book at bed time and can recite almost the entire book. Given the nature of the Thirsty Baby's "thirst for life" I find that it also motivates bathroom pit stops before bedtime (Always a plus.) Wonderful illustrations that keep you looking all over the page.

We loved it, and look forward to the next.

An excellent resource for communicating with your infant
Helpful Votes: 16 out of 16 total.
Review Date: 1998-12-11
This book is ideal for parents of infants who want to enchance the ability to communicate precisely with their child before the child is able to vocalize. It contains simple and precise intstructions for teaching your child signs that they can use as early as 9 months old. It is basic enough for anyone -- you don't need experience with signing. The justification is clearly detailed, yet fun to read. The instructions for signs are clear as well. I found it much better than the similar book, "Baby Signs" in both content and instructions for making signs. If you or someone you know is interested in signing with their hearing child, this is the book for you!

It works miracles!

I bought this book when my daughter was 9 months old and started using it right away. She picked up the signs incredibly quickly and the amount of whining and pointing dramatically decreased. She's now 19 months and talks and only has a couple of signs she still uses, but at her age she's now asking to go "potty" on the toilet because we've been using the sign for 9 months to identify when she's obviously going in her diaper. Amazing. Buy this book if you have a baby and you will be so pleased!

This is a cute book for a little bit of an older child that can pull the pages in and out. My baby is too little for it now, but it will be fun for daddy and son to play with when he gets a little older.

Fun with my son

We received this book as a jokey gift when our baby son was born because his dad loves tools. Turns out starting at a year old, our son loves this book. First I pulled the tabs out for him, which "magically" reveal a tool, and now he does it with my assistance. The interactivity is fun and the way the book makes the tools appear/disappear is very clever and entertaining. Plus, my husband especially enjoys going through it with him because it's all about tools.

It Really Works!!!!
Helpful Votes: 15 out of 16 total.
Review Date: 2002-03-18
The whole idea of infant potty training seemed crazy until i thought about all those countries where no one uses diapers. Sure, it's a little different here, but the basic principles are still working. We decided to do attachment parenting, which has made it easier to infant potty train. My 3 month old goes diaperless everynight. Days when we stay home, he goes diaperless. I won't say there aren't a few accidents, but i will say it's amazing how few of them there are. This whole process depends on the parents putting in a lot of care and being really patient. We started at around 3 weeks old and now our son cues us on when to take him to the potty. He pees in public restrooms, in the bathroom sink, and in our baby bjorn potty (which is great for a 3 month old!).
There is a much larger (and more expensive) book out by the same author on the same subject, but that book really isn't all that necessary: this book covers it all. All you need to know to do it if you are sure you want to do it. If you aren't sure, the other book "Infant Potty Training" will convince you that it can be done. I've heard that most babies who are trained as infants take themselves to the potty as soon as they can walk...well, we'll see about that!

It worked for me!

We started when my son was around 1 month old. He's been cueing us to take him when he has to go as of a couple weeks later. What's even better- we do it part-time. If we're at the park or out-and-about, he's come to understand that he has to go in the diaper- but we always go potty at home. He's never had diaper rash and we've got a great system. There's no doubt in my mind that as soon as he can physically get himself to the potty himself, he will. He even tries to hold it if I'm slow to respond!

This is so much easier & nicer than "conventional" toilet training!

I borrowed this from the library so perhaps my expectations were lighter .. but I couldn't put it down. Practical, fun to read and covers many ages. My twins are 10 months old and this was a SUPER read. Next to The Girlfriends Guide to Toddlers ... a total favorite. It would go on my bookshelf next to Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child, Babywise and Dr. Sears.

Practical advice for parents of twins

As a parent of 4 year old twin sons, I enjoyed reading this book and see where it would provide meaningful assistance to new parents of twins. I wish this book had been in my hands when my wife broke the news to me that we were expecting twins. It would have helped ease my fears and prepared me for the big change. Christina and Cathleen have done an outstanding job of of sharing their insights into raising twins as well as bringing together experts in the field to deliver practical advice to parents (and soon-to-be parents) of twins. I would highly recommend this book.

This book is one of the most beautiful i have ever read. The photos are amazing. I was fascinated by the way that babies can swim in this environment. This book also showed pregnant women working with dolphins and in water. They were some of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. The birth pictures were awesome..if you are interested in water birth, this is the book for you!

Very beautiful photographic work

This book is full of very beautiful full-color photographs throughout, and the quality of the printing is very high. This is an extremely beautiful book!

I bought this book as a photographic work, although there is running text along with all the photographs. It's primarily about the joy and great value of introducing babies and children to water and swimming in a supportive environment, and it also has a good chapter on water birth.

This book is a delight! It has a wonderful way of making a child feel okay with the sometime negative feelings of having a new brother or sister. It is sensitive to ensure at the end of the book that everything will be okay!
