Debbie Bliss did a fine job (again) with this book. Her styles are timeless and just plain fun to knit. These bright sweaters kept me up past my bedtime because I was too excited to put down the needles... I just couldn't wait to put these sweaters on my children. Her instructions are easy to understand and follow. If you love to knit and/or love a child, this book is for you!

I have found these patterns to be very well written and easy to follow - although the level of skill required varies with the individual garment. Very cute, very wearable, most of them. Kid's reactions have been positive to the end results, and no one has refused to wear one in public (always frustrating after all that work)!

A great book of winning patterns from a designer who just keeps getting better with experience. Colorful fair isle, neat arans, clever stripes. I love love love this book, and I don't even have kids.

One of the biggest fears about pregnancy is the actual giving birth. You don't know what to expect, etc. Well, this book helps to calm fears about labor and puts it all iin perspective. I really liked it and would recommend it to anyone who feels they need some advice in this area. I also liked and would recommend You Know You're Pregnant When. This book offers a method that is new in this sense, methods that are steeped in ancient tradition and proven scientifically have been brought together in a cohesive form for women to use in childbirth. It is a method that can help erase fears and help women discover their own power. This method gives women the opportunity to give birth to their baby in a concious and healthy way whether they have their babies without drugs, with drugs or by cesarean. I highly recommend this book.

I LOVE this book!!! It is VERY difficult to find a book about labor and delivery that is focused on natural, holistic philosophies. Of the few that are out there, this is by far the best! I started out with other, more well known approaches and appreciated the general nature of the techniques, but found them lacking in spiritual depth and feeling somewhat superficial. If you just want techniques, they may be good approaches for you. However, I was looking for something that had a deep, philsophical foundation in addition to great techniques. What I love about this book is how it talks about the entire process of pregnancy, labor/delivery, and postpartun care. It is truly an holistic approach and I am grateful to have stumbled upon it!! I can't wait to read the author's other books!

This is a MUST HAVE REFERENCE for parents, babysitters, daycare people, etc. Is organized by developmental age, newborn, 2-3 months old, etc. You can use the index to look up a diagnosis or body sytem (respiratory sys.) or look up the conditions alphabetically. The colored pictures are great...especially for a child choking or needing mouth to mouth resusitation. I will never sell this book. It will stay in the family.

My wife loves this book, and that is why I purchased it I went ahead and bought a used book. I thought that I was going to receive the most updated version, as was shown in the picture, when I submitted my order. To my surprise I received a used version that was published in 1995.

This book is great, especially for first time parents. It has everything you could ever need to know about your baby or child in an easy to follow dictionary format. I have used it several times to look up information.

This is such a great book in that it really points out what you may or may not be doing wrong in the love department. Most importantely, it gives you guidence to doing something about it and getting it right once and for all!! A great read that I will recommend to friends, along with Man Magnet: How to Be the Best Woman You Can Be in Order to Get the Best Man.

I love love love this book!! It covers so many situations - past & present - that resonate with me. The book provides really sound and practical advice on changing the course of your love life (and life, overall!) that I have formulated a whole new strategy for 2008. It also helped me recognize mistakes I have made in the past, patterns I've been stuck in, and has helped me to understand the motivation, perspective and likely feelings of past partners, whose behaviors in the past had me mystified, angry or frustrated. It's an easy read, well organized, with concrete examples and sound advice. Not your typical formulaic "dating book" (like so many others out there) I highly, highly recommend it, so much so that I picked up a couple of the author's other books too.

I very much like Alan Cohen's writing! He is spot on, very positive and highly informative. An absolute must read for all types of relationships. Good bad and ugly. If you want a good relationship, Alan will show you how to get there. Good luck.

This is the book you must have if going into neonatology or neonatal nursing. This is the gold standard and the most up to date information in the field. I have had the privilege of working with the authors and many of the contributors for years now, and I continue to respect and admire their work and knowledge. It's heavy and worth every ounce!

I'm an average everyday bean counter with no background or interest in medicine. I just bought this book because my kid decided to come out at 28 weeks, and let's be honest: Doctor's are too afraid of lawsuits to tell the rest of us lay people all the goods. However this book is great and very accessible for the average high school graduate, such as myself, to understand what's going on. Granted, wikipedia is also nice because doctor's like to use words like "emesis" when "vomiting" will do, however the concepts are presented very clearly. I recommend it to any unfortunate soul who's kid is in the NICU and wants to know what's going on. Of course, if we can understand it, I'm not sure how helpful this book is to real doctors who do this for a living.

It is difficult to read, no doubt about that.However, it has a edge of giving the reader the required concept.Also it is unanimously known that the neonatology board questions contain a lot of questions, foundation of which are laid on the themes , well described in this book.
Definitely recommneded for any body really serious in neonatology.The latest chapter of bioethics and legal medicine is worth mentioning , as it has not been covered in any other neonatology text book.

Don't miss this informative book on childhood nutrition. I feel much more confident in my food selections, and my kids are happy at mealtime!

Finding Joy is a happy tale about the early life of a girl in China who is placed in an orphanage. The happiness comes when the girl is adopted by American parents and brought to the USA.

This is a good read for children to learn about the way other people live.

I too have lots of Chinese and adoption book for my daugther as well, but depending on your daughter you really should see if this book is right for you child by seeing if your local library has it or by ordering it at a book store that won't make you buy the book if you don't like it or think your child is ready for this book. You know your child best, is she emotionally ready and if they are so, to also know about not being born in your tummy, but of someone elses who chose not to keep her.

The 1st page shows a mother & father getting ready to leave their child beside a bridge. It talks about the parents being sad about leaving her and the only mention on this page of the " One- Child policy" rule is the last sentence which says No Room for Girls. There is more information on the very last page in the Author's Note which does speak more of the One Child Policy and Old Chinese belief on why boys are more important that girls.

In the book the baby is found with a note and a red blanket and both are returned on Metcha / Gotcha day. Most children are not found with a note and if they had a blanket I have never heard of a child being given the blanket back to keep.... it would be a wonderful item to have for your adopted child to have the blanket or clothes they where found in. I don't know why they aren't kept......

The book talks of the little girl named Shu-li being found and going to an orphanage with loving caretakers who had " room for girls". The story then goes on to a couple who has older children who are no longer at home but want a daughter to love. The mom excitely travels to China wondering....." yet a thread of fear wrapped around her chest and pulled tight. What would she find in this distant place? Could her family love a baby born to strangers?" Again, think of your child and how they would process this........and in the next page the last sentence reads " The mother smiled. The thread of fear unwrapped and fell away' when she finally sees her daughter. After metcha or gotcha day happens the next page is of mother and daughter flying home with the abandonment note and blanket. Everyone is happy at the airport and Shu-li has a new country, family and name Joy. The story ends with" In a chest in the attic, the red blanket lies neatly folded. When the time seems right, the mother will take it out and tell her daughter about flying far way to the land that had no room for girls, and finding joy"

The illustrations are done in watercolor by Yong Chen and are beautiful. I hope this review helps.

I purchased this book on recommendation from a fellow adoptive parent. We hav all of the other popular picture books on this topic. I have been introducing my daughter's story to her slowly, without much interest on her behalf until we saw the opening pages of this book. She was totally facinated by the story and while the details from then on are different, she is able to comprehend how they apply to her own start in this life. In turn, it has started to unlock some of her questions and early conversations about our familyh. This book brings it front and center and has opened up a lot of great dialog and interest in the other pieces in our library.

It is beautifully and sensitively written and the illustrations are gorgeous watercolor drawing.

Through her poetry, Kara Jones manages to share her exuberance over her pregnancy as well as the devastation when her much loved and dearly wanted son was born still. Her words settled in my mind like a song whose tune you keep humming over and over. The pain and anger at the unfairness of losing a baby is eloquently expressed. This book is a wonderful example of the power of the written word to help heal the heart.

"Flash of Life," by Kara L.C. Jones, is a beautiful tribute to her stillborn son, Dakota, as well as a great resource for finding online and offline bereavement support. It's a wonderful book of poems that tell Dakota's story before, during, and after Kara's pregnancy. As I read the poems, I felt like Kara was speaking directly to me about her hopes, dreams, and love for Dakota. I was able to relate in many ways to the author's loss and heartache. Kara's poetry throughout her book is easy to follow and understand. I could truly feel the variety of emotions put forth in her writings. I recommend this poetic narrative to anyone that has suffered the loss of a baby. This is a second edition of "Flash of Life" which also includes the full, original narrative, a 2002 Foreword, and an updated resource guide for finding support. "Flash of Life" also offers information about the ongoing dedicated bereavement work KotaPress does to help others.

A wonderful collection of poems!! From the start of a life at the beginning of pregnancy to the end of a life, for Kara's stillborn son, Dakota. Then the continuation of life and the motherhood of Kara Jones. Through these poems we follow a mother and son's journey through life, death and beyond. Beautiful imagery is portrayed to convey the feelings of the greatest love and the greatest loss.

This is the best make your own baby food book I've found! I purchased several other books (Simply Natural Baby Food, The Well Fed Baby, Organic Baby and Toddler Cookbook and The Petit Appetit Cookbook to name a few)but most barely mention infants and start with older babies. I wanted to know exactly when to start my three month old on baby food and what foods were appropriate at what age. This book gives you that in a simple, straight forward easy to follow manner. I can't recommend this enough. It's a perfect book to start with. They also combine this book in a kit that includes the food trays needed and a how to video. It's under a different name and is called the So Easy Baby Food Kit.

I am not a decent cook ,and even I figured out how to do this. I've used my food processor more in the past month than I ever have in my whole life. Recipes are very easy and there are some suggestions for "medleys", even using tofu and other items I wouldn't have thought of. Everything tastes delicious--I have no problem actually tasting the food before serving. Also we've found making our own food is much cheaper than buying jars (plus, we have twins.) When I tell people we make our own, they usually say we must be crazy or an "earth mother"--really it is very easy, tasty, and cheap. This book does not have recipes for toddler foods, only pureed baby foods.

This book is the best baby food resource I have found. It makes preparing foods so quick and easy. The recipes are divided by age range (4-6 mos, 6-8 mos. etc) and within the age range each food is given a page. Not only does it include recipes, but also includes variations with appropriate ages and other foods that can be combined with this food and appropriate ages. It is such a great reference. Furthermore, I had a question about one of the recipes and e-mailed the address in the front of the book. Within a few hours I had a response from one of the authors - I was very impressed. I have several books on baby food and this one is the easiest to read and use -if you're only going to buy one, this should be it!
