This was an easy read, with lots of useful information. There are "Smart Mama Tricks" sprinkled throughout that provide lots of helpful tips.

I'm expecting my first child, and this book covers most of the topics that I have questions about. It's not super detailed, but I see that as a positive. Some books on baby-rearing can be overwhelming with things to remember. This book seems to give a good basic overview. I'm sure I'll be referring to it again once the baby is here.

This little book is packed with a wealth of well-presented, easy to access, balanced information. It is very easy to read and reference topics, which is essential because the first year can be so blurry! I especially love the "Smart Mama Tricks" which appear throughout the book. I wish I had had this book when I had my first child. A perfect gift for all the new moms you know.

I bought this book on a whim and because it looked humorous. My husband and I were both pleasantly surprised by how practical and helpful it is! As first time parents we are always in search of good practical information. Of all the books we purchased this has been the best so far. It is a wonderful resource for first time parents. It gives great "how-to" details about a wide range of areas such as bathing, nail clipping, diapering, etc. It also helps a first time parent think through a wide range of topics that may not naturally come to mind. I strongly recommend it!

My 21 month daughter loves this book! We checked it out at the library and now I would love to buy it. Since she is just starting to talk, the simple sentences are easy for her to repeat. Although there are many books that she knows some of the words, she knows most of the words in this book and says them before I do.

This book is a very interesting read. Desmond Morris does a great job of delving into the nature of the human baby. It was fascinating and hard to put down. It would even make a great gift to parents-to-be, or new parents. I love this book.

I love the text and pictures in this book. It would make a wonderful new baby gift for any couple. I wish it were still in print so that I could find more copies. I would keep a 'stash' and have one ready as soon as I found out a friend was having a baby.

This book didn't serve as a reference on the "how to's" of infant care, but instead provided me with answers to so many of the fundamental problems new parents agonize over. It was such a wonderful change to hear Mr. Morris, a zoologist, dispell cultural myths and observe nature for explanations and suggestions. Reading this book was fun and made me feel confident that my parental instincts were in line with good care for my baby.

Forget Dr. Spock, read this & learn to CARE for your baby.

After the birth of my now-four-year-old daughter, this was the only "baby book" I read that made any sense at all. Morris' describes the mother-child contract, a reciprocal exchange of the baby making his/her needs known and mother fulfilling those needs. He puts into words the joy each mother finds in responding to her baby, and the incredible base of life-long security established in an infant whose needs are met by a loving, playful, and competent mother. I read the chapter "Why do Babies Cry?" every other day to remind myself that what I did instinctually with my baby (i.e., pick her up whenever she cried and figure out what she needed) was exactly right. Reading "Babywatching" always boosted my confidence, and made me feel like part of a competent mother-child pair. Reading other baby books (Spock, Brazelton) always made me feel unsure and question whether I was doing the right thing. The chapters "Where do Babies Sleep?" "What do Babies Eat?" "Why do Babies Cry?" and "What Comforts a Baby?" should be issued to every parent before they take baby home from the hospital. Truly caring for a baby means connecting to your baby on many levels: physical, emotional, spiritual, and intellectual (baby intellect being the mimicking and copying they employ to learn human communication.) Babywatching describes, in simple terms, how to make these connections with your baby, and, by extrapolation, with all of the people in your lives

We found this book in the library right before our second child was born. It was perfect to introduce our daughter positively to having a second little one in the family. But we loved the book for itself as well. The illustrations are adorable, they endorse the text perfectly. The book is great for animated reading and when we get to the page where "it is quacking time" we all quack like crazy. Wonderful!

This is a great book for any child expecting a sibling. My son loved (and still loves) reading this book before we had our second child. Now, we give it as a gift for families with a new baby coming. Also, the pages are nice and thick for a non-board book, making them less easy for little hands to tear.

This book is a great introduction to talk about a new addition to your family. My daughter and I read this book constantly while I was pregnant. Even though ducks come from eggs, Ducklings questions and statements very much resemble things my daughter said about my pregnancy. The drawings are cute and the story is easy for even a 2 year old to follow.

My 22 month old daughter loves this book! She'll ask for it randomly throughout the day and loves pointing out things in the pictures, such as "holding hands", "dancing" and "drum". She also imitates what the kids are doing in the picture. It's a book that you can't just read- it's got a rhythm that makes it impossible to not sing and dance as you're "reading" it w/ your child. Pictures are great, too! Highly recommended.

When I wrote this swinging nursery rhyme, I set out to write a jazz pat-a-cake. And I hear the diaper and toddler find the rhythm infectious. Some parents tell me their children ask to read the book every day and even sleep with the it. Happy dancing and pleasant dreams!

I bought this book for our now-22 month old daughter over a year ago because music was always an important part of my life and I our daughter to appreciate music as well. The moment we opened to the first page, it became one of her favorite books. As I would read it to her in the beginning I would do motions with the book -- to "Pound your drum" I would pat her tummy, to "Bounce and Boogie" I would bounce her up and down, etc. Soon she was doing the motions for the following page before I could even get the page turned. She LOVES this book, and I have always had fun reading it to her as well. The rhythms of the book are wonderful; you'll feel like you're singing a song with your child every time you read it. I highly recommend it!

"Jazz baby, jazz baby,/join the band./You've got music/in your hands." So begins Carole Boston Weatherford's engaging and entertaining romp, and little ones will be tapping feet, snapping fingers, playing real or imagined instruments, and dancing, bouncing, shimmying and jiggling to the jive of jazz. Ms Weatherford's rhyming text is filled with energy, rhythm, and motion, and complemented by Laura Freeman's bold and bright illustrations. Each two page spread dazzles with color and sheer joy as children are pictured on a rainbow, note-filled background blowing horns, plinking keys, plunking strings, beating drums and moving to the music. Perfect for preschoolers, Jazz Baby is a fun-filled, interactive celebration that is sure to become an instant family favorite. "Jazz baby, jazz baby,/hum a song./Let it rock you/all night long."

Kiddy chronicles is a 10! It is the only book of its kind which enables you to document your child's precious milestones in a practical, logical and fun fashion! The graphics are adorable and it is the kind of book your child will love to look at when he/she is older. Since the documentation is so easy and convenient, I find I am excited to enter each milestone as it occurs. And my son will be so appreciative that I took the time to do so (which takes no time at all)! What a fabulous concept and a keepsake to be cherished for a lifetime! Kudos to this author for publishing such an inspirational method of chronicling a child's development! Signed, Betty.

Thoughtful, warm, humerous, poignant book of photographs and quotes from children as they view our world through their eyes. Short and well composed by the authors. Delightful pictorals of children that capture the wonder of youth. An excellent reminder of whats most important and who we are. Dr. Freeds reminiscences at the end are deeply moving, memorable narratives of the childhood experience. MOC tells us how perceptive and precious our children are.

Having a little brother can be such a bother...oh where will it end? But, when looked at just right, little brothers can be a lot of fun, too. This is a fun book, with nice illustrations and a very fun story. I liked how the book teaches a lesson to children who get a new sibling. And, I must say that my four-year-old also liked the book. Well, that's good enough for me; I like it when she finds books she can make friends with. We both highly recommend this book!

This book came just at the right time. Will (will be 3 in August, 2008) just got his glasses so is starting to read. His little brother Harry will be 1 in July. Will loves all the things he can do with Harry like putting him in the trash...he runs around the house expounding that he is going to flush Harry down the toilet and laughs. The best kids book ever for my grandson.

Before Harry was born, There was ME!

Now there's me. And Harry.

Thus begins this delightful picture book about sibling rivalry.

Our little protagonist is extremely upset because now that his baby brother has arrived, everything has changed and no one seems to be paying much attention to him. In fact, Harry wants to steal the whole show! Thus different ideas pops into the protagonist's mind--throwing Harry down the toilet, sticking Harry in the zoo, or even better-mailing Harry to the moon!

But then one morning, Harry disappears and is nowhere to be found. Now it's up to his jealous older brother--who, by the way, doesn't seem too jealous anymore--to find him.

Mail Harry to the Moon is a cute and enjoyable book for very young readers. It's also a nice book to read to young children ages 2 and up. The writing is engaging and the illustrations, simple yet wacky and whimsical, go well with the story. This is a book that will especially appeal to little boys, and one that has an important message for the family. Often young children get jealous with the arrival of a new baby.

Mail Harry to the Moon is the perfect story to ease the tension and teach kids that a new family member can be a great thing too.

Armchair Interviews agrees.

These tapes are extremely informative. I learned more each time I listened to them, which was easy because they're actually quite fun. They also make great baby gifts for all my "mommy" friends. One drawback is that they don't appear to be available in CD. Many of my friends only have CD players especially in the car. If they are available on CD please let me know. Thank you so much. The Character Connection tapes reflect the best of what clinical wisdom and behavioral science have to offer on rearing healthy children and youth. Inherent in this approach is the recognition that relationship rather than manipulative tactics and stratetgies is the key to successful parenting. The conversational format complements the message by being interactive rather than dydactic. Principles of successful parenting emerge through discussion of concrete, real-life questions and situations. I recommend Character Connection to both prospective and current prents as a guide to the most important endeavor adult life has to offer.

Parents of all kinds will find valuable tips and concepts here. Best of all, the format is very entertaining -- listen to it on your way home from work and you'll be set to give your child the gift of positive nurturing parenting by the time you arrive home.

I love the relationships: Mary Margaret's relationship with her mom, with her dad, with her brother JT, with her friend Andy, and with her grandparents. All the relationships are depicted with great warmth and sensitivity, and Mary Margaret is very real and very lovable. Our grandkids loved the story and they were both trying to come up with possible animals for Mary Margaret as we read the story together. They seemed quite satisfied with the ending and now want to read more books about Mary Margaret.
