I found this book to be very helpful and enjoyable. I referred to it often and found the log book sheets at the back of the book to be of great use. The author Sue Tiller has a website where she provides her e-mail and was prompt in responding to my e-mails, answering my questions and such a terrific resource for my breast-feeding questions. She is truly passionate, dedicated and experienced in breast-feeding and I would highly recommend this book to any woman who is getting ready to breast-feed.

This book has great advice for moms wanting to know how to breast feed, I bought mine whilst eagerly awaiting my little ones arrival.
It does not go in depth as much as other BF books but is a great reference guide, with sound advice and a handy log at the back on the book to keep track of feedings and diaper changes. I think this book is beneficial for tired people who need quick advice on the main topics of BF.

This book gives you detailed information on HOW to breastfeed. This is the only book I've seen that does this. It tells you where to put your arms and hands and how to position the baby...the things you really need to know when there's no one there to show you. The illustrations are extremely helpful when you've got a hungry baby in your arms.

This book answers the questions that all moms have. Is the baby getting enough milk, how often should baby eat, how do I store expressed breastmilk...it's all in this book in an easy-to-understand format.

I have referred to this book countless times and have found it to be invaluable to me as a nursing mom.

This book is awesome....Anyone who is in medical or nursing school or dealing with pediatric patients should have a copy of Bright Futures to use a a reference. I also recommend the small version pocket guide.

The book is a great book to have while doing you Pediatric clinicals. And I was very impressed with the short time it took me to recieve the book.

Protecting children is a parent's responsibility and Christian J. Bezick has written THE CHILD SAFETY GUIDE FOR NEW AND EXPECTING PARENTS to help readers meet that responsibility. Bezick is founder and president of the American Family Safety Network. He is a specialist in the arena of child safety. The guide covers topics such as childproofing, sleep safety, car seats, infant products, and much more.

Bezick provides an alarming statistic that shows more than 4 million children under the age of 5 were injured and required medical attention in 2002. He goes on to say safety must be learned. Parents and caregivers instinctively look out for obvious dangers to children, but THE CHILD SAFETY GUIDE FOR NEW AND EXPECTING PARENTS points out the not so obvious dangers and arms readers with extra knowledge and comfort to protect their children. This guide should be required reading for anyone who is given the charge to care for children.

The Child Safety Guide for New and Expecting Parents is a potentially life-saving resource. Offering plain-terms warnings of numerous hazards to infants and children, and the basics of childproofing one's home and car, chapters cover how to place one's baby to sleep (always rest infants on their back, to reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome), car seats made simple, common choking/poison/water/window hazards young children face, and much more. An absolute must-have for anyone about to deal with very young children, whether welcoming a new family member or just baby-sitting for a few hours.

This is an outstanding book for all parents of young children and expecting parents.

It covers many topics, including childproofing, car seats, sleep safety, child products and recalls and household hazards areas, such as choking, poisons, windows and water.

I have found bits and pieces of child safety information in parenting magazines, websites and flyers, but this book has it all. It is not only comprehensive in its content, but also is very easy and interesting to read. The many illustrations and graphics certainly appeal to me as a mother of two young boys.

One of the things new parents have to deal with is how to change their home, their thinking, and their habits to make them all safer for children. The Child Safety Guide for New and Expecting Parents examines how to prepare for your new child and protect them from harm. The author covers many areas of child safety including childproofing your house (cabinets, electrical outlets, stairs, etc.), purchasing a child friendly crib, car seats, choking, poison, and water hazards. Especially for a new parent there are many things that are often overlooked. It would seem reasonable to assume that a child's walker or an older child's bunk bed is safe, but they often are not. Because of this, Christian J. Bezick also takes a close look at safety considerations for bunk beds, walkers, toy chests, playpens, and other common equipment and furniture for children. The Child Safety Guide for New and Expecting Parents is a highly recommended resource for all new parents.

Most people purchasing this book are probably like me. You have to purchase it because it is the required text for the class you are taking. If that is the case, then you are in for a treat.

This textbook is by far the best text I have encountered. It is easy to read, provides plenty of reviews so that you understand what is important, and the author provides plenty of examples to help readers remember each concept.

Even if you have the worst professor out there, this book should help you make it through your class because of its' user friendly nature. Enjoy!

Child bearers aren't meant to be child raisers. Hopefully you early child raisers are using all your resources possible to create a more peaceful generation.

I am really enjoying this book. It has a smooth transition from infancy to adolescence. Each chapter focuses on several areas pertaining to a specific age group and each subject is divided into subtitles. The flow of the book makes it easy to find exactly what you are looking for very quickly.

This book published in 1950 was Erikson's breakthrough book, the first one by which he became known to a wide popular audience. Certain of the ideas formulated in this book have become part of the language of our general culture, most notably the concept of 'identity- crisis'.
At the heart of the theoretical framework of this work is Erikson's conception of eight- stages of life.
The first of these stages he calls the 'oral- sensory'.It involves the conflict between basic trust and mistrust.
The second is called the muscular- anal involving the confluct between Autonomy and Shame and Doubt.
The third is the Locomotor Genital involving the conflict between Initiative and Guilt.
The fourth is the Latent involving the conflict between Industry and Inferiority.
The fifth is Adolescence where the Identity- Crisis comes into play at a time of Role- confusion.
The sixth is Young Adulthood in which Intimacy is in conflict with Isolation.
The seventh is Adulthood where Generativity conflicts with Stagnation.
The final is 'Maturity' or "Old Age' where Despair threatens Ego Integrity.
In this work Erikson brings case - history, comparitive anthropological data in showing how the human personality is transformed during the person's lifetime also through its encounters with Society . A pioneering work of great importance.

Mr. Erikson wrote a thought-provoking book, but it is certainly a product of his times. Such notions as homosexuality being deviant (his word, not mine) behavior and was more of a symptom of a psychologically damaged individual has not held up to present scientific evidence. Overall, the book is a fascinating dissection of childhood development and how it possibly manifests itself in adulthood. But reading this material wasn't exactly a cake walk. I doubt many casual readers could wade through Mr. Erikson's book without developing MEGO (My Eyes Glaze Over) Syndrome. For what it's worth, I enjoyed most of it.

An Uber-Classic--Required reading for anyone in psychology. No! make that anyone, period.

Read it just because it's a classic or read it because it has interesting things to say for today. Read it because it's so well written. The narrative just flows, and before you know it you've absorbed some pretty important concepts.

Erikson addresses nothing less than the role of psychology in the world, and the role of childhood in our social worlds. It's a combination of the clinical, the social, and the developmental, a combination of psychology and history. Case studies are presented and large themes are addressed.

"...we are also forced to recognize a universal blind spot in the makers and interpreters of history," writes Erikson, "... they ignore the fateful function of childhood in the fabric of society" (p. 404).

Whether or not you agree with all Erikson says, you will find it food for thought.

What a wonderful, delightful book! I picked it up not knowing much about chimps, but the thought of raising one along with your own child was an amusing and amazing premise. The book never fails to be loving, interesting, and educational all at once. The author loved his little chimp just as he loved his wife and child, and his expressions of love and knowledge about the various animals (mostly chimpanzees) he talks about in this book are lovely. Man can often be very cruel and foolish and stupid, whereas it seems animals are just themselves. They can survive in all sorts of man-made zoos and such, with nary a complaint. Sophie, the chimp in this book, was a special and loving little creature who will grab your heart. Thank you to Vince Smith for sharing your deepest heart with us.

This is a profoundly touching book. You will feel a lot of very strong emotions of all kinds reading it, and the end is devastating. Smith does a great job showing us the great spirit and soul of Sophie. My wife and I felt his loss keenly, and had tears. The pictures alone are worth the price of the book. Highly recommended.

this book proved far better than many similar works about raising baby animals. it is well written and not excessively sentimental or anthropomorphic, though the author does discuss the close relationship between chimps and humans, genetically and behaviorally.

This book is really helpful for parents looking for nutritious and interesting meals for their children. It has great variety and includes whole family meals that allow you to cook for baby, toddler, and adults all at once. The author deals with baby foods, toddler foods, and foods for families in the three sections. She also includes advice on what is age appropriate and ways to get vegetables into the picky toddlers diet. The book includes photos of most recipes and neat presentation ideas. My daughter eats a large variety of foods thanks to this book.

What I love about this cookbook is the level of inspirational food which it provides. It is healthy, bright, inspirational and includes food for all ages of pre-schooler. Importantly there are some great recipe choices to have as family dinners as well

Lovely mixtures which sound tempting too for children, including skinny dippers with a lovely dipping sauce, some great frozen yoghurt ideas and interesting ideas using shape cutters, including making different kinds of sandwhiches and also cutting vege shapes like carrots out with them - nice way to get children eating.

What I also liked about this book is each recipe is well illustrated and includes picture instructions about what to do - with some of the recipes this can be extremely handy

There is a good table of contents which makes it easy to reference the age group or type of dish you want (under 6 month old, 6-9 month olds etc)

What I found difficult in this book is that not all ingredients are listed - for instance under Courgette Gougere the ingredients list at the top doesn't include water - which is critical ingredient in the recipe. So it is not instantly clear when you are making it what you are making. whether it is thickening for the courgettes or the gourgere itself. You have to read the instructions and then look back and forth - some things have measures in the instructions, and some things you have to look back to the list of ingredients. That makes the recipes hard going to follow.

What I also found difficult is that the ingredients have three different measures used for each - or up to three. So for the Courgette Gourgere again you can use 50g/2oz/4 tbsp of butter. If you get a list of ingredients with everything in a variety of measures for you to select like that it becomes hard going.

I would much rather they just chose one measure and had a conversion table available. Its another small thing about the illustrations but again, in the Courgette Gourgere recipe the pictures shows the demonstrator piping on a lovely circle of batter and the letter A - in the illustration there is a picture of the batter ring beautifully cooked, and a cooked letter J. It is a small thing but it lacks good connection between pictures as it doesn't show the 'process' from start to finish.

Overall the recipes are FANTASTIC, my reservations are purely in the presentation which I think could sharpen up. Otherwise I recommend this book in the fullest.

I just love this book. It has monthwise sections saying which food to start when. I love the idea that you steam your vegetables first and then mix it with milk and puree it for the baby. This way I will be able to mix milk in my baby food without heating it and destroying some vitamins. The pictures are so very adorable too. It also has list of necessary and useful models of bibs, utensils, bowls and cups. You get so many types in the market these days and as a new mom you want to buy them all. This book gives you some idea of the useful ones.

I really liked this book when I got it from the library. I would recommend it to anyone who is learning to make their own baby food, or trying to entice a toddler to eat. It has step by step instructions, and beautiful illustrations. My three year old looks at it, points to the pictures and says, "Yummy, Mommy, yummy!" I haven't had a chance to try the recipes yet, but most of them look pretty good and include the whole family, from baby to parents. In the latter half of the book, it shows you how to prepare a meal, when to take out portions for the baby and younger child, and how to season and present the dishes for different members of the family, which I found useful because I like to have every step written out to make sure I don't leave out a step. There is also a dessert section! Yummy, mommy, yummy! :)

I got this book when my son was three years old, and wished I would have had it sooner. It is a very quick read, so simple and yet profound. It made me rethink a lot of the things I was doing- Many that when I thought about it, I could structure things so he could do them himself. I reread it when I was pregnant with my second child, and it inspired me to set up my house and my schedule differently. Now my youngest is six months old, and I can say I am getting way more sleep than I did after a year with my first. Definitely worth the time and money!

I bought this book before (thank goodness) our child was born. It has saved me a lot of time to enjoy our child & we make the most of the time we have. There are so many helpful hints in this book!!! Every parent with babies & young children definately needs a copy! You will like it so much, you will buy a copy for all your friends.

I was given the first edition of this book as a gift (this new one appears to be a second edition) and it turned out to be the most useful of all the baby books we have. We were really able to prepare for our son so that we could get the most sleep possible after he arrived. This book is packed full of useful tips like what to buy and where to put it in order to make the most of the time baby is awake (and so you don't waste time when baby sleeps), what to do with your toddler when you need to sleep when baby sleeps, and how cook without the frustration of a fussy baby. This book was essential to surviving those first few newborn months! Two Rattles Up!
 

I am living far from family and close friends, so I knew I wouldn't have much help in the daily routines of having a baby. I needed to find some practical ways to integrate the baby into our busy schedule, and still get the rest I so needed as a new mom. I bought this book last year when I was searching the internet looking for a "get more sleep" type book. It was a good choice! The book was well organized and the "crib sheet" to-do list feature made it easy to set ourselves up so that we'd get more sleep when baby arrived. The fact that this is a "mom written" book is a big plus. It's a "reality" baby book with plenty of straight talk about how tough it really is to care for a newborn. But what makes this book a real "must have" is that it provides real solutions! I'm so glad I had this book when I was pregnant! Since there are plenty of tips and chapters devoted to what to do with siblings when you're trying to get more sleep, I'm looking forward to using it again when I have my next child

Just bought this book for my neighbor who's just had her second child. It's so cute and funny. Perfect for any kid who has to learn to deal with a sibling. But a hoot for all kids.

The Difference Between Babies and Cookis is as sweet as, well, cookies! It's also as warm as a new baby cuddled in your arms, hilarious as a stand-up comedian, and as true as the changes a new addition brings to every family. This book would be a delicious choice for any child (and her/his parents!) about to become a sibling. (It will make only children laugh, too!) Highly recommended. This book has humor AND heart.

Parents are in important resource in the filed of Autism. Many Parents of children with Autism are the first to notice that something is different about their children, but are often ignored or made to feel like they are stupid, inexperienced or overreacting. This book provides parents and professionals with a solid manner to detect abnormalities before the age of one. I firmly believe that this can lead to a better means of communication between Doctors,Researchers and Parents. Accomplishing such a collaboration is a large step toward understanding Autism. Anyone who has a child with Autism, works in the field or would like to know more about Autism should own this book!!!!

This new model for early diagnosis probably won't go mainstream until the research also includes numbers for babies who display early motor issues but *don't* go on to develop autism. In the meantime, however, it provides very valuable insight into how complex skills such as righting, crawling etc can be further broken down into sequential actions. Certainly the findings reported in this book could create an avalanche of inquiries at pediatric offices but at least in our case, we are very much reassured by better understanding how motor skills are developed normally as contrasted to abnormal/impaired development. Given how easily the information can be digested, it should probably be a mainstay of the pediatric office... either in book form or as short educational video clips looped on a flat panel. If nothing else, it will give the average person a better appreciation of why autistic children are developmentally delayed and perhaps help foster a culture of acceptance.

The authors offer motor development clues gleaned from videotapes of children diagnosed with autism to help parents and others identify possible early autism in infants. Delightfully drawn graphic illustrations enhance the easily understood narrative. The authors identify numerous autism information and therapy resources.

This new system for detecting the earliest signs of autism - in a baby - offers a brand new theory and comes from a husband/wife team who have worked for nearly two decades to develop ways of detecting signs of potential autism in a child. By expanding patterns of sitting, crawling and walking and comparing them with those of children later definitively diagnosed, they present both general information about autism's causes and progression and a survey of tests the parents can easily conduct to help define and identify early autism onset with respect to their children.
