I bought this along with Elaine Stillerman's prenatal book. I am a massage therapist that's trained in prenatal and knew that there were some things that you had to be careful of when massaging a mommy-to-be. Most women love aromatherapy but have to be aware of certain risks when using essential oils during their pregnancy. This book is clear about what to use and what to avoid. Highly recommended.

A must have

Many women enter pregnancy with a heightened desire for self-awareness and well being. Allison England has written an informative text, introducing the nurturing and health promoting treatments of aromatherapy and massage for use on mothers to be, and newborn infants.
Through the use of essential oils in baths, massages, and specific treatments, readers will learn how to increase their body awareness, ease the common discomforts of pregnancy and aid in relaxation and pain management throughout labor and delivery.
The sections on postpartum needs, breast-feeding and basic newborn care will ensure this book does not grow old on a shelf. Parents will refer to it again and again for safe and effective remedies.
Illustrated sections on massage for the mother-to-be, and baby, show how to nurture the mother, and calm the infant. They make for an excellent, hands-on tool for partners who want to participate in the birth experience.
All safety issues are clearly spelled out with the pregnant woman and newborn in mind¸ and general education is provided so that the reader can proceed in confidence, knowing which oils to embrace, and which oils to avoid, along with dosage recommendations for pregnancy.
Aromatherapy and Massage for Mother and Baby was written with the goal to help every mother feel her best, and help in facilitating the bonding of the mother and child in a fragrant, gentle way. This book is a "must have" for all pregnant women who want to explore essential oils, and their natural, time-honored potential for enriching their pregnancy and mothering experiences.

Aromatherapy and Massage for Mothers is an excellent resource book for any pregnant moms, friends of pregnant women, or massage therapists. I got lots of great ideas for my clients whom I will be doing labor massage for. I wish I had this book when I was pregnant with my children. There are many great ideas on all of the various ailments of a pregnant woman. This is a great book.

I found this book at Whole Foods and didn't know if it was worth the price. Went across the street to the library and checked it out. The answer is yes, it is worth the (Amazon) price! It is chock full of information pertaining to aromatherapy and oils that are safe for mom and baby both prenatal and postpartum. I was especially interested in which oils help with the baby blues and this book gives a thorough rundown of those as well as others that relieve pain, give energy, and calm you (or the baby) down. I have to take the library book back, so here I am to buy it. If you are interested in massage and/or aromatherapy, or know a pregnant mom who is, get this book! I wish I would have had it for my first pregnancy.

I love this book... I saw it, flipped though it, and knew I had to get it for my daughter. It's a beautifully written, sweet book and the illustrations are museum quality art. My daughter (1 year old) loves the pictures, the rhymes, and sitting with us and reading this book. HIGHLY recommended-- get it for your own child, or even better, get it for a friend with a new baby. It'll make her happy-cry!

This would be a great book for anyone you know who has recently adopted a baby. Although it doesn't specifically discuss adoption, it talks about how babies end up in the arms of the people they were meant to be with. Cute book with cheerful illustrations.

This book is the prettiest baby book ever! Really great for a girl, but I used it for my son too. I like that it only goes to two years - something I can realistically finish. I am keeping additional notes on the computer for later years. Another nice feature is that you slip the photos into cut "frames" so you don't have to find the glue to put the pictures in, and you can remove them later if you wish.

I bought this album for my daughter and love it. It is so elegant and sophisticated, yet has all the places for the important information you want to record. Everyone asks me where I got it. I looked endlessly for another one before my next child was born (It was discontinued at a local store) - finally found it at Amazon. It makes a great baby shower gift too.

This is the prettiest baby book I've seen. When opened at a shower, it was such a hit that several people wanted to know how to get their own copy. It is victorian in flavor but timeless in design. Exquisite.

This Baby Album is the most beautiful book I've ever seen! The layout is exceptional , but what really awes me about it is the tissue papered pages between which is a beautifully illustrated matte in which to insert photos. This album is heirloom quality and any child would treasure such a keepsake from the first two years of their life.

Hint: there are several pages where mom can record pregnancy related things, so if you know a mom-to-be, get her this book during her pregnancy so she can complete it fully.

I can't say enough how much I treasure this book. I have one for each of my daughters and will buy more for friends. [...]

For a Good Sweet Cry...
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2006-03-09
I bought this book for myself 4 years ago when I was pregnant with my son. I read it and would cry and cry at the absolute sweetness of the poetry. The people who wrote these pieces totally and completely understood what I was feeling during my pregnancy -- the bliss, the aprehension, the anticipation. After I had my boy, I picked the book up again, and now a whole different section of the book made me cry. Then he turned one, and the book hit me again. Now 4 years later, I just bought the book for 3 of my friends, 2 who are pregnant, and one who has a 1-year old. They are all sobbing. They are not sad poems at all, quite the contrary. They are full of real moments of unadulterated preciousnesses, that force one to sit and fully feel the love we have for our children and for pregancy and for every little quiet personal moment. I literally cannot open the book without feeling overwhelmed with love and without needing to absolutely bury my sweet boy in kisses.

It's all here.

I didn't expect to sit down and read this book from cover to cover, but I did. I am often skeptical about books that claim to be inspiring, but I was impressed. From the poem PREGNANCY to YOU-AND-I, NURSING to NORMAL CHANGES, I was connecting with everything I cherish about being a mother. The selected poems and writings will touch every mother-to-be and serve as a heartfelt reminder to those of us who remember the early days with our babies. No matter the age of our children, the love and hope we hold for them remains and this collection is a reflection of that love and hope. I must quickly finish this review so I can re-read Baby Blessings! (p.s. Every mother - new or not-so-new - would treasure this collection.)

Beautiful Gift Book Captures the Richness of Babyhood

I bought this book for myself and keep buying copies for gifts-for a sister-in-law who's a new mom, for my mother, my children's pediatrician, one for my obstetrician, and additional copies for dear friends who are mothers. The book is lovely and its subject timeless--a perfect little gift.
I've come to expect a lot from June Cotner's anthologies, and the quality of writing found in BABY BLESSINGS is no exception to her other rich and delightful compilations. This one captures every stage of babyhood from every vantage point and is my favorite of all, perhaps because BABY BLESSINGS is enhanced by a particularly endearing cover, the photograph of an adorable unclothed baby with the David Beckham hair!

I purchased this book on the recommendation of a friend. I gave it to my son and daughter-in-law before the birth of their first child. They were both thrilled with the book and, in turn, purchased it for a couple they knew were having a child. It is a soothing and magical must read. It is relaxing and thought provoking. It reminds us of what is truly important in this life and the great blessing we can experience with the celebration of life. It is one of those rare finds that you never tire of and with each re-read, you smile again and say "Ah, yes". Eleanor Manning, Author, Voices.

Baby Boot Camp had such encouraging words for me physically, mentally, and spiritually. With Rebecca's personal testimonies I felt like I was laughing and crying right along with her. She also reminded me every day of the first six weeks with my newborn baby who I should depend on to help me get through each day, Jesus Christ. I feel so blessed to have had Baby Boot Camp for the beginning of my journey into motherhood. I have also enjoyed reading back through it as my newborn turns into a toddler. Very Inspiring!

I encourage every new mother to read this book. The daily devotions are filled with encouragement, humor and wisdom. Having a baby is a wonderful yet exhausting experience. The first six weeks of motherhood is literally Boot Camp! What a wonderful concept. I was amazed to see how each day related to exactly what I was going through. Some days I laughed, some days I cried, but every day I was thankful to know that someone had completed Boot Camp before me and that yes, it can be done.

This is a great gift idea. I bought this for myself wanting to use it for my second baby's stuff. I was disappointed to see that the box is not that big and will not hold a lot of your baby's mementoes, but then the touching baby pictures, the passages in the journals, the book -- they are a surprise bonus. Also, the journals (2 separate journals for the pregnancy and for the baby) are blank pages of beautiful paper so it will be a little more difficult to fill the pages in without the usual questions/guides that other baby/pregnancy books have. All in all though, for the price that I paid for this purchase, I am very happy with what I got. I would want to buy more for my pregnant family members and friends.

The Baby Guide is a wonderful book for anyone who needs baby information. And if you're a new parent or an expecting parent, you need baby information! One of the best features of the book are the 800 numbers and web site addresses of hundreds of companies and organizations. If you want to order products, catalogs, or find information, this is the only reference book you'll need. In addition, the book provides helpful advice from experts and "real-world" experts: parents who have the benefit of experience. Advice is provided on topics ranging from preconception preparation to postpartum depression. The Baby Guide is truly "your total resource for pregnancy, birth and beyond!"

This book understands that pregnancy is more than just facts, it is an emotional journey. Finally, this book is a great buy - I'll be giving it as a gift at every baby shower I go to!

What a beautiful book! We found this at the library when my daughter was about a year old, and realized (after repeatedly renewing it) that it was a wonderful book to own. The pictures are, of course, mesmerizing (great for adults during the constant rereading phase). The text is easy for both my daughter and me to memorize, so we can even enjoy it when we are out and about. It's become our favorite birth gift to give, as it's reasonably priced through Amazon. My daughter is now three, and continues to enjoy it. I can see it being a great reading tool soon, due to the repetition and picture clues. Enjoy!

An Exquisite Book For Both Mother And Child

"Baby Loves" is so beautiful you can put it on your coffee table. And it makes a lovely gift for baby or a preschool child. Magnificent reproductions by impressionist artist Mary Cassatt are paired with simple two word poems. The artist is best known for her paintings portraying the love between mothers and their children. The images - paintings, prints and pastels - accompany short rhymes about a baby's daily activities, such as drinking milk, napping, feeding ducks and hugging.

William Lach wrote the book, and the illustrations are from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, collection. There are 16 pages of paintings, each with its own description. In one picture a mother and child are cuddling with the words, "Baby cuddles." The simple, easy to understand language and powerful artwork make this an ideal book for small children. (Newborn and up). This would also make a wonderful gift for a new mother - or any mother. I just gave it to a friend who recently had her first child and she loves it - apropos of the title. The book also includes facts about the artwork. "Baby Loves" won a "Child Magazine Best Book 2003 Award" and is one of the most exquisite children's books I have seen in a long time. Highly recommended!

This book is beautifully composed with the works of artist Mary Cassat. Each page has two simple words that describe a painting on the following page, making it suitable for the younger child as well as older child. Each of the paintings are of a mother and a child. The book begins with Baby Sits, Baby Stands, Baby Looks, Baby Hands and ending with Baby Hugs, Baby Kisses, Baby Loves. My 14 mo old is mesmorized by this book. She wants to read it every morning when she wakes up, at the very least. She started doing the baby sign that we had been teaching her with the pages that she knew the signs for such as drinks and reads. She also kisses and hugs us or her "Lovie" on the Baby Kisses/Hugs pages. Now she says "baby" and signs for book when she wants to read Baby Loves. My husband and I have been amazed at how much of an impact this one book has had on our daughter. Baby Loves is a wonderful way to introduce your child to the arts as well as promote language and attention to detail. The Metropolitan Museum of Art has done wonders with this book. There is also a very nice, classical piano Baby Loves CD to go with it. "Thank you" to the Welchs for such a special gift!

Parents of infants should know if you don't already--babies love to look at other babies! My son asks to read this a lot. Each page has a muppet interacting with a baby, for instance, the first page has a "Dinger" puppet, a "Honker" puppet, and a baby playing a drum, with the words, "Ding, Ding, Honk, Honk, Rat-a-tat-tat."

This is definitely a baby book, because each page has only 3 or 4 words, and the concepts are very simple, such as dressing up, bathing, napping, etc.

One last interesting thing to note is that Jim Henson was an editor of this book.
