In this book Rami explains the basics of how nutrition is linked to so many of these so-called "incurable" diseases. At the end of the day, there are no shortcuts. We do need to take full responsibility of raising our children properly. I like the way he explains this using his own life story. If you have a family member or a friend who is planning to conceive a baby then you will do them a big favor by telling them about this book. In fact, this could be the best gift you could ever give to them!

This book is truly a treasure!

Critically important information for all parents...especially future parents

Think you are powerless to prevent Birth Defects, SIDS, Autism, Infertility, Colic, Tooth Decay, Miscarriage, Infant Mortality, Morning sickness, Premature Birth, Scoliosis, Postpartum Depression, and Mental Disabilities? Think again! Parents can and should take responsibility for preventing these plagues on our children's health. Nature's design is perfect. We just need to learn how to honor and respect it.

It is very difficult for me to write a review for such an amazing and significant composition as Healing Our Children. I feel like I could never do it justice, but at the same time, it is as imperative that those who have read it should share what they know with others.

Ramiel Nagel details the steps future parents, pregnant mothers, and parents of small children can take to dramatically decrease the chances of such diseases and defects. He includes dietary guidelines for preconception, pregnancy, lactation and early childhood that will give the greatest chances for successfully raising healthy, happy, beautiful, robust children. He unlocks these secrets from their hiding places in traditional societies that have flourished, free from illness, for millennia.

You owe it to your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins to research these simple methods for avoiding the suffering that is all too common in our modern society. Medical advances have done nothing to stem the tide of birth defects, infertility and childhood diseases. If anything, they have only expedited it by ignoring the laws Nature has clearly laid out for mindful traditional cultures to follow.

I appreciate Nagel's honesty in providing this important work. It is up to each of us to implement these strategies to heal our children.

We want the best for our children. They are our future! The sweet innocence children bring here must be protected in order for there to be harmony in the human race.

Healing Our Children contains the sacred wisdom you can only find when you search your soul at a very deep level. At the same time I have found the book to be very practical and full of common sense.

Through practicing the personal empowerment exercises and learning amazing facts, I have successfully birthed two beautiful children and I am currently raising them to be full of love for life. They are healthy and attractive and I am grateful to receive this beautiful gift of motherhood. Healing Our Children helps you to have this as well, it is a treasure.

A Comprehensive Guide to Nourishing and Nurturing Our Children

Review Date: 2008-12-09
How we feed and raise our children ultimately determines the future health of our society. In this modern culture we have traded the importance of our children for the importance of materialistic goals. Our world is currently reflecting this tragic shift in priorities. Sally Fallon , who wrote the foreward to the book, provides us with an excellent analogy to explain the reasons for our modern illnesses and discomforts.

Healing Our Children is very comprehensive in it's scope....covering just about every issue that one can think of in relation to a child's health and well-being. The preparations begin even before a child is conceived. In order to have a well formed healthy child, the parents themselves must have an exceptional diet for a period of time before conception and this superior nutrition must be continued during pregnancy and throughout childhood.

The author, Rami Nagel, shares with the reader how the observations of Dr. Weston Price are still relevant today. Dr. Price traveled throughout the world comparing the diets of indigenous peoples who ate only their native unprocessed foods to those who lived in the more populated areas and consumed factory made foods. These devitalized foods were stripped of their nutrients and laden with sugar. He found that those eating the natural foods bore children who were well formed, robust, cheerful and rarely sick. Dr. Price observed that those who obeyed the natural laws of diet expressed more of the Divine nature and possessed a higher form of manhood. Those who ate the modernized diet produced sickly deformed children who grew up more prone to pain, unhappiness and crime. The communities which followed their native unprocessed diets experienced little crime and had no need for jails. Rami explains it this way....."We were not thrown out of the Garden of Eden, represented by good health and a happy life, but rather, we have forgotten how to nurture and maintain that garden, which is a dormant potential within each one of us."

The author stresses that we must take back the responsibility for our children and that it is our duty and our privilege to fully nourish, nurture and protect. Parents who take the time and effort to do this will be richly rewarded by children who are happy, healthy and bright. Our society will then reflect this rich inheritance. Nagel thoroughly discusses the types of foods that are important for preconception, pregnancy, and later in the book he talks about the nourishing foods needed by growing children. Many adverse conditions of childhood can be prevented or healed through proper nutrition.

Rami encourages parents to understand and respect their child's stages of development and to not expect more from them than they can comprehend. He and his partner Michelle speak of how important it is for parents to be available to their children, to carry them close when they are young....to provide a sense of connection and security. They try to relay how crucial it is for the mother to bonded with her child and that this is what will help to foster true happiness and close relationships.

Healing Our Children is a refreshingly unique and helpful book. The author covers all facets of raising a healthy child.....the emotional, the spiritual, the nutritional and the practical. I was very impressed. However, there may be some advice given in the book that may sound radical or impractical to some parents. I thought about this for a bit and came to the conclusion that the reason some of the suggestions seemed impractical was because we have come so far from a natural way of living and have created lives which are increasingly artificial. Due to the fact that we live in a modern society, it is realized that everyone may not be able to accomplish everything suggested in this book. This is why Rami encourages parents to take from the book what feels most comfortable for them. Rami does not present a 'one size fits all' protocol. He shares the options and allows the reader to decide what is best for their individual circumstances.

I found the section on vaccines to be especially powerful and motivating. Rami presents the facts and shows us why vaccines are not helpful but in fact can cause deaths, lower immune function and many chronic diseases.

There is also an excellent section which reveals the true purposes of public education and how children are negatively molded by society/government. Mainstream schooling does not appear to be fostering individualism and freedom.

Rami asks "Where do the ideas of what is right and wrong come from?" He suggests that we do not have to give our power away to those who have even less of a clue than we do. He tells us, "We mistakenly believe that those authorities are the ultimate purveyors of truth. Most people whom we fear are totally ignorant of life. In a way they are like robots following a set of rules. They embrace negativity. But they lack the true source of wisdom and power, so they always fail in the end. Only truth can survive; all else falls away."

I highly recommend this book to those who want to raise happy, healthy children who will grow up to be self reliant with a compassionate mindset which will positively affect the world we share together. Rami Nagel's book is a gift to us all.....a gift of love.......of hope.....and of true solutions.

As a new parent I bought this book mostly because I feel like I can trust Johnson & Johnson. It's a great book for new parents, maybe as a baby shower gift. Very descriptive, a few too many color pictures of babies where more info could have been added...but very helpful. I would recommend this!

I asked my partner to compare all the pregnancy books that I found in Kinokuniya bookstore. I am glad he choose this book, since it covers from pregnancy till 36 months. I did compare it with Dr Miriam Stoppard's books, and find this book is way much better for its illustration and explanation. It give step by step guidance through pregnancy that you want to know and even the basic knowledge such as breast feeding babies and changing nappies (with illustrations, of course!)

Title: Jump the Cracks

Author: Stacy DeKeyser

Rating: 4.5/5

Good:

This book started out in a very interesting way. Within fifteen pages, an ordinary girl with a screwy home life is forced to look a problem in the eye and make a choice whether or not she should do something about it. Of course, she decides to do something.

I finished this book in less than a day, and I was completely intrigued. From the very beginning, Stacy DeKeyser created a main character that I could easily sympathize with. Victoria could easily be just like me or any one of my friends. She is a weak teenager, but she is unbelievably strong where it counts. When it comes time for her to try to save an innocent child from something she knows is wrong, she does what she thinks is right.

This story is completely indescribable. It portrays such a strong message about love and acceptance, except it's done in a completely unexpected way.

Bad:

This is really hard for me to think of something bad about this book... The whole thing was mesmerizing and kept me interested from beginning to end. The writing was nothing spectacular, but it was definitely made up for by an amazing story line.

Fantastic fantastic fantastic!!!!

What a fantastic, heartfelt novel from Stacy DeKeyser that offers a wonderful commentary on human morality in a face-paced and ever changing world. The heroine goes on a page-turning adventure that keeps you on the edge of your seat from page one to the end. The novel is an excellent all-around read for any young adult or grown-up alike. The journey of Victoria and Wills will make you laugh out loud while at the same time tugging at your heart strings. The book expresses beautifully, poetically and humorously what true love and promises are all about. The special love and bond that is created between the young protagonists is one that will make you want to pick up this book and read it over and over again! And your friends will want to read it too!

I couldn't put this book down! It's an exciting read. It reminds me a bit of the film Thelma and Louise, in that Victoria, the main character, never intends to do anything wrong. In fact, it all begins because she is trying to help an at-risk little boy, but each "right" decision to help the boy sends her further down the path to being a fugitive and kidnapper. What starts as a well intended action spirals out of control and leads to a crazy chain of events. It's a great ride, with a very satisfying ending. While marketed as a young adult novel, the content is also appropriate for younger readers.

It is easy to connect to the characters in this book making it hard to put down! Middle school and teen readers will relate to Victoria's dilemma and I can hear them in heated discussion about what she should do. For a 15 year old girl facing the adult world where life demands compromise, Victoria is facing a very difficult decision. What will she choose?

A Great Read

A wonderful YA novel, totally appropriate for mid-graders, too. Fifteen-year-old Victoria heads into NY alone on the train to meet her dad, who hasn't "been there" for her much since her parents' divorce. She gets side-tracked by a toddler in an at-risk situation and when her dad fails to meet the train, she makes a heartfelt snap decision to rescue little Wills. The reader is along for a great ride in the ensuing railway chase involving threatening characters, concerned relatives, and the police. Jump the Cracks is a page-turner until the end, as Victoria struggles to care for Wills while trying to figure out the meaning of family and home and how to get both of them there safely.

A can't miss gift idea for the expectant mother

Review Date: 2008-11-21
My wife and I have made a habit of giving this book to expectant mothers (and fathers!). The book is written with such a reasonable attitude, as opposed to the "militant" style of some authors who have a "my way or the highway" attitude about this subject. That is what makes this such a good gift - it puts the mother at ease, and it isn't at all like we are imposing a viewpoint on anyone. (We don't even have kids ourselves, let alone a viewpoint!)

We seem to be in the "baby boom" years among our social circle, and so we just buy a handful at a time and grab one off the shelf to wrap up each time someone else announces a pregnancy. So far, every single recipient has been really grateful. One mother told us it was the first baby book that put her at ease, rather than causing more anxiety.

Mama Knows Breast was given to me as a gift when I first got pregnant and it has been by far the best new parent book I have read to date. Being pregnant with my first I always expected to breastfeed but didn't know anything about the trials and tribulations and overall what to expect. This book is written in a fun, informative, non judgmental way. Unlike 99.9% of the other new parent books I have read this book didn't create a severe panic attack in me but helped me feel more prepared, confident, excited, and open minded! I have since given this book to other pregnant friends but refuse to lend out my copy (I know I will need it as a reference when my little girl arrives next month).

An added bonus is this book's sturdy yet useful size - just right for one hand while the other is busy with baby!!

Andi Silverman has written a really down to earth breastfeeding book. The text is filled with truthful and humorous quotes from moms and interesting data points, enough to make you laugh at 3 a.m. while you're feeding. The illustrations are also very sleek, educational and entertaining.

I counsel new mothers all the time and this is the positive, easy-to-read text to help get them through some of the more practical issues that they deal with on a day-to-day basis with their babes, from figuring out how to breastfeed in public, to answering the inevitable questions about breastfeeding, to keeping connected to their partners...and Silverman does it all with flare and style.

I purchased the Mother of All Pregnancy Books and the Mother of All Baby Books for the birth of my first child. I highly recommend these books. The information on practices in Canada sets them apart from other books and made my purchasing decision easy.

I have spent hours reading and re-reading these books (when you're sleep deprived it takes a while to absorb information!). The information is current and the inclusion of comments and advice from other mothers gives it credibility. The writing style flows nicely and I appreciated the touch of humour (yes there's a "u" in humour in Canada) found throughout.

Definitely buy these books if you live in Canada and are expecting a baby. You won't regret the investment.

I bought The Mother of All Baby Books before our son was born, and found it helpful from the start. After our son arrived, I found myself checking in with Ann whenever I had questions about his health, or even my own recovery. Extremely reassuring was Douglas' more laid back approach to child development in the first year than that of the What To Expect.. series (e.g. when your child has not sat up on his or her own by 5 months, you do not need to rush to the doctor..). I highly recommend this book whether you're expecting or have just begun your journey as a parent.

This book is the only baby book you'll need to buy. It is so in depth and easy to understand. It has a lot of tables and "checklists" that are very interesting. I bought this book after I bought The Mother of All Pregnancy Books, which was awesome too. I like it so much better than the 'What to Expect' series because you can read this book straight through. After finishing this book, I wanted to buy The Mother of All Toddler Books...which is only available in the Canadian edition so far. But I think it will be available in the US soon. Do yourself a favor and buy it now!

I enjoyed reading this book, it's so easy to read and easy to understand. I found that the book talked about things other books don't even mention. The only flaw I find is that she doesn't have solutions to solving some first year baby situations but all in all, it was worth the money.

Lisa Braner has written a wonderful book that touches a deep part within all of us, whether we are a new mother or a grandparent. The wisdom contained in this small book, found on almost every page, is so universal that no one can read it and not be richer for having done so.

Her words flow effortlessly, teaching all of us that the best parts of life come in those small moments we can't plan for no matter how organized we think we are. Learning to treasure the unexpected joys that our children bring reflects a larger truth that runs its course throughout our lives.

Instead of mourning the days that are gone or anticipating the days that are yet to be, Lisa Braner gently reminds us that we have to steady our focus in the here and now because that's the only time we really have. Whether those treasured moments rest in the love light of a child's eyes or in the quiet of a garden after a soaking rain, the larger truth of her message is that we must ensure our lives maintain Balance because, as she so eloquently writes, "our most treasured memories usually hang on the edge of mere moments."

Lisa Braner provides for her readers a nourishing, cleansing and nurturing book of wisdom, broken down into manageable, bite-size pieces. Her 52 bits of sage advice take the new mother through the phases of motherhood from newborn to toddler. Even the cover evokes images of comfort: three little ducks in a sudsy bath; a baby's foot in a mother's hand; and cozy slippers resting delicately in a basket.

Braner's honest examination of motherhood left me, a two-time mother, feeling understood and, quite frankly, loved! Her thoughtful essays interweave the right amount of personal stories to give the reader the feeling that Braner has been there, too. I will never look at my "skinny jeans" in the same way; nor will I engage in negative self-talk, which so many mothers do. Her book made me want to kick back, take a guilt-free bath, and enjoy my kids as their childhoods enfold before me. Thank you, Ms. Braner, for your contribution to mothers' wellness!

Very inspirational! Perfect for new mothers!

The joy of new motherhood is often overshadowed by the need for rest, relaxation and the search for a little private time. Ah, I remember those days as though they were yesterday.

In "The Mother's Book of Well-Being," by Lisa Groen Braner, new mothers will find 52 weeks of inspirational passages, self-giving ideas and suggestions for enriching their role as a mother. Children will benefit not only from the love you give to them, but also from the love you give to yourself.

MyParenTime.com highly recommends this book - mothers will find a wealth of support and helpful suggestions on how to enrich their lives, thus enriching the lives of their children. The short passages allow just enough time for quick reads throughout the day. It's small size is perfect for carrying in your purse or a diaper bag :). New mothers, who often forget to care for themselves, will learn how to stay on the path to well-being.

Mothers Know Best is an anthology of 1,001 tips, trips, techniques, and advice tidbits concerning pregnancy, childbirth and the first year of raising a baby, all from mothers, to mothers around the world. Written in the spirit of sisterhood, Mothers Know Best offers wisdom on everything from raging emotions during pregnancy (depression is a serious concern and should not be taken lightly; meanwhile, volatile expectant mothers can help themselves feel better protect family and friends from devastating outbursts by recording rants and tirades in a journal) to the value of prenatal classes (all the reading in the world does not prepare the first-time mother or her loved one for actual childbirth) to dining out with a baby (feed the child beforehand so he/she does not become unduly hungry smelling the restaurant food) and much, much more. An extremely valuable supplementary resource for new and experienced parents alike.

As the mother of three I am always interested in books providing me with advice. This book provides the reader with opinions from people all over which for me made it unique from other books that i have read. The author does a Fabulous job grouping together information from pregnancy to post partum to infancy. I highly recommend this book not just for new moms but for those of us who are "seasoned" as well. I can't believe all the new "tricks of the trade" that I walked away with.

Wow! Great stuff!

This book is chock full o' tips and advice. It's like attending a gazillion "Mom groups" without the hassle. Every point of view is expressed and so much practical and valuable info is readily available! The book is such an easy and fun read. It's perfect if you have a busy lifestyle (as most parents do)and also perfect for those of us with short attention spans. There is nothing complicated...just straight-forward info from other people who have "been there." I will include this book in every baby shower gift from here-on-out...Mother's Day too!

My 19 month old son adores this book. We "read" it constantly and he guesses if the face is "sad baby" or "happy baby." We also play a game where he mimics the faces. It's hilarious! This is a great book, and I think that most infants and young toddlers would enjoy it.

This is a fun book of faces that I put on the perimeter of my 6 month old's play area before she started crawling. Trying to reach it was a big incentive to get her moving! It's also a great distracter during fussy moments. All in all, a nice addition to the arsenal of baby goods.

The BEST book ever to help babies stop crying! They empathize with the sad babies and seem so relieved when the babies are HAPPY!

I bought this when my son was first born and I would "read" it to him. He really enjoyed looking at all the babies. When he was older, about 8-9 months, he started picking it up himself. He could easily flip through the pictures because of it's accordion format and he loved going over and over each picture (especially the happy faces). This became THE book that always went with us in the diaper bag, on a car trip, and in the grocery cart. At 16 months he is still enjoying it!

At 9 months of age, my grandson definitely had opinions about his favorite books and this was certainly at or near the top of the list. If you picked up a book he didn't like, he would bat at it and look in the direction of other nearby books. When "Baby Faces" was selected, he would sit calmly as long as it was being read to him and even "talk" to the babies. We have several precious picture of him sitting on the floor with the book folded accordion style and "playing" with the book, trying to "turn" the pages and "talking" to the babies pictured. The book went everywhere with him and somewhere, we lost it. So we are now ordering a 2nd copy.

I bought this book while expecting our daughter, who we know faces a long stay in the NICU. This book has been an excellent primer - the text is well written and detailed enough even for a mom with a background in science and medicine. The pictures and especially the diagrams are great too! I would recommend this to anyone who anticipates or is currently dealing with a child in the NICU.

I sent this book to a friend who had her baby at 24 weeks. Needless to say, she loves it, she could not put it down that first night and is recommending it to their support group at the hospital. She tells me it has simple explanations to what she could not make head or tail of the medical jargon used by the doctors and nurses. Get it for someone you know!

THE most important resource for parents of NICU infants.

Families that experience parenthood in the newborn intensive care unit (NICU) experience a very different beginning. They often feel intense powerlessness and a lack of control. Many families will share that "it doesn't really feel like this is my baby."

This book, written by a knowledgeable and sensitive NICU nurse and her colleagues,, will help parents the journey through newborn intensive care. The book is extremely detailed and exquisitely accurate, yet easy to read. It contains a wealth of information to arm parents with the information they need to ask questions, to question answers, and to work with the health care team as a true partner in their infant's recovery.

The book is written by a group of seasoned NICU nurses who convey a sensitivity and empathy that reaches out from the pages at every turn.

As a professional advanced practice nurse, who has worked in the NICU for 20 years, I am delighted to share this resources with parents and grandparents at every turn.

Parent's are not and should not be visitors in their children's lives. Knowledge is power and this book will give you the confidence to become your babies BEST advocate.

When our son was born at 26 weeks we knew he'd spend several weeks in the NICU before coming home. This book helped us understand his progress each step of the way, and eased the transition to him coming home. It also helped explain some of what to expect in terms of potential problems, procedures, feelings, and just getting to know the NICU environment. This experience would have been much more difficult without this excellent reference guide.

Calming and Brilliant. This book saved my sanity!

This book shows the caring yet realistic way through the NICU. I ordered this book while in the hospital three weeks prior to my son's early arrival. It made more sense in the NICU, showed me what to exepct and gave me more knowledge to adequately approach my son's medical team without feeling helpless, stupid and uninformed. Being a more well-informed parents allowed us to make correct decisions and allowed us to "TRY" and worry less. This book even had experimental research in it, with which our son would not have survived. I was told of an experimental protocal our son was a candidate for and the NICU book had information on it! Technical and medical information was presented in a concise and thoughtful manner.

A friend loaned me this book early in my pregnancy. Unfortunately, I was already weighed down with other pregnancy books and didn't look at it until much later. This book provides general information on exercise, nutrition, and fetal development. IF you want more details about how the baby is developing, though, you will have to look somewhere else. It is particularly good at describing what happens during labor and many of the medical choices you have- including more options on pain relief than you are likely to be offered. I found the sections for postpartum care and taking care of the baby very helpful as well. It will get you through the first days until you have time to pick out a book on baby care.

I had three best selling pregnancy books and this one stood above the others!! I refered to it more than the others due to the content being more "facts" rather than the "stories". Any Mom may have her own way of doing things but there are basics that you just can't expect to know based on instinct and this book spells them out in easy to read sections that are well labeled for reference. It's the best and most thorough! A MUST!

I'd trade all my pregnancy books for just this one!!

Wonderful, informative, confidence builder for first time mothers. More information than a lamaze class. Helps with pregnancy, birth and parenthood decisions from every aspect of pregnancy, birth to parenthood.

This should be the number one pregnancy book!

I found Pregnancy to Parenthood "by accident" in the book store. When I got it home and started reading it, I couldn't believe how wonderful and informative it is. I have to agree with the reviewer who said she'd trade all her pregnancy books for just this one. It gave me more birth information than any of the others. And it is so clear and understandable. Now that my baby is 6 months old, it is still the one I refer to for guidance. The breastfeeding information is the best--so supportive. You can tell that these writers have "been there." I love the great photos and the cartoons too. If you are pregnant, get this one FIRST--you won't need any others!

I got this book beacuse I couldn't find what to Expect when your Expecting and I love it!! It is very helpful. I then got WTE and found that PTP had better information in most places. This book has more Medical information. I found that the other book said See your doctor or try the diet way to often. I would reccommend this book to anyone. I particularly liked the area that talks about how the baby is growing and what is happining to her/him.
