As a therapist I was looking for another resource to discuss with clients, yet this book could be read directly by clients. It is an easy read, yet has many good succinct ideas. I love the connection of the emotional bonds and barriers people have to where they are in life today!!

She provided a program to growth and help couples develop the relationship, through her seven topics.
She guides people in exploring emotions and pain, and helping couples create new communication. Also recommend other book: I Love You. Now What?: Falling in Love is a Mystery, Keeping It Isn't is the right math of this matter.

As a therapist in private practice who specializes in working with couples and an EFT trained therapist, I have found Dr. Johnson's new book an easy read as well as an effective tool for couples to work through together.

Dr. Johnson has said that taking EFT and putting it into a framework that couples can use together on their own was very challenging to do. This book is a testimony to her hard work, one couples can benefit from, if they read and do the exercises.

In the book, Dr. Johnson takes the readers through a straight forward explanation of the negative cycles most couples find themselves in. She handles the explanation of adult-attachment brilliantly and relates the concept to what happens in relationships when we get our feelings hurt. Next she has the reader re-work a difficult moment in their relationship and through this demonstrates her principals and some key interventions that are used in therapy with an EFT therapist.

While buying and reading the book along with completing the exercises may not be equal to actually working through therapy with an EFT therapist, for those wanting a solid relationship check up or tune up, or those wanting to work on their own, Hold Me Tight is an easy and effective way to go. If you are looking for a self help couples book, you won't be disappointed.

This book is easy to read, and most will recognise themselves more than once in the featured couples. The author has developed a very effective method for dealing with problems that haunt most couples. There are many "conversations" to have with your partner to excercise the skills outlined in the book. I highly recommend to any couple, especially those that have the same arguments over and over that never get resolved.

In Why Struggle?: Life Is Too Short To Wear Tight Shoes, Barbara Faison encourages her reader to accept their lives for the unpredictable journeys they are, to slow down, to watch a child, and to create an adventure of their own. Faison's insightful suggestions are food for thought to nourish the spirit and call our attention to life as a celebration. Why Struggle? is a "reader friendly" and highly recommended compendium of words of wisdom on self-discovery, acceptance, forgiveness, and other principles essential to leading a successful, rewarding, balanced life.

An extremely short read that packs a lot of punch. Why Struggle is a book that is small enough to keep in your purse or back pocket and carry around each and every day. The text is easy to read and easy to comprehend and forces you to take a critical look at yourself in bite sized pieces. Ms. Faison touches upon the most important parts of the human psyche: To Live, To Love, To Learn, To Grow and To Share. Each page has an exercise to perform that helps the reader reach further into themselves to discover more about what makes them a better person in society.
There were several "ah ha" moments in this books for me, things that I just hadn't thought about in that way the information is presented. Naturally curious as I am, this only makes me want to share this book with friends. I liken the discovery of the action filled book with a beautifully wrapped present that one can't wait to open. An Example that I found to be pertinent to my life is the affirmation "I speak with power and Purpose". Sometimes its necessary to be quiet. To quote from this book: There are many times no response is required. Be cautious with your words and save your comments for those who will value what you say. The exercise: Give your next conversation your undivided attention. Turn your body to the person, look them in the eyes and open your ears to their words. Pause for 3 seconds before responding. If a response in not required, say nothing. For a person who is always eager to share an opinion, whether solicited or not, this is pertinent to my life and something that I will carry forth with me. This book is filled with epitaphs that are compact enough to be retained indefinitely.
Take this book with you, in your mind or on your physical person, you can't go wrong with it. A perfect gift for those in your circle of friends.

I heard her speak and bought her book. She lives what she has written. Barbara has captured in a simple and straight forward manner, the how to "BE" your own person. This book is a quick read, but once read, it becomes a constant source for those "..tight shoes moments" we all have. I keep my copy on my desk and when I feel hassled or stressed out. I open my book and have a reality check with Barbara's "right on target" comments. After that, I do one of Barbara's thinking and action exercises. I find my attitude shifts back to "being Me" and I get right out of those "tight shoes." Barbara, thanks for your help. When's your next book coming out?

This novel is riveting from start to finish. Marie, the teenage protagonist is so well drawn and compelling, I had to stay with her to the end.

There are few contemporary novels which cross genres so effectively, and this one did just that. Not only is it a literary story filled with georgeous language, it's a horror story too. Brown Davidson does not shrink from exploring all the dark corners of what Marie must endure. Like the best of Stephan King, Brown Davidson forces us to experience the unspeakable. And it makes for an unforgettable read. As a literary novel, comparisons can be made to Janet Fitch's "White Oleander." Both present powerful female adolescent protagonists who must live by their wits.

Plan ahead. You won't put this book down until you finish it.

Reviewed by Katie Weekley for Small Spiral Notebook

Within the few chapters of debut novel, Marie, Marie, Hold on Tight, Terri Brown-Davidson wallops the reader with the two big tragedies of her narrator: the death of her baby sister, Alyssa Ellen, and the ongoing abuse by her mother. What else could possibly happen that could keep us reading? Even Marie seems incapable of imagining any change or improvement in her life. She seems to turn to her boyfriend, Dell for help, telling him:

"I love you too," I say softly, tracing his cheek with one finger. "But if you tell anyone about my mother, I promise I'll never speak to you again."

I know he believes me because he shuts up quickly, not angry but despairing: I'm excellent at reading emotions - Momma's given me years of practice.

Marie has spent the years since Alyssa's death, tiptoeing on the edge, nervously anticipating any change in her mother's mood, yet loyally standing by, defying anyone who says she deserves to be treated better. Marie understands the restlessness of her mother, the woman who before clocking in at the meat-packing plant every day, sits gazing out at a field of rippling veldt, only able to escape in her mind, and only for a few hours a day. Marie fears she may be cursed with the same wanderlust, impossible to fulfill.

Terri Brown-Davidson's writing is as taut as the fine tightrope Marie is walking. In a situation where the protagonist seems to have no hope for change, Brown-Davidson manages to maintain a gripping narrative, densely weaving Marie's past and present. Brown-Davidson has previous published a book of poetry, and while this influence is evident in her lyrical, visual style, she has deftly matched the richness of her writing with an cold, economic presentation of events, telling us exactly what we need to know about Marie.

This novel is about the dead-end cycle of abuse, and how difficult it is to escape the damage done. And although it is not a happy story, it is strangely optimistic, because only when Marie is faced with the worst situation yet, does she find the strength in herself to believe that she does not have accept the same destiny as her mother.

A remarkable tale of light amidst darkness

Terri Brown-Davidson is such a masterful writer that you're reminded of the power of words on every stunning page. But she's more than a poet of language and imagery. She's an artist of the human psyche. It's a dark tale about a girl who suffers the most horrific abuse and is unable to escape. And yet, there's a light in this child that can't be extinguished. Her secret world of hope revolves first around art, and then a young man who falls in love with her and sees the beauty of her soul. So as dark and haunting as this book is, it ultimately tells the tale of that vital spark of humanity that stays lit even in the direst circumstances. To me, "Marie, Marie, Hold on Tight" is a book about hope.

Terri Brown-Davidson's Marie, Marie, Hold on Tight

Review Date: 2004-11-09
Terri Brown-Davidson's haunting first novel Marie, Marie, Hold On Tight, dark as a Grecian tragedy, illuminates the twisted relationships of the beautiful, but unstable, Jennifer Prescott and her daughters, Marie and Alyssa.

When Dan, Jennifer's lowlife poster-boy of a lover, returns after a six-year absence and takes over, teen-aged Marie, the gifted, but alienated, anguished - and inescapably unreliable - narrator must face the disarray and grief of her childhood; and confront her own crime as well as the inexplicable crimes of her wayward mother; a mother often indifferent and careless of her daughters, yet magical:

But then, we all loved the globe. Worshipped the globe, as well as Momma's animation that resulted from her playing with it. She'd spin it with one elegant nail, slam the finger down on a continent before it slowed. We'd squeal, excited as she was when it paused, though we knew that most times Momma cheated, tried to make it stop on Africa.

The writing is tight -- evocative, compelling -- it's difficult to select a sentence to convey the effect. Perhaps the following paragraph wherein Marie, convinced she is herself ugly (despite signs the blight is ending), knows her mother is beautiful, a view reinforced by the reactions of strangers:

"We glide through double doors, Momma preceding me, and eyes - many eyes - move toward her emerald-suited splendor; just loud enough for me to detect, a man murmurs to his wife, "My God: what hair," and I sense Momma grinning beside me, pleased beyond reason as she tosses snack after snack into the shopping cart--"

Haven't you known women like Jennifer, women who shop as greedily as they devour attention? But Jennifer is inscrutible, complex; and like the best of mothers tries to prepare Marie for life by taking her along not only to the market but to more than one workplace:

". . . at the Kawasaki factory . . . hunched over a table littered with bolts, screws, her shoulders bent into an "S" as she worked along the conveyer-belt, her fingers spasming, sweating as she struggled to keep up . . . the other women older, fatter, coarse, their faces lined with grime, their gray hair tucked into spiderweb nets, their faces forced blossomings of moles, sun-toughened skin: they hated my mother because she was young - because she was beautiful - . . . shoes tapped out the rhythms of "Hound Dog" as they sang and joked and laughed, their fat fingers never missing a screw; and when Mother sagged over the conveyer belt, her knees buckling, the teasing increased, the vitriol sharpened, shouts of "Prescott, Prescott, where're your balls?" filled the long gray room, and still the belt rolled over, rolled on as Momma quietly fainted and two tough, muscular women stepped in hastily, pulled her away from the line."

Marie reasons her mother's gallant efforts to stay afloat are a way of apologizing - although for what is going on at home there can be no apology - of demonstrating she can do no better and the unspoken hope Marie will have a better life than her own or that of Alyssa, of whom neither can bear to think. Jennifer's job at the abattoir is clearly the end of the line as far as financial independence goes.

"The meat-packing plant is huge and square and gray, like an enormous box that leaks sweat, water trickling down its outer walls. There are some windows set into the box, but they show only an inner darkness, shadowy shapes, people moving within, so quiet they might, themselves, be a dream. Steam rises from several pipes that push up like thick fingers from the roof of the plant. Grabbing Momma's hand as we approach, I feel a weird excitement though Momma doesn't look pleased."

And Marie will have a better life, if she can get past the horrific scene six years ago when Dan left. If she can come to terms with her mother's subsequent actions. If she can stay with Dell, the young poet who is her soul mate, and whose love may help her escape the past to become the artist she is meant to be.

Marie, Marie Hold On Tight
by Terri Brown-Davidson

Terri Brown-Davidson's novel Marie, Marie Hold On Tight is not for the squeamish and should, perhaps, have been titled, Reader, Reader, Hold On Tight. But, despite the depths of depravity that are explored a shaft of light shines througout the novel. Marie's is a story of cruelty, insanity, incest, and murder. Her's is also a story of love and survival. A reader with courage will know and understand Marie and hope, maybe pray, that she will endure. Read this book and be rewarded. Mrs. Brown-Davidson's writing is poetry disguised as prose.

Five stars.

Our 21 month old son loves reading this book, both at bedtime and anytime we are reading together. It starts with Elmo at the park with his Dad, and they head home to get ready for bed. Along the way, Elmo sees different Sesame Street Monsters getting ready for bed by brushing their teeth, jumping on the bed, reading to their teddy bears, etc. Everyone is getting ready for bed, and at the end, it's Elmo who is fast asleep in his bed. This is a wonderful bed time storybook, but note it's paper pages not a boardbook so be careful with toddlers who like to grab pages.

My 17 month old usually has a hard time settling down at bedtime. She adores the Sesame Street characters, especially Elmo, and we read this book just before tucking her in and turning out the light. Elmo and Big Bird and their friends are getting ready for bed, and showing them all sleeping helps my little girl to accept bedtime a little more readily, since anything Elmo does is automatically cool!

It has cute illustrations of animal mommies and daddies putting their babies to sleep, with rhymes about each one. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Apparently written for single parents, this bedtime story shows single animals putting their offspring to sleep. Despite the lightbulb-headed, look-alike animal illustrations, my two year old loves this book and it's been a favorite of his for almost a year. I like it because it doesn't tire me out; all of the illustrations span two pages, so this 24-page book reads more like a 12-pager. (Those of you who love your child more than 12 pages worth might consider the 72 page Green Eggs and Ham as an alternative). London-based author/illustrator Dawn Apperley has illustrated dozens of children's books. To find a title you may have missed on Amazon, search also under the misspelled "Dawn Apperly."

Overall, the book is very soothing and a perfect "last book" at bedtime. When my son is ready to go to bed, he lets me know by saying "Night Night Little Bunnies" and going to get this book off his bookshelf, ready for storytime! We have quite a collection of good children's books, but this is one of the very best for bedtime reading.

High and Tight is a tried and true page-turner, an excellent sociological study of two rising urban stars who found that life in the big apple was too much for them to handle. The book also reveals some interesting stories concerning the other members of the 1986 Mets, a team divided in two camps-bible beaters and party animals.

HIGH AND TIGHT could have been one of those works that is closer to an overblown magazine article than a full-fledged book. But author Bob Klapisch keeps the pages turning, and it's over quicker than a 1985 at-bat against Dwight Gooden and, unlike that at-bat, leaves you wanting more. The new book HEAT by Gooden and Klapisch serves as a part two for Doc. With Darryl Strawberry's Yankees comeback and subsequent health challenges, can yet another entry be far off?

Having grown up and watching Darryl Strawberry and Dwight Gooden shine for the Big Apple's "other team," I was initially afraid to read this book. I was afraid of the brutal honesty that I would encounter and about tarnishing the images of my two childhood heroes. I was right, the book is brutaly honest, yet so captivating, I really couldn't put it down. The book follows the careers of the two men from thier days growing up to their darkest hours. I really enjoyed watching both players before I read the book, but after reading it, I feel as though I know them personally and was right there with them during all of the incidents that took place. I respect these two men so much for having conqured their demons. Nothing they acomplish on the field could ever equal the magnitude of the personal victories that they have attained. Kudos to author Bob Klapisch for capturing the reader's attention with his captive descriptions of the players' individual situations.

This book is wonderful! It's about Sierra before graduation. She goes on a trip to Southern California with her brother and a few of her best friends. She decides to go to the same place as her brother, a private christian college where her friends Christy Miller, And Todd are also going. She still writes to Paul. This is an awesome book! I recomend it!

This was one of my favourite Sierra books because she goes college hunting to California and sees her friends from England. If you're obsessed with the Christy Miller series, you'll love this Sierra instalment. Robyn Jones Gunn is my favourite author-I own almost all her books. I started reading her books in grade 5 and I still love them and am in grade 12. Anyway, this is a really fun Sierra. Peace out.

This book covers all aspects of dating from the author's perspective and some statistical informaiton. Out of all the other online dating books that I have bought so far, this one is the most valuable.

I'm new to online dating and had no idea where to begin. I decided to read a few books regarding the subject matter and for the most part they all contain useful information. Slow and Tight is definitely a guy's book from a guy's point of view. What I like about it is that it's very direct and informative. No beating around the bush. It's short, sweet, and to the point.

This book gives you everything you need to know on how get started. What to put in your profile. What to put in your contact letters. What not to bring up in conversation, etc. They say "practice makes perfect" and "initiating the conversation is half the battle". The author of Slow and Tight has been there and done that with years of experience and research. Bottom line, he knows what works and what doesn't.

I highly recommend online dating but trust me it can be difficult. It doesn't hurt having a book / coach to help guide you through the process. By following these steps I've been on more first dates and less rejections. It works! You just have to put these steps into action. Overall, this is a very good book and easy to understand giving you the fundamentals to be successful at online dating.

This guide has so much great stuff in it - you can start using it immediately. It really is a step-by-step guide to having success on internet dating sites like Match and eHarmony. You can tell its written by a "real guy" too, not some person who's just trying to explain how the websites work, but rather how normal people can succeed on them! The system really makes sense, and the book has great examples and templates that be used for profiles, emails, etc. I only wish I would have found this sooner - for less than the cost of one month Match membership, I ended up with about 4 times as many dates than I had before!

It get's to the point of what most of us Guys are Really Looking for

This book is great! What I liked about it is the fact that it was written for the "real guy". This is not some sappy "find your true love" online book. If you are an E-Harmony kind of person then this book is not for you. But If you are a guys guy and you want better results with meeting the women you want to have sexual relations with, then this book is perfect.

I thought when Stevie did that prank on Chad was funny. I wasn't surprised that Stevie got grounded. I could tell that when Chad and his stinky friend put whipped-cream in Stevie's brand-new boots she was firery mad. And when Carole and Lisa rubbed garden dirt on Belle's coat I thought Chad wouldn't fall for the colic prank! But he did. My favorite part was when Carole and Lisa fed Belle human foods and drinks! I recommend this book to you if you like horses- that's why I gave this book 5 stars.

This book is great! It kept me on the edge of my seat laughing. The pranks are unbelievable and hilarious. My favorite part was when Judy (the vet) gave Belle a tranquilizer and she got all whoozy and out of control. Chad came over and saw Belle acting weird and got worried. I totally recommend this book. It's great!

I loved it!

It's such an amusing book. Fans of the Saddle Club will get a kick out of Stevie Lake's pranks on her brother. When she gets grounded, you'll love the way Lisa Atwood aand Carole Hanson think like Stevie, and come up with a prank to get her ungrounded.

Steivie Lake gets grounded once again and Carole and Lisa have to try and get Stevie ungrounded so that she can go to summer camp. Lisa and Carole decide that the best way to get Stevie ungrounded is to scare Chad. But does this method work? This is an exciting adventure and an excellent read. I recommend it to any horse lovers.
