Great Romantic Ideas

Review Date: 2004-02-07
I've read other romantic ideas books and although they were good, this one was the best. I liked it because it was easy to find what I was looking for. I'm an older man, 68 years old and have been with the same woman for the last 20 years. We had forgotten how to romance each other. We have used some of the date ideas and the bath ideas, and have even learned some new kissing techniques. This book has really helped put a spark back in our lives.

Although Not a Lot of Invisible Action, This is a Very Good Book!
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-04-27
A school class checks out the Museum of Little Horrors. Feeling they've been ripped off and with no staff around they start playing with and making fun of the exhibits. These include the title of the story, the socks worn by the invisible man which is the product that drove the class over the edge in the first place. It is only when Michael Pensley picks up the socks and claims they are real that the class still unbelieving the exhibits are real are pulled into line by their teachers (who joined in the bad behaviour). That evening each child or teacher exhibits symptoms of the exhibit they touched and ridiculed (belonging to werewolf, vampire, mummy, medusa, cannibal, Frankenstein's monster, cyclops, strangler etc). A very good, funny and decent length book that will satisfy adults as well as children. The poison pen cursed child, Veronica Miller has the funniest scenes as she writes thank you notes to relatives who have given her cheap and bad gifts, Alex Shearer could have written an entire novel on this character alone (and maybe he will one day).

This book kind of reminds me of the great Groosham Grange series by Anthony Horrowitz I read as a kid and if you liked this I highly recommend reading those if you haven't.

With heaps of kids though, invisible action is not large percentage of the overall story if invisible man related action was what you were after but for fans of that genre I still recommend getting this as the book is that good. If you want good fiction stories about being invisible the best two novels are Memoirs of an Invisible Man by H. F. Saint, Smoke by Donald E Westlake. These two books are adult fiction and maybe a bit above the reading level of some kids.

If junior fiction is all your looking for then the best of this genre are My Best Friend Is Invisible (Goosebumps) by R. L. Stine, You Are Invisible: CYOA #48 by Susan Saunders, The Invisible Day by Marthe Jocelyn, Frankenstein Makes a Sandwich by Adam Rex, you can even get an illustrated version of H.G. Wells 1897 classic The Invisible Man (Great Illustrated Classics).

How to Retain Your Customers with Tact and Diplomacy
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-01-05
Customers expect to be treated with courtesy and respect. And most are quite polite themselves. But sometimes, customers can be so blunt or denigrating that you or your employees may start to feel offended and upset. Regardless of your own feelings, it's best to respond with tact and diplomacy.

If a rude customer catches you off guard, it can be hard to think fast enough on your feet to respond effectively. The solution is to try to anticipate the kinds of remarks they might make, and consider in advance how to reply. This book steps you through that process. It describes numerous possible customer service interactions, and explains how best to handle them - and why. As you read about one awkward situation after another, you'll find the book quite entertaining.

Adding to the fun is a section at the end that lists some really peculiar questions that have been asked by actual customers. There is also a section on how to behave as tactful customer yourself, and thereby motivate the best possible customer service for your own benefit.

If you are involved in front-line sales, customer service, or supervision, this book should help you handle a broad variety of awkward situations, and reduce the amount of stress you experience in your dealings with customers.

I have been in the hotel business for 11 years and this has given myself and my staff a new attitude toward our guests--the people that pay our salaries.

I read the entire book in a day off, highlited like crazy and was psyched to go back and share many of the ideas with my staff!

Kudos...I really enjoyed it :)

Sock Monkey Rules

Review Date: 2008-03-25
I've had one of Tony Millionnaire's licensed Sock Monkey stuffed animals sitting in the front seat of my truck for years, and everyone loves him. Why? Because he is Sock Monkey!

Granted, I make the point that this is "Tony Millionnaire's Sock Monkey," also known as "Uncle Gabby," to be precise, but it doesn't matter. A sock monkey in the cab of a pickup truck is all that anyone in the world desires, and so be it.

Nonetheless, buy this book, and all of Tony Millionnaire's other Sock Monkey books.

Why? Because they are bursting with the kind of odd whimsey, angst, and weirdness that make it worthwhile to keep a Sock Monkey in the cab of your pickup truck to begin with. How do you think I wound up with Uncle Gabby as my co-pilot for all of these years? I mean, Geez, I'm taking my life into my hands!

I mean, Geez, you know? Uncle Gabby Rules! Get over anything else distracting you from it!

Absolutely fun little blank book that the giftee loved and will definitely use. The wrap around stretchy band to securely close the book is fun and practical, and the back cover is as fun as the front. If you love sock monkeys, you'll love this book.

smooth easy read w/juvenile intrigue & Christian values
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2006-09-07
I ran across Elspeth Campbell Murphy's 30 book Three Cousins Detective Club series when I was looking for easy reader chapter books for my 7 1/2 yr old 2nd grade daughter. The Mystery of the Sock Monkeys (#21) paperback just happened to be where we started. The 62 pages are divided into 15 chapters, and the print is medium, not tiny. There are occasional black & white sketch illustrations. Piggybacking on the Young Cousins Mysteries series for ages 4-8, the Three Cousins Detective Club series is categorized as for ages 9-12, but is fine for a younger confident reader who just needs help on the occasional difficult word. The Christian author ties each volume to a Bible verse, & weaves Christian values into the stories. On a wkend vacation, I started reading it to my daughter. She was instantly captivated by the characters & story, & quickly began reading it on her own. 10 yr old cousins, Sarah-Jane, Timothy, & Titus are always alert to suspicious situations ,& thrive on following clues to conclusion. In #21, it occurs to them that the rough tough looking & acting motorcycle rider Spider Marley does not seem like the kind of guy who would be frequenting fabric & handicraft shops, or helping out his seamstress aunt. They unravel the real truth behind this interesting character. The stories are entertaining & wholesome & elementary school age appropriate. We will definitely read more, & see about donating some to school & local public libraries.
