I bought this book before I'd ever knitted any socks. I didn't actually think that I could knit socks because most books make them seem so complicated. Not this one. It's a wonderful, friendly book and the patterns are clear and easy to follow. My daughter liked the pictures so much she's learned how to knit now too.

We LOVE Bobbie Hinman's first book, The Knot Fairy. When The Sock Fairy came out we rushed right out to buy it! My children now have TWO favorite books! The Sock Fairy is beautifully written and Kristi Bridgeman's illustrations are truly magical. This book is a must-have for anyone who has ever lost a sock!

An exuberant, joyful children's book

The Sock Fairy is a combination picturebook and audio CD that brings to life the magical world of fairies. The whimsically illustrated story about a mischievous little fairy who is responsible for lost, mismatched, or fraying socks (he uses them to decorate his home) is warmly narrated on the CD. Also on the CD are a fairy song to the tune of "Eensy Weensy Spider", and "The Sock Fairy has taken my socks!" An exuberant, joyful children's book especially recommended for young people who believe in fairies.

Once again, thanks to Amazon.com, I had a good experience when I ordered "Sock It To 'Em Tigers." The order was handled in a timely manner and the book arrived in "NEW" condition as stated.

Best Book Available on 68 Detroit Tigers

If the 1968 Detroit Tigers were "your team" growing up, as they were for me in the fourth grade, then you absolutely have to have this book. If you think you know everything there is to know about the 68 Tigers, then you must get this book because you don't know everything there is to know about this team, the last true regular season American League champion (in 1969 they went to divisional play). The book looks (in incredible detail) at every player, coach, manager, and broadcaster who was part of this World Series championship team. When I say EVERY player, I mean every player. If they had just one at-bat, they're in the book. If they pitched just one-third of an inning, they're in the book. Between the biographies of each person, there are summaries of every game the Tigers played in the 1968 season. One criticism: along with the game summaries, I would have liked the box scores of each game and a weekly summary of the standings. Remember, the Detroit newspapers were on strike for much of the 1968 season and this type of detail does not exist in one volume. The book also has a feature on Tiger Stadium (R.I.P. old friend) and some nice photos in the middle. Each player profile has a photo, the 1968 Topps baseball card for that player or coach. This book is far superior to Jerry Green's "Year of the Tiger," and much less expensive than that rare book (if you can even find one). No question, your Detroit Tiger library is not complete until you read this fine book. Now, if it only came with one final hot dog, mustard only applied with a wooden stick, from a vendor in Tiger Stadium. Alas...

This little book is packed with a huge amount of character and creativity. The sock monkeys have a loveable humor and sincerity that comes from the hearts and fingers of all the many people who sewed them. The pictures are nice on the eyes because the colors are rich and beautiful and the textures of the yarns and fabrics are touchable. This book is being loved by everyone in my entire family. It's a great book.

The photos of the sock monkeys are like colorful portraits of relatives and friends; my six-year-old is convinced that one of the photos is of his big brother's best friend, Calder. He's also sure that another photo of a somewhat stern looking monkey is absolutely and unequivocally our (meanish) neighbor down the street. Our 15-year-old is entranced with the outlandish outfits that some of the monekys are sporting. The book is a perfect size and has the look and feel of a marvelously kooky schoolbook from my childhood.
I tried to get the 2008 sock monkey calendar by Arne Svenson and Ron Warren, but it was sold out by the time I ordered. This time I didn't wait. I just bought multiples of the book and am putting them away as fun gifts for the holidays.

This book has delighted my children and the children of a friend as well.
It has a sense of wonderment to it and it explains the changes of light through the seasons. We actually bought a glass doorknob and a sock monkey after reading the book.

A very gentle, innocent side of Tony Millionaire

I've been a fan of Tony Millionaire's for over 10 years now. I've always enjoyed his bizarre, sick sense of humor and his preoccupation with gore, suicide, and alcoholism. Now that I have an 18-month-old child, I would never dream of showing him any of Tony's "Maakies" strips or adult work.

This book, though... this book is something wonderful and different. I hate the word "enchanting," since it's overused for all kinds of treacly, mass-marketed junk, but this book is, yes, enchanting. It pulls my son in like no book ever has. In fact, I think this is the first narrative (story-telling) book he's ever been interested in. I've read it to him at least 50 times, and still he keeps requesting it.

The story is so simple and sweet that even the youngest child can understand the rudiments of it. Synopsis: One day, the four characters (including Sock Monkey and The Crow, the innocent stuffed-doll versions of Uncle Gabby and Drinky Crow) see a rainbow projected on the floor from a glass doorknob. The next day, it's gone. They collect every glass object in the house and place them all near the doorknob to "boost its power," to no avail. Then one morning the sun shines through the doorknob again, and "GAD-ZOOKS!" The room is full of rainbows! My son is a little too young to understand the rather subtle cause of the rainbow's disappearance, which is implied but never stated, but I think older children will get it.

The best part of the book for adults is the amazing illustrations, full of sly wit. For anyone who's ever enjoyed the interior of a beautiful turn-of-the-century house, the details of molding, fixtures, and built-in cabinets are absolutely stunning, down to a 30's-style "push-button" light switch on the wall.

I can't believe no one has reviewed this book before me, but I recommend you get it and enjoy the sweet mysteries of childhood with your little one. Then come back and write your own review and spread the word.

A story you'll never forget, read it to your children

I gave this to my 15 year daughter before I had a chance to read it. She came down from her room later with a tear in her eye, but with a deeper understanding of the true meaning of Christmas. It will touch your heart and it will make you laugh, truely a story for all ages. I'm almost fifty and the pictures of the retro toys are great. Put this one away with "The Night Before Christmas", in the box with the Christmas decorations. You'll want to make reading it a Christmas tradition, whether you read it yourself or listen to Andy on the CD, it's a great way to kick off the season.

'Tube-sock Tricks, and 101 Other Tips for RVing Success' gives you just that; 101 RV and pet travel tips as well as things you can do with tube socks aside from wearing them. There are `essential first timer tips' and `doggy tips' sprinkled throughout. The tube sock tricks are put in black boxes so you can't miss them. The last several pages are blank for you to add more tips you learn along the way.

The writing style of 'Tube-sock Tricks' is very engaging. The tips given are practical and useful to RVers and others who travel. Several refer to others listed later on, which encourages you to continue reading.
The illustrations are delightful and capture the essence of what Chaucer is telling you with great humor. He leads you through the book with a cute picture of himself that let you know what page you are on. Asterisks followed by a tiny illustration at the bottom of the page let you know if the tip is for newbies or dog owners. Some of the tips are common sense things for seasoned travelers but invaluable for beginners.

Having been a soccer mom, camper, currently a live-aboard sailor and a future RVer, I found 'Tube-sock Tricks, and 101 Other Tips for RVing Success' to be chock full of good ideas. This is a great gift and a must have for anyone setting out on an adventure, whether by RV or boat.

We just bought a new RV this year. As previous tent campers we are so green at RVing it is funny. Along comes Tube-Sock Tricks. A funny and yet very useful book for the new RVer. Great tips for outfitting your RV for the first time. Several of these tips are worth thousands of dollars! (Putting down the awing for instance! Must remember to do that!) My kids even read it and got some useful tips. A great house warming gift for the new RVer!

A Catcher In The Rye for today, only written by actual teen

I have known this author since he was a young man. He is 18 now, and has never had any experience with writing a novel, and I was surprised at how well it turned out. He didn't edit much, and he didn't think it out--he just wrote until he made his point. I've known Sam most of his life, and was shocked at what happened to the character he is based on in this story, but we all make mistakes!! His voice is so real, and if you ever meet this young man, he speaks the same way in real life--he speaks nothing but truth. Good luck, Sam!! --J

The book is so down to earth when dealing with teens and their issues. When reading it all i can think about is how much he went through and how tough it all was. I recommend this book for anyone who is looking for some good laughs, drama, and a darn good book.

This was (still is) my favorite calendar of 2008 - and now I've ordered multiple copies to share for 2009! The beautiful color photos and very human expressions of these sock monkeys are all it takes to brighten up any day. Each one is like looking into the soul of a dear friend. There will be a space on my wall for Arne Svenson's Sock Monkey photos for years to come!
