What a fun and creative look at our former White House incumbants, ie. Buddy and Socks. Their view of life on Pennsylvania Ave. is not only enlightening, but highly entertaining! This book would make a great gift for anyone, no matter what political viewpoint or persuation they might be. It is a fun read--a great party or get-together icebreaker.

I saw this book in the book store and had to get it just because of the title. When I read it to my son I was pleasently surprised how cute it was. At the end you find out you can sing along using the tune to "On Top of Old Smokey"...short, but very cute.

great book!

I am so glad I bought this book. The instructions are clear for a new sock knitter and it gives great ideas and fast knits to the knitter who is familiar with sock construction. Note: Most of this books socks are knit on size 4-6 needles.

Micheal and Norman's giant sock eating plants are
needed for Dr. Sparks' space expieriment because
some younger sock eating plants couldn't be trained
to pick up trash soon enough. Sending Stanly(one plant)
into space with astronots and Fluffy(the other plant)
away for ground testing causes a hillarious adventure
for everyone.

Put a Sock In It Percy is excellently funny. Have you ever heard of a Flattering Foot Wiper a Self Making Bed or even a Trouble free Tea Maker. If not meet Mr and Mrs Fooby lartil 2 inventors. One day Mr Fooby latril picks up a cat in the pond. The couple call him Percy after Mrs Fooby lartils uncle. Percy ate some mixture of glue. And he starts to talk far too much that he can't stop. With a lot of excitment with Percy, Mr and Mrs Fooby - lartil, The Grimbotts, The Town Clerk and The Mayor, this is so funny you'll laugh so much your neck will hurt!

Deeva, my 8 year old brought this book from school a few days ago. Mehr (7 years old) read the first few lines and she could not get enough of it. Of course the rivalry between Deeva and Mehr who both enjoy reading was not unusual.

Deeva and Mehr found this book an easy, humorous and very entertaining read. Both read the book twice and the term 'put a sock in it' has become commonplace in our household.

Based on their enthusiasm I picked up the book (commited to science, technology and innovation) and even I found the book amazingly amusing, entertaining and some of the inventions described in the book are definitely food for thought. The exploits of the two inventors and Percy are outrageous enough that the politically unacceptable parts of the book were seen as only part of a fantasy story by both my children and therefore it was considered harmless. I refer to Percy stealing food from their neighbours for a meal for the three of them.

The story is broken up into chapters which are long enough to maintain continuity but short enough so that it is not an onerous task for a seven year old.

Deeva and Mehr are looking forward to reading other books by Judy Corbalis which we will obtain shortly.

Entertaining memoir

It isn't stated as such but this book read like a memoir by the author. It tells the story from her point of view at times of a year in her life that finds her the head of her department at a women's college near Dallas, Texas. It involves amusing encounters with and about her students, her lover (who is a hotel owner and heiress as well as law student in California) of several years, her brother, her twin sister and her parents.

The delightful story is a quick read, perfect for a summer day or cold winter night. The book offers character insights and events that hold the readers attention til the last page.

If you're a fan of Dani O`Connors "A Poem For What`s Her Name" then this is a must-read! Actually a branch-off located between chapters four and five of "A poem ...", "Same Socks Marriage" continues the story of Doc and Sam, their romance, their emotional coalescense, their dealing with major life crises. The story is completed by adding another couple's amazing and twisted love story. Here once again D.O.C. impresses with her superb witty and highly entertaining writing style, thus creating lovable and realistic characters you wish to meet for a hang-out! Well worth reading!

The story and illustrations in this book are wonderful. My 3 year old boy likes to make facial expressions of the characters as we read the book together. I use this story when my boy says that he is scared of monsters. It is a very fun book to read over and over again.

This book is fun!!!

This is the second book we have read by Kathryn Otoshi and we love it!!! This story has stimulated a lot of creative imaginative play in our home; resulting in a lot of fun and laughter. In the end, Simon overcomes his fears, and feels really good about himself. It's a great book, with a great lesson, without ever trying to be preachy. I can't wait for Ms. Otoshi's next book!!!

Leaving a lasting impression

Review Date: 2007-05-22
As a Whitman student who was fortunate enough to know Bob Burgess, I thoroughly enjoyed his daughter's engrossing story of his background--of which I knew nothing until I read her book. A charter member of the "Greatest Generation," Burgess overcame hardships both personal (loss of his father at an early age and the derision of his teachers) and economic (the Great Depression) and went on to serve his country with distinction in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

When the war was over, he married and began the distinguished coaching career that would last for decades and leave a lasting imprint on countless numbers of young men. No doubt he would have had a similar impact on young women but he was largely retired by the time Title IX began gaining traction.

And he was much more than a coach. He was genuinely concerned with every aspect of his athletes' development. Bob Burgess was a "Good Man" in every sense of the word and this affectionate account deserves a wide audience.

Heartfelt memoir

Great storytelling by Patricia Burgess, bolstered by letters and thoughts from the many men and women who knew Coach Robert 'Bob' Burgess.

A tale that encapsulates his entire lifespan, with the highs and lows that can be expected with a time in the Navy, coaching, raising a family and dealing with a college's changing environment.

Any coaches needing inspiration should read this to know that despite wins and losses, despite long odds or small schools, you can still reach the kids.

And to Coach Burgess, that's what really mattered. Connecting with people.
