This was a wonderful story of a particular woman in the WAC during WWII. The book details her life leading to this and through
the duration of her assignment in the WAC. This book offers great insight into the world of WACs during WWII. The story gives
its readers information of historical significance as well as providing some well placed humor. Overall this was a very good
read and I reccomend it to anyone in search of a good read.

"Men in Skirts" was well written and an eye opener to the realities of war. It tells of the men who gave their lives in
the Korean War, a useless war, so much like the Vietnam War...the forgotten wars. The memories of that war must still be
vivid in the authors mind today.

This book really helped me get to the heart of gender and belief issues. I am now more careful about how I carry myself. I
can make or break my husband's reputation in this culture. I loved gaining the wisdom from one book that took years for the
author to attain. Thanks

Recently, I checked this book out of our local public library. I have been sewing for nearly all of my life (and long since
became a grandma), so I am not that easily impressed with most books on the subject; however, this book has "blown me away."
It contains some 223 pages, packed, literally packed, with drawing after drawing showing precisely how to make or alter patterns
to achieve the type of garment desired. It is easy to understand why this book is a required text in some fashion design
programs. If you want to go beyond the basics of sewing (i.e. piecing together patterns) and delve into fashion design, basic
and somewhat advanced, then consider adding this book to your home library as I plan to do. If the price tag seems a little
daunting to you, see if you can preview a copy through your local library; I believe you will count it as time well spent.

This book is engaging, funny, and poignant. I felt like I was there in the early 1940s, living in Caroline Morrison's shoes,
as she adjusted to the changes WWII forced on everyone living in the US. The book is full of wonderful stories and characters,
both famous and ordinary. Even if you don't love history, this is a must-read.

The heroine of Ted's Favorite Skirt is a hoops-shooting, Madame Bovary-reading American kid trying to figure it all out.
As we follow Billie in and out of love, limning with her the edges of despair and hope, Warsh leads us deep into the "hum
of human machinery", a territory where all but essentials are weeded out. Part bildungsroman, part commentary on American
life in the 80s, Ted's Favorite Skirt is a trenchant, lovely wonder. --Laird Hunt , author of The Impossibly

This book introduces the animals in the zoo in a funny and cute way. And at the end of the book, there is a happy luau for
baby's first birthday, a tradition celebrated in Hawaii. And don't forget to look for all the interesting places of Honolulu
in the clever illustrations by the artist. This is a great book for all ages.

Tusiata Avia gives voice to a lot of Pacific Islanders, but most of all to women who live in a realm totally outside of suburban
mom or yuppie or other modern western lives.
Unfamiliar sounds and voices and accents resonate from her short, quite amazing poems.
Donna Tusiata Avia is gaining fame as a superb performer, an excellent poet, and something of a visionary. She has inspired a number of women poets and songwriters in her native New Zealand, and she gains fans daily in Europe and Hawaii.
This is a woman to watch.
