After reading this collection of articles which are inspired by Mrs Cardoso's real life experiences, I came away, first of all feeling glad that I am not the only woman who has gone through rough moments (although it sure seems like it at the time) and secondly, after learning how to avoid falling into the same traps again, I felt helped and glad to have had access to such wisdom.
I must have read this book five times already and quoted so much of it when advising friends. It's like a reference tool for those times when you feel like nothing and nobody can help.
This book empowers women of all ages to go and get that dream which seemed like it was miles away. It helps women to value themselves and unleash the power that lies within them. It helps men to gain a better understanding of why we behave the way we do and it is a perfect gift to give a friend or someone who you know can benefit from a bit of subtle direction.
If there's one thing you can do to better yourself, it's getting this book!
Not your average women's bookReview Date: 2008-10-03
Perhaps it's because her background comes from Brazil where the image of women and their beauty and grace is so different from the typical American woman raised in the 70's with modern feminism strongly influencing our culture. In no way does she present women as weak or inferior, but she encourages women to embrace their femininity without shame, and yet aspire to do great things in their lives. At a time when American culture seems to be able to only produce the extreme of the hard-driven, career oriented woman or the sex-kitten, who sets a very promiscuous standard for our daughter's fashion sensibilities, Mrs. Cardoso blows away those tired ideas and presents a healthy, complete picture of a successful woman. Successful not only in her work, but in her relationships and marriage, in her view of herself, and most importantly in her connection to God.
Though this is only a compilation of simple articles written over a period of time, the messages in each are deep and ring so true. It's an easy read, and women will feel so much better knowing that it's OK to be women with the loves, passions, creativity and femininity that they have without compromising their goals. Give this to every woman you know, young or old, and they'll read it over and over.

Wonderful exciting amazing bookReview Date: 2005-05-17
It is extraordinary. She reports that Sir Winston Churchill told her to tell the absolute truth and she does so.
She tells an amazing story of being Jay Bee, a member of a secret circle of agents, taking orders directly from Churchill and the operatives who reported to him directly.
She tells us what it was like to be an agent of the British government, in touch with the Resistance, in occupied France during WW II.
Her exploits are stupendous. She has a photographic memory. She speaks French fluently, and therefore is able to operate effectively in occupied France.
What was most inspirational and astounding to me was her faith in the human spirit and eventual world peace, in the midst of war, torture, and horror.
Despite her direct experience with some of the most horrific atrocities in the history of humankind, she still believes in the inherent goodness of human beings.
A great book -- exciting, full of information about WW II, and spiritually inspiring.

For the Love of the DanceReview Date: 2008-02-27
But what if a healthy, talented young dancer is naturally curvy?
When teen ballerina Kayla becomes, how shall we say, more shapely up top, a teacher recommends that she have a reduction surgery. News spreads quickly at her performing arts school, causing a private matter to become even more public, more obvious, and more embarrassing. Then a pair of red shoes appear with a note bearing the book's title. With both her career and life in danger, and with her peers (especially the boys) openly and enjoyably discussing her appearance, Kayla becomes uncomfortable in the limelight.
This book offers revelations and relevé, music and art, costumes and conflict. Years of rigorous training has made Kayla nothing if not determined, and, with the support of her sister and a few other supporting players, she holds her head up high and retains both her integrity and her love for dance. Dorian Cirrone has written a story to celebrate, all about sticking up for yourself (and others), sticking to your dreams, and having a positive self-image.

Dancing in Red Shoes Will Kill You has a fantastic cast of characters--from Paterson, the feminist, to Joey's humor to Gray, Kayla's hot love interest--and a plot that will keep the reader turning to the next page and the next and the next...
This is a must buy book for mothers and fathers who want to reinforce the importance of a positive self-image for their daughters.
