This book is cutting edge material and deals with real up to date issues. It gives you a womans' perspective on the emotional stress that they must endor dealing with their outlook on society, their standards, their security, and the social status of the men in their lives. Renay keeps it real on this one. As a man, you can finally understand a womans point of view. This could be a great film production.

A Fantastic First For H. Renay Anderson!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It was entertaining, real-to-life, and emotionally satisfying. I was able to identify with these two women, and I think a lot of others will do so as well. I was actually sad when there was no more to read! Sequel! Sequel!

This great how-to book covers the entire sales process. It is a valuable tool for all sales people, both new and experienced. It was published in 1996. Really, nothing much has changed in sales since then.

This outstanding book spells out all the critical areas of knowledge and skill needed to sell successfully. If it is possible to learn to be a top salesperson from a book, this would be the book. Sales is a tough game and this book can help smooth out the rough spots. The specifics on opening, closing, and handling objections and problems are especially helpful. Great for all types of sales and salespeople.

The book is full of tips and techniques from opening the call, to handling that difficult customer, to staying in touch with those that didn't even buy from you!. It is so well organized, it makes finding what you want extremely easy. At first, I figured it was just another how-to-sell book, but after both novice and veteran salespeople told me about it, I had to see for myself. Now, I keep it in my attache and refer to it often.

My almost seven year old daughter has been enjoying AG books on tape and has had at least 20 read to her. Our favorites are the short stories though, because they can be read in one sitting and they have great project ideas geared to the age group. We bought the newest series on July 1 and have read four out of six of the short stories. These books will become favorites for sure, just as the first short story set books are still read over and over again. Thanks for the intro to history in an appropriate format for the early grades.

This is exactly the book my family needed. Reading "Arnie and his School Tools" to my children made them feel "normal". Giving it to the teachers to read to the class was the perfect start to improved classroom behavior. The teachers suddenly "got it", and the students who saw behaviors in themselves wanted Arnie's tools, too. The children who didn't understand why the Arnies in class needed to move suddenly became more empathetic.

A very powerful experience. A book I intend to give to each of my children's teachers at the beginning of every school year.

Jennifer Veenendall has done an amazing job at creating a wonderful hard covered cleverly illustrated book. I would highly recommend this for teachers who have students with autism integrated into their classroom. The book would educate typical peers on autism and the tools kids with autism find useful. The wonderful illustration would catch the eye of any young reader while teaching them valuable lessons about their peers with autism. Also, parents can share this with their childdren who have autism or sensory processing disorders to provide them a character whom they will understand and enjoy.

This would be a terrific gift for any lower elementary school teacher.

Written and illustrated by school-based occupational therapist Jennifer Veenendall, Arnie and His School Tools: Simple Sensory Solutions That Build Success is a children's picturebook about Arnie, a young boy with sensory modulation difficulties - that is, he's a "mover". His body needs to move, and his hands need to be busy, which makes it hard to sit still in school and pay attention to his teachers! What is a naturally restless boy to do? Fortunately, his parents and teachers instruct him in simple helpful strategies, including fidgets, chewy pencil toppers, earplugs, headphones, ball cushions, weighted vests, and more, as well as the use of natural physical movement to help keep his body calm and enable his mind to focus. Arnie and His School Tools is no ordinary picturebook; it's also a useful teaching aid for occupational therapists, teachers, and parents helping elementary children understand helpful basic sensory tools. "Sometimes I jump on our mini-trampoline, and at other times I jump and crash into our couch pillows. All these things help calm my body and my mind so I can get my homework done." Suggested discussion questions, a list of resources for children and parents, and helpful websites round out this enthusiastically recommended picturebook, especially for public and elementary school libraries.

We happened upon this book in a vacation home on Martha's Vineyard and my two year old fell in love with it. He speaks the refrain himself. The book has a great rhythm that is fun to read for adults too. My son wants us to recite it from memory when the book is not around. We simply had to buy it when we got home.

I don't know why Amazon lists this book for ages 4 - 8. There is no way a 4 year old could read the material here. The pictures are sophisticated in their execution, and requires a steady hand and a light touch to complete.

This is an awesomely pretty book, best enjoyed by tweens to adults.

This is one of the best coloring books I've ever used! Although I wouldn't reccomend it for very small children only because the text is a bit advanced. The pictures are detailed wonderfully, and the pictures are based on classics such as Cinderella, The Nutcracker, Giselle, and The Sleeping Beauty. The pages are extra-big so you can color more on each page. If you're wanting a good ballet coloring book, this is the one to get!!

There are so many self-help books out there, but few leave you feeling positive and motivated about loving the things you like about yourself and changing the things you don't. In this book, Mrs Cardoso covers every issue that we women face on a daily basis. She tells it like it is without putting you down or making you feel like a complete failure. No, each problem follows with a solution - one that will help you to draw strength from that situation and use it to better yourself.

After reading this collection of articles which are inspired by Mrs Cardoso's real life experiences, I came away, first of all feeling glad that I am not the only woman who has gone through rough moments (although it sure seems like it at the time) and secondly, after learning how to avoid falling into the same traps again, I felt helped and glad to have had access to such wisdom.

I must have read this book five times already and quoted so much of it when advising friends. It's like a reference tool for those times when you feel like nothing and nobody can help.
This book empowers women of all ages to go and get that dream which seemed like it was miles away. It helps women to value themselves and unleash the power that lies within them. It helps men to gain a better understanding of why we behave the way we do and it is a perfect gift to give a friend or someone who you know can benefit from a bit of subtle direction.

If there's one thing you can do to better yourself, it's getting this book!

As a pastor's wife and Christian counselor for 20 years, I've read many good and informative books, but reading this book opened my mind to many different perspectives that have not only helped me in my counseling, but in my own personal life as well. When I was asked to proofread this book, I was pleased, but confident that I already had a pretty good grasp of the issues that women struggle with. I was so pleasantly surprised to find that Mrs. Cardoso deals with issues that few other books of this nature even allude to.

Perhaps it's because her background comes from Brazil where the image of women and their beauty and grace is so different from the typical American woman raised in the 70's with modern feminism strongly influencing our culture. In no way does she present women as weak or inferior, but she encourages women to embrace their femininity without shame, and yet aspire to do great things in their lives. At a time when American culture seems to be able to only produce the extreme of the hard-driven, career oriented woman or the sex-kitten, who sets a very promiscuous standard for our daughter's fashion sensibilities, Mrs. Cardoso blows away those tired ideas and presents a healthy, complete picture of a successful woman. Successful not only in her work, but in her relationships and marriage, in her view of herself, and most importantly in her connection to God.

Though this is only a compilation of simple articles written over a period of time, the messages in each are deep and ring so true. It's an easy read, and women will feel so much better knowing that it's OK to be women with the loves, passions, creativity and femininity that they have without compromising their goals. Give this to every woman you know, young or old, and they'll read it over and over.

This book is the original Women's Lib book. Its a story of a single mother bunny with 21 children. She has them so well organized that they even have time for fine arts in her home. She has no desire for a job, but attends the great Easter race one year. She impresses the grandfather bunny with her skill, wit, and speed that he chooses her to be the next Easter bunny.

She manages her household and her job as the Easter bunny single-handedly. It is a beautiful story full of love and wonderful pictures. It is an absolute classic.

A friend lent me this book by Josephine Butler.

It is extraordinary. She reports that Sir Winston Churchill told her to tell the absolute truth and she does so.

She tells an amazing story of being Jay Bee, a member of a secret circle of agents, taking orders directly from Churchill and the operatives who reported to him directly.

She tells us what it was like to be an agent of the British government, in touch with the Resistance, in occupied France during WW II.

Her exploits are stupendous. She has a photographic memory. She speaks French fluently, and therefore is able to operate effectively in occupied France.

What was most inspirational and astounding to me was her faith in the human spirit and eventual world peace, in the midst of war, torture, and horror.

Despite her direct experience with some of the most horrific atrocities in the history of humankind, she still believes in the inherent goodness of human beings.

A great book -- exciting, full of information about WW II, and spiritually inspiring.

This is a book-on-tape selected by accident while searching for British mysteries. And what a fortuitous accident it was. This is the story of a British female physician, very familiar with France due to a long period of residence there, who was selected to be a member of Winston Churchill's Secret Circle of spies. The detail of the accounts of her preparation and adventures in France, running from the Gestapo, establishing collaborator networks, rival the best of fictional novels. This autobiography will rivet your attention from beginning to end, and hope someday for the movie. Bravo, Jay Bee, and thanks!!

This is a delightful and fast-paced book, which also thoughtfully explores issues such as body image and artistic passion. Not only is the main character endearing and makes us root for her as she worries about her body, a boy, and rivalries at school, but each supporting character is fully drawn. I liked the humor throughout the book, as well as the inciteful glimpses of the pressures of being a voluptuous ballet dancer.

For the Love of the Dance

Review Date: 2008-02-27
Ballet dancers know that talent isn't always enough to keep their career afloat. They have to have determination, dedication, passion, and technical accuracy, give amazing auditions and performances - and maintain a certain physique. There are those who adhere to strict diets in order to maintain a certain weight, and some sadly resort to dangerous tactics to keep a slim figure, jeopardizing their health AND their career in doing so.

But what if a healthy, talented young dancer is naturally curvy?

When teen ballerina Kayla becomes, how shall we say, more shapely up top, a teacher recommends that she have a reduction surgery. News spreads quickly at her performing arts school, causing a private matter to become even more public, more obvious, and more embarrassing. Then a pair of red shoes appear with a note bearing the book's title. With both her career and life in danger, and with her peers (especially the boys) openly and enjoyably discussing her appearance, Kayla becomes uncomfortable in the limelight.

This book offers revelations and relevé, music and art, costumes and conflict. Years of rigorous training has made Kayla nothing if not determined, and, with the support of her sister and a few other supporting players, she holds her head up high and retains both her integrity and her love for dance. Dorian Cirrone has written a story to celebrate, all about sticking up for yourself (and others), sticking to your dreams, and having a positive self-image.

Dancing in Red Shoes Will Kill You is an important novel by first time author, Dorian Cirrone. Ms. Cirrone tackles the politics of female body image through the story of Kayla, a ballet dancer with size double D breasts who is heckled by classmates and encouraged to pursue plastic surgery by her dance instructor if she wants to get leading roles as a ballerina. Another more subtle message in the book is females supporting other females in their success.

Dancing in Red Shoes Will Kill You has a fantastic cast of characters--from Paterson, the feminist, to Joey's humor to Gray, Kayla's hot love interest--and a plot that will keep the reader turning to the next page and the next and the next...

This is a must buy book for mothers and fathers who want to reinforce the importance of a positive self-image for their daughters.
