I bought the item almost 3 months ago and has still not arrived. In the meantime they charged me again for the same purchase (one month and a half after the real purchase). They deposited the money back, but my sister's birthday present is seams to be lost as well as my money!

I love this calendar. Each month features a different theme of shoes, for example January features all kinds of boots and February features all red shoes. The one drawback is the fact the the previous and next month are very small considering this is a wall calendar and awfully hard to see.

A matter of style

Lisa Michaels, from The New York Times Book Review, hits it right on the nose: "Reading Can Xue's fiction is like running downhill in the dark; you've got momentum, but you don't know where you're headed.... the stories in The Embroidered Shoes describe strange, disordered worlds where people speak in riddles and time and setting are as fickle as the wind."

If this is a style you enjoy, then go for it. To me, it was a very hard, dissatisfying read. As a reader, i prefer to have more structure and more guidance from the author. I found Can Xue's stories disjointed and poorly integrated. Please beware...

The comparisons to Kafka and Borges are right on - Can Xue's stories are indeed bizarre, often meriting a second reading, but they are enthralling. This book is highly recommended, as are her other two.

My kids found this story cute. I have twins in kindergarten, shoe tying is a big frustration. They can both tie but get annoyed with shoes coming untied. This added a bit of humor to the situation, not a solution but there isnt one so what can you say?

I liked this book. Her two cousins do everything they can to help her find love. Yes, she has money and people have been trying to take advantage of her for years and it has affected her. But this book is about finding romance and they both find it. Good read. couldn't put it down til I finished it.

This book tries hard to bring in a cinderella touch to draw the story together. It doesn't work. They meet at a masked ball, fall into lust. Time and miles later they meet and again fall into lust. Oh, and cinderella is rich. As some kind of modern day fairy tale, it fails miserably. Too bad, interesting idea.

One of the Greatest books about medieval shoes on the market

The tower of London Press has never dissapointed me, and this book is no exception. Having done quite a bit of research on clothing artifacts, I can tell you that this book is excellent. The book contains quality pictures of shoes spanning the periods for anyone into such groups as the SCA, Renfaires, IFGS, and many other historical recreation groups. One of the best features of this text is that there are generally three views of each shoe. The first is the photograph of the actual item. The second is a drawing of the item, with any parts that time may have removed added back in. The third, and most unique that I've come across, is a picture of the pieces of the shoe flattened. This flattened view lets you make your own truly medieval shoes with a few simple measurements and pretty basic tools. Some knowledge of leatherwork is helpful. I also found it useful to understand how to utilise a sock-pattern for making a shoe. This book is an excellent reference for the shoe enthusiast from the level of the beginner all the way up to the seasoned expert.

The correct title of this book is 'Shoes and Pattens' and it's available at Amazon. A patten is a wooden base worn with a shoe to protect the shoe from mud and yuck. The book 'Shoes and Pattens' does contain patterns.

If you love shoes as much as me, and that would be a whole lot considering the fact that I have an whole walk in closit full of shoes, then you would love this book. This book explains all about shoes from all over the world! I enjoyed it so much because I enjoy learning about shoes. This is amazing because I usually hate reading!

Do not judge a book by it's cover.

I was very disappointed when I got "Where Will This Shoe Take You? : A Walk Through the History of Footwear." I expected color pictures of shoes from every era, not classified by shoe style. Also, I expected more pictures of people wearing the shoes featured in this book, as there were few pictures. I do not recommend.

I'm not usually a reader of war stories. But I am a history buff, and in geneology studies, have found that "Horseshoe Robinson" (actually Robertson) was one of my ancestors, through 2 different lines. So I've read most of the book. I find it to be very realistic documentation of the events and happenings of the Revolutionary War. It's a long book, but packed with lots of details that help the reader understand how it felt to be involved in that time. I note it's listed as one of the top books written about the Revolutionary War. Has been reprinted numerous times since the original came out in 1810. My first copy was made at the Library of Congress. Bought a copy at a reasonable cost; would buy others if reasonable, to pass on to my grandchildren.

Baby Needs Shoes book review

Review Date: 2005-09-15
"Come on, baby needs a new pair of shoes!" Have you ever heard this saying before? Well, in this fictional tale that saying is used a lot. It is a book about a young 5th grade girl named Janet who lives with her sister. Her parents died and left them with nothing. But Janet has the ability to predict numbers before they are revealed. She was discovered by a man named fat Charlie who does something different for a living. Fat Charlie plays a game called craps in which a person guesses what number the other person is going to roll before they roll it and bets money on the number. It is an illegal game that they have to keep changing places so that they don't get caught by the police. It is Janet's job to tell Fat Charlie the number that is going to be rolled and she is paid a fair ransom of the money. She has to make sure she doesn't get caught by cops. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to a smaller audience. This book seems to fit as a great children's book. My favorite part in this book was when fat Charlie found out about her special ability and her life started to get better. Even though, it is a little cliché that she has a special power to receive money for her family, the originality is a little dull. Other than that the book was fairly good, but it is definitely more suited for a children audience more than adult. This book was very easy to read and fairly amusing, I would recommend this book to any children who want a nice story to read or any one else who is in search for an easy reading and relaxing book.

I enjoyed Pamela Kogen's "A Year in Shoes 2000" calendar; however, I'm disappointed in the selection of subjects for "A Box of Shoes" notecards. I like "Satin wedding shoe" and "Jack Purcell canvas tennis sneaker." I'll use the "Fool's slipper" (not my favorite) for holiday cards. The illustrations fill the front of the coated-paper cards nicely. I would have eliminated "Wing tip golf brogue" and "Flip Flops" for other selections. The box is a nice keepsake. The envelopes are sturdy uncoated paper with a washed red batik print inside.

Cindy Rawlins works two jobs, selling shoes during the day and serving for a catering service in the evenings, hoping to save enough money to put herself through veterinary school. She recently borrowed a pair of three-hundred-dollar pumps from the store for a wheelchair bound friend, and lost the left one. The cost of the shoe equals two weeks' salary, and Cindy cannot afford to replace it. So she places a personal ad in the paper for a red pump, size eight narrow. Although many responses arrive, none have found the missing shoe.

In addition to her weakness for aiding wounded friends, Cindy also has a perchance for lending aid to wounded animals. Unfortunately, landlords frown upon her endeavors and frequently demand that she move. Now that she has been evicted again, she reluctantly accepts a friend's offer to help her move. Her friend brings along a burly guy with a truck - one Parker Davis, to whom she recently sold two pairs of shoes. With an instant attraction between them, Parker had been eager to see Cindy again. But Parker has his job cut out to convince Cindy that it is okay to need someone.

Perky dialogue and sympathy to the working class make CINDERELLA'S SHOE SIZE a dynamic read. While she attempts to cover a bit too much territory in this multifaceted tale, author Kathleen Webb does avoid the typical clichés that often weaken a modern fairy tale. Comedic moments, unexpected opportunity and the clash of opposites keep the plot interesting as Cindy learns to accept Parker's help. Parker is everything that hero should be, wealthy, sexy and charismatic, but he is also realistic, seeing beneath Cindy's desperate need for independence and recognizing her hidden vulnerabilities. Complete with a happily-ever-after romance lovers expect in a modern fairy tale come true, CINDERELLA'S SHOE SIZE comes recommended.
