I am a photographer and also a high heels collector. There is a project in my mind since one year ago, I want to creat a book to present the art of high heel design, just like this book. I have many ideals. However when I saw this book, I think I need new ideals, or my friend will think that my work is just a copy.
I will rate 4 to 4.5 stars to this book.

ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

I just happened to be in Selfridges/London last year, coinciding with Eric Boman and Manolo Blahnik's book launch. There were queues and queues of eager fans lining up to get their newly purchased books autographed by the fashionable duo. It was all very civilised, even though security guards were holding back the frenzied mob, while Boman and Blahnik relentlessly signed with tireless good humour and charm.

Blahnik has been the ultimate cobbler to the stars since the Seventies, and Boman is a veteran, top photographer who's been photographing beautiful women for years (his most recent book, "Dames" show-cases his portrait-photogaphy). It's fortunate for Manolo that Eric came up with the novel idea of photographing his old friend's shoes. It was also conducive for the book that he supplied the witty 'photographic conversation,' for although Manolo's shoes are the most exquisite in the world, a book would have been pretty one dimensional with pedestrian sole snap-shots of his pumps without Eric's creative input.

Boman has not only managed to produce imaginative photographs of the beautiful shoes, but has elevated Manolo's footwear to museum status. Thanks to his original and highly imaginative photographic compositions, the elegant pumps have been transformed into classical portraits.

Boman and Blahnik's old friend Paloma Picasso has supplied the foreword, helping make this beautifully produced book a must have gift, especially for people with tasteful shoe fetishes and aficionados of superior glossy art books, the kind which are too exquisite to grace coffee tables.

I enjoyed reading THE BOY WHO LOVED TO SHIM-SHAM SHIMMY. It would be nice if every young boy had a grandfather like Boomps--somebody who wants to make life more joyful and fun for a little boy who still thinks anything's possible.

The Boy Who Loved To Shim-Sham Shimmy by author/illustrator M. D. Osborne is the story of a young African-American boy who loves to tap dance for his grandfather. The grandfather encourages his love of dancing with a special gift, but when the boy falls down during his dance at school he is embarrassed. His grandfather teaches him that it's important to dance the way the feels right (and promises him real, appropriately balanced tap shoes instead of the makeshift shoes the boy was using!) The boy learns the importance of expressing his heart and doing what he most loves to do in this toe-tapping friendly tale.

A beautiful book

"The boy who loved to shim sham shimmy" was an enjoyable read. To me, the content had a nostalgic feel to it; the author's use of certain phrases and the way the text and the illustrations were blended together on the page reminded me of how I felt as a child reading books (quite a few decades ago!). The illustrations were excellent, but the pictures the author painted with description were even more compelling. As a reader, it was as if it was me experiencing the sensations being described. The story itself was inspiring; capturing the exuberance of youth and Timmy's love for dancing. I would strongly recommend this book. It is full of hope and has a wonderful message.

My daughter and I read this book. We enjoyed reading about the relationship the grandfather and grandson shared. My daughter is a dancer and wants to order a copy for her teacher. She turned in a book report for her class at school and her teacher inquired about the book.

The author sure reached me and then some. This book has everything I base my life on: family, valuing each day for what it is, dreams, ambitions, courage, and most of all love. Don't know how the author managed all that, but just can't wait to read it to my great granchildren. The only thing I can say is "it definitly must be a serial" I need to hear how Timmy makes it thru High School and College and how Boomps helps him realize his dreams.

"In Our Shoes" is a must read! The stories of these 7 women, told in an interesting Past-Present-Future series by each, provide a generous dose of reassurance of the power we forget we have, alone or together. Regardless of our circumstances, we women link together in eerie, synchronistic ways throughout our lives. This is one of the unique gifts to our gender from the Great Creator. And the incredible gift of this book reminds us that in our own communities we can always find healing, comforting links with other women -- if we will only look and reach out to each other, as these women did. What powerful and ultimately healing stories they tell! Read this wonderful book for inspiration, comfort and Truth. You'll go back to it again and again, as I have.

Seven women, using a unique format, individually reveal their life story. They each tell of their past experiences, their present situation and their future aspirations. The ladies are very open, honest and candid in divulging their innermost secrets. This makes for a book you cannot stop reading until it is completed. The reader is compelled to read some of the stories more than once because they are so intriging. You feel you know each person and can identify with their humaness. Everyone has a story to tell. These ladies have done so in a riviting and inspiring manner.

These are seven big, powerful, distinct voices. The courage and resilience of the women behind those voices make this one of the best books of this type I have read in a LONG time. It is one of those books we all need when we are dragging, when we need to refresh that connection with our community and maybe our community isn't right there just now. While we may or may not agree that life is one long birth canal, these women clearly see Light at the end of their tunnels and that Light has transformed them in a way that is simple and direct. There is no hocus pocus here, no new age mumbo-jumbo, just survivors who held on to their senses of humor every step of the way and who can write so well that we can share in their journey.

Little feet

by

Marina Drasnin Gilboa

If ever a book of photographs can be called charming, this is the book. Measuring only 6 1/4 X 6 1/4" with 72 pages, this book holds images of tiny feet in sweet, scuffed, muddy and precious baby shoes of all kinds. Above the shoes are chubby knees, drooping socks and rolled up cuffs of baggy pants or appealing hems of pretty little dresses. Some shoe laces are untied. Some feet are moving--running jumping, swinging and more, and some are still.

Some images are black and white, some are brown-toned and others are color. All are captivating. What a wonderful idea photographer Marina Drasnin Gilboa had when she thought of producing this book. This book would be a precious gift for a new parent or grandparent. Totally delightful. Published by Chronicle Books and copyrighted 2000, it is beautifully done.

This review pertains to the "We Both Read" series not just this individual volume.
I discovered these books when my 5YO brought them home from the school library. They are unique stories full of sight words and repetition on the child's page - all reinforcing the reading skills that they are learning in school. I have had a hard time finding books for the beginner reader that are neither too simplistic to keep their interest nor too difficult for the true beginner. The adult's page is not so simplistic as to bore an adult to tears but still simple enough that an older child can read to the younger one.
The process of taking turns makes the reading easy so as not to frustrate beginners if they have to get through a whole book themselves and at the same time does not let them sit passive while you read a whole book to them. The books keep the child actively engaged as they have to notice when it is their turn to read. In addition to learning the words, they are learning verbal cues from your tone to determine when it is their turn (often with a rhyming word) and they can learn how to read with expression.
I have bought at least a dozen titles in this series for my own kindergartener and for several other children at this age level. Everyone (parents and kids) has been very happy with them and they have asked where I found them. My niece, a first grade teacher, has even recommended them to her school for their "Reading Buddy" program where kindergarteners are paired with 5th graders.

This book keeps everyone happy when my 6 year old (or my 4 year old) want to help read, but the 3 year old doesn't have the patience to listen to stories at their pace.

We have about four of the "We read togher" books. Lu Lu's shoes is the hands down favorite. Cute story line, nice illistrations and just a few words on the child's side.

Some of the books in this series were about equal difficulty on the child and parent sides. When your child can read that well, there are millions of books (many with better illistrations/stories) they can help read. The joy of this series to to have books they can help read when they still need to sound out each letter.

To see how difficult the book is, check the exerpts part of the 'look inside' section to see a sample of the parent side, the child side, and the illistrations.

I recently purchased "Lulu's Lost Shoes" by Paula Blankenship to give to my grandson who just graduated from preschool. I had the joy to watch his mother read it with him for the first time. The book is so creatively written and illustrated that my grandson was able to read his pages with ease. The ease of his reading comprehension captivated the attention of everyone in the room which increased his desire to read it again and again and again... This is creditably one of the best investments I have ever made.

We enjoyed this calendar so much, we ordered several of these "Shoeinverse 2007 Desk Calendars" to give as Christmas gifts for special friends. They were a wonderful hit with every single one. The themes for the "shoes" on each page are very creative and the execution of each full-color illustration is wonderful. The calendar is a weekly, with plenty of spaces for notes and appointments, as well as a "shoe image" on each page. I would recommend these calendars to anyone who is looking for an unusual and delightful gift for friends. By all means, treat yourself to one as well.

Jennifer has created a classy way for today's independent business woman to share her appointment book with clients and other professionals she encounters each day. What a great conversation starter! What Realtor can resist one of March's shoes, "Soled", which depicts a for sale sign as a heal, with keys on a gold loop for the ankle strap and a white picket fence for the buckle? Or the advid golfer... "Shoe Wanna Play a Round?" with all the golf tees, holes, plaid, etc., Or my favorite, the "Moo Shoe" where a cow with a leg as a heel, rope and bell for ankle strap, is completed with utters! Such imagination! Fantastic for those of us who need some levity with our days! Thank you for the weekly approach to your calendar. It will get much use with my home business and I am convinced my clients will enjoy making appointments while admiring your artistry and humor.

If you're a shoe lover like I am your truly going to appreciate this calendar.

Several years ago my co-worker gave this to me as a gift because he knew just how much I love shoes. Although he's no longer employed at my company his gift will always be remembered as I turn the page and brace myself on what type of shoe I will see and how creative each shoe maker is and sometimes ask myself where can I fine these shoe.

I enjoyed the calendar so much because of its one of a kind shoe that's displayed in an upright clear stand throughout the year. I especially enjoyed that it's never repeated, a little history on the maker, year and designer. This year I order my own and it felt good to see what shoes will appear on the next page and the next and so on. Try not to peek and turn the page until that day has arrived - it just keeps you wondering what's next. Keep it a surprise and be amazed. Its fun!.

I came across this book by way of a co-worker and recommended it to my daughter. Both of us found this story to be engaging, hopeful, and insipring. This book is about putting the demons to rest that are challenging your successes in life. Randle had us fighting for him, angry at him, and loving him all at the same time. The greatest thing was reading along and knowing what he meant (alaskans have there own language, LOL) where he was, and what it looked like because his setting takes place in our home state of ALASKA.
Our take away from this book is that if you have the will to survive you can beat anything, and Randle, your strenght is an insipration, thank you for sharing this and A Soft Shoe with us. Wishing you continued success in all things.

I have 4 kids. The oldest three boys are 9, 6, and 4. I read this to them last night and I was really moved. We discussed the book and they really heard the message that you can't always get everything you want and that there is a very big difference between a want and a need. Being so close to Christmas it was a great conversation opener about what they want for Christmas and what they can reasonably expect. We also discussed and shared times when other people had what we wanted, times when we were envious, and also how much better it feels to be generous and kind! I struggle all the time as a parent to impress upon my children these very ideas and this book brought it home so easily! READ THIS BOOK! Also, I love how the boy lives with his grandmother but it not overemphasized and there is no discussion on why his family consists of just him and her. That is just how real life is sometimes and I appreciate that realistic fact being inserted!

Just about every boy at school seemed to be wearing those black high-tops with two white stripes, and Jeremy wanted a pair also. Unfortunately Grandma remained firm about only paying for needs, not wants, and Jeremy needed a new pair of winter boots. To add insult to injury, when one of Jeremy's shoes fell apart at school, the only replacement available from the guidance counselor's supply box was a pair of children's Velcro sneakers with a cartoon animal on the side. Even Jeremy's idea of buying his dream high-tops at a local thrift shop backfired when the one pair in stock fit so poorly that they hurt his feet. Little did Jeremy realize that those thrift-store high-tops held the key to a deeper understanding of generosity and friendship.

This clever book contains a powerful lesson about differentiating between wants and needs in the face of tight budget constraints. At the same time, the subtle text and expressive illustrations communicate clearly a child's desire to conform. At a time when expensive shoes have become a high-status consumption good, Those Shoes comes out a winner for telling an appealing story to which readers across age groups can relate.

This is a magical book that always works for school-aged kids, even the ones that think they are too cool to have someone read to them.

When I read it to a group, I ask, "Have you ever not gotten what you wanted, even if you thought you really needed it? How did that make you feel?" Even the "privileged" kids can relate.

Without being syrupy, this is the story of a kid who is just getting by; he wants the cool shoes the other kids have and knows he can never have them. He finds them--sort of, they are too small--in a consignment shop and manages to buy them, desperate to fit in. Meanwhile, the only kid who didn't laugh at him a few days ago doesn't have any shoes, either. Without giving too much away, I'll say the story ends with compassion and dignity. It's also miraculously brief; every word is important.

Since I am a librarian, I often have parents or teachers asking me for books on friendship. I've never seen one as well-written as this, and the illustrations round out the story perfectly.

I really enjoyed this lil book, although I found that reading it in the doctor's office was probably not the best place! They interrupted too much and I was enjoying it a bit too much to be in public reading. It had a lot of excellent ideas in it and was a lot of fun to read!

Great book for the starter foot fetishist!

This little book comes with many suggestions and opens your eyes to the realm of endless possibilities. It does not matter if you are brand new to the idea or an old player there is something for everyone. And it is written in an easy way that speaks to my intellect and my lower part. Highly recommend it.

Midori successfuly takes a complex subject and presents it simply in this toybag book. Her writing draws in and guides new foot and shoe worshippers through step by step suggestions and images, and adds new tips and tricks for the experienced enthusiasts. The book covers everything from pampering and sensual games to torture and intense power dynamics, whether you're on top, bottom, or in between. Good for the library, coffee table, golf bag, or bathroom magazine rack.
