I liked this story because I learned a lot of things. For example, I learned that hand-me-downs can be cool.

When you're the youngest brother of 5 sometimes you feel like you're missing out, especially when it comes to clothes and shoes. Rigo forms a close relationship with his uncle all based around a pair of loafers. It is a cute story with some Spanish and slightly exaggerated illustrations about this Mexican American family. My son and I enjoyed reading this together even though he is an only child so far, we saw the love in this family.

This book has become the favourite of my 5 year old daughter. Why should great fairytales only have one life, this is what happens after Cinderella marries the Prince and has a child of her own and her stepsisters have children of thier own. A very clever extension of the original. Great reading for 4-8 age group.

Great surprise ending for kids!

Out of Alan and Suzanne's 3 books, this one is my kid's favorite! They were in stitches the first time we read it because of what happens at the end! And even though we have read it many times now, they still giggle when the last couple of pages approach. Great story with good solid morals and a wonderful update on the Cinderella story. :-)

I think this is where the Tennis Shoes characters reach their maximum awesomeness. The various plots of earlier in the series continue with exciting and intriguing new developments, and there's even plenty of bones for the hopeless romantics. Heimerdinger's stylized and fictionalized view of history continues to amaze, as well do his handy notes that are included in the back.

Great book!

I have read all of the Tennis Shoes Among the Nephites Series, and I have enjoyed them all! But I think that Chris Heimerdinger gets better at writing these as he goes. I like how the stories from the past are brought into the new ones. He puts his characters in many different scriptural settings in his books, he puts them in the Bible in Old Testament times, New Testament times, and Book of Mormon times. This book in particular, I think is the best one yet. But don't get this book if you haven't read his other preceding books first or this one won't make much sense. I look forward to the next book coming out next year.

Cute and Colorful Tale

Michael McKeever's family is down on their luck, with Michael's father being out of work, and Michael's mother has told Michael that they have to "Make Do". Michael desperately needs need baseball shoes, as his toes are pushing through the ends, but his family cannot afford new shoes and Michael must "Make Do".

Unbeknownst to them all, O'Leary the Leprechaun has been living in their basement and is discovered by Michael on St. Patrick's Day. Michael is familiar with the tales of leprechaun's gold and desperately wants new baseball shoes. O'Leary is a very greedy leprechaun, and refuses to share his gold with Michael. Michael will have to "Make Do" as his mother says and cannot convince O'Leary to share even a small part of his gold.

During the night, greedy, old, cantankerous O"Leary has a change of heart and sews Michael a beautiful new pair of baseball shoes. Michael feels that things will be definitely getting better in their household.

Colorful book for ages 4-7, and children will learn some timely lessons in family hardships, compassion, and understanding. I thought that it was a rather cute tale and if read with a parent, the parent can help the child learn about the lessons presented in the book.

An Informative Book
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.

Though written for young readers, there are few better accounts of John Singleton Mosby and his Confederate partisans than "Mosby and his Rangers." Beller provides a detailed account of Mosby's life, from his birth in Edgemont, Virginia to his death many years later. Not only does she create a prefect picture of Mosby's career, but honors his partisan rangers and shows his effect on them.
The book describes many of Mosby's succesful raids, including one where he snuck into a Union camp and kidanpped Brigadier General Edwin Henry Stoughton without any of his rangers being caught.
This book was very well written for the audience it was intended for. Informative and descriptive, "Mosby and his Rangers" is a perfect biography of one of the most effective military leaders of the Civil War.

This little sprial bound cookbook is full of interesting recipes. Billed as fare for an afternoon tea, many are easily converted to serve your family regular sandwiches, dips and desserts. The instructions are clear . The only difficulty is that they don't specify the quantity a recipe makes.

You don't have to be a Red Hatter to enjoy this book!

It is a small size but very clear print to read and just a fun gift to give or GET! She and I both enjoy it.

This retelling of Hans Christian Anderson's classic fairytale is well done. It is the story of a girl who becomes obssessed with owning a pair of beautiful red dancing shoes with long silk ribbons. Her grandmother refuses to buy them, claiming they are not practical. Yet she thinks of nothing else and saves up all her money, until finally they are hers. However, the girl soon finds out the consequences of possessing the red shoes. The ending of the story has changed from the original---which was the girl amputated her feet to get the shoes off. The ending of this version is more suitable for younger readers. The illustrations in the book are quite lovely and detailed, especially the facial expressions of the young girl and the suspicious old shoemaker. I enjoyed it a lot.

A Mother's Love In the Face of Heartache
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2006-05-03
My mother was a nurse at St. John's Hospital (Santa Monica) in the 1950's at the time pre-adolescent Nancy Hamilton was fighting her battle to ultimately wear red shoes. She had grossly misshapened legs that made wearing any shoes a treasured dream. It has been years since I read this book, but I do remember what a testament of a mother's love for a child dearly cared for and the frustrating heartache of being powerless to do anything about it but wait and pray. Nancy had an indomitable spirit that touched all the staff at the hospital. These were the days (mid-1950's)where the wards at Catholic Hospitals were so hushed you could literally hear the air being moved by the habits of the nuns as they made their way down the halls. A hard book to find, but a great comfort to any parent working through grief in its timeless voice. Sincerely, E Kelley, Las Vegas

This book is really sad. I was so touched by it though. It is very old, and may be hard to find, and I noticed how expensive they are here. I really think anyone who likes touching stories should read this one. If you like this one, buy the sequal called "Borrowed Angel" by Marguerite Hamilton. These are both wonderful and touching stories.

Great book. My son liked the story and the easy illustrations made it fun for him to learn to tie his own shoes. The colored lace does come out and could get lost, which is why libraries don't have them.

Wonderful way to teach your child to tie his/her shoes!

I have been struggling with teaching my 5-year-old son how to tie his own shoes. I just couldn't help him figure it out...until I bought this book!! This book has different colored shoe strings and pictures that helped visually see "the big picture!
