Sand In My Shoes by Gwyn Bard was a wonderful way to relive summer in the frigid middle of winter. This book took me back to days I spent in Myrtle Beach with friends. The beach music came alive, and memories flooded my mind. I wanted to take out my shaggin' shoes and head for the drifting music by the ocean waves. Sand In My Shoes also shows the importance of friendship and how memories are an extension of your dear friends. May anyone who reads this book get sand in your shoes and music in your heart. Highly recommend.

Many years ago, in Jr High, this book was one of my favorites. An inspiring and breathtaking story. I hope it comes back in paperback.

Based on a true incident related to the author by a friend, Donaldson has crafted a beatifully written cross-generational story that will be enjoyed by all ages. Included is a note to parents regarding the importance of storytelling in helping members of one generation gain insight into the lives of the other and suggested topics for beginning that storytelling process. A real gem, this one continues to fly off the library shelves.

intelligent chick lit that doesn't get itself mushed up in the usual trashiness. quirky, funny, and entertaining, a realistic look at freindship and dating in the world of seattle.

This is not an "easy read," but it is a seminal work in the field of Self Psychology. Lecky takes on Freud and Pavlov, arguing that they are dependent on faulty metaphors. Lecky holds that "people can only be true to themselves. Individuals will behave in a way that is consistent with their self concept, even if this behavior is otherwise unrewarding to them"
Anyone serious about understanding the psychology of the Self should read this book--not once, but several times.

I have always been fascinated by Africa, but it seems that the news if so often full of stories that paint a very grim picture of the so-called "dark continent" In this book Joan Baxter shows us that Africa is anything but dark or hopeless. Baxter has been living and writing in Africa since 1982 and it is her personal connection to the continent that makes this book unique. She tells the story of the decimation of the Pygmies and their rainforest in Cameroon and ethnic wars in Ghana. She introduces us to ordinary Africans whose voices are seldom heard - from a traditional Pygmy healer who bemoans the loss of Africa's homegrown Viagra to the boatman philosopher in Northern Ghana. This book is rich with African wisdom and insights.

The Shoe cartoon strip is populated by characters that are exaggerated caricatures, yet that is the prime generator of the humorous charm of the strip. My favorite is Senator Battson D. Belfry, a symbol of all the pompous politicians whose mission in life appears to be nothing more than continuing in office. I don't know if he was the source of the image, but to me, Battson bears a great deal of resemblance to former Speaker of the House Thomas (Tip) O'Neil. MacNelly is a multiple winner of the Pulitzer Prize for his editorial cartoons and that talent for slaying virtual dragons is readily apparent in this collection.
His talent for exposing and lampooning the absurdity of many aspects of life leads to the response where you nod your head in agreement and then flap your lips in laughter. The cartoons are simultaneously funny and serious, which is a characteristic of the very best ones.

This book is excellent for young and old. Dennis Boultinghouse does an extraordinary job in reaching everyones heart strings. It doesn't matter what your going through, you are sure to find a story that will touch you. This is a great gift to give to anyone at any time of the year. Don't forget the Kleenex!

This book like all the ones that I have read of Jeff MacNelly has great material. This book however is on the short side. Although if you're a Cubs fan or a Baseball fan it probably will be more sentimental to you, for it seems to capture the Joy that baseball brings along with the frustrations and false hopes. But over all I believe that for how short it is the material is strong enough to hold its own.
