Set in the 1960s, The Red Shoes is a rhyming children's picturebook written by Eleri Glass and illustrated by award-winning book artist Ashley Spires, about a young girl drawn to the vibrant splash of color that is the only pair of red shoes in the shoe store. The shoes are a wonderful apple red, just waiting to be picked! The illustrations enhance the contrast between the bright red shoes and the muted grey of the world they enliven. The little girl even goes to bed wearing her wonderful new shoes. A charming, singsong story.

The reason I love this book adaptation of the film is because it goes it to details that are not shown in the film. You get to enter in to the thoughts of the characters. Considering what a expressive film The Red Shoes was, that this only brings more depth to it is wonderful. That only increases my love of the film. It is one of my favorite film of all time, but not just that all of Powell's and Pressburger's films were amazing. I recommend it to ballet fans everywhere.

A Musical Experience and Companion to the River to River CD

During my years as a music teacher in the public schools, I learned that children loved to listen to all kinds of music. Coloring and Drawing helped them to stay focused as they listened. ~Zola Van

Zola Van has not only created a stunning CD of music inspired by the Shawnee National Forest in Southern Illinois, she has also created a coloring book for children.

Through this book, your children can express themselves artistically while enjoying the inspiration of Zola Van's collection of Piano Solos. The CD is called: River to River Trail: The Hike and will be well loved by the entire family.

A picture of "headphones" appears on various pages with instructions on how to listen along with the music solo that inspired the drawings and puzzles. Children will also learn interesting facts, enjoy finding words in a crossword puzzle and learn about Southern Illinois. Zola has also included liner notes from her CD, A Hiking Safety Guide and more information about the River to River Trail.

The art in this book was created with the help of the talented Jordan Timmermann from Herrin High School in Herrrin Illinois. He plans to major in engineering in the near future.

When I heard piano solos as a child, it inspired me to take piano lessons and also to save up my money to buy my own piano. Zola Van's music is calming and lifts the heart. You may also enjoy her playing on "The HeartAid Project" which is a 9/11 benefit piano collection.

A perfect gift would be this coloring book, a River to River Trail CD and the book of sheet music for future playing. The paper used in this book also works very well with crayons and colored pencils.

Quality Children's Board Book

I think this is a quality children's board book. I am the father of a 3 year old girl and I purchased this book when she was only 2 years old. This is one of my daughter's favorite books. The story has a moral - something you don't find in children's books these days. You can read this story and talk about the animals, the shoes, the little girl and the value of money. Yes, in simplistic terms I have even covered this topic with my daughter whom thinks I have endless pockets. This is the only place I have seen this book and it's ashame because it's really well done. There are about 16 pages and it's very sturdy.
NOTE: This is a story that you can read to your toddler/child. There are more words on the page then some other cheap board books.

Missing shoe and the search to find it!

This is a story about Sam getting ready for school and missing a shoe! With 15 minutes before Sam is due at school she goes through out her home looking for this lost shoe. Sam is not any child, but a child with one vivid imagination! As she searches though each room in her home she sees various animals.... but no shoe!

So not to spoil the book I won't go any further and ruin the ending. It is a cute book and my daughter also loved the pengins in the fridge skating on a bowl of jello!

This is a marvelous end-of-summer tale through the eyes of a little girl who's spent the summer at the beach with all the special joys of exploring a safe island environment unfettered by parents, time or fear. Beautifully written and illustrated.
