Flawlessly told, the story of Richmond's famous black humanitarian and entrepreneur vividly comes to life for young and old readers alike. Branch expertly uses her professional storytelling skills to present factual information, and Rice's background in education is evident in the organization of the tremendous amount of material into 15 succinct chapters. Photographs are interspersed throughout the chapters to visually extend the the text. Walker accomplished a multitude of professional goals while experiencing personal tragedy: the murder of her stepfather, the deaths of two children, her husband and eldest son; and the crippling physical disability that plagued her las years. A life that is inspirational to young people of all races. Walker's biography is a must. Highly recommended. The Peyote Cult

Review Date: 2008-03-02
For half a century, readers on peyotism have devoured La Barre's fascinating original study, which began when the author at age twenty-four, studied the rites of fifteen American Indian tribes using Lophophora williamsii, the small, spineless, carrot-shaped peyote cactus growing in th Rio Grande Valley and southward.

Continuing his research from the 1930s through the 1980s, Weston La Barre reviews topics such as the Timothy Leary-Richard Alpert "experiments" with peyote and other psychotropic substances, the Carlos Casteneda phenomenon, the progress of the North American Church toward acceptance as a religious denomination, the presumptions of the Neo-American Church, the legal ramifications of ritual drug use, and the spread of peyotism from the Southwest to other North American tribes.

This new edition of La Barre's classic study [5th] includes 334 new entries in the latest of his highly valued bibliographical essays on works relating to peyote, not just in anthropology but in a variety of fields including archeology, economics, botany, chemistry, and pharmacology. The bibliography lists important contributions in popular media such as newspapers, audiotapes, and films, as well as scholarly journals.

A Triumph of Collectible Research!

This author has extensively researched a previously little-known subject. This book is so complete that I think auction houses will use it as a reference. The photographs are stunning and the line drawings extremely detailed. Prices are listed for each item, which is most helpful. What is invaluable is the effort the author has made to trace the manufacturers of as many shoes as possible. What a bonus for shoe collectors!

Perfect for young girls; sweet cheerful Christmas tale with lots of goodies

Review Date: 2008-11-19
This pretty book has a sweet story, doesn't talk down to children, and has the added bonus of having various goodies on every page - cards to decorate and address, a cookie ornament recipe (it's metric since it's British, but just use your own from a book or on-line), a stocking pattern, an organza drawstring purse, packs of sequens & glitter to decorate with. It's a cheerful story with cheerful pictures about a girl & her best friend trying to do something special for their friends & family for the Christmas Eve party at their house. It's a perfect gift for girls 3/4 with a good bit of help from an adult, 5/6-ish with some help from an adult, maybe even 7 or 8 with more independence on some of the projects that require dexterity. All projects have clear directions. It's a perfect pre-Christmas treat so they can prepare something special for Christmas like Poppy and her friend, Honey. I highly recommend it. I think girls will love it!

Geneology guide for compiling family histories
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2006-03-14
Mr. Damion Vache of the Times Picayune said as his closing statement of an excellent review; "This one definitely should be in all major Louisiana libraries, and it could well be used as a guide for others compiling family histories. It's that good."

Ronald Paul Richoux, Sr. author of the book Re Shoe On The Bayou was born on Armistice Day, on the 11th of November 1932 and I am the eighth born child of a farming family of 13 children born to the late Edwin Camille Richoux and Victoria Marie Delaune (Richoux.) his father was a sugar cane farmer in the heart of Cajun country on Bayou Lafourche, in the farming community of Larose, Louisiana.

The book is a 317 year history of the genealogy of the Richoux family. It starts in 1761 in Orleans France and identifies almost three thousand Richoux descendants, in America, and it ends in the year 1998. Many others Acadian families who married into the Richoux family are also identified. This Book is a 523 page, hard covered & jacketed, offset printed, by Bookcrafters of Chelsia Michigan.

In this book on the genealogy of the Richoux family has included a bunch of stories about the cajun culture and the many games kids played as cajun children on that sugar cane farm many years ago.

If your looking for a book that has you wanting more, than this is the book. I could not put it down and when I did, I was anxious to get back to it. This book not only keeps you interested in what's happening in each segment, but you get a sense of comfort with each story you read. It has you feeling relaxed and thinking "Man, I wish that were true life". I hope the author comes back with another one like just like it because I did not want this book to end!
