What a shame this book is out of print. My 2 year old son loves this book. The illustrations are wonderfull the busy shoe shop and the cosy kitchen where Dad is making tea. Its the perfect rainy day book. My son always wants to go and put on his yellow boots just like Alfie and go out and jump in the puddles. SPLISH, SPLASH, SPLOSH

Smart Dialogue, Darling Illustrations
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.

This is a wonderful children's book. The dialogue between little Emily and her grandmother is intelligent, and the illustrations are darling. Instead of the more traditional grandmother (elderly woman with a shawl or a bun), Emily's grandmother is very hip. She chews bubble gum and even wears flip flips! Am I Grown Up When I'm Not Afraid of Spiders in My Shoes would make a great Christmas or Hanukkah book -- especially for those curious children that wonder what it means to be grown up.

I got this book for three men who have daughters. I was able to have the author provide personalized inscriptions. It is a short book so people will actually read it! Funny and touching.

important historic women's shoe pattern book
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-12-13
This is an important book of original victorian and art deco shoe patterns.
It explains how to design shoe pattern styles that vary decorative elements, something not covered in basic fashion shoe courses.
[ISBN: 0979665124]

There are original, historic filigree patterns and some text discussing the important fashion movement named "Parisian Style" which was part of Victorian fashions. Clear diagrams explain how patterns relate to shoe lasts, and teaches basic pattern drafting off shoe lasts for women, men or childrens shoes. Book dimensions 11"x14" hardcover only.

Reprints can be ordered by your bookstore or library at www.rexkelly.org/books.html.

An important book for fashion designers, theater companies, and libraries.

I saw this originally at another store, but I purchased it from Amazon because I am a Prime member and it's oversized and going to a friend on an Air Force base overseas.

Andy Warhol is a genius. His work here is funny, and it's definitely decadent. It celebrates the shoe in a delightful, over-the-top way, and this isn't the first in the collection.

Highly recommend for all your shoe-loving-mates.

Every child who reads this book falls in love with it

I've shared this book, now, with half a dozen young children and it has become "standard fare" on demand whenever they visit. I hear the same thing from two people I gave the book to who are both grandparents. The simple, beautifully-told story and the wall-to-wall art are hypnotically simple, making their message all the more bold in its poetic humor. After all, "Annie's not hyper -- It's her shoes!" There isn't, for the challenged youngster at such an age, a better little bed-time story that I know of. And the cute little bunny and other imaginary features (evidently all Annie's own) beckon us to believe that there is still more here than meets the eye. That must be why all the young readers ask for it first from their grandparents. Myself, I love it for the watercolor illustration work; it's incredible.

I wish I'd had a Belinda when I was young! I'm charmed by her passion, her perseverance, and her good spirit. The stories of both her debut performance and her Paris visit are sure to keep both children and adults smiling and hopeful. She of the big feet dances with such grace!

A Great Little Book!
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 10 total.
Review Date: 2003-04-17
This is a great, great little book. One of the better ones in the Battleground America Series. The narrative is compelling and exciting, and gives a good detailed overview of the battle without being too technical and boring and reading like a textbook. This is a good account of the Bloody Angle battle, without having to read about the entire Spotsylvania campaign. The suggested reading chapter at the end also lists a valuable resource of references for further reading and learning and more technical volumes. Gettysburg perhaps steals a lot of the thunder of the other Civil War battles as compared to exposure and popularity, but the Spotsylvania battle, specifically the Bloody Angle fight, deserves a lot more attention and exposure than it gets. The Bloody Angle is important to Civil War history in that it ushered in a level of ferocity and brutality in Civil War combat that had never been seen prior to the Spotsylvania Campaign. It remains a unique and very exciting battle and hopefully there will be more written about it in the future.
