It does a great job of explaining the shoe fetish

I read this book a few years ago as well when I was doing research as a PsyD student. My thesis and research included this fetish and I found this book very useful, and singificant up to date from the older material available such as Psycho-Sexualis by Krafft and Ebbing. It was right on target and fun to read. The life of a true shoe fetishist is very intersting and very solo, but the life of shoe play incorporated into a sex life can be incredible with the right shoes. Although I never became a shoes only fetishist the experiments with women and their shoes turned out to be erotic and lots of fun. I only wish there was a sequal to this book with more current and explicit details for couples. My partner and I discovered so much more that can be done in play the book became a great starting point. Another discovery that we made was that although women do not share the same fetish as men they can, if open to experiment, share aspects of the fetish differently, but with just as much excitement and tension as men. As I have always felt, some designers of high fashion women's footwear may have utility in mind, (boring) but some designers "get it" and have a lot more in mind than utility when they design a woman's shoe or boot it is clearly to create sexual excitement.

I read this book many, many years ago and have always wanted to obtain my own copy, and to read it again. I found this book to be UTTERLY FASCINATING...., interesting and a good giggle in places. The author clearly knows his subject, and one learns, for instance, the mystery behind Cinderella's glass slipper. It is NOT only a book for people with foot fetishes. It's a great read and I would recommend it to anyone. I can assure you that after reading this book, you will start noticing the shoes people wear... as certain types of people wear certain types of shoes.... SO TRUE! I just LOVE men in BOOTS!! Read all about it for yourselves!!!! (It will probably make you rush out and buy "appropriate" shoes!!!

Stan Kent has created one of the most fascinating characters ever in Violetta Valery Cutrero. He takes us into an ever increasing world of thrilling madness. You won't be able to put this book down. It's fantastic!!!

Excellent; pushes the envelopes of both erotica and thriller

Even having read Kent's earlier fiction, "Shoe Leather" was so much more than I expected. Kent has managed to simultaneously expand the perameters of both the erotica and thriller genres, as well as introduce a lovable heroine with an ingenious "super-power," the likes of which neither genre has ever seen. Gripping, funny and genuinely tension-filled, "Shoe Leather" is groundbreaking in so many ways, I'm actually surprised a small publisher was daring enough to take a chance on putting it out. If Mr Kent hasn't yet written a script version, he needs to get right on it. Until then, I hope we can expect more adventures with Violetta.

It has been years since I read a book that could keep me so thoroughly entertained that I finished the whole thing in less than a week.

This book is a mystery, of sorts, whose characters have underlying connections so intricate you have no idea what's next nor do you see any of the trauma coming. All is revealed though and I guarantee a few audible gasps as the characters' links play out in a truly wild sequence of events.

It is a very funny book as it examines situations where you just have to laugh despite the drama. It emulates real life in that respect. Perhaps that is why it is so enthralling. And the bonus is in the end you should feel pretty darn good about yourself because your life is nowhere near as bad as a most of these characters. (Well, hopefully that is the case!)

Extremely well written. If I knew a darn thing about publishing, I'd be all over this book getting it out there because everyone should read it - at least once!

In fact, I kind of miss Gunny already (you'll know what I mean when you read the book).

Maybe it is time for a second read already.

True Americana

Goodin's description of life in Flint, Michigan, could describe many cities/towns across the U.S. His vivid descriptions enable the reader to visualize the scene as it is being read. Especially touching is his telling of the lives of an elderly couple, the Thomsons. Their story is a sad, but true, one about one spouse taking care of the other as if they were a small child. This story is full of the sarcastic humor comparable to that of Robert B. Parker. To me this story is a truer depiction of Americana than the politicians would have us believe. I am looking forward to Dan Goodin's next novel.

To quote the previous reviewer "Come New Years Eve, see who will be wearing the new shoes and read about who faltered along the way." I can't wait to get to the end of the book to find out. It's about a bet that the girls in the story have made with each other and it climaxes (maybe too descriptive?) on New Years. It's a wonderful story with likeable charaters. Hopefully there will be a sequel. I rate this 5 stars. I'm glad I stumbled on this book.

Based in modern day Portland, Oregon, Shoes Are Better Than Sex is a tale of Libby Odette and her two quirky roommates, Bridget and Rosalynn, and a $100 bet that put a ban on dating.

Tired of dating losers and dorks, Libby and her two roommates make a vow to each other that they will have no dates, no kissing, and absolutely no sex until the New Year. Last man (or woman, in this case) standing wins the $300 ante to spend on shoes to wear on her first date of the year. Along the way, we meet William, Everett and Jack, three buddies with a bet of their own, and hilarity ensues.

Ever play the driving game Slug Bug? How about strip Slug Bug? Or ever go an a blind date having your friend on standby to make the proverbial 'emergency phone call' to you so you can bail on the date, if needed? This story starts with such a date and follows the frolics of our roommates and boys through their trip to Sequim, Washington for Christmas and ends with the long trip home sidetracked by a game of Strip Slug Bug and unnerving hotel stay in the midst of 'Mark, the bellhop' whose antics alone only prove to solidify the relationships of our main characters.

Come New Years Eve, see who will be wearing the new shoes and read about who faltered along the way.

I highly recommend this novel for anyone looking for a fun, light-hearted love story.Shoes are Better than Sex

I think the author expressed the young school grader's emotional feeling well. They grow fast. But sometimes even I am caught to buy something more than I really need. And everyone does it everyday.
Angela is so cute and smart. IF she were my daughter, I would have bought her many shoes size 3 too.

My mother was given this book when she was a little girl an loved it, so naturally she read the book to me when I was little.
I was drawn in by the pictures and the lovable character Angela.
The story is about Angela, a young girl that loves shoes. However, her mother only believes she needs two pairs, one for church and one for school. So for Angela's birthday she asks everyone in hr family to send her a pair of shoes. And she gets tons of shoes.
The story is sweet and enjoyable for both the child and the parent to read together.

This paperback book is a treasure I'm glad to see is still available. In this day when most shoes are made in China or elsewhere, it's glorious to know that if motivated we still could make our own shoes. It's a fascinating book as well. The print looks like handwritten italic. Profuse and helpful illustrations.

Oh, what a different sort of guide to teaching playwriting! The author (and playwright and teacher) is clearly an expert at sharing the tools needed to write a stageworthy play. And she makes it fun, lots of fun. Like the best writers and teachers everywhere, Maureen Brady Johnson takes the everyday and makes it new -- whether it's a rock on a college campus where students paint (and repaint) messages, Halloween vampire teeth, or a shoe on the highway. Lessons are clearly described along with their objectives. Teachers and writers alike will soon find their copy of this book (like mine) dog-eared from use!

Inspired Ideas to Inspire Students

A veteran high school teacher provides intriguing and carefully developed exercises to inspire high school students in developing skills in playwriting. Maureen Brady Johnson's expertise in sparking student creativity is evidenced not only by the inspired exercises she's developed, but by the samples of student writings she includes. Starting with photographs of shoes abandoned on highways--which can be used as the starting point for monologues--Johnson nurtures her students as they develop monologues, then dialogues, then increasingly complex and sophisticated theatrical pieces. This is a book for all who work with creative writing workshops and courses--and for all who aspire to write themselves. The exercises are clearly and fully explained--and, to this university theatre professor, pedagogically sound. Highly recommended.

5 Blue Ribbons from Romance Junkies!

Review Date: 2008-11-02
Melanie Parsons is an exhibit curator at the Smithsonian. For the past few months, things going into her 20th century history exhibit have been disappearing. When securities officers are called after the latest museum robbery, Melanie is surprised to learn that Traditionalists are being suspected of foul play. Later that night, Melanie finds herself admitting Agent Torres into her home; not because of the robbery but because of the way he makes her feel. By allowing Brady to dominant her like she wishes, Melanie gives away the one thing she wanted to keep to herself; her feelings for Brady.

Securities agent Brady Torres has been waiting to make his move on Melanie. Not wanting to scare her with his needs, he has been waiting for her to advance their relationship further. That night after the robbery, when Brady arrives at Melanie's home, he is both surprised and aroused to find her ready to take that final step. Armed with handcuffs, Brady begins his seduction and domination; just like Melanie has dreamed he would do.

Brady is taken aback when he sees an antique wedding dress in Melanie's apartment. Finding out that it has been passed down through her family makes it even more of a surprise. The authorities think that the rash of thefts in the Smithsonian are being caused by Traditionalists; Brady thinks otherwise and needs Melanie's antique dress to prove it.

A SIXPENCE IN HER SHOE by Liz Andrews is a delicious, naughty read. The sparks that fly between Brady and Melanie are combustible and I quickly found myself immersed in their story. Fully anticipating and just knowing who was behind the robberies, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I was wrong. There is nothing better than when an author stumps a reader, and Liz Andrews got me on this one. As for her hero and heroine? Their interactions with each other left me almost to the point of needing a glass of ice water they were so hot. I love a dominant man and fell in love with Brady immediately.

A SIXPENCE IN HER SHOE is the perfect culmination to the Wedding Dress series. While it is strong enough to stand alone, I recommend reading the prior two books of the series from Samhain first. Well written and totally captivating, I have gladly placed A SIXPENCE IN HER SHOE on my keeper shelf. Liz Andrews is now an author whose books I look forward to reading in the future. As this is the first novel she has penned alone, I have to say that she has written a winner in my book and I couldn't be more proud by having read it!

The year is 2089. Melanie Parsons works in the history department of the Smithsonian museum. Several items have been stolen recently so agent Brady Torres arrives from United Americas Securities to investigate. Brady and Melanie are dating and things are going well but neither has shared their sexual desires with the other. Little do they know, their desires match.

When Melanie becomes a suspect in the missing artifacts Brady refuses to believe that Melanie is to blame, but his superiors believe that her family of Traditionalists are likely suspects in the crime. Brady decides to use Melanie's family heirloom wedding dress to trap the criminals. Will they be able to catch the crooks and keep the wedding dress safe?

A Sixpence In Her Shoe combines an exciting mystery with steamy sex. Brady is very sexy and Melanie is sweet and sultry. Whether it's in the bedroom or on a desk, the heat they create is scorching! I loved the strong connection between Brady and Melanie. A Sixpence In Her Shoe is a good story with great characters.

I used Sociodrama: Who's In Your Shoes? for the textbook for the graduate course I taught at Kansas State University. It was the textbook when Patricia Sternberg taught the course at Hunter. The authors, Patricia Sternber and Antonina Garcia are master practitioners and trainers. No one explains sociodrama better. In this book, they have shown how sociodrama can be a valuable tool for therapists, educators, and trainers. This is a truly inspiring and comprehensible read.

Reviewed by Brianne Plach (age 10) for Reader Views (11/07)

Have you ever lost a toy which you really loved? That is what Nate felt like. He was mad because he lost his mate. What good is it to be alone especially if you are a roller skate or a shoe? What kind of a future would you have? You would probably be facing going out in the trash and becoming a resident of the landfill.

Nate was a special skate. He was made by Joey's grandpa with a very special sole which was very giving and friendly. Nate looks for help among the other shoes, but most of them aren't very friendly; some are even snobby. Nate searched high and low for his mate. But he and the other discards are feeling very low and useless. Through the text of the story you begin cheering for Nate that he will find his mate. There are cool places where Nate ends up searching like Recycle City and Mentry Shoes.

The pages in this book are glossy and very expressive. The expressions on the faces of the other shoes or characters really add to the delight of this book. Even the garbage can and fire hydrant have facial expressions. I think this is a fantastic book for kids who ever have felt like they are useless and have ever lost a shoe or a toy. If you like a good story about a little guy coming out on top, you will love it. "Sole Shoes: Nate the Skate In Search of His Mate" is a great book with a lot of soul, humor and rock and roll!

Imaginatively authored and colorfully illustrated by Judy Jewel in a cartoon style, Sole Shoes: Nate The Skate In Search Of His Mate is the fun tale of Nate's search for his matching mate. Following the brave little roller skate through his adventurous pursuit of his companion skate, Nate The Skate In Search Of His Mate is also the story of the wonderful friendships he makes including Barry the trash can, Hydro the fire hydrant, and an intriguing cast of many other interesting characters. Young readers will become completely involved in this original picturebook story from first page to last, making Nate The Skate In Search Of His Mate a very highly recommended addition to school and community library collections for its creative story of friendship, value, and hope.
