This book is very cuteReview Date: 2005-09-07
The story is also very cute. It follows the story of the woman who lived in a shoe with far too many children, only in this case it's a family of mice. The story explains how the baby mice don't help with any of the chores which isn't very nice to the mommy mouse. The mom talks to her kids and sets some rules, then the shoe stays clean with everyone's help and the baby mice can still have fun even though they're now helping to clean. The story moves very quickly with only a few lines of text per page. Everything rhymns which makes it flow even faster.
Of course the big feature in this book are the cutout pages. As you read one page, there are little windows that let you look at the next page to see what's coming. My 19 month old daughter loves to use these cutouts to help turn the pages. This is a very cute story that's very ell presented.

falls into the latter catagory, but morphes into the former at an early age. Life's lessons come in many forms and "Little Brown Shoes" by Shannon Young is a poignant read. (Have a tissue ready.)
Children of all ages can learn and/or be reminded that
charity has its own reward and the lives we touch might be forever changed through unselfish acts. "Shoes" deserves another life in a longer study. Here's hoping Shannon Young will bring back
another and another in the magical, whimsical life of Little Brown Shoes".

FIRR-Kids! ReviewReview Date: 2008-11-11
The illustrations are bright and cheery - lots of bright pinks, purples and reds. I like her scale - Lulu's head is oversized for her body, and on some pages the shoes are larger to draw your attention. On a whole it comes off as funky and young.
This back cover proclaims it to be "the perfect book for shoe-obsessed toddlers." I didn't realize there were shoe-obsessed toddlers, but I think your average touch, poke, and prod toddler would enjoy this book. Maybe this is already obvious, but I would caution this book is geared to girls rather than boys/girls alike.

A lovely book on the joys of creating a happy home.Review Date: 1998-11-14
Divided into three sections, Wife, House and Family, the book covers these traditional concerns with chapters on higher education for women, thrift as a philosophy, children's literature, hospitality and keeping up with the Joneses.
A quick and enjoyable read, this book makes even the most devoted career-minded woman take a moment to savor the ways in which to improve one's home, meals and family life. This is one of those books that I pull out and reread over and over again when it is time to get some perspective on what's important in life. A truly wonderful book that while slightly dated--is never out of style!
