A Book Every Father Will Love

Review Date: 2008-10-21
If you love stories about fathers and their sons; if you like life stories woven into Biblical truths that will make you think, read this book. Because when you read this book, it will become obvious why it was written. Out of the heart of a father comes "In My Shoes", a book that will make you laugh, cry and think long and hard about God's Word for you as a father. It will both encourage and challenge you to model a walk with Christ that your sons will want to emulate. The stories shared in this book, taken from real experiences with each of Randy's sons, are genuine and heart-felt and relevant. What impressed me more than the stories themselves was the spiritual depth from which Randy relates the stories to biblical truths. I found myself doing a number of mental nods as I read this book ... I also found myself reading it from cover to cover in one sitting. I couldn't put it down! Any father who desires to raise their sons to love Christ should read this book.

A MUST HAVE for Young Fathers!

I gave this book to my husband shortly after it came out and he absolutely LOVED it. And he is NOT one who will normally read a parenting book! He has even told me to give this as a gift to every father we know for the holiday season. Kudos to Mr. Winton!!

Tim O'Brien follows familiar patterns in most of his stories, long and short. It is these patterns that are explored here in regard to communication amongst and between foot soldiers in Vietnam. This is a well-researched book, and one that I recommend highly for all afficianados of Tim O'Brien and the craft of writing in general.

No Batteries Required

I love the books by Charles Reasoner (and so does my toddler) they are unlike any other because each one is packed with things to discover and have excellent illustrations. Each page has the mice doing various different things and it's fun to point to a mouse and ask "what is this one doing", and then it becomes a game. We also love the fact that the story rhymes and is interactive without batteries! (PS I bought this at Wal-Mart for around $3!).

This book is very cute

This book is a great idea and well executed. First, the illustrations are fantastic! Very bright and cheery and incredibly cute.

The story is also very cute. It follows the story of the woman who lived in a shoe with far too many children, only in this case it's a family of mice. The story explains how the baby mice don't help with any of the chores which isn't very nice to the mommy mouse. The mom talks to her kids and sets some rules, then the shoe stays clean with everyone's help and the baby mice can still have fun even though they're now helping to clean. The story moves very quickly with only a few lines of text per page. Everything rhymns which makes it flow even faster.

Of course the big feature in this book are the cutout pages. As you read one page, there are little windows that let you look at the next page to see what's coming. My 19 month old daughter loves to use these cutouts to help turn the pages. This is a very cute story that's very ell presented.

Unspoiling an Angel

All chidren are Angels to those who love them. The fact is they may be spoiled rotten as viewed by those who don't. Cassandra
falls into the latter catagory, but morphes into the former at an early age. Life's lessons come in many forms and "Little Brown Shoes" by Shannon Young is a poignant read. (Have a tissue ready.)
Children of all ages can learn and/or be reminded that
charity has its own reward and the lives we touch might be forever changed through unselfish acts. "Shoes" deserves another life in a longer study. Here's hoping Shannon Young will bring back
another and another in the magical, whimsical life of Little Brown Shoes".

My Childhood Poem

My favorite aunt, Aunt Martha entertained me as a toddler with this poem for the four short years I knew her. It was not until I stumbled across it at the age of 20 while doing research in college that I remembered how I loved this poem. This book allows me to beautifully share this poem with my child, the first member of my family born outside of Cuba or Spain. I am thrilled to have found it in a form a child will readily enjoy - great illustrations, I hope my daughter will grow to enjoy the beauty of the poetry through the years.

i liked the book because it talks about poetry.

FIRR-Kids! Review

Review Date: 2008-11-11
Do you have a touchy feely toddler? Meet Lulu. This lucky girl displays a gamut of footwear - from glittery high heels to fuzzy bunny slippers. There is plenty your child can participate in: flaps to be lifted, a shoelace to tie, plus five other textures to enjoy. It's definitely a book that encourages the touch of a toddler.

The illustrations are bright and cheery - lots of bright pinks, purples and reds. I like her scale - Lulu's head is oversized for her body, and on some pages the shoes are larger to draw your attention. On a whole it comes off as funky and young.

This back cover proclaims it to be "the perfect book for shoe-obsessed toddlers." I didn't realize there were shoe-obsessed toddlers, but I think your average touch, poke, and prod toddler would enjoy this book. Maybe this is already obvious, but I would caution this book is geared to girls rather than boys/girls alike.

Great book!

This is my 2 year old daughter's favorite book. It's a quick, easy read. The illustrations are great. It has interactive features such as velcro shoes, shoe laces, & different textures. I would highly recommend it for any girly girl out there.

A lovely book on the joys of creating a happy home.

Review Date: 1998-11-14
This book, while written decades ago as the women's movement was in its infancy, still has much to offer today's woman. Ms. McGinley, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, writes a book devoted to the "world's oldest (and most honorable) profession" that of housewife.

Divided into three sections, Wife, House and Family, the book covers these traditional concerns with chapters on higher education for women, thrift as a philosophy, children's literature, hospitality and keeping up with the Joneses.

A quick and enjoyable read, this book makes even the most devoted career-minded woman take a moment to savor the ways in which to improve one's home, meals and family life. This is one of those books that I pull out and reread over and over again when it is time to get some perspective on what's important in life. A truly wonderful book that while slightly dated--is never out of style!

While I didn't agree with everything in this book, I agreed with most of it. I liked it so much I bought copies for several of my sahm friends. It is a sweet and practical book, friendly and cheering as cookies and tea. It's not the only homemaking book you should own, but it should certainly be among the top twenty.

hi there. i wanted to give a review on marion's magicshoes. this book puts back the fantasy in a child mind. there are somany violent books out there for kids to read. i feel this book will keep the young child interested just as those others books would.keep up the GREAT work wanda, because these types of books are what we need our children to start reading instead of all the violent ones. i think it deserves a five star rating. in my opinion all children should read it sometime. they would enjoy it once they started reading it! GREAT WORK!

A fantastic fantasy of a young boy and a special friend who needs help to get back to his fantasy world. Marion is granted one wish for helping his friend. You will be very curious to find out what the boy wished for. It kept me reading to find out the boy's wish and it will you too! Marion travels to a far off unknown world. It's a treat to find out what goes on there and the type of characters displayed. This book is a must read for children of all ages! You will truly enjoy this short story.

Whether you personally like Howard Dean or not is beside the point: he has moved the Democratic Party light years into the future. If you're a Democrat, you should understand that history in order to honor it. If you're a Republican, you should understand that history in order to surpass it. And if you're a Nader supporter, have I got a bone to pick with you . . .

This is an excellent book, and will be interesting to anyone who cares about political organizing and democratic power. It is a very unusual political memoir, written by people who participated at all levels of the campaign, each of whom speaks from his or her own point of view. The authors offer frank, searching assessments of the campaign's many successes and failures. They also tell wonderfully compelling stories drawn from both the heights and depths of the movement.

My 4 1/2 year old loves this book! She wants to read it every night. Her favorite part is when the principal jumps in to help. I have to read those pages over and over again. You'll be amazed at how your child wants to help Mrs Toggle as well.

Lots of fun to read!!!

Mrs. Toggle needs help from the children in her class to get back her lost shoe. What will she do? Mrs. Toggle stories are really fun to read. Great to read to a class and would make a really nice gift for a teacher. "Mrs. Toggle's zipper" is also a nice book and really cute story. There are a couple of sentences per page. Very nice illustrations.
