This book is great. My child used this book (along with the prep course) and increased an already good score by 140 points. In addition to proven test taking tips, this book offers substantial math sections, 100 top SAT words and Latin word roots. The book is written in a much more entertaining style than the usual dry test prep books and even features cartoons to illustrate the vocabulary words. I would absolutely recommend this book!

My son increased his SAT scores 600 points from his PSAT results that he took before starting Marcy Manning's program! This book maximized his efforts by providing what he needed to study and strategies for how to study and test taking. The clever illustrations made studying fun. Being able to use this information in other academic areas is an added bonus. Two of my children have used this book with stellar results raising their SAT scores hundreds of points. I highly recommend this book.

This book has been super helpful in preparing my husband for boot camp- physically and mentally. The only problem is that we've learned that after the publishing of this book a lot changed in army boot camp. At first my husband was interested in joining the national guard, but in order to go to a boot camp like what is described in this book, he has to choose a different branch of military.

This guide is awesome.

If you haven't been to boot camp, this book is a must. It has mostly everything you need to know to prepare yourself. From what not to say & do in front of a drill sergeant to how to get your body ready for the physical challenge. Give yourself a jump on the things you must memorize so you could do something else with your time while going through boot camp.

Again a great book for gardening with kids. For example a sunflower house, pizza garden, a garden of giants, and a water garden. The neat thing is that you spend time gardening with your children and the kids get to enjoy playing in what they have grown.

Gardening -- an act of faith in the planet

Nothing takes the sting out of winter like planning a garden. And if you have children, or have the prospect of rounding up a few on loan when spring comes, this book will warm you all the way through. Author Sharon Lovejoy (Sunflower Houses : Inspiration from the Garden - A Book for Children and Their Grown-Ups and Trowel and Error: Over 700 Tips, Remedies and Shortcuts for the Gardener) gave us a treasure trove of ideas for good "clean" fun in her 1991 classic, Roots, Shoots, Buckets & Boots: Gardening Together with Children (Gardening together with children).

Lovejoy gives detailed directions for a number of garden projects that kids are sure to love, from a Pizza Patch to a Sunflower House to a Flowery Maze. While her garden is in California, I think most of her planting suggestions would work in my colder zone. She weaves in snippets of poetry, folklore, mythology, and of course some basic botany and horticulture. Pure magic! What child could resist a mini-garden planted in an old boot or glove? or the scarecrow and worm box projects? or Mother Nature's Tea Party? Nature-based crafts and activities abound. Children are too often alienated from the wonders of nature -- and doesn't the future of the planet depend on their connection with its simple bounty?

Do choose your plants carefully to avoid toxic elements, and supervise in accordance with the youngsters' ages. And if you live in the Southern hemisphere, remember that when you stand in your garden at noon the shadows point south, not north. Whether you're an experienced gardener or a novice, all you need to know is here in Lovejoy's charmingly illustrated, jam-packed book. Recommended if you want to unleash your creativity and delight a child -- or yourself. I've been reacquainting myself with this old friend because it's on my Christmas list for the nieces and nephews. Five stars and highly recommended.

This is a very interesting book, written by an LAPD officer, looking back on his first year on the force, as a 'Boot,' which is what they call their rookies.

Dunn's book is by far the most interesting LAPD autobiography that I've read so far. He takes the reader straight inside some of the most dangerous and fascinating streets of Los Angeles.

I read this book years ago when it came out in hard back. It really helped me understand what my son was going through as a police officer. I just bought it again to give to a friend who's son is coming back from Afghanistan and wants to join LAPD, and I read it before passing it along because he says he added a few new tales. It is a fun, and fascinating book to read, and i recommend it for every young person who wants to be a police officer, or any mom who wants to know what their kids are going through thier first year out.

I've also just completed the book "Gangs of Los Angeles", a candid look into the world of LA street gangs. I've done my best to retell their history and explain their culture in a way only an LA street cop with gang expertise could.

I first read this book when I was in High School I thought it was great, few weeks later I joined the LAPD Harbor's Division Explorer Scouts. One day while working at the station I met Sgt. Feula (a character mentioned on the book) I was very surprised, he did not know his name was mentioned on the book. He took me on several ride-alongs and I learned alot from him few months later I shipped out for the Military, he retired and I never heard of him:.... ///Sergeant Feula if you ever see this messege; thank you for everything, day by day I get closer and closer to become an LAPD officer, I will take what I learned from you and put it to use... I just finished reading this book and Jennifer June educates as well as entertains. Being new to the boot phenomena I am grateful for her ability to open my eyes to the art that is boot making; it's astounding what these artisans can do with leather. The photography is breathtaking as it captures the colors, stitching and tooling that goes into a pair of boots. I guess you can tell by now that I highly recommend this boot - allow your senses to open up to the art of boot making!

This book is pure enjoyment. It doesn't matter if you are new to cowboy boots or have worn them forever, the images and the thoughts this book provokes will delight you. Cowboy Boots: The Art & Sole will captivate your attention. It made me remember wearing cowboy boots and playing in the neighborhood with my friends during a time that our parents weren't so concerned for our safety and well-being. We had play gun fights and used our bikes as horses. We were the modern day cowboys in our little town in Indiana. Cowboy boots are a part of the American culture and one of the many things that makes us unique in today's small world. Ms. June's book will take you back to those memories that you forgot but are warm and pleasant to recall...especially with all that is going on in our lives today. You will also be awed by the craftsmanship in boot-makers. Many people may not realize there are men and women that hold to the traditional ways of making a boot by hand. After reading this book, you will never forget a new artist is out there and their canvas is on someone's feet.

What struck me most about this book was the author's enthusiasm for her subject. It is hard not to get caught up in cowboy boot lore when Jennifer June so clearly loves what she is writing about. The liveliness of her text is a tribute to the original cowboys.

I really appreciated the small, quirky details, such as the origin of different western icons. This book is great way for a novice to learn all about cowboy boots, as well as for boot lovers, who want some new ideas for designing their next pair of custom boots. The pictures are stellar as well, with lots of great close-ups

Though they may have had a utilitarian start, cowboy boots have almost always been a canvas on which to display the skill of the bootmaker and the personality of the owner. "Cowboy Boots: The Art & Sole" by Jennifer June captures this spirit wonderfully, with rich photos and knowledgeable writing. Like many of the bootmakers and boot-wearers quoted in her text, June is a devotee of the boot and her passion for her subject comes through in these pages.

As diverse as the people who wear them, the boots featured here are not easily classified. Some are classic designs while others are quite modern. Some are understated designs of exceptional craftsmanship, while others are over-the-top in colors and stitching ... but equally fine handiwork. Many of these boots (again, like the people who wear them?) have never been near ranch or range in their lives, but actual workin' cowboy boots worn by actual workin' cowboys show up as well. In all, it makes for entertaining browsing as well as informative reading.

Perhaps best of all, though, June includes a section of "Resources" that allow the reader to investigate owning some quality boots of her own. Maybe we can't all afford the exotic leathers or extremes of design, but a solidly-constructed boot from a good designer is still within reach. I can attest to the satisfaction that comes from owning a good pair of cowboy boots, and it was a joy to discover many other people who share that feeling, and the artists who make it possible, in this spirited and entertaining book.

This book does an excellent job in teaching the keys of IT sales. The author has worked for Novell and other big technology companies, and he reflects that with good examples of several sales situations during the negotiation phase. You should have this if you want to achieve million dollar quotas.

There's also another book out there called "How To Sell Technology" by a guy called DiModico. It's ok for people with no experience in sales that want explanations of the basic sales processes, people types and all that stuff. Best wishes for your sales careers.

I've been in sales for 15 years. I'm a learner and I've read many of the books and been to the popular seminars on sales (Strategic Selling, Selling Solutions etc.). I just got into the IT sales field last year and highly recommend this book. This book is a solid, no-hype approach to complex selling. It gives me a blueprint to follow, it's very accurate for today's technology challanges and I found it easy to read as well! I usually don't recommend stuff but this book is a real "secret" weapon.

The concept and fundamental ideals of selling in an I.T. arena that were taught and express in the book enabled me to land the job. I believe that the knowledge that I gain from I.T.Sales Boot Camp made the different in my interview.

As opposed to most "hot new" sales approaches which focus on changing your personal style, this book does a great job of providing a strategic step-by-step plan from A-Z. It's void of fluff and gets right to the point of outlining the nuts and bolts of the process including pre-sales planning, performance tracking, maintaining growth, and writing proposals. It's worth reading in general and especially for those migrating into tech sales.

The book is 6 years old, yet the topics covered here is still useful for any entrepreneur to get $$ from venture capitals (VC):

1.Borrow $$ from friends/relatives to build a prototype
2.Beta test this on large and small firms, to build up clients
3.Build a better product/service based upon their feedbacks
4.Write a concise business plan with killer PowerPoint slides
5.Get the insider VC to arrange meetings
6.Answer intelligently on any VC concerns
7.Get the $$$, start the firm
8.Grow the firm for 3-5 years with track records
9.IPO and make Billion$$$

Sounds like a great formula! But this is 2007, VC is not the only game in town. They are Private Equity, Hedge Funds, Debt Financing, many other avenues to get $$$. Rob Ryan, are you contacting them?

Very informative and through!

Rob have wrote a book that should have been use during the crazy internet start- up era. Maybe all those companies would be thriving if they have gone through Rob's boot camp. Ok maybe not all of them but I feel that 80% of the dot com companies may be still existence.

I am still working on my hi-tech company but I have not been able to because they are not up to my standards. I got good ideas but I am just not feeling ready to go solict for funding just yet.

But anyway this is a great book! Rob gives a lot of good information that you would normally pay big money for a consultant to tell you the same thing!!

...is that it's not out in paperback so that I can buy 50 copies and give them out to people to show them why I babble on about it. Rob Ryan's "Entrepreneur America" is the *single most practical* book about entrepreneurship you will find on the market today.

Rob founded Ascend, and he tells you exactly how he did it. And even though Ascend was a pure technology play, his lessons are broad enough that they can be applied to non-technical inspirations as well.

Kudos also go here to Phaedra Hise. She has captured the voice, verve and essence of Rob Ryan and got him down cold on paper. Quite an achievement.

Big rich photo detail (that many baby-boomers will appreciate.) The cowoby boots in this book are the closest you'll ever find to life-size.

Tyler Beard asked America's finest bootmakers to send him their most spectacular boots...and they did, many remarkable pairs were made especially for this book. These new and vintage cowboy boots range from wowzie-zowie to "museum-quality." No pair could be counted as plain, or the least bit ordinary.

This book is a must for every collector. Tyler gives an unmatched, detailed history of cowboy boots and portrays the life and lore of America's top bootmakers. (A few who have since retired or passed on.) This book is one of my favorites.

In 1992 THE COWBOY BOOT BOOK was published to celebrate this fact; since then the number of boot-makers around the country has nearly doubled. ART OF THE BOOT combines Jim Arndt's lovely color photos throughout with in-depth surveys of the companies and bootmakers involved. Highly recommended for any with an interest in cowboy culture or boots.

Beware the Fish is one of our favourite books. The story is very clever. One of our favourite parts of the book was when Elmer was singing about science and math. Another good part was when Elmer's cold cure was put in Coach Flynn's drink. It made him so drunk that he ran aroud in his underwear and asked Miss Scrimmage to dance. The book was great because it was funny and it will make you laugh. A fabulous story!! Ryan "Rhino" Mills, Shawn "Slam Dunk" Pascal, Jeff "Gretzky" Hay, Pemberton British Columbia, Canada.

The author of my book Beware The Fish! is Gordon Korman. Gordon Korman wrote his first book This Can't Be Happening At MacDonald Hall! as a Grade 7 english project. In my book Beware The Fish the main characters are Bruno Walton and Boots O'Neal. They are kind hearted teenagers but like to play tricks. Boots has blond hair and blue and Bruno has brown hair and brown eyes. They live at MacDonald Hall, a boarding school for Boys in Ontario, Canada. They are roommates in Room 306, Dormatory 3. The problem is MacDonald Hall is closing! Bruno, Boots, and the rest of the students want to save the school. They decide to get publicity by getting the school on TV. They decide to set a world record to get publicity. They try to build the world's largest popcan tower. The way they get the school is very funny! I liked the book because I have read 3 other Bruno and Boots books and this is the second best book. I liked the author because Gordon Korman makes me laugh in different ways. A strengh is that Gordon Korman taught me that teamwork achives your goals, hopes, and maybe your dreams. A weakness is that people sometimes think that humor books have nonthing to teach you about the meaning of life. Now I have 2 questions for Gordon Korman. Why did you pick the names Bruno and Boots for your main characters? Why did you make a series of them? I loved this book and I would read it 10 more times.

This book is one of the best I have ever read. It creates the feeling that you actually are THERE, with the characters, experiencing everything they do. At the end of the book... well, I won't spoil the ending for anyone who hasn't read it, but it makes you feel as though you helped, and get to join in the celebration rightfully.

Read this book. While you're at it, read the rest of the series. You won't be let down.

The title of my book is Bruno and Boots, Go Jump In The Pool and the author is Gordon Korman. This book is about 2 boys named Bruno and Boots who go to Macdonald Hall.(A boarding school.) They want to have a swimming pool like their like their enemies who go York Academy. Bruno, Boots and all their friends and classmates have to raise 25,000$ in order to have a pool.At the beginning Mr.Sturgeon (The head of the school,) likes the idea of have having a pool like the York Academy. The only reason the students at Macdonald Hall wants a swimming pool is because they do not like swimming with York Academy and if they don't get one Boots will have to go to York Academy. I think Bruno And Boots Go Jump In The Pool is a good, funny book.I think Gordon Korman is a good author. This is my first Gordon Korman book that I have ever read and I realy enjoyed it. I uasually read books by Ann.M. Martin.I think that Gordon Korman is good at thinking up great ideas for books. If I were Gordon Korman I would make 3 things different.1.Boots go to York Academy and Bruno goes to Macdonald Hall but they are still best friends,2.Bruno and Boots both have pets, and3.Call Boots by his real name.I would call Boots his real name Melvin because I think the name Boots sounds like a cat's name. I would recomand this book to anyone who likes to read.I think kids in grade four, five, or six would realy like this book.I liked this book. BY CLAIRE LEDERMAN

This is one of the best in the extremely funny and well-done Bruno and Boots series by Gordon Korman.

Bruno and Boots find themselves trying to raise money so that MacDonald Hall can have a swimming pool, and their efforts are fueld by a sense of competition with a neighboring institution. They try everything from playing the stock market to erecting a toll booth, and the wacky cast of supporting characters (including my favorite, science nerd Eelmer Drimsdale) offers up plenty of yuks.

Some of the best material comes in the midst of a talent show that Bruno and Boots put on, with predictably entertaining (and somewhat disastrous) results.

Written very early in Korman's career (which began well before he graduated high school), this book is one of the ones upon which his reputation for humor and well-paced novels was based. As a new, fresh writer, Korman showed that he had something to say, and young readers everywhere were all ears.

It is true that his characters can be cartoonish, and the actions often stray from the realm of believability, but you just have to accept that as part of the fun.

This is a great book to cut your Korman-teeth on. You're guaranteed to find it entertaining.

My favourite Gordon Korman book!

There is no one in the world who does not love Gordon Korman's novels. Even my dad, who is almost 50 years old, laughs hysterically when he reads them. I don't just laugh while I'm reading them, I laugh whenever I even THINK about them! This is my very favourite book by Gordon Korman. I loved the whole Bruno and Boots series, but I thought this one was the best. Gordon Korman has this great way of working up to a climax, and finishing the book in a totally bizarre and hilarious way. My favourite character is The Fish - there are so many great descriptions of him! Great book - you have to read it, whether you're a fourth grader or a college graduate. No one is too old for Bruno and Boots!

The author of my book Go Jump in the Pool,is Gordon Korman.Gordon Korman's book's are just about humour, and he started writing his first book in grade 7. In my book,Go Jump in the Pool, the main characters are Boots and Bruno. Boots is a teenager he has short blond hair and Bruno is a teenager with short brown hair.Bruno's and Boots personalitys are mischief makers, funny, they like to laugh, they are loyol firends, and they are kind.Boots and Bruno are two boys who live at MacDonald Hall.MacDonald Hall is a bording school for boys.Across the the road theres a bording school for girls. Once every few monthes MacDonald Hall students will race York Academy to see which school's the fastest at swimming.York Academy has there own pool and MacDonald Hall doesn't have a pool. York Academy always wins but it's not really fair because York Academy their own pool.York Academy is a boys bording school too.So Boots and Bruno are trying to raisea lot of money to buy a pool for MacDonald Hall. They get in a lot of mischief while trying to raise all the money. You will have to read Go Jump in the Pool if you want to find out if they raise it all or not. I liked this book because its fun to read its fun to read because Boots and Bruno are trying to raise money for the school they get in troble. And when they get in troble they always get in troble by doing something funny.I realy like Gordan Korman books.
