Iron shirt chi kung is a must for every martial artist. The author explains in detail how to apply rooting to the ground, how to apply abdominal breathing, why is an upright positioning important and why only from a relaxed body and mind one can generate maximum power.
Excellent book!

I believe that Mr. Chia's book is the clearest explanation of the legendary Iron Shirt technique (and how to train it) ever presented in written form. Ignore some of the new-age froo-froo stuff and dig into the meat of the book. It's all there...the real information you've been seeking.

As a practitioner of old style Yang tai chi I found this book invaluable in extending my knowledge of iron shirt chi gung. Technically, tai chi can be considered a combination of medium and small circle martial chi gung, but it also includes a lot of iron shirt practices as well. Essentially a form of Taoist yoga, it is finally being discovered and is receiving the attention it deserves in the west. Whether you ascribe to the more esoteric aspects of chi theory or not, the physical and and health benefits of iron shirt chi kung are substantial and can be enjoyed by anyone willing to put some effort into it. Overall, a fine book and worth your time and money.

A good source of info for Real Estate & Property managers

I find this guide a be a great source of information for Realtors and Property Managers, from the novice to the old line pros. It covers the many faucets of sales, maintenance and the administration of real property. As a property manager I find it most helpful in my everyday work. The charts and graphs have been great assets in preparing my maintenance directives and checklists. The sections dealing with security and environmental issues have been very helpful in the preparation of various directives. Bell's Guide truly covers real estate from AtoZ and has found a definite spot on my desktop as one of my most important reference sources.

Very informative for homeowners.

This is a handy little reference - basically a pocket encyclopedia of real estate. I find it useful as a homeowner and even more so as I consider making a change to a new home.

EXCELLENT REFERENCE FOR BUYING/SELLING A HOME

I found this book to be very easy to read and quick for referencing the topics covered. While it may have been designed for use by Real Estate agents and other professionals, as a homeowner (and buyer/seller at different times in life) it includes solid information on repairs, safety and security , mortgaging and keeping property in top value. The next time I move, the charts will be helpful in keeping a focus and going through the process in an organized manner. In the interim, the finance section is helpful in watching opportunities to refinance or restructure my mortgage. I would recommend the book to anyone who owns or who is thinking of owning a home or other property.

These are the best shirts!!! Quality is great and so is the seller. I received these just before Christmas for my husband and wrapped them up. One of our dogs thought it was a toy and dragged the package outside, unwrapped it and proceeded to play with the shirts in the dirt!!!! I washed them and they came out beautiful, no lasting stains, and they really hold their shape...will definitely buy more!

A Great Beginning to Sew Book

Review Date: 2008-12-14
My eight year old granddaughter has been pestering her Mother to teach her to sew. She wants to be a fashion designer and has a large book of sketches. I read the reviews of many sewing books before deciding on this one. I haven't given it to my granddaughter yet, but I have read it and I think it is just what she needs. Clea Hantman had done a good job of spelling out the very basic beginning steps in sewing and in devising projects that are so simple that gratification is almost instant. Her breezy writing style and Azadeh Haushyar's whimsical illustrations enhance the fun.

This book is good for any girl who wants to add some spark to dull clothes. In "I Wanna Make My Own Clothes" not all of the projects involve sewing. The largest category is tee shirts. If you don't know how to sew or don't have the equipment, it shows you where to get the supplies and how to sew step by step. The age range for this book shoould be 8-15.

A great introduction to state political history

Review Date: 2008-07-04
In "The Paradox of Tarheel Politics", veteran reporter Rob Christensen, of the Raleigh News and Observer, provides a stellar addition to the pantheon of North Carolina political works.

This book is a must read for any politician, journalist, activist, observer or just plain interested party. Christensen deserves a medal for making the subject matter approachable to the layman. As an historical work, the book ranks among the most active and engaging stories in recent memory.

Perhaps a testament to the editors Christensen has had in his career, the prose is engaging and full of energy. There is hardly a weak spot in the entire book. Whether the reader is on vacation with hours on end or a casual nighttime bookworm reading a few pages a night, "The Paradox of Tarheel Politics" is sure to capture and hold their attention.

My take on this book is that it can easily be made into a screenplay. I can see this story on the big screen. The Hammond sisters & their friend, Gabby, run a romantic adventure dating service, with their own love stories unfolding along the way. Toss in a hunky pirate for comic relief. Definitely, the makings of a good date movie. Pirate Shirt Dot Com held my interest from cover to cover.

I happened to get this title as a Christmas present and, though I am not usually a fan of romance novels, I decided to give it a shot. What a fun surprise! Witty, delightful, and sexy, this book simultaneously evokes romance novel archetypes and pokes a little fun at them at well. I hope there is a sequel!

I ordered this book as a birthday gift for my son for two reasons: one, he's a disaster in the kitchen, and two, if not for Ramen noodles, the child would starve.

The book includes more than 150 recipes, only 14 of which are for Ramen. Chapters include recipes for drinks, sandwiches, and surprisingly sophisticated--but still simple to prepare--entrees, salads and desserts. These recipes will work as well for cooks-in-a-hurry as for culinary novices. Microwave and crock pot dishes will not only be life-savers, but may very well become the favorite dishes novice chefs feed their own kids someday.

Author Deb Puente (Elegantly Easy Creme Brulee) includes such vital basics as how long different foods can be stored, cooking terms, and lists of basic kitchen equipment and suggested items for stocking pantry and fridge. She even offers safety tips such as how to avoid food poisoning and how to check pots of boiling things without scalding the skin off your face.

This is a great book for fledglings fresh from the nest, newlyweds, and people whose children think the smoke alarm is a dinner bell.

But my darling son will have to get his own copy. I'm keeping this one!

I recieved this book as a gift when I moved into my first apartment. So far it has been a great help with tons of usful information and recipes that are easy to use and understand. My favorite part is the Food Storage Index in the back. I am constantly looking at the best way to store foods. I highly recommend this book for anyone getting their first kitchen and just starting to learn how to cook.

I wish this book had been around many years ago when I learned to cook. I would have been spared the pain of burning myself, the expense of the doctor bills and the embarrassment of my family laughing at me. Puente, known for her to-die-for desserts, attends to the needs of novices, addressing such subjects as using oven mitts, having appropriate utensils, and easy, tasty recipes for every occasion. I'll give this book to my college-aged nieces and nephews--and heck, maybe even to my own grown children. Couldn't hurt. Thanks a million, Debbie, for writing this book.

DeskRef by Thomas Glover is an amazing compliation of information. My initial reaction was "Oh gee... That's kind of interesting, but I'm not sure when I'd use the information." BOY WAS I WRONG! The first time I need a formula, I turned to the DeskRef and there it was. I began to pay closer attention to the infomation contained in the book and now I don't know how I survived without it.

It contains useful formulas and well as material specifications. The collecting of the information in one volume is extremely helpful. I no longer have to search for data from multiple books.

I strongly recommend this book to engineers, designers, and specifiers. It is a concise and valuable resource.

Glover has piled tons of information into one excellent book

Desk Ref is one sweet book. It is part encyclopedia, part trivia tome, part entertainment and part dispute-solver. Buried in the various tables and charts are tons of data and facts to aid the rider, roadside mechanic or budding MacGyver.

Let's say you are riding in Colorado, and want to know how much to re-jet. You simply go to the chapter on air & gases (p. 13) and learn that air pressure @ 10,000 ft is approx. 70% of mean standard air pressure.

Lose your owner's manual? In Chapter 2 (p. 25) you can find a torque level to safely reinstall 12mm spark plugs in an aluminum head (18-22 ft-lbs.) Settle that tavern bet over the codes on your tire sidewalls (p. 31)

Wondering how thick the wire should be to run your new electric vest? Look in Chapter 6.

What do you suppose the weather is like in Maine in September? Will you need warm weather gear? (p. 162)

This book has everything. Wind Chill tables, Heat Index data, an entire chapter that cross-references SAE, Metric and even Whitworth hardware. Listings of those formulas you've forgotten from High School.

Several Chapters apply to the off-season mechanic or machinist. Drill sizing; counter-sinking; metal properties & hardness; welding data and taps and dies. Granted there are more complete machining books, but if you are at the store and are blanking on a spec, the Pocket Ref may save you a return trip.

Oh sure, you can get most of this information off of the internet. But out in Hooterville at O-dark-thirty, you may be able to find your answer before your alpha-geek friend has even accessed the 'net.

Author Thomas Glover has compiled tons of data onto 544 pages into this little, 5 1/4" X 3 1/4" book. Tankbag?!? Hell - this thing fits into your jacket! Available from better hardware stores, booksellers or the publisher.

Verdict:
Casual Reader--You could live without this, but why would you want to?

Gear Head--Serious "geek-credit" earned when you deploy this little gem.

Serious Ride--Has scores of uses directly applicable to motorcycling. A no-brainer.

Dorothy Rothschild Parker's malicious wit, mordant humor, and cynicism are brilliantly revealed in this audiotape narrated by Elaine Strich. With a gravelly voice appropriate for the wearied New York lives she portrays, Strich imbues "Big Blonde" and a host of other stories with attitudes of the late 1920s through the early 1940s, showing the arrogance of men in relation to women, the voluntary subservience of the women, and the shallow goals of socially conscious people whose primary concern is recognition by each other.

"Big Blonde," her most famous story, describes how Mrs. Morse, a large blonde woman, finds happiness in her recent marriage and homemaking, only to find her husband becoming less interested in her as she becomes more domestic and less "exciting." Mrs. Morse's downward spiral into drink and an eventual suicide attempt parallel Parker's own life. "Too Bad" tells of the Weldons, an upscale couple who seem to have a perfect marriage, except that they can no longer find anything to say to each other, largely because the wife has become a bore. "Song of the Shirt" tells of a wealthy woman of "great heart," who volunteers to sew hospital robes for wounded soldiers but is unable to help the unemployed mother of a polio-stricken child.

"Mr. Durant" continues the emphasis on the arrogance of men, as the title character has an affair with a naïve employee who becomes pregnant and loses her desirability. "Diary of a New York Lady" details the shallow social activities, the theatre going, and the repetitive parties of a woman with too little to do. The funniest, most tongue-in-cheek story, "The Garter," tells of a character named Dorothy Parker who is stranded on the couch at a major party because her garter has broken and she can't get up without losing her stocking.

Parker adds much ironic humor to these stories of failure. She is cruelly critical of women who let men determine their destinies, mocking both their pretensions and their lack of imagination, but she also recognizes that they have little choice and few opportunities to escape their lot. Equally critical of men, she finds their interest in women selfish and often limited to the bedroom. Sardonic, ironic, and cruelly observant, Parker creates tragedies masquerading as social comedies and comedies of almost unbearable pathos. Mary Whipple

I often think we spend so much of our time wishing we lived in a kindler, gentler time -- a time past when things were simpler. Dorothy Parker's stories made me realize that life is life and it ain't easy, no matter what the year. The reader's smoky voice is perfect for the collection. As she told each tale, I felt as if she were reaching right into my chest and clenching my heart in her brightly-manicured grip. The stories are revealing. I found myself haunted by "Mr. Durant" days afterward. I can say that I came away from this collection changed in some way. How, precisely, I cannot say. It is too soon to tell, since I just finished the last story yesterday. I do recommend them, however, if only to show readers of this day how very different life in Dorothy Parker's day.
