Another strong tab book for Blink!

This book has amazing tabs! Blink just gets better and faster with their songs. Their slowest, Stay Together For The kids is 72 on the metronome, but is all sixteenth notes, so it's like 150, just the same! This book includes:

Anthem Part Two: Great tabbing, sounds exactly like the song, alot of palm muting, in the verses, and at the beginning.

Online Songs: This is a great song for tabbing, it's a little harder than their last one, but it shows that their getting better, and it's really fun to play!

First Date: An easy song, and a nice beat to go with!

Happy Holidays: Whoever thought you could tab a song as funny as this, and make it sound so serious! It's great, and very easy, probably the easiest song in the book, the shortest too!

Story Of A Lonely Guy: The best one in the book, really fun to play! Especially the beginning, then the bass kicks in for the verses. The chorus is awesome for guitar, simple, yet great!!

The Rock Show: Beginning takes practice, it's much harder than their last few attempts, alot of palm muting, even in the chorus, so watch were to start. The beginning is played very fast, so make sure you practice that part alot, cause it's in alot of the song.

Stay Together For The Kids: Wow! The chorus is so easy, but the start is fairly difficult. The beginning has to ring, and I mean has too, or it doesn't sound good!

Roller Coaster: The fastest song to date, and is faily tricky, but easy! Upbeat, punk and nice all at the same time!

Reckless Abandon: The fastest song in the book! If you ever play at that speed, if you can get that fast(248 on the metronome), good for you, cause I can't! This song is fairly easy to play, but too fast!!

Everytime I Look For You: It's easy, fast and upbeat, but makes a great song! Not too much palm muting in this one, good song!

Give Me One Good Reason: Wow, this is tricky! Needs a capo, and tuning is different! This one's probably the hardest in the book! Although, it's a great song, punk!!

Shut Up: The tabbing is great here, this one is one of the besT! It sounds so great on electric guitar, I love it! Twists and turns, it makes for a great song!

Please Take Me Home: enough palm muting in this one. it's a nice song, upbeat and catchy. fun to play along with! Not too fast, which is in most cases, good!

This book was great and every guitar player should have it! It's not as easy as Enema Of The State, but it is deffinetely as good! Buy this!!

My 2 year old absolutely loves this book. We read it every single night. We now make up our own little stinky pants story when it's time for diaper changing. Very cute. Looking forward to the other books in the series.

She loves to read along with us!

Our two year old adores this book. She loves to shout "Oh no!" at the unexpected ending when the Ant family finds out how ignoring their chores snowballs into culinary disaster! Highly recommended. It's short and the cause-effect chain of events is simple to understand -- and funny! We're going to order the other Ant family books and see if they're as good as this one.

This book is a treasure of wit, a marvel of humor, and a deep and wide view of scientific knowledge interacting with life experiences. Faithful to his patients, yet Dr. Long manages to take us along a trip of social, moral, and medical satire to challenge the imp in any old practitioner, or young physician, or curious intellectual, or green budding future Mark Twain. I read this book from cover to cover, not missing any occasion to laugh or to smile. Seriously!

Review Date: 2001-11-22
The Chimpanzee in each of us exposes itself on the pages of this shocking irreverent book. While our politicians and school boards debate the reality of physical evolution, Dr. Long presents convincing material that human social behavior has also evolved during mankind's long journey to become modern human. Because we share a distant origin, social behaviors exist in common with humans and African chimpanzees and other members of our animal kingdom. The interesting animal behavior studies cited in this book reveal a marvelous complexity of the social behavior of other beasts that are compelling even if human behavior was never mentioned.

Rampant humor and merciless descriptive vignettes entertain while humbling our preconceived notions about our human nature. No one escapes insult. Everyone will find insights to help understand the wants that by genetic design motivate our mates, friends, enemies and ourselves. Do you need material to enliven conversations with your mate or companions? Interject a few quotations from this book for a reality check.

Our 9 year old has the complete set. She loves these books. She is always reading and we are constantly trying to find a way to challenge her. These books seem to work. She is always telling us about them and the "funny" parts. The only problem is that she reads them to fast and she is almost out of these books. I would highly reccomend them for the child that is not yet ready for Harry Potter, but definetly over Run Spot Run.

the hardest part is the measuring! my husband was trained as an architect so every measurement was taken 3 times. the drafting pants and sewing pants books are just great. as a current student of laurel's, i know that she has taken her years of training and experience and written two wonderful books and then, in class, every time a student asked why or said "i don't understand", laurel has rewritten the page and made sure that we fully understood what she was saying. even as an experienced and competative sewer, i learned so much with these two books. if you are as particular as i am about how your clothes look, you'll want both of these books. if you live in the philadelphia area--you will put signing up for laurel's classes on your "must" list.

The highest level of professional fit and construction

Review Date: 2006-10-07
These books are the authority on pattern drafting, fitting and construction for pants and skirts. Home sewers who are tired of poor fit and "home-made" construction techniques, apparel business owners who need to produce the best possible product and eliminate trial and error mistakes, and garment industry pros seeking to improve their knowledge and capabilities on the job will all find what they're looking for in this set. Finally, here is the information to produce professional quality garments that fit beautifully. No hype, no guesswork- this is all the knowledge you need and nothing you don't.

The drafting and fitting book covers everything: taking measurements, professional fitting, drafting a sloper, making fit corrections, drafting a pants pattern from a sloper, drafting the supporting patterns for pockets, waistband, fly, and linings. Everything is explained in a completely user-friendly manner with abundant diagrams and charts, making even the more complex concepts accessible to everyone.

The sewing book includes information on sewing machines, tools, laying out patterns and cutting fabrics, seam allowances and finishes, kick pleats, darts, setting zippers, pocket construction, linings and finish techniques. Every step of the process is diagrammed and there are even sample patterns for use in practicing new techniques.

The set is packed full of meaty information that can be used by anyone to improve the fit and construction of their garments. Ms. Hoffmann has tested the information in the books with a large variety of students, ensuring that every possible fit issue and construction question is addressed thoroughly.

I highly recommend both books in the set for anyone who is intent on learning professional methods and techniques for fitting and garment construction.

essential cinema reading

It's hard to believe that Sam Arkoff wrote this over a decade ago because all of his words of warning are still true. He points out that what made AIP last 25 years was because they didn't want to become a major studio. Oddly enough this is the exact lesson the guy who made Veggie-Tales didn't get taught till he tanked his studio when he tried to become the next Disney. AIP made movies - not productions. And if you pick up the MGM Midnite Movie collections, you'll discover that they made so many kind of films.

Sam does an amazing job of balancing his tales of how he got in the business, AIP's history and tips for anyone who wants to make low budget films.

Recently both Dreamworks and Miramax fell off the horizon as active "indies." Neither of these two studios rate up to AIP. Miramax went from a lowbudget indie wonderland to a bloated entity that just wanted to make $100 million epics. This was a company that died when they passed up on "Company of Men" because they couldn't figure out how to market it. While Sam didn't hesitate to edit or dub a film - he didn't hide under "but he loves film" guise that covered Harvey Weinstein. Sam cut up a foreign film cause he didn't want butts to leave the seat. He wanted to be entertained and didn't care about winning Oscars. Dreamworks set itself up as a place for artists. In the end, it treated its talent like every other studio. Sam always let his "artists" know that they had to make a film he could follow in 15 days or less.

The biggest revelation in the book is how Sam hated movies that preached to the kids. No teenager wants to hear an authority figure babble on about the right thing to do - they'd hear enough about that when they got home from the Drive-In after midnight.

If you decide to skip film school, read this book as a Master Class. Sam knows what hes' talking about when it comes to filmmaking. Remember - the audience needs to be entertained.

Mr. Samuel Z. Arkoff is indeed a ground-breaking movie producer, and this is his story. It's loaded with insights about a Hollywood we shall never see again. His company, American International Pictures, allowed directors like Scorsese, Demme, Stone, and countless others to cut their teeth, and gave the then-untapped teenage market "a lot of enjoyable Saturday nights."

Above all, the book is great fun. Mr. Arkoff is a master storyteller, and is as amazed at his own success as anyone else. I couldn't recommend the book any higher. By the way, the movie mentioned in the title is MUSCLE (not "music") BEACH PARTY.

One can't put forth their B game when they are attempting to lose those pounds - one needs to put forth total effort or it simply is not going to work. "Getting Into Your Pants: Add 10+10 for Life!" is a deftly composed and easy to follow dieting guide to help anyone start to shed those pounds - and unlike most fad diets, it promotes a change that will push readers to not lose them for a few months but to keep them off for their entire lives, avoiding the up and down hilly slope so many advertised diet plans promote. "Getting Into Your Pants: Add 10+10 for Life!" is highly recommended for community library collections dedicated to health and weight loss and for anyone who, as the title says, wants to get into those pants.

Business Results Through Heart-Centered Leadership

Review Date: 2007-04-19
As a talent management director in a Fortune 50 company, I have used Heart-Centered Leadership as part of our high potential and leadership development programs. This book demonstrates the importance of serving as a leader in a way that engages, retains, and motivates employees, and also clearly demonstrates why this leadership style increases business results.

The book provides exercises and checkpoint tools that make it a great "leadership book discussion" choice for leaders within an intact work group, or for an individual reading the book who can then use the tools to identify practical applications and actions to take on the job.

Successful Leadership Starts Right Here
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2006-03-16
The seven principles and virtues spelled out in this book represent the core foundation of effective and meaningful leadership. In essence, the ultimate secret to effective leadership is influence (read any book by John C. Maxwell to confirm this universal truth). However, I have noticed through my study and research on the topic of leadership, that little is ever mentioned on how influence actually transpires, or better yet, how or why a person should expect to increase his or her personal ability to generate real and meaningful influence.

This ability starts from within. There is no escaping this fundamental truth. Whether the situation calls for being a great parent, a trusted friend, or outstanding CEO, the reason that people follow you is because of the light you shine from the inside out. Lao-Tzu mentioned that "the ways of the sage are attractive." Thus, the secret to influence is attraction, and attraction in turn is achieved through modeling honest, heart-felt compassion for self and other. The virtues laid out in this book walk the reader through the transforming world of inner wisdom and personal integrity in a way that is fresh, original, and illuminating.

The ways of the great leader are naturally attractive, so people naturally follow: Through good times and bad, through periods of tremendous change and adversity, through thick and thin. Behavior modeling is a more powerful teacher than positive and negative reinforcement ever could be. Because the leader is an authentic and honest person, their organization will shape and create a culture of honesty. Influence is clearly understood by Steinbrecher and Bennett as being the "outcome" of effective leadership, not the starting point, not the descriptor. Heart-Centered Leadership is a fantastic way to start your journey of building an authentic legacy in life, both personal and professional.

If only I could give this book six stars instead of five I would do so...in a heartbeat.

We bought the entire Junie B book collection when we were on holiday in the States last year as they are very difficult to buy in Australia. It was so exciting to find that they were available on cd! Lana Quintal reads them so, so well. My two kids (aged 6 and 8) love them so much that we've had to stop them listening to them at bedtime (which was why we bought them!) as they weren't getting to sleep! Too busy listening (and giggling!). The only slightly annoying thing is that you have to change cd's half way through stories. Not a big thing, just a little inconvenient is all. We have a 10 hour car trip coming up in a few weeks, and I know that we are going to relying heavily on these to keep us sane!

hey, these are sooooo funny, I get the Junie B Jones stories on audio for my disabled daughter. She can't read or even hold a book, but she loves to listen to stories. She (my daughter) is non-verbal, but comes alive when we put a Junie B CD on. She likes us to read to her too, but I get the feeling she likes Lana Quintal's voice better. The nurses who care for our daughter also love these CD's. One of them used to even play the stories when my daughter was asleep and just shake with silent laughter over Junie B's antics.

So if you've got kids, or nurses, or just want to remember what it feels like to look at the big crazy world through the eyes of a 6 year old I strongly suggest you try this collection of stories on CD.

Gilbert

Review Date: 2007-10-06
Let me tell you a feel-good story. It involves love - the love of a mother for her daughter, and a child's passionate, exhilarated, uncomplicated love for books. This is the true story of Deb Raymer, and her daughter Sabrina, and how I came to know them. This holiday season, I am grateful that Deb has shared parts of her story, and that through her mom, Sabrina has shared a wonderful cast of characters previously unknown to me.

A couple of months ago, Deb asked me to help her find a series of books. All Sabrina wants for Christmas is "Gilbert". Deb needed to order multiple copies of each book in the collection, she explained. Sabrina loves the "Gilbert" books so much, that she reads them to pieces. Literally. While I am always thrilled to see someone who loves books that much, that's not even the best part of the story. Sabrina is mentally and physically handicapped. She has a job at Partners in Progress that she enjoys. Whenever she rides to work on the bus, she has a "Gilbert" book - or two, or three - in her bag, and she "reads" them to the other passengers. Sabrina has memorized her favorite books. Her mother needs to keep buying new copies of them because Sabrina pages through them so much and so often that they fall apart.

Gilbert, the hedgehog, and his sister Lola, are creations from the paintbrush and pen of Diane de Groat. This author/illustrator started working in children's literature by doing the artwork for some well-known children's authors, such as Lois Lowry and Eve Bunting. De Groat started on her Gilbert series in 1996 with "Roses are Pink, Your Feet Really Stink", which is still Sabrina's favorite.

I hadn't heard of de Groat, and Deb gave my literary ego a boost by reassuring me that I'm not alone. Often, when Deb and Sabrina have searched for Gilbert in libraries and bookstores, he is nowhere to be found. So, it's time to spread the word. Diane de Groat has created a fun, inexpensive series with sympathetic characters, situations that kids can relate to, and a little lesson that doesn't come across like a 2"x 4" to the forehead. The titles themselves produce a smile for kids and adults alike. Now there's a Gilbert for every season in a child's life. A reader can start school with Gilbert in "Brand New Pencils, Brand New Books" and end the school year with the companion volume, "No More Pencils, No More Books! No More Teacher's Dirty Looks!" In these final months of the year, we have been enjoying "We Gather Together, Now Please Get Lost" for Thanksgiving, and "Jingle Bells, Homework Smells" for Christmas.

The Gilbert books have been so successful that now his sister Lola has her own series, books for slightly younger children, that often include Gilbert, but from Lola's point-of-view. When Lola can't decide what to be for Halloween, she finally decides to be "a Gilbert", because she knows he's an original. I think Sabrina and Lola are on to something good.

This is a book that has beautiful big illustration. The characters are animals (which I think children relate to better) and the story revolves around the idea that Lying is a bad habit and you get in less trouble if you tell the truth rather than lie. The story inside the story is about a teacher teaching her children about Presidents Washington and Lincoln (Mainly President Washington). The main character Gilbert is the one who learns a valuable lesson. This book would be great to read to a elementary history class especially around presidents day. I would recommend this book for kids over the age of four. I don't feel that most children under age four would understand the way the story teaches the lesson as it makes reference to the story of the Cherry Tree.
