OK I confess I know Elissa Wellikson's parents. But that's not why I bought the book. I bought it because I was in the military and i was stationed in Guam-- not far from Subic Bay where the book is set. I didn't know if the "novel" would be any good-- but i knew it would bring back memories.

I am fairly surprised to say the book is very well written and a good read. Even if you are not Jewish (as i am, by background) nor served in the Pacific,(as i did) you will still find a few months of life in the Philipines--as seen though the eyes of a smart, attractive, newly minted officer-- an enjoyable place to visit.

A trifle steamy-- and not just the weather--this is a sojourn in a far away place you will enjoy at the beach, or on a plane, or anytime you just want to "get away from it all."

The Girl Who Lies
By
Trey

The book I read is called Liar Liar Pants On Fire. This book is about Zoey who lies so much that no one believes her even if she tries to tell the truth. After reading the book I think if you lie too much eventually no one will believe you ever again, but if you tell the truth people will believe you. Zoey changes a lot because in the beginning Zoey lies and in the end she stops because her friend comes over and sees that she is telling the truth. Before I read Liar Liar Pants on Fire I thought if you lied no one will believe you ever again. Now I think if you just tell the truth kids will start to believe you again. I recommend this book to boy and girls in 2 grade because it will teach the person not to lie, self to text to the middle kid in the family like an 8 or 7 year old.

While there are a few inspired moments in this Gordon Korman book, it doesn't come close to his masterpieces such as The War with Mr. Wizzle, I Want to Go Home! or Who is Bugs Potter? While Korman can write for younger readers, this story doesn't have the necessary flair to keep even the most beginning reader's attention. Very predictable and lacking the creative humor of Korman's other works.

Freshly married into the Thebeau family, this is quite resourceful to learn about your family name heritage. My kids love it and will use some of the information for school as well. Enjoyed it and worth it.

The "family names in history" series contain less than 1% useful family information, the rest is cut and paste general historical information that is publically available. Not worth the paper it's printed on.

This book has very generalized information. It is easy to see how the core of the book is used for all of the Ancestory name books, and only small bits of information are added for the specific name. If you are new to researching your ancestory, this book may be helpful. However, if you have done any research and have a medial knowledge of ancestory research, this book will not provide any additional pointers.

Not suitable for a child who is expected to be polite.

I gave this product 2 stars because my step son loved it. However, the further along we read, the more uncomfortable my husband and I became with it. We used it as a night time story, reading aloud a chapter or two every night. My step son was 6 at the time and thought all things dealing with a toilet and a superhero in underpants extremely hilarious. The problem we had with the book is that it contains words and phrases I do not want my children using, especially in public. Yet, how can you explain to them that it is ok to read and laugh at, yet not to repeat? Our son, for one didn't understand this concept - maybe yours will. Ours thought if Mom and Dad say it's ok now, it's ok later too. It wasn't. We tried other books in this series to be fair to our sons complaints, and this one was the most tame and the only one we finished. Children just don't have the maturity not to pick up the 'potty mouth' condoned in these books.

Beware

Beware of this book. It is written for a chef who is very familiar with Indian cuisine and the methods of cooking it. I was looking for an Indian cooking book to make a few tasty recepies for my family. This book uses terminology in Hindi(?) that I don't speak, uses ingredients that I cannot easily obtain (fresh rose petals???) and also uses cookware that I do not have. I did a search for a recipie that I particularly like and this cookbook professed to contain it, it did not. It is an expensive book. I was very disappointed. On the otherhand, if you are a professional chef who cooks Indian food for a native clientele, this is the book for you. Far too professional for my needs.

A strange book. I'm a professional magic type performer and a professional prankster and so I I'm judging this from a practical point of view. If you're only looking for flip-through amusement then this may be for you. Personally I was hoping to find some fun performance pieces or gags using under pants, but instead this turned out to be a full magic book where every trick involves under pants. How can this be bad, you ask? Well... it is all just contrieved. The author has taken many standard and some not-so-standard pieces of magic and pretty much just exchanged the items used for under pants. For a childrens magician there may be *some* useable tricks, but I'm not sure the parents would find more than one or two of this kind appropriate, assuming you are an adult performer yourself. (Frankly, I cannot help but wonder if the author is expressing some fetish urges with this work.) And for adults, the tricks are just, well, stupid. This means that on the whole I see very little practical use for this and a potential purchaser would probably do well in first asking what he or she is expecting from a "magic book". That said, I should add that the book is extremely well written and produced, with wonderful cartoons illustrating everything, making it an entertaining read!

One of the Midwest's very best ice cream parlors is in Jackson, MI. It is called "The Parlour". This book doesn't even include it at all. The authors couldn't have looked very hard.

I have really looked forward to reading and reviewing Joyce Oglesby's "Keeping His Pants On Until He Gets Home". I had hoped it would be an excellent resource for ideas to "keep the home fires burning". Sadly, this book was a disappointment. The first two poems in the book cracked me up! Then, learning the author's sad history a few paragraphs later brought me way down. The tone of the writing became so serious that it seemed to emphasize the negative issues of the sexual marriage relationship rather than boosting hope for its improvement. Not all men are prone to having an affair. This topic would have been better served if the author had accentuated the positive aspects of the marriage relationship rather than trying to implant paranoia into the psyche of Christian wives.
