While I do not play golf at all, I can appreciate the humor of golf jokes and when reading this book of golf cartoons, I did a lot of appreciating. It is hilarious in the sick sense, sometimes gross, and other times engaging in sacrilege against the sacred sport of golf. These cartoons are some of the funniest that I have ever seen, independent of subject matter.

I think I was most surprised by the fact that this book is a compilation of articles by different people. Once I got past that, I began to realize that each person had, to varying degrees, experienced the anxiety I've felt at being locked into a job that brings no joy. To realize that there are others are taking that leap into the unknown and finding happiness while the "normals" stand by and scratch their heads at what is surely insanity is massive relief. And to find that these "insane" people are holding their hands out to the rest of us who are a little afraid of our inner "insanity" to show us the way and to help us to realize that not going after our dreams is indeed the end of our happiness. Going after our dreams should be the "normal" thing to do, and Thank You to people like Valerie Young, Barbera Sher, Jerry Stocking ("Quitting A Job - Without Plan B", read the "Yes You Can" book and you'll know what I'm talking about!), and others who are helping us fraidy cats get out there and take control of our lives!

I have not seen the movie for this book, and didn't even know about this book until I heard that the movie came out for it. I chose not to see it and never read the book. I thought it looked dumb.

But, needing something new to read, I picked this book up last week even though I was feeling a bit skeptical. I had it read in two days.

I really, really enjoyed this book! Even though there are four individual stories, it's nicely told as one intertwined 'sisterhood' story with the traveling pants. Emotions go up and down through it all, but it had my emotions going up and down with it, watching as the 'sisters' each have their own discoveries about life and themselves and learning how to deal with them. I found myself reminiscing of my high school days/summers with my group of friends and it had me wishing we had magical pants of our own then.

I enjoyed this book so much, I have already picked up and read the second book and am ready for the third.
It's a fun book and I highly recommend it!

I read this in high school. Maybe I wouldn't feel the same way now, but as a high school girl I adored this book. Well, heck, then. I guess it's aimed at high school girls and that is why the book is as popular as it is. It's cheesy and horribly girly, but that is how it is supposed to be and why it left such a mark in my heart. It's a charming, heartfelt tale of friendship and discovery. Yes, we see them so often in YA literature, but I still couldn't help but love it. Throw in the semi-magical idea of pants that fit everyone and you have a mix of girl power sisterhood.

Do you have a best friend? Do you have four? Have you known them since you were born? Most likely not. But Lena, Carmen, Bridget and Tibby have that going for them. Their mothers were in the same pregnancy class, and they were all born within two weeks of each other. Virtually, their friends were made for them. Even as their mothers grew apart, the four girls remained inseparable. Faced with the prospect of their first summer apart, they were a bit more nervous than they should have been. They had never been away from each other for two months before! Bridget was going to a soccer camp in Mexico, Lena to her grandparents in Greece, and Carmen was going to visit her father in South Carolina. Poor Tibby was staying home to work at Wallmann's. Coincidentally, a week or so before their trips, they find a pair of jeans that manages to fit all four of their very different body types. They feel it is a good omen, and become slightly less nervous. They plan to send the Pants to each girl for a week, and are dubbed the Traveling Pants. Many things happen that summer, like finding love, and meeting new friends. Will this last? Read The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants to see what happens.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is a book jam-packed with all sorts of action, romance, and some sad parts, too. With four different stories happening at the same time, there's never a slow part! The author, Ann Brashares, does a great job of describing her characters, and gives a real insight into some of the problems the girls face. Another interesting thing about this, and all three sequels, is that it tackles a lot of real-world problems, which makes it more serious and less sappy fiction for pre-teens. You should really try this book; it makes for a great, relatively easy read, plus you have three other equally magnificent books to read next!

Much to my surprise, this was every bit as good as the first one. The interweaving of the girls' mothers as a parallel Sisterhood was very effectively done, and never more so than when the Traveling Pants almost blurred the distinction between the two groups (I won't say more so as to keep from spoiling a very good scene). Bridget's rediscovery of her mother and reconstruction of herself is the best and most emotionally powerful of the story threads, although all are generally well-done.

The only place I think Brashares tends to miss is when she reaches for bold emotions. All of her intended sharp notes - and Tibby gets more than her fair share - tend to come off flat. It's in the small, soft-touch, life-affirming moments that Brashares is at her best, and I think it's interesting to see that Bailey is still her strongest character, even in a book where she doesn't (can't) make an actual appearance.

The real howler of the book, though, is the resolution of Lena's story. To avoid spoilers I won't say much more, but the entire thing descends into a mess by the end. It's both forced and deeply unsatisfactory, which is an unfortunate blemish on an otherwise terrific book.

Great Follow Up to the first!

I loved this book. I read the Original Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (after I saw the movie, which I loved)and decided I need to read all of them. I highly recommend this book as well as the previous one. You will love reading about these four girls who basically have been together since they were all in their mother's wombs and have grown into very different teenage girls. The relationship they have with one another is so wonderful and special. I can't wait till I read the rest of them, which I just ordered.

After the fantastic first appearance of this book, (The first summer of the sisterhood) this book was a bit of a letdown. The only character really interesting to read about was Bridget, and some of the action between Kostos and Lena is a little too mature for the young teen. I reccomend the first of the books, but the others are not nearly as good.

These books are so well written, following along as the girls grow and mature through various life situations and stages. You cry and you laugh. I highly recommend this entire series.

this book is definitely not just for children. I am 22 years old and I loved this book. just like the others in the series, this book has a way of taking you back to when you were 14 or 15. It just amazes me how many of the issues that are talked about in this book, I remember having when I was in school. Everything from boyfriend troubles to teachers that you swear hate you. Its an easy and funny read. This book will keep you laughing and begging for more till the very last page. also a great book for teens who might be going through some of the problems that Georgia is facing. sometimes it helps to read about what your going through. The glossary in the back is also very amusing and helpful. I can not wait to finish reading the rest of the books in the series. i recommend this book to people of all ages. whether you are 15 and cant decide what boy you like better, or you are 99 and want to remember the good old days, and of course all ages in between.

Georgia Nicolson has become one of my favorite nutty characters. I love the books but this is not the best in the series. Yet it is hilarious, tremendously funny and it is impossible to have a bad day with the looney characters and crazy stories Louise Rennison brings to life. I am completely crazy about Angus, that wild and impossible cat.

Georgia is back aqain! This series is hilarious! In this book Georgia and Robbie are still together, but Robbie isn't around that much. He's on tour with his band, The Stiff Dylans, in Hamburger-a-go-go-land, a.k.a the United States. Georgia is stuck in Great Britain. Georgia's family is still totally embarrasing, but they are really funny. You should definitely read this book and the rest of the series. These books have something funny written on every page. I couldn't put it down!

I read the book Dancing In My Nuddy Pants, by Louise Rennison. This book is about a girl named Georgia Nicholson. She lives in England with her mom, dad, little sister Libby, and oddly large cat named Angus. This story is about the life of a normal teenage girl living in England.

There were many good parts in this book, but if I had to choose a favorite then I'd choose the time when she tripped "Elvis" with a wheelbarrow. Once Georgia was outside of "Elvis`" hut and she decided to pull a brutally mean joke on him. She placed a wheelbarrow outside of his hut and then she went to his window and screamed frantically like something was wrong. This caused "Elvis" too run out his door and trip over the wheelbarrow that Georgia put there, but Georgia got what she deserved and was suspended for a while.

I've read many books but Dancing In My Nuddy Pants was just a book that I could not put down. If you are seeking a hilarious book that you will love then I highly suggest reading this book. Georgia taught me things that I should never do, and so things that I should do. If this sounds interesting you might also want to read the first too, and then you can get this book to resume with the tale of Georgia Nicholson. But don't be sad when it's over because there are 7 books in this series.

PANTS ON FIRE by Meg Cabot is a great book that reveals the inside secrets and lies of an everyday teenager in high school. Katie Ellison a sixteen year old is the most popular girl in her school. She is smart, beautiful and is dating the schools hottest football player. Katie is mistaken for being a caring person and wanting to be a Quahog Princess when she really doesn't want anything to do with it. Tommy Sullivan a boy she used to hang out with is back in town and is out to get her. She goes behind her boyfriends back with another guy. She also claims that she never knew or talked to Tommy Sullivan about anything, but she was there when he did the spray painting to the school.
As Katie went through a web of her own lies the book got more intense for me and I was able to understand how the title came in to play right at the beginning. This book was a nonstop page turner. I could barley put it down as I went through it.This book was a great way to express how many teens act in school and how lies all do come out in the end. This book teaches a lesson that most teens get caught up in. Meg Cabot expresses Katie's lies in ways to make the book more interesting and more fun to go along with as you read through it. In my mind this book deferentially deserves five stars. So don't just read the review or a summary about it read the whole book it is worth it! PANTS ON FIRE will change your mind on being a liar.

Genre: Young Adult/Break-Ups

Katie is a typical teenager in high school. She is popular and has looks, good grades and hot boyfriends. Did I mention, she has a lying problem. That is how she was able to become so popular in high school. Even since Tommy Sullivan left, his ex-best friend, she lied her way through freshman to junior year. Lying has never been hard for Katie; the only thing she had to do was keep her lies straight. In fact, she even had two boyfriends without a problem. Then Tommy shows up in the summer before senior year and her perfect life comes crashing down, fast. She thinks she is in love with Tommy although she has two boyfriends and all her lies are catching up with her.
The characters in this young adult book were also very captivating as were Katie's problems but toward the middle of the book I did not care what happened to Katie and wanted the book to be over. This is not Meg Cabot best work, which made the book okay. Even though the plot line was not boring and it had suspense, it was not enough to keep it interesting. Despite that, the book was not horrible.

I honestly like Meg Cabot. Usually her characters are easy enough to relate to, and she's pretty funny. But I think Meg Cabot has come to rely too much on the, "underappreciated-and-misunderstood-girl-falls-for-wrong-guy-but-finds-true-love-in-a-boy-she's-always-overlooked" plot. Those books certainly have their place in the world, but at least in Cabot's other works, the main character has something else going on for them, be it psychic powers or discovering she's a princess.

Kate Ellison has nothing going for her. Sure, she likes photography and riding her bike, but she's also the most judgmental person ever. For a girl cheating on her boyfriend, she sure seems to dislike that her "best friend" enjoys shopping and gossip. We're supposed to suddenly like her by finding out that she's smart (smarter than everyone in her town, apparently) and apparently all of her life she has been pleasing other people...

...by pretending to like quahogs.

Whatever, Meg. I couldn't have cared less what happened to Katie while I was reading this book. I shouldn't have even finished it; the entire thing was so predictable it was mind-numbing.

I bought this book because I love flying and like to know how things work on the 'inside'. This was not the book for me.

Marsha is a down to earth, nice person and that is exactly what comes across in the book. It's not flashy, thrilling or mystery-busting. Doesn't give too much info on how airlines, or flight attendant's work. Maybe there really isn't much going on in that world...but I would have expected 20 years of experiences to be more enlightening and interesting.

This seems to be the tail-end of a collection of stories where the meat may already have been published in Ms Marks' first two books.

That said..it's good for one or two laughs. Not guffaws...but polite laughs.

I hate to criticize this collection of the author's experiences as a flight attendant because she seems like a genuinely nice woman, but seriously, this book is not that well written and is far from "hilarious" like most of the reviews state. An easy read? Sure, mostly because it's short. You can read it in one sitting, with little satisfaction other than having read a book in one sitting. There may be a few chuckles, but otherwise you'll find yourself saying "so what". I can tell more entertaining tales from my experiences as a passenger. "Laugh out loud" and "hilarious" do not describe this book at all. I have to agree that the other reviews must have been written by the author and her friends and family.

This is probably one of the best children's books ever written! It's a charming story full of plenty of peril and surprising personality for a rabbit and the artwork is stunning. Instead of being truly innocent and plottless, Miss Potter plays on the fears and actuality of being a child--children get into trouble. Beautiful edition.

A Classic Tail...er, Tale

Review Date: 2008-10-04
THE TALE OF PETER RABBIT, by Beatrix Potter, has enchanted both children and adults for generations. An exciting adventure book for the wee ones, THE TALE OF PETER RABBIT is the story of Peter, who is very naughty. Peter disobeys his mother, and goes to Mr. McGregor's garden, where he gets into all manner of trouble. While Peter does eventually make it home, he is wet, sick, and has lost his clothes (his second set of clothes in a fortnight!), and his mother gives him chamomile tea for supper. His sisters, Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cotton-tail, who are good little bunnies, get bread and milk and blackberries for supper.

THE TALE OF PETER RABBIT gently teaches children to mind their mothers - good little children are given rewards, naughty children get into trouble. This simple tale engages and captivates youngsters who can easily relate to Peter's mischievousness. And while that lesson and Ms. Potter's story are both timeless, it is Ms. Potter's charming illustrations that are the true star of this book. Peter is drawn to look like a real rabbit; a rabbit that wears a very dapper jacket and a little pair of shoes. The soft colors and rich detail of the original drawings continue to delight children throughout the ages.

My three year old adores hearing this story. Whenever we read it together, she loves to shout "Stop thief!" with Mr. McGregor and to sneeze "Kertyschoo!" with Peter. She clearly gets great fun and joy out of this classic tale, as do I. All of Beatrix Potter's tales are delightful to share; however, THE TALE OF PETER RABBIT holds a special place in our hearts.

I was a huge fan of von Oech's "A Whack in the Side of the Head." That is why I was bitterly disappointed by "A Kick in the Seat of the Pants." It is ironic that a book about creativity is almost a carbon copy of its predecessor. "A Kick.." has at least 50 percent of the text and cartoons from "A Whack." I feel robbed, as this book is little more than a revised edition of "A Whack."

If you already read "A Whack" and feel like you are experiencing deja vu while reading "A Kick", you are not alone. This book is a rip-off. How would you like to pay to see "The Empire Strikes Back," only to find that half of the movie is footage from "Star Wars?'" Shame on von Oech and the publisher for tricking me, and shame on me for being duped. Anyone who enjoyed this book either failed to read "A Whack on the Side of the Head" or has extremely short term memory.

I first came across Roger Von Oech when I was a trainer - training other leaders - in a worldwide youth organisation. The ability to think outside the square is important in any lifepath and Von Oech is easy to dip in and out of to get prompted in another direction when life the way ahead looks too narrow.

This book is great - until recently we had a copy in our local library and I borrowed it avidly. Unfortunately it disappeared and I now own my own copy of both this and A WHACK ON THE SIDE OF THE HEAD : How You Can Be More Creative. I highly recommend them both.

Just for the Software - Hardware classification toold its worth it

I came to this precious book in the 3M Library in Caracas while I was working there, the funny thing is that there was the most un-creative work enviroment I ever seen in my life!!

This book was the kick-off that got me to exercice my creative gears.. the clasification of subject themes by hardware/ software proved to be invaluable in my later marketing career.

I would recommended to all, specially those who think they are as creative as the need to be.

A must-have book in your Creativity & Innovation Library & card deck on your desk top!

I am a raving fan of Roger von Oech's creative work as embodied in his books & card decks, namely:

Books:

- A Whack on the Side of the Head;
- A Kick in the Seat of the Pants;
- Expect the Unexpected;

Card Decks:

- Creative Whack Pack;
- Innovative Whack Pack;
- Ancient Whacks of Heraclitus;

I have used all his creativity stuff ever since I started my own strategy consulting (& book store) business in late 1991.

From my personal & professional experience, I would like to say that the entire collection of Roger von Oech's creative work has been designed to serve three strategic purposes:

- understanding - & removing - your mental blocks;
- breaking your habitual patterns;
- shifting your focus & changing your paradigms;

As a matter of fact, once you appreciate & commit to these three strategic purposes in your life, you will soon realise that there is nothing in this world to stop you from getting rid of old ideas & getting new & fresh ideas.

Allow me to quote Edward de Bono: "...the mind is habitually uncreative - it is usually preoccupied with organising masses of incoming data into convenient patterns. Once this pattern is established, then the mind tends to rely upon that pattern in future situations, in order to facilitate decision making & action in an otherwise complex world..." (The Use of Lateral Thinking).

Breaking old habitual patterns is definitely the first & foremost priority in your journey to creativity!

Once your shift your focus, you begin to change your paradigms or the way you look at the world around you. Always remember this: Your brain follows the direction of your dominant thought. Once you focus on something, that thing becomes the foreground. Everything else around it will fall into the background. Most opportunties are unfortunately hidden in the background. The moment you begin to shift your focus, you are pushing the 'foreground' into the 'background', & pulling the 'background' into the 'foreground'. Get it?

'A Whack on the Side of the Head' will help you to break through your mental blocks. They will open up your mind for innovation. This book is filled with provocative puzzles, exercises, stories & helpful tips.

'A Kick in the Seat of the Pants' takes you on a guided tour through the four stereotype roles of the creative process - Explorer, Artist, Judge & Warrior. Understanding - & applying - these roles will fire up your personal & professional creativity. Tactically, they will change your mental focus as you change to play each of the four roles. I would like to add one more role from what I have learned from the Japanese creativity experts: Antique Dealer. This singular role will allow you to combine all the four roles into one.

'Expect the Unexpected' uses thirty of Heraclitus' (the world's first creativity master) epigrams as creative springboards. It has intriguing questions designed to topple old habits of thought & fire up your imagination.

All the three card decks are basically extensions of the three books, to allow convenient usage during brainstorming sessions.

From my strategy consulting experience, these three card desks have proven to be inexhaustible sources of inspirations.

In fact, the 'Innovative Whack Pack' combines the creative power of both the 'Creative Whacks' & 'Ancient Whacks of Heraclitus'.

I strongly urge readers to seriously consider having the entire collection of Roger von Oech's creative work added to your Creativity & Innovation Library, & all the three card decks placed permanently on your desk top at all times.
