We purchased this book after receiving "I See A Monster" as a gift. Our 15 month old son LOVES it! He touches all the "fuzzies" and is starting to get some of the animal noises correct. It's one we read every day, at least 4 times :)

My son is 6 months old and always rubbing his fingers on things to feel its texture. This book was perfect for him. I like that the parts that he feels are bigger in size than other sensory books. Being this young, he is able to feel them easier.

Its simple and rhymey which also captures his interest. He wants it read over and over. And I'm not tired of reading it yet, either.

Cute illustrations too.

We're still reading this daily and my son is 9 months old. Now that he's mobile, he's going to the bookshelf and picking this one out. I think we're going to have to buy a second one because this one is getting worn out.

My 16 month old insists on having this book read to her 10 times a day. She will dig it out of any location and bring it to you saying "book" while moving her fingers like she is going to tickle you. My 4 and 5 year olds also enjoy the book and love to read it with their baby sister.

I have read a lot of numerology books, and this is by far one of the most easy-to-read, fun and creative books on the subject. I have been searching for a numerology book that focuses on letters and was so happy to have found this. It is really well written and insightful. I would highly recommend this to anyone. Well done!

I bought this book thinking it would help find a good name for a baby. It was so interesting I had to buy another book for myself. It has given me a lot of insite into the people I work with and who could be more surprised than me. Really easy to read, unlike some of the others I've looked at. I do enjoy reading it and have recommended it to several friends. Great book Ms. Watts.

Watts hit the nail on the head with this one! She approaches the subject of names with a fresh perspective and lots of humor. She uses famous and familiar names to illustrate the meanings behind them. I found my name and my husband's name and was amazed at the accuracy of the descriptives. I bought one for each of my grown children so they can carefully consider the names of my future grandchildren.

Reviewed by Susan Pettrone for Reader Views (9/06)

From the first sentence to the last, "The Art of Nameology: Uncovering the Meaning Behind a Name," author Norma J. Watts opens a new window on personality types, how our names are a part of who we are, and what we ultimately become as people because of these names. With each letter in a name being assigned a number and the numbers being converted for a single "power number," we readily see how our names hold a meaning all their own. Through easy-to-understand instruction in converting names to numbers, explanations of power numbers and intensity numbers, as well as name compatibility, the author clearly explains the process of finding the meaning of any name.

Each number within a person's name corresponds to a basic personality trait and through adding these letters together we see how all these numbers become traits and how they all fit together to reveal the person behind the name. The reader learns how the first letter of a name is an important letter and how through adding each letter, one at a time, we come up with parts of personality we might never have realized existed! The hidden numbers within names also are addressed within this book and it is explained how these numbers can have a huge influence upon the personality.

To further simplify for the reader, we find within this book, hundreds of names and their definitions of personality. It is all too easy to find one searching for names of friends and family while reading "The Art of Nameology" and seeing clearly their personalities and how they are in fact defined through their names.

The author, Norma J. Watts, opens a whole new way of understanding personalities through the age old use of nameology and through her easy to follow instructions, even those with a relatively new interest in nameology can find through her book, the meaning behind a name.

I found this book to be amazingly insightful as to the personalities of family and friends and the instructions simple enough that even I could transform a unique friend's name, and come up with a strikingly "on the mark" definition of her personality.

I would wholeheartedly recommend "The Art of Nameology" for anyone who simply wants to have a better understanding of names and how they can mold a personality. It is a fascinating book and one that will easily become a bookshelf favorite, as you are certain to refer to it again and again, as I do, when wanting to know more about the personalities of family and friends through their names.

In a story that many young readers will identify with, Arthur has a new puppy who misbehaves, as puppies often do! Arthur sets about training him, and brings about a wonderful transformation that amazes everyone, with a fun twist at the conclusion.

If your children are fans of the wonderful TV series, this book is sure to appeal to them.

Arthur was happy to have a puppy. He had been watching a puppy that gave birth to a litter of new puppies and Author got to keep one. While children love reading fantastic stories of dragons oraliens or dinosaurs, that doesn't mean they don't also enjoy readingbooks featuring kids just like them.

Or, in the case of the popular Arthur books, aardvarks just like them. Arthur's New Puppy is the eighteenth book in the best-selling series. It follows the misadventures of the lovable aardvark as he attempts to housebreak his bouncy puppy Pal.

Children seem to identify with Arthur as he struggles with everyday problems with the help of his loving parents (and no help from his pesky little sister, D.W.) and friends.

If you have an Arthur fan in the house, or if you have a new puppy in the house, you'll want to check out this book.

I received the Audubon 365 Songbirds Calendar as a gift last year and enjoed it every day. I wanted to reorder it and looked for it prior to the beginning of the year. I was thrilled when I discovered that Amazon.com offered it!

With all the wall calendars available on the market, this one has an unusual format. Instead of one large picture at the top with the month's dates below, this calendar utilizes both top and bottom for the month's dates with a picture of a different songbird each day. Truly a calendar for the lover of our feathered friends!

The photos in the 2007 Audubon Calendar are especially colorful and attractive. The information on the highlighted(larger photos) bird(s) of the month is practical and the description is excellent. The size and layout of the calendar makes it perfectly seen from across a room. The details are a handy reference if hung near a window while bird-watching. Very nice addition to any room.

This book is a gorgeous collection of decorating projects and ideas for babies' rooms -- perfect for a shower or holiday gift, or as motivation for your own adventures with a glue stick. Suzonne's How-To's are fun and easy to understand ( as opposed to some designer project guides that leave you with a tortured mess of twigs and dough, and glitter in unmentionable places. Or . . . maybe that's just me ). Whatever your skill level, rest assured that 'B is for Baby' will inspire an artistic confidence you didn't know you had, and fulfill a creative outlet you didn't know you were missing. Have fun !

A knockout punch. . .

Review Date: 2007-07-09
Against the austere black and white luminosity of an early morning fog in Nova Scotia, `Baby Angels' plays out like a smart, character-driven neo-noir.

The narrator of the story is a Halifax sparkplug named Janet. Janet is a photographer. She likes to take pictures of `interesting faces.' Janet likes to show the dramatic contours of the faces she photographs by using low-key lighting. Proper low-key lighting techniques create distinct areas of light and shadow in a photograph, which greatly minimizes distracting contrasts that could otherwise reduce the emotional content of the original subject.

I know this because Ms. Dobson uses a similar technique. Her understated, straight-forward prose works like low-key lighting on the tone of this story. She pulls you into the brooding mystery of `Baby Angels,' and brilliantly eschews superfluous details that could otherwise water down and reduce the emotional content of the subtext. Ms. Dobson weaves a spell with the words you read; but there is a lot going on just beneath them, and it is what she does not say that makes this story that much more intriguing.

While searching for a subject to photograph, Janet meets a man so poorly dressed she mistakes him for a vagrant. His name is Morris Sweetapple, and he is not entirely what he seems. A very tragic memory has given Janet something of an identity crisis that she has been attempting to hide from herself for many years, and although she doesn't know it yet, Morris is going to make her confront it.

`Baby Angels' dances right on the edge of being sweet, but Ms. Dobson is not the least bit afraid of taking her dark, cynical characters into the shade created by her low-key lighting approach.

The story is generously salted with interesting banter, and it is full of thoughtful moments that are both quiet and nuanced. `Baby Angels' is a strong yet fragile story. It is underscored by Ms. Dobson's elegant, economical prose, and it is powerfully mysterious.

Each neat, crisp little sentence comes at you like a boxer's left jab. You know she is setting you up, but you will never see that haymaker coming.

It's a knockout. I was floored!

A magical connection between two unusual souls is wrought over a period of time in this intriguing tale.

Suspenseful and creative, the magic lies in the unanswered questions...those that keep you guessing until the very end and afterwards.

I found myself wanting to know more about the history of the characters, but I also found satisfaction in making up my own backstory for them.

A fascinating read.

...or do they? One of the enticing issues in this story of an old, shabby war veteran and the young photographer with the holes in her jeans and her backpack full of unpaid bills is 'are they people from different planets moving tentatively to understand one another'? The young protagonist thought so as she tries to photograph the old man's unusual face. She approaches this 'homeless person' and he tells her he's got no money to give! she is infuriated...but intrigued at the same time. There is more approach-rebuff until finally they begin to communicate.

I suggest you keep this theme in mind as you read the story. Betty Dobson's style is one I like... you catch The Truth in the details, not by fiat. I really don't think it's fair to Betty to summarize the plot any further, as the surprises you encounter along the path of this confused yet intrigued relationship bring the story home for you. Like Jim Wilsky says...this story leaves you thinking...you are still trying to answer that question I posed at the very beginning, only your understanding has shifted considerably from when you first view the homeless wreck with the unique face the young photographer wants to snap. Subtle, thought-provoking, and downright entertaining. For best results read this one when your head is clear...Betty Dobson makes you use it!!! Five Stars John W. Cassell

One of the ways I judge a story or at least rate it, is whether or not it stays with me. After finishing it, do I keep thinking about it and does it just keep staring back at me?

I have a winner when I say goodbye and shut the door on a story, then an hour later I open that door back up and there it still stands. That's a good story to me and that's Baby Angels. I highly recommend this well written, unique and entertaining story.

When my son was five months old, I learned I was expecting another baby. My nurse-practitioner recommended this book as a first reading experience for my son and as an introduction to having a baby sibling. We read the book almost daily until his sister was born. It was a marvelous experience for all three of us. I am getting two copies for my first and second grandchildren, who will be six weeks apart in age! If you have read some of Gyo Fujikawa's other books, like "Oh, What a Busy Day", then you know they can have some strange stories. Why include the one about the two kids who go out into the woods and die? Still, this book is great. The drawings all have a very relaxed soft feeling and the underlying lesson is to be gentle with animals. This is a good book to share with your child at bedtime, while he/she is cuddled in your lap. The last page is a special treat, lots of baby animals. My daughter loves play a version of "I Spy" when we get to that page, pointing out the owl or monkey or other baby animals as I call out their names.

This book was a life-saver for me. The world of nursing home care, patient's rights and insurance is a mystery to most of us, until we find ourselves in the situation where we face those issues, often suddenly and unexpectedly. The Baby Boomer's Guide gives understandable, clear advice and information, and anticipates the problems the patient and family are most likely to encounter. This book has helped me to identify and solve so many problems. The authors are to be commended for providing such a useful resource for all of us.

This book has very serious credentials - see The Commonweath Fund's site. I bought it when my mother was in a nursing home and our right to informed consent and then review of her medical records were being completely ignored by the "professional" staff. It tells you what your rights are so you can attempt to be a more effective advocate (winning against a nursing home is an unrealistic expectation).

I have suggested this book to friends who have parents in nursing homes - in other words, exactly the audience for which it is intended.

This book isn't just for "boomers" - it's for everyone who is helping a family member or friend who is or may become a nursing home resident. It's in plain language, and full of practical help. The Federal and state governments are doing a poor job enforcing the rules that are supposed to protect nursing home residents - it's up to family members and friends to be aware and assertive. Our non-profit agency (H.E.L.P. of Torrance, CA) assists older adults and families - we wholeheartedly recommend this book.

I am so glad I found this book. I was told but never really understood the roller coaster ride I experienced the first six weeks of my daughter's life. This book reminded me to "hold on and enjoy the ride." Every evening before bed (when I would tease myself to believe I was going to get some sleep...really my daughter called me out of bed soon enough) I spent some time with this book. It reminded me what kind of woman and what kind of mother I wanted to be during this time. It grounded me and reminded me what is really important. It helped me realize I am not the only woman ever to live through this ride and that I am not alone by any means in this journey. I even wrote in the margins what was happening that day with my daughter. I know I will pull it out for the next baby and I am looking forward to reviewing my notes. When my daughter was six weeks old, I was sad to come to the end of this book. Now, we just need the author to write one for the first 18 YEARS!!

I felt overwhelmed and underqualified as I realized how much my daughter will look to me. Thad Winters is a widower whose looking for a woman to be his "oven mother" for his future baby and held alot of interviews with women to achieve his dream, but he settled for Macy McKinney, a med student divorcee with a 5 year old daughter, Haley, who's in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant. Macy had reached to a point where she would do anything so she could pay for her daughter's transplant, so she's even willing to go through an artificial insemination, carry to full term where she could just hand the baby to him and they be off with their own life.

Both are survivors of their own dark past. Losing his pregnant wife to an accident was devastating for Thad and for Macy's husband left her for a jailbait, leaving a huge wound to heal and unknowingly they fill each other's void. As the contract progressed, they ended up getting married and things got too messy as both sides of the family gets involved with each other, weaving emotional intrude as time passes by.

I never thought after a long while I be picking up a Harlequin book after all of these years, but I did and I'm glad I did pick this one for my first read. This is page turning and fast pace with emotional turmoil, though ina couple of pages she lost me at where a character was at the moment but it was interesting read still.

Novak displays her unique talent!

Divorced medical student Macy Mckinley needs ninety-eight thousand dollars and change and she needs it now. A friend tells her about Thad Winters, a man offering one hundred thousand dollars for a position he'd like someone to fill immediately - that of a surrogate mother. Although Macy has plenty of qualms about even thinking of accepting a position like this, she knows she has no choice but to accept. Five-year old Haley, Macy's daughter, is dying of cancer and in the hospital at present. She needs a bone marrow transplant and the hospital wants the money in advance. Deserted by her husband who ran off with a younger woman, Macy has little faith in men and has learnt to fight all her battles on her own. Compared to saving her daughter's life, no sacrifice is too great for Macy - even if it means having a stranger's baby just so she can save her own.

Eighteen months have passed since his beloved wife died and Thad Winters still mourns her death. Convinced the only way he can bring back some sort of fulfillment to his personal life is by fathering a child, Thad starts interviewing candidates to find the best woman to give him a baby through the process of artificial insemination. However, not long after he starts meeting the long line of women competing for his money, he finds himself growing tired of their aggressive and persistent attitude to get the `job'. That's when he meets Macy, the first woman who genuinely seems to need his money but won't tell him why. Thad learns of Macy's reasons for wanting his money through a private investigator and even while his practical side insists he not get involved, he can't help but feel drawn to this sweet and courageous woman and her adorable but very sick daughter. He gives Macy the money and soon fins himself wanting a whole lot more from her in return than he'd originally planned. Yet, he fights a battle within his heart for while part of him still feels tied to his deceased wife, another part of Thad desperately wants to let Macy into his heart. The question remains, will he be able to convince Macy to love him in return?

Bravo Ms. Novak for penning a poignantly beautiful category romance full of heart wrenching emotions and plenty of tender moments. My heart went out to Macy for putting up with all that went wrong in her life. Her courage in the face of helpless fear and despair is so exquisitely portrayed by Ms. Novak.

Brenda Novak displays her unique talent for blending serious situations with compelling and lovable characters to create a romance one cannot soon forget.

Macy McKinney's young daughter, Haley, is in dire need of a bone marrow transplant. The cost is ..., to be paid before surgery. Desperate, she took a friend's advice to contact Thad Winters.

Thad had lost his wife and unborn child less than two years before. Unable to love another woman, he put out the word that he would pay the woman he chose from applicants to be artificially inseminated, have his child, and then walk away forever. He chose Macy McKinney. Then his family gets involved. To keep his parents or Macy's from discovering their "contract", he convinces Macy to temporarily marry him and act the loving wife (in name only). But things quickly fall apart as he begins to care for Macy and Haley.

***** AWESOME STORY, READERS! Here is one that you do not want to miss! Macy is in a catch twenty-two and the author wrote it all so well that I could not help but get deeply into the book and cheer for Macy! Excellent read!

Brenda Novak is a writer who writes with gut-wrenching emotion. The characters she creates will quickly become a part of your everyday life. Her latest, Baby Business, is set in Salt Lake City. The hero, Thad Winter, a widower of 18 months, still mourns the death of his beloved spouse and unborn child. His late wife and unborn child were tragically taken out of his life by a drunken driver. Thad decides to have the child he was denied and give him something to live for once again. He offers a hundred thousand dollars for a woman to accept artificial insemination, carry his baby to fruition, and to stay out of their lives after delivery. He is convinced he can never love anyone as much as his late wife.

Thad has many applications trying to collect the hundred thousand dollar prize. Most are very bold and eager to assure their place as the selected candidate. Tactics they use to entice Thad only turns him off until he meets Macy McKinley. Macy is a mystery to Thad. She is neither bold nor aggressive in her pursuit of the hundred thousand dollar check. She refuses to tell him why she is in need of such a large amount of money. However, during a background check, Thad learns that the divorced Macy needs the money so that her beloved five-year-old daughter Haley can receive a life saving bone marrow transplant. Thad and Macy reach an agreement that includes him safeguarding his investment by a temporary marriage. As Macy and Thad remain in close proximity, they fall in love. However, she mistrusts love after her former spouse deserted her, and he feels guilty for betraying his first wife by falling in love again. Love may not be enough to heal the deep wounds of either one of this deserving pair.

Baby Business is an emotional read that will keep the reader turning the pages until the end. Her characters are so well developed you will long remember them long after you finish one of her novels.
