This is an excellent book by Mo Willems again! Second only to "Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late" in our house, this funny comedy act between the Pigeon and the duckling is classic. Learn how they becomes friends and why sharing is fun in this book.

Another awesome Pigeon book.

He's now officially a member of our family. We've adopted him. And now my husband and child walk around saying, "It's a taste sensation" all the time.

We adore this to the ends of the earth

This isn't one of the pigeon books where you talk back to the pigeon. Instead, the pigeon talks to the Special Guest Star - the Duckling!

My nieces (aged 5 and 2.5) can literally recite this one by heart. And they will! Oh, they will. They love every page of it, and if that's not a good recommendation, I don't know what is!

They even (especially) love the inside covers. On the front inside cover there's a lot of hot dogs, but on the *back* inside cover one of the hot dogs has been cut in half - just like the pigeon cuts his hot dog in half to share it with the duckling!

Another Terrific Pigeon Adventure

THE PIGEON FINDS A HOT DOG! is another installment in saga of the Pigeon, and this time he wants to eat a hot dog. In fact, the Pigeon is about to eat his favorite dish, a mouth-watering, delicious hot dog, when the Duckling appears. The Duckling, a new character to the Pigeon books, says he has never had a hot dog, and, not so innocently, sets about trying to get the Pigeon tell him more and more about hot dogs. The Pigeon gets VERY frustrated, going off on one of his famous rants, while the Ducking just sits there, looking sweet and naïve. So that he can finally eat his coveted hot dog, the Pigeon does the only thing he can do to get the Duckling to stop interrupting him...he shares his hot dog.

Author Mo Willems has done it again, spectacularly, with this one. THE PIGEON FINDS A HOT DOG! teaches a fine lesson about sharing, one that my three year old understood immediately. She loves to tell the Pigeon that he should share with the Duckling, and she is very happy every time he does. We also love seeing the Pigeon express a gamut of emotions as he reaches this decision. Mom acts them all out, and the wee one thinks this is hysterically funny. "Do it again, Mom-Mom!" is a familiar cry.

Kids are drawn to these books because the Pigeon, and, in this case, the Duckling, reacts just like they would. The illustrations are clever and very expressive, and it is clear exactly what the Pigeon is feeling. The other day, my child was quite angry. I said, "Hey, you've got smoke coming out of your ears, you must be really angry." She started giggling and said, "Just like the Pigeon, Mommy," and the impending melt-down was adverted.

I highly recommend THE PIGEON FINDS A HOT DOG! for anyone, but most especially for those who are already Pigeon fans.

This is one of those books that tells a story with just the pictures. If you have a small child, you are 'explaining' the pictures and adding these words in that is all dialog. At 8pm, I don't want to make up a story around a book. I want to read a book to my kid.

Although the illustrations are cute, I still wish there was more narrative.

It's a touching story and the illustration is beautiful. I'm glad I found this book on Amazon. But for now, I think I enjoy the book more than my 2 year old. May be in a couple years he can start to understand the meaning of the story.

There is something absolutely timeless about this story--that is probably where the "traditional folktale" bit comes in. I'm not sure just how old the story itself is but I can see why it is still loved today. Ms. Hunt does an incredible job retelling this meaningful and beautiful story of a connection with Jesus Christ through sweet, emotional prose and fantastic pictures. Definitely a keeper.

very cute book! we love sandra boynton in our house. i don't know about you but i can't help but "sing" these books. i absolutely cannot just read them aloud. that all started with the barnyard dance book. just think "country twang" and you should be able to sing it. they'll get a kick out of it. now my 6 year old sings it to my 1 year old. she's just amazed at "big sis"

I have to admit, I really didn't think my kiddo would go for this book. We checked it out from the library and when I started to read it I thought there would be absolutely no response. Boy was I wrong! Everytime I got to the turkey wearing the wrong thing and said "OOPS!" she burst into giggles. My little one doesn't laugh easily, so I ran out and bought the book for our own at-home library. Not my favorite Boyton book, but it makes my 15 month old laugh, so we read it everyday.

This book is cute. It is one of the first things my children laugh at. You know before your baby really learns to laugh at funny stuff, if this book is read to them with the right enthusiasm it can bring a true laughter at such a young age. Live laugh learn. Life is worth it.

My daughter has loved this book from day one, as the silly rooster putting its clothes on wrong sends her into fits of laughter. She memorized the book, and was reading it to us the other night, and when she got to the word "hat", she spelled it out! It's the first time she ever spelled a word! She also spelled out "oops" on every page! This book has held her interest, helped her practice her colors, encouraged her to read and helped her spell her first word -- a true winner!

I bought this on a whim for my 18 month old grandson, having never heard of Sandra Boynton. Ok, so I've lived abroad for like EVER, and this is our first grandchild ... long story. But I cannot praise this book highly enough -- as our previous reviewer mentioned, it is belly-laughs galore for our little man! (You should hear how he cracks up when we embellish the Oops! to "Oopsie Poopsie!!" Hilarious!) This is a hands down family favorite, and should be required "reading" for all us adults as well. Heaven knows, we can all use a good laugh! Enjoy!!!!!

Out of all the books I have read throughout my life, this book still stays in my head. Lisa

It's been decades since I was a young reader at Sevilla Elementary School in Phoenix, entranced with reading as many library books as I could carry home every few days.

Usually, I only checked out each title once. One book, however, kept me coming back for more: "The Velvet Room."

Maybe it was because the heroine in the book had a secret place of her own, something as the middle child among five siblings my world definitely lacked. I'm not sure, though, as it has been many years since I've picked up a copy.

Thanks, Zlipha Keatley Snyder. Your work filled many otherwise blah afternoons with the adventure found only in great children's fiction.

Someday, hopefully soon, I will take another look at the story - this time through the eyes of an adult. Will I still like it? I can't say for sure.

Young people of today, however, likely will. The need for personal space is timeless.

I'd suggest this book as a great gift for any young girl who loves to read.

Just an update of the old one I had when I was a kid....

I bought one of these for each of my children. Basically it is biblical stories and highlights in comic book format(ALL pictures with text bubbles). THis is great and is what I like about this picture bible as opposed to other that I have seen and owned that simply try to dumb down the biblical language for kids and add a colorful picture every few pages -- they're ok, but in my opinion the comic book format is much better at holding the attention of kids...at least it was for me. I remember reading it during church when I was a kid and I have to tell you that this book as well as the "superbook" and "flying house" videos are what I grew up on and where I gained MOST of my initial knowledge and understanding of the Bible. Stories that I remember reading about from this book still stay with me to this day...people who have been reading the "grown up" bible look at me with blank expressions some times when I talk about stories that they don't even remember and have never really grasped just because they have never been able to see it in such vivid PICTURE format.

I recommend this book for ALL children...if you want them to grow up with a good foundation of knowlege of the bible then this is the book you want.

This picture Bible is written in the comic strip method. It is true to the Bible and does not include any denomination's creed. I have bought several and given them mostly to children about 10 or older. It will be fine for younger children but I feel those above 10 will benefit very much.

I buy these bibles by the case as an evangeliziing tool - to give to people as gifts. Last week I heard a teenage girl light up in her group of friends expressing joy that this bible was a comic book - this made the others wish they too had listened and engaged in thoughtful discussion about the meaning of life. Of all the comic book like bible books, I like this one the best because it is very detailed and sticks to the words of the bible. It's good for all ages - helps people read the bible who otherwise would not, and learn the life lessons through biblical stories.

It's wonderful, but it ain't the Bible.

I am working with teenagers that have little understanding or comprehension of the Bible. This book was recommended to me as an easy read that would give a superficial view of Bible history without boring the kids senseless.

It is a very easy read, and quite interesting, but has some serious flaws which I'm having a hard time overlooking. Regularly it assigns attitudes and motives to God and various characters that are contrary to scripture, and ultimately changes the meaning and/or significance of many events. The importance of blood sacrifice is completely avoided, and blood does an amazing disappearing act in this book.

As a superficial overview of Bible stories, it's an entertaining read. But it is wrong for Bible study. With great trepidation I offered it to one of the teens with the expressed disclaimer that although based on Bible text, this is NOT the Bible, and NOT to be taken as scripture.

I absolutely adore this book. My sister gave it to us before we traveled to China to adopt our daughter. She's just over two now and has read this book with me dozens of times. We both love the illustrations, and even at a very young age, she "gets" the idea that Choco finds a mother in Mrs. Bear, regardless of the fact that they look nothing alike. (I confess I still get misty every time I read it.) The message is delightfully done--not schmaltzy, not overdone. I would recommend this to any family--adoptive or not.

I liked this book also becasue it has great details of what the young girl went through since she was born. I mostly liked this book bacaue of the was it decribes the characters are doing, and what is on in their mind at that time and place in the book. The sadest part was that when i read this book that I have felt the same pain as Alicia does in the book because my grandma Burger died of being HIV positive back in January of 2005.

Alicia was a unique and really nice baby. I didn't really think she should of got putt in the hospital because her mom didn't want her. The book teaches us that anyone can help the hospital and help little kids. It also teaches us that even though you got put in a hospital because your mom didn't want you, don't mean you're not a nice person. One example was when people started to tease a girl because she helped the hospital take care of kids.

Alicia was a great baby. She loved everybody. She knew what was wrong and what was right. Even though, she was only two.

This is a great book for ANYONE to read!

I am a new mom (5 month old baby) and found this book amazing. I really enjoyed reading it and I love that it covers both the theory and the practical side of how a child develops emotionally. It is very well organized; the first part covers the goals for emotional development, and the second part covers the challenges one encounters. Each chapter finishes with a very specific list of tips for parents, which are summarized at the end by theme, with a note of age relevance for quick reference. You can't get better organized than that!

She's just such a happy baby and I believe that this book has made that possible. From the beginning she's been a sweet heart but from what I've read thus far I'm able to keep her smiling and understand what it is she need's from me. Every night I read this aloud to my hubby and we are just amazed how simple but effect the teachings in this book are. I also love that Molly Lou Melon has such great self esteem and doesn't resort to pouting or bullying when other kids are mean to her. She just keeps on doin' her own thing and in the end wins over the school bully. This book is now on my list of books to give as gifts to other children!

Stand Tall Molly Lou Melon es a story about a girl named Molly, who is extremly short. Her grandma is encouraging and never gives up on Molly. One day, Molly has to go to a different school and meets a bully. She oddly changes him from a cold-hearted bully to a warm-hearted friend. This book has gorgeous, colorful pictures that go along perfectly with the writing. I recommend this great, well-written book for all ages.
