I found this book after a referal from a lactation consultant after my third baby was born and in the nicu. I had low milk supply issues with each baby but it was worse after my baby was in the nicu. This book offers help that seems to be hard to find from doctors and the medical proffession at large. At the very least it explains things in a way that you can finally understand what is going on, rather being told some bland explanation from a doctor that doesn't offer any help.

I fell in love with this book. I had a lot of trouble breastfeeding my first child and as I was preparing for pregnancy with my second child, I wanted answers. This book explained a lot of the troubles that I personally had. The book is also a good nutrition book, not just for pregnant or nursing mothers, but for anyone. I highly recommend this book for anyone that is looking for nutrition or herbal advise for pregnancy and breastfeeding.

This book is outstanding. I had originally bought "Eat Well, Lose Weight, While Breastfeeding" and was so disappointed, I sent it back to Amazon. Then I found "Mother Food." I can't tell you what a valuable resource this has been for me. It has a very international feel (the author is Swiss) because it references cultures from all over the world and connects you with moms from ever corner of the globe on what works best for producing the highest quality of breastmilk for your baby. The best recipe in the book is for the "green drink." It's a blend of raw fruit and vegetable juices that increases the quantity and quality of your breastmilk amazingly. I make this drink everyday and since then have been able to pump a full 5 oz more milk each day. I have looked and felt so much better since beginning some of the routines described in this book and my baby has been much happier and had hardly any colic! You absolutely MUST buy this book.

Great kids' book - needed this additional one because my 30-year old son decided to take the one I bought him as a toddler - to share with his children, and my daughter, his younger sister, wanted the same book for her children. I was very pleased to be able to buy another copy in decent condition at a reasonable price. Thank you!

I loved this book when I was a kid! My parents must have loved it too because they saved it for me. I want my 3 yr old & 9 mo old to love it as well, but I'm afraid they will ruin my copy! Is that selfish? So I am buying them their very own!!

The hard-back edition of Socks For Supper that i have is as old as i am, published in 1978. My 5yr old son absolutely loves this book. It's only 28 or so pages long, but it's easy for him to read and he loves to laugh at the silly farmer and his wife!
I'm thrilled that my son so loves the books i enjoyed again and again as a child.
I'm even more thrilled to add this book to the list of books he's read for his summer reading program for kindergarten next year!
I plan on picking up more Jack Kent books for my son, and i hope that his children are able to enjoy these books as well!

I bumped into this book at the library and had to buy my own copy for my two-year-old. The storyline is simple, the illustrations are beautiful, and the wording is fun for the little ones to enjoy. It's a warm and tender read. I bought copies for my friends with toddlers, and they all loved it. Would highly recommend this book to anyone. A great one for the little ones to go night-night to.

A lovely book about the ways a few woodland animals get ready for bed. "...baby bear will softly sigh, as Daddy sings a lullabye..." The illustrations in this book are spectacular but sweet, and the gentle rhythm and subtle rhyme are perfect for even very young children. It's ideal for bedtime - not too long, but not too short. I've read this almost daily to my children since they were born, and my 6-year-old still loves it. This is a book I discovered by chance, and I'm so thankful!

This is a gorgeous book, with John Denver's lyrics, and beautiful summery illustrations. My daughter has the paperback version and we love it so much that we have been buying the hardcover version as a new baby gift. The book features a brown-skinned little girl - hard to find - and a brown-skinned daddy - even harder to find - swinging, floating on a boat, and playing a guitar! This is a terrific publisher who deserves our support for their commitment to quality children's literature.

This John Denver song, turned into a book illustrated by Christopher Canyon is wonderful. Absolutely beautiful illustrations. One you can sing/read over and over. Very well done. Can't wait for "Grandma's Feather Bed". Dolphin Lullaby and Take Me Home Country Roads are both worth purchasing also. My kindergarten class loves it as well as my children at home.

Sunshine on My Shoulders book/CD is so very touching with the warm memories of the heart felt song by John Denver and Christopher Canyon's beautiful illustrations that accompany the music. I am an early childhood teacher and I use the book to demonstrate how thoughts become words, become verse, becomes song. . . . The Music Is You opening song on the CD explains this concept even further! The children, ages two to seven years, are mesmerized again and again through out the story/song. Other teachers and parents even stop to listen. This is a wonderful opportunity to teach about who John Denver was, what he believed to be so important for our lives, in addition to Christopher Canyon's ability to carry on the message in a way that can reach children of all ages!

Support Your RV Lifestyle: An Insider's Guide to Working on the Road (Second Edition)
is a wonderful resource -- it's well-written, filled with great information, and is inspirational and encouraging, as well. Jaimie Hall is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about her topic. It's obvious that she's a seasoned traveler -- and has been both working on the road and talking to many other RVers who have worked while enjoying their travels.

The book summarizes over 350 jobs (in categories like work at rv parks and resorts, christmas tree farms, state parks and national forest areas, concessions, seasonal jobs, sales of rv related products, crafts, writing and consulting). Details like how to handle resumes, long-distance job interviews, contact information and communication while traveling, and the right questions to ask about jobs are also covered. In addition to the many options it lists, it points out possible problems and challenges one may encounter on the road while trying to find a job or while working.

If you (like us) are thinking about traveling in an RV, this is the book to have in the planning stage -- and I assume it will also be helpful when on the road.
Also check out the author's website and enewsletter.

Working While RVing

My husband was intrigued by the idea of full-timing in an RV. This book gives you ideas of working while moving around in your RV. Maybe working a seasonal job in a theme park or with a tour group, on a guest ranch or in a national park appeals to you. Some jobs offer free campsites.
Ultimately I chickened out on the idea, but if you think the open road is for you and want to make some money along the way, be sure to read this book.
It includes a ton of info in the appendix: including contact information for state tourist bureaus, state parks, state revenue offices and state motor vehicle and licensing bureaus and more, plus an additional 32 pages of resources.

Planning for the best of both worlds

Many people who contemplate living the RV lifestyle probably equate it with a leisurely retirement. But what if you combine RVing with a lucrative work life? You may discover that you can hit the road at a younger age and reap more rewards.
Support Your RV Lifestyle spells out in great detail exactly how to live this dream life. Jaimie Hall speaks from her own experience and culls information from a wealth of other sources to create a comprehensive tool for planning to live and work on the road.
Just as you wouldn't set out on a trip without a road map, you would be miles ahead by consulting this guide before embarking on this life journey. There's a lot more to consider than where to park your vehicle each night. Don't assume you'll just "find a job" when you reach your destination. There are many considerations, from tying your marketable skills to a job on the road, to balancing work and fun, to tax implications. Because Ms. Hall is so thorough with her guidance, you will be well-equipped to make decisions about how to combine work with pleasure.
It is likely that some of her 100-plus pages of worksheets and resource lists would assist travelers in general, not only those traveling and working out of an RV. You'll recoup the price of this travel guide many times if you choose to follow its course for living and working on the road

It's better than "Good Night, Moon" by about 78%, at least.

"and a 10, and a 9, and a" --The Count is Back!

Review Date: 2008-07-09
Not quite a board book, but smaller than most picture books, "Ten, Nine, Eight" fills a nice gap in the middle. Molly Bang's exquisite colors illustrate this counting (from 10-to-1) book that culminates with the protagonist fast asleep.

The context is as warm and familiar as the counted objects: A little girl (it's difficult to tell how old she is, sometimes her face looks a liitle more mature than at other time) climbs up onto her daddy's lap. The dad is obviously smitten with his daughter, but in an unforced manner that seems to come from deep inside. The gentle pictures of their affectionate interactions provide the countable objects. These include 10 toes, 7 shoes (later we see the cat with the missing one), six "pale" seashells (each with its own shape), four "sleepy eyes which open and close," two "strong arms around a fuzzy bear's head (actually, you can see three arms, but you can always exclaim, "you're right, there are three arms!)," and "one big girl all ready for bed."

Ms. Bang's varied palette uses both bold primary colors and some more "sophisticated" hues not always found in a book for crawlers and toddlers. Overall, the tone is pleasant and warm, and the rhymes unforced and natural.

I gave this book to a child named Nydia who had been neglected. She didn't use play dough until I gave her some, but she used what she had at hand. I never read this book to her, but I sent it through a social worker. I hope she got it and knew that I loved her in 1983. Neglected kids have a hard time learning manners. I think about her and wish I could have adopted her.

OK, I bought this based on the 15 other 5 star reviews. I just don't understand them. Yes, the concept is cute. But the book is so poorly written! I think it's confusing for young children who are just beginning to develop their capabilities for logic (I assume that is who it's geared for, since it's a board book). For starters, it's non-linear...on each page, it jumps back and forth between what not to do (the Thingumajigs) and what to do; between the third person "they" for Thingamajigs and the first person "I" for well-mannered children. But they have these silly drawings of perky children, which I assume is who supposedly is saying the parts on good manners, so it's confusing as to whether the perky children are saying they have good manners or the child you're reading to. Then, it's not really clear until the last page that these are behaviors you DON'T want your children engaging in. They make the drawings of the Thingumajigs quite entertaining, and the narrative is merely descriptive, without really stating "DON'T do this" so I suppose it's helpful to view the contrast, but really...I just want my kid not to pick her nose. Maybe I'm being nitpicky, but I don't think this is a great book for the younger crowd. My daughter is 4--she gets it, but I just was annoyed by the book.

I am so happy to have found these books again!

Byron Barton's Trains has become an unlikely favorite for our 2-year old. I say unlikely because it's so different from what most of his favorites (which are heavy on Sandra Boynton, Jez Alborogh, and the Spot series) are like. The art is extremely simple, using lots of bold colors, and the story doesn't rhyme or feature any noticeable repetition. It's not really even a story at all, but rather a descriptive sentence on each page highlighting the kind of train or activity shown.

I don't know whether it's the bold colors or just the subject matter (my son is absolutely fascinated by all kinds of vehicles), but this little board book went straight into his bedtime "top 5" and shows no sign of leaving! I may not get it, but I'm confident enough after seeing my son's reaction to this book to recommend Trains to the parents of any toddler interested in trains.

I love the story, and Kipper is a big hit in our house, but my kids want to pull and lift all of the things that get pulled and lifted and they end up ripping pieces out of the book. If it was made of stronger material I would give it 5 stars, otherwise, it might be best for slightly older kids (3+) who know how to be gentle with books.

I have almost 1,000 children's books that I've collected over 20 years. I would rank this charming book in the top 20...probably top 10 for the 0-4 age group. It was a favorite of my son's for about 2 years and the wear the book shows illustrates that. I have memorized every page, and never tired of reading it. It is constructed with heavy pages that hold up much better than the average (non board) book. There are just the right amount of words on each page to hold the child's interest. The interaction of each page involves your child and will keep them on the edge of their seat/bed with anticipation and excitement with every read! It is among the very best of interactive books for young children. You won't be disappointed !! I am buying 3 more for each of my children's children, since you never know about re-printing in the future...and it's definitely a book to enjoy forever.

We have books in the family library, and then some very special books go into each child's library. This is one of those books. There is no better book to read to a five-to-six-year-old. It has a loving father-son relationship, complete with exasperation on both parts. It has a roll-off-the-chair laugh-out-loud bedtime story that gets extemporaneously spun by the father, and it has day-by-day life. Get this book, read it to a child. If you don't have a child the right age, read it to a friend's child or grandchild. Read it.

I am buying yet *another* copy of this book, as we no longer even pretend to lend it- nobody will give it back! This has been a favorite book since our youngest was 4. She's just turned 11, but when she's under the weather it comes out for another read. Every family- and certainly every 5 year old boy!- should have this as a bedtime storybook. Even the chapters are just the right length. Although the price has gone up n recent times, it is worth every penny- this is one you want to own.

It's a tough business to tell a child a favorite story again, and again, and again, both for the storyteller who's tired of telling it and for the child who has, like a true die-hard fan, grown into a very devoted yet demanding critic. The story must be told "just-so", exactly the same way it's been told before and at the same time fresh, new, and even better than ever. Wolf Story is a story about telling a story, and both a parent and their child will recognize themselves in 5-year-old Michael and his father as they share the ritual bedtime story, a story about a very nasty wolf named Waldo. Little Michael seems to "know" the story even before he's heard it, but he isn't altogether conscious of this. He knows it much better than the tale's storyteller/author, his father, and isn't shy at all offering suggestions when his father doesn't tell it right.

Guaranteed this clever book will have you both laughing out loud at times, but I was also very pleased to find an amusing children's book that manages to operate at different levels without the wisecracking or cynical tone so common in children's literature now. Children can easily see the story from the point of view of the father, of little Michael, the scary wolf and the little farmer boy, Jimmy, who stands up to him. This makes the story all the more delightful for them. What a treat!

Five-year old Michael is a demanding taskmaster, and his father must be creative to tell a wolf story within the constraints laid down by his son. For instance, the wolf must be named Waldo. A terribly fierce wolf named Waldo. Good natured teasing and realistic conversation make this the humorous and sweet story of a father and son who enjoy each other's company.

Every year I read Wolf Story to my second graders and at the end of the year when I ask them their favorite chapter book read to them, Wolf Story is chosen every year to be the favorite. They love to follow the adventures of Rainbow and Michael. When you complete Chapter 1, the kids are hooked. They can not wait for the next day. I have even had kids who have been sick ask if I can re-read a chapter that they missed or if they can stay in at recess to read the missed chapter on their own.

Wolf Story is wonderfully written and captivating to young children. Every year I can not wait to read the book. I find myself anxious to share the next chapter.
When my own children have children, Wolf Story will be the book that I can share with them. I strongly recommend this book to every child and to every adult who enjoys reading to their children at bedtime.
