A You're Adorable is a wonderful way to teach the alphabet. The poetic words combined with the catch melody make this book ultra enjoyable. The illustrations are beautiful. Although some may not consider all of the illustrative depictions to be culturally sensitive, the attempts at diversity are evident.

This is a beautifully illustrated book of Perry Como's song, which would be a beautiful guide for a little childs scrapbook.

This book is absolutely fabulous for teaching the alphabet to a toddler. Purchase John Lithgow's CD to accompany it, if you don't know the melody. Perry Como also sang this song. My granddaughter sang and "performed" this song many times. I've since bought the book for several great nieces. It's a perfect book to have in your collection.

Honest and without judgement

ANGEL'S CHOICE begins in typical teenage fashion. A girl, a boy, a party and a very bad decision. Angel Hansen is a senior in high school and her plans for the future included graduating, going to Yale, and becoming a novelist. She's always been the smart girl. But at the end-of-summer party, she has a lapse in judgement that will change her reputation and affect the rest of her life. With all options available to her, what choice will Angel make?

ANGEL'S CHOICE takes an honest look at teenage pregnancy and the decisions that go along with such a difficult situation. Taking a walk in Angel's shoes is not easy. But it is heartwarming and emotional and realistic.

Lauren Baratz-Logsted tackles a difficult topic without judgement. ANGEL'S CHOICE is heart-warming and sincere and a must read for any teenage girl.

Angel's Choice was the best book I've read in a long time! I'm so glad that Lauren has written this book. My best friend is currently pregnant at 16 and it really helped me to understand her pregnancy better. It even helped me of what I thought of myself and my future goals. I think that every teenager should read this book. My favorite character was Angel because she was a very strong person to keep her baby even though she got accepted in to the college of her dreams and her family had very high expectations of her. I read Angel's Choice in 2 days. I just couldn't put it down!

To me, the most important factor in any book is the characters and their voices. This book, judging by how much I love it, really delivered.

Angel Hansen finds herself pregnant in the middle of senior year, and while everyone else is worried about getting into college, their SATs, usual high school stuff, she's got much bigger things to worry about. Does she ever complain about it? No. Does she ever let herself wallow in self-pity? Again, no. She is, throughout the book, met with many conflicts that she does not wiggle herself out of--she combats them full-on. By no means is her pregnancy easy. Being a pregnant teen in today's society means you're constantly the object of judgment, ostracism and alienation. It takes its toll on a person. But, again, does Angel cower away? You guessed it--she doesn't.

The choice she makes has strong repercussions in very important relationships in her life--with her best friend, Karin, her parents, her aunt, and Danny, a guy from school who is more than a friend but less than a boyfriend. This is what makes this novel so, so authentic. Nothing comes without a certain weight.

And of course, Angel is a truly identifiable character. Sometimes while I read this book, in the many times I have read it, I was struck by how many introspective passages sounded like my own thoughts and my own reasoning. She's got her weaknesses, her fears, her imperfections, all of which perfectly shape an admirable heroine.

All in all, this book's got it all: superb writing, characters you can relate to, authenticity, and one great main character.

9/10!

YA Author Loves this Book!! A Must Read for Every Teen!

Lauren Baratz-Logsted writes a week-by-week young adult novel that chronicles the journey of a high school senior's pregnancy: from her decision to keep the baby to the obstacles she must overcome as she faces impending single motherhood.

After a few too many one night, high school senior, Angel Hansen, experiences her first time with a guy she hardly knows after her crush hooks up with someone else. Ironically, after he drops her off, he tosses Angel his phone number and sarcastically says, "Call me if you're pregnant". Two months later she makes the phone call. From difficult decisions to the consequences the decision presents to her family and friends, Angel's Choice is a brutally honest depiction of a teenage pregnancy.

A recommended read for both mothers and daughters. The dialogue is real, the voice is real, and the obstacles are real. For a frank peek into an expecting teen's world, without a pro-life or pro-choice hidden message, read Angel's Choice.

Happy Baby, Happy Mom!

Review Date: 2008-07-08
We received this book as a gift at my baby shower. I thought it was cute, but didn't realize it's true value until I had a 6 month old on my hands and I was looking for things to do with him. Not only was this my son's favorite book for many months, it was mine because I was teaching him his colors as well as having a good time with him.

I recommend the entire Happy Baby series to every mom I know. I can't say enough good things about it. I like that it's a soft slightly squishy board book, and sturdy. I love the colorful and bright pictures through out the book. I also like that it is more than the colors of the rainbow, it also includes black, white, grey and brown, which not all color books do. I also love the fact that for each color there are 4 objects of that color, so not only is my son learning colors, he's learning names of different objects as well! And last but certainly NOT least, my SON LOVES IT! He's nearly 2 now and these books are still some of his favorites.

So, if you're a mom of an infant/toddler or buying these as a gift for one, these are a SURE BET. They are also reasonably priced in my opinion. Other books in this series we own and enjoy are the Words book and ABC's. We'll definitely be buying more too as time goes on. Way to go Roger Priddy!!

I bought this book for my son who is not quite two and is learning his colors. This is a great book - larger than most but not "big", high quality with hard pages, and a semi-soft "cushy" cover. The items pictured on each page are good discussion items with your toddler as well. My only negative is that on some pages like "black" the objects shown are not all black which can be confusing - like a white sheep with a black face or a black wheel with a red hubcap. Overall, though - a great book to learn colors.

I read the reviews for this book and just had to have it for my twins. I was so pleased when it came. It is really well made, a good solid board book with a nice cover. The colors and pictures that represent them are just beautiful!! My kids took to it immediately and wanted to read it over and over again, and I enjoy reading it with them. This is going to be my shower gift or new baby gift for any friends or family from now on! You will not be sorry with this book!! (I also bought the "My Big Animal Book" by Priddy books, too, and it is just as stunning!!!) I am a devoted fan of these books now!

My granddaughter was having a very strong reaction to her new baby brother so I gave this book to her. We all about died laughing the day she announced she was moving to Florida, behind the rocking chair, with her 3 bags of toys. Not the dining room table that Frances moves to, but it seemed to do the trick and granddaughter is adjusting well. Seriously, this book really helped her with her feelings about another child coming in to the family. Thank you to the Hobans!

When I was little, I used to love the Frances books. This is easily one of the best ones. In it, Frances has to deal with the fact that her mother and father are often too busy with Gloria the new baby, to speak to her at the moment. Frances just can't stand being ignored, so she tries all kinds of things. Finally, after there are no raisins for her oatmeal, and her mother didn't have a chance to iron her favorite dress, Frances decides to run away to the dining room. So she packs up her knapsack, and runs away to the dining room table with a box of prunes and five chocolate sandwich cookies. But after her food supply is exhausted, Frances realizes that you can't run away from your troubles! And so she runs back to her mother and father. But I really loved her marching song, which I used to annoy my parents with.

This is one of our favorite books.

The chaos caused by the monsters (more sensitive kids might get upset, I suppose, but my nieces don't) is done in a funny way, and the fact that the BIRTHDAY MONSTER CLEANING CREW! fixes everything at the end makes it all better.

Very catchy text, really funny illustrations. Perfect for a kid's first or second birthday.

If you have a child age 4 - 10 years-old get this book now. Do not wait. The world could be coming to an end. What is that thing in the sky anyway?

Adventures abound while above the comet looms. The characters are filled with foibles and nobility. Moomintroll and the Snork Maiden are one of the world's greatest couples, even if they are about 11 years-old and completely asexual. Love does not conquer all, but it sure takes the sting out.

Hurry! Moominmamma, Fillijonks, the Snork Maiden, Little My, Hemulens and Groks are all waiting to meet you. You do not want to miss them, but more importantly you do not want your child to grow up without them.

Timeless Enjoyment

I too grew up reading these books, then bought them for my own children to read, and now still enjoy reading them from time to time - sure it is an easy read for an adult, but what better way to spend a dark, rainy day then to curl up with a fun book that brings back all those warm and happy thoughts of childhood?!

I am so delighted to find that these are still available today and recommend them to everyone, young and old alike.

If you're intrested in more great Scandinavian literature, I highly recommend Kay Nielsen, who published a book by the name of "East of The Sun, West Of The Moon" filled with fantastically magical Scandinavian folk/fairy tales and his stunning artwork! I am not sure if it is still available to buy but should be in your local library. If not if you request it they can probably send for a copy.

Hope this was helpful!!:-)

Large astronomical objects blow up everything, even trolls.

So what is a young moomin to do when threatened with extinction by big space rock smooshing? Set out to save the world of course, preferably with a bunch of friends. If you make some new ones on the way, then that is perfectly fine as well. How exactly a short funny looking little guy can have his own astronomical impact requires a bit of invention.

Have you never read Tove Jansson's "Moominland" books? Just as soon as you've finished this review, shut down the computer, find copies and read them immediately. Read them, whether you're 8, 38 or 88.

Why is she so good? She created characters whom we recognise and believe in at once, even when they look like small white hippopotamuses, a rustic scarecrow or a bloated aardvark. They live in a world that is unpredictable, peculiar, higgledy-piggledy, wondrous, fragile and as real as a pile of bricks.

She is funny without trying and, like A.A. Milne, describes foibles and clashes that we have all witnessed. She can sustain a tone of child-like inconsequence, delight in the ordinary and lack of surprise at the utterly surprising, that only rare luminaries of children's writing (Lewis Carroll, Hugh Lofting) have ever managed.

And when she wants to, all of a sudden, she can shine a beam of pure poetry on the mystery, the loneliness, the terror, the strangeness of being alive. The Hattifatteners, part worm, part axolotl, part spook, who endlessly wander the world in a mob in quest of something unknown, and who become dangerous to touch during a thunderstorm, are one of the marvels of fiction.

Every title in the series should be read, but this is my favourite. If all of my books were about to be drowned in the deluge and I had a choice between rescuing this, or "War and Peace", or "Crime and Punishment", sorry Leo, sorry Fyodor, this is the one I would save.

I bought this with high hopes after reading the reviews. I was hoping it would be something I could give to my daughter when she was older. However, some of the questions (such as "how are you feeling about your postpartum body?" or something like that) are things that I wouldn't want her to read. Also, questions are very redundant from week to week. It's difficult to write on the left side of this book due to the spiral binding - a 3-ring binder would be better where we could remove pages, write, and then put them back. I also found it difficult to respond to some questions and on others, I ran out of room too soon. It just wasn't a good fit for me - I stopped using it after 2 months and am much happier with a more traditional baby book!

The BEST baby gift ever!!

I received this 3 years ago and wasn't sure if I liked it. Yes, some of the questions seem redundant... But! Your child changes that fast! This week, he loves peas! Next week, he hates them! It seems minor, but it's so much fun to look back and remember the little things that could have been lost to amnesia-due-to-sleep-deprivation. This was a great way to record the joys of baby- and mother-hood.

Since then, I've bought this for every new parent, and keep a couple on hand for baby gifts. Be sure to point out that there is a special area in the back for special events (holidays, etc.) I didn't have time to pore through it the first time, and almost missed it. Also, this could be really special if presented with a special toy or blanket or something that they can be pictured with each month to measure their development.

I have just purchased my sixth copy of this book for another friend. I received this book as a gift when I had my son and bought another for myself for the birth of my daughter and have given the book as a gift 5 times! It's easy to complete - walking you through every stage and first year event. It makes me reflect on things I may not remember if I was free journaling. And I love that I have my son's book to look back on and compare my daughter's growth to. The book is quality and the binding makes it easy to leave the book open to the week you are on. A must for any new mom!

My son is now two years old and having some developmental issues. During our screening process I was asked a lot of questions about his development as a baby, things no mother would ever be able to pull out of her head. Having such a well written journal that asked so many good questions was monumental in helping the professionals assess my sons past and current situation. Thank you Ms. Nelson for putting pen to page and providing this tool for me and my son. It not only helps me remember that first precious year, it is also helping us get a sense of where my son has been and where he is headed!

While I realize this is a type of "journal", I ended up wishing I hadn't purchased this item or had supplemented it with another standard baby book. There are no pages for the baby's firsts so I ended up putting them at the end of the book in the blank pages section but didn't think to start doing it until my son was 9 weeks old. There is a lot of repitition in the book as well, such as asking every week "What is your baby's sleeping schedule?", "Describe a typical day for you and your baby", or "What have you done for yourself this week?" I ended up leaving so many items blank because the answers didn't change on a weekly basis. Other things I ended up putting in the weekly "notes" section only to find it touched upon a few weeks later - Example: "Have you used a babysitter yet?" "Has your baby been sick yet?". Again, I realize this is a journal but I think the format is a bit odd and I see myself filling out less and less as time passes. The idea behind the book is good and the book itself is nice so I am giving it 3 stars.

The quilts in here are beautiful. They are also pretty simple to make. The patterns can be done quickly and I'm a beginner quilter. Like other people mentioned, the pictures are very helpful in selecting fabric and they're big and glossy so it's easy to see what the quilt will turn out like. This is by far the best of the Quilts for Baby books that Ursula has published. I can't wait till she puts out another one.

I got this book for my nephew's birthday (he was turning 3) and he really loved it. It's really something fun and different for kids and all the parents were even entertained by it! I have had a hard time finding these books in bookstores, so I'm glad I've been able to purchase them on Amazon. I would definitely recommend this book for the little ones.

My boys love this book

I had a couple of the Saxton Freymann books hanging around the house from my teaching days (Dog Food and How Are You Peeling). My 4 year old twins found them one day and loved them. I ordered them Food for Thought for Christmas last year and it is still a highly requested bedtime book. I love looking at the pictures as much as they do! It is amazing how they accomplish this using only food items.

With an Arts background, I view Juan Wijngaard as one
of the very best Children's Book Illustrators. He has a
masterful way to use color in order to create the feel
and imagery of light.

Wonderful book!

I have a 6-yr. old autistic daughter...she absolutely LOVES this book. She requests I read it over and over and over....and she loves to make the sounds of the animals as we read. We are buying a second copy to have in case the first one wears out...

A must have!

This book is very soothing. The art work is stunning. By far the best illustrations of any children's book I've ever read. Our boys love the book and enjoy finding details in the pictures and saying goodnight to the animals.

A lovely book
